  • Avoid these common mistakes and your Fall Fishing will be awesome! Fall brings some amazing patterns to bass fishing! You can catch them shallow or deep, you can catch them on top or with fast moving subsurface baits. This is one of the most fun times of year to fish! That said, there are some pitfalls that a lot of anglers fall into that can quickly ruin your Fall. Here's what you need to know!
The biggest mistake we see anglers make is they forget about Fall. What we mean is, they're so caught up in the struggles of September bass fishing, that when the bite starts changing, they aren't even looking for it. They're still out struggling on a tough pattern, not realizing that bass have moved shallow and the best bite of the year is happening in a cove around the corner! Don't get caught this year, keep pushing and searching for the Fall bite because if it hasn't already started on your lake, it's just around the corner.
Below you'll find links to the exact baits and gear we discussed in the video. We've included some of Tim's favorite baits for Fall fishing, especially some of the unique baits he's focusing in on this time of year. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

I just wanted to tell you guys how much I appreciate you.
I was a serious fisherman in my youth. Parents had a little houseboat with a bassboat attached and it was so important to my life. Sooo many hours on the water.
I got older and fished as much as possible.. but life is life. As time went on, it got away from me.
I just exited a long term marriage with a woman who used to be very amazing but lost herself along the way. Toxic. Abusive. The last 5 years were a straight loss for me. A big part of getting myself back.. getting back to my roots.. and rediscovering happiness has been my time on the water. You have made me a substantially better fisherman. I have rekindled a love for a hobby that brought me so much joy along the years. I am fishing a local "tough" lake and catching very very solid fish. You guys are absolutely my favorite fishing channel, and what you do for the whole community is such a gift. Thank you.

Great tutorial video Tim, well done. I can testify to going shallower than you normally go can be a pleasant surprise. Just last week I threw a Vision 110 Matte Shad in shallower water than I ever would normally. As soon as it landed it got swallowed up by a 23 inch, 5lb 9 oz largemouth. Thanks for the video.

Amazing video! Can relate so much. This year I have greatly improve my success Bass fishing by changing up and trying new things BUT it's so easy to fall back to your normal spots using your normal setup that at some point you caught decent fish and you wonder why it's not working this time around. Awesome vid.

Maybe the TN river system water gets cooler faster and that speeds up the transition. I'm in N. Texas. Lowland reservoir. Surface temp 79. No rain / No current. It won't be "fall" until Halloween by my definition. But they are definitely way more active since mid Sept. The TB underspin, KVD 1.5 sq bill, and soft jerkbait have been consistent but as you noted, rotating baits is important. I am so OCD I made a list of my rods and what bait I'm tying on before each outing. Sounds stupid but it helps me .... or least builds my confidence.

Tim, as we transition into fall I always wondered when fishing from the bank if areas with an abundance of dead leaves should be avoided because they're a waste of time (due to lack of growing vegetation), or if I should give them a cast and hope something cruising by is willing to bite?

    Tim a few questions
North East angler going to clear water Kettle Pond 12'-15' visibility. Little to No cover. Alewives, perch
    & trout.
Points, flats, cuts, steep drops bottoms are sand with little weed cover.
Where would you start, baits? Also is the (A-rig, glidebait,)effective in that clearer water?
    Thank you

I’m river fishing from a kayak two states north of you. What sucks is after the fall transition it’s not too long before the rivers get chocked with leaves. So it narrows down the baits to single hook only for two or three weeks. It almost completely shuts down topwater. I can use a buzz bait or similar but they just have no interest with all leaves up there. All that only leaves a couple weeks before winter and river kayaking becomes in unsafe. We almost get the same in the lakes with turnover. Falls always a timer for me as to how much fishing is left. I just don’t like cold weather/water fishing.

I do ! Me & my buddy spent 5 years bank fishing, then wading, before getting a boat.
We used short rods, 6' or even 5'6" in order to cast better without getting caught up in the branches from the trees around us.
Boats are cheap right now, real cheap. While we did have some fun from shore, it's nothing like being on the water .✌🏼
