What a wonderful artist. He is so musical and his arrangements are so rich: retaining the original integrity of the song and often bringing something new and valid as well. In my house we call someone like him a "phone book" performer. I'd buy a ticket to see him perform the phone book. Hope he does this for a long time.
Jake Shimabukuro's performance is phenomenal. He has been recognized as a Wizard, "God", Master. Jake has set new benchmark for ukulele players. Thanks a lot, Jake. You are an inspiration to the world.
Jake uses d'addario strings which produce a slightly fuller tone and he's playing a custom kamaka. but really what makes him sound so good is that he's truly mastered the instrument.
I just got tickets to see Jake. I think, regardless of any other concert group I go see in my life, this will be the best one I will ever see. I feel so much emotion welling up inside of me with each song that Jake does.
While watching this, I put in my headphones and closed my eyes I felt as if I were actually there listening to him play with all the background noise including the sounds of the children omg it was so beautiful.. T.T
Glad to see that so many people are enjoying Jake’s cover. If anyone is interested, he is having a contest where you can win a chance to meet him in person or receive a ticket to one of his upcoming shows! For more information, check out our blog at caamedia.org
A STANDARD tenor ukulele? No, surely not. This Ukulele was designed by Jake Shimabukuro hisself and made by Casey Kamaka. Only 500 exist. So if you want to get your hands on one, you probably wont say it's just a standard ukulele. It's one of the best Ukuleles existing in the world. And one of the most expensive ones.
@Isaac Fox yeah but hawaiians are pretty much japanese. Well I'm not an expert in the topic but if you go to Hawaii, there's bilingual menus with Japanese and English c:
Only guy besides Kurt Niellsen who's ever covered this song and not looked like an idiot. No disrespect, but many people cover this song because they think they can top Leonard Cohen vocally. ... They can't.
I dont think it's a "magic ukulele". It's just a very good one; I just wanted to tell you that, in my opinion, this isnt just any standard ukulele. Of course it has 4 strings tuned GCEA and also has 18 frets. It's a ukulele ;) I've got a "standard" tenor ukulele and Jake's one sounds really A LOT better. But I think the sound also depends on the proper use of techniques, like Jake's using them.

What ukulele did you play? I just love that music! Congratulations! 👏👏🥰
How can people talk through Jake's performance?
@bobyman121 most of the time, people switch their strings to low g ones for this song.
i just wanna go to a monastery of music and just spend the rest of my life or a good 10 years learning like 3 instruments guitar, piano, and chello
On his official "Peace, Love, and Ukulele" songbook ;)
You know the basic chords for this song are C, Am, F & G right??? But when Jake play's it, his interpretation is a thousand times better.
@pauljohnsontv haha thanks!
Be quiet please and let me enjoy this in peace.
Were Can I Get the TABS???
Wow... What size Uke is that?

3:20...start getting to heaven ....
Only guy besides Kurt Niellsen who's ever covered this song and not looked like an idiot. No disrespect, but many people cover this song because they think they can top Leonard Cohen vocally.

That's not Jake Shimabukuro playing. Nope, I hear angels.
I'd like to slow things down....(by speaking in Japanese)
Looks so easy... Is so fucking difficult.
Was he playing in low g?
I continued listening because I heard Japanese.
