Thanks for such a comprehensive video on this amazing bait! I fished it more like a spybait & didn't have as much success at first. Started fishing it more like a walking bait & holy cow, what a difference! Thanks again!
I bought the mega bass pop-x stick. I was having buyers remorse, and I was kind of wishing I got the cashion instead. It arrived today…. Oh my! This rod works the karashi effortlessly. I am amazed! I feel the shorter helps when bank angling, and I do not regret my purchase.
Thanks so much for this video..answered my question about splitring or not and the retreives...went back and watched your video so many times in your aluminum boat. Took the plunge and bought a Aldebaran BFS and 6'8 ML Expride..that setup is unreal.
Lucky I’ve been after and Expride for months now and no luck… I am looking for the Light Fast.. I’d take a Megabass too but I am about to settle for a kastking kestrel just so I can get on the water… I got the Aldebaran BFS XG and the Curado BFS XG both sitting with no rods!
Jus wanna say thanks man for all your tips, I caught 10 2-3lb bass, 3 stripped bass, man best day on the bank fishing since I started in April, thank you guys for the videos and freaking awesome tips, keep bassin brothers🎣
I had two karashi's coming on backorder and finally got them yesterday. Gonna try it out tomorrow morning with the curado bfs and new tatula xt finesse rod. This videos got me hyped!
Thanks so much for this vid. When I first watched it I went to TW and they had them in stock. I had my first Karashi fest last week..it really calls them up.
Matt, Tim! This was a great video!! I have been watching and learning from Tacticalbassin since Matt was in a drainage ditch teaching me how to retrieve a hud, maybe 10 plus years ago. The past couple of years, I have been picking one or two NEWER techniques to fish really hard, and add them to my toolbox with confidence. Last year I bought a jig-specific rod and a million jigs and fished a jig from winter to fall. This year was a jerk bait(and related baits like the karashi). Watching your video of gear and baits has really helped learn where to start, how the advance in the technic. However, these videos with the actual retrieves and the visual of the baits working, ARE A HUGE HELP! Sometimes, I learn I am not working the bait correctly, or I think I am but I realize I am over working the bait. Other times I learn that I am fishing it correctly (How you recommend to fish it, at least to start) and it gives me the confidence to keep at it. For example, Jig fishing this past winter, I had SO many days I went out to my main lake point and got skunked. You always doubt yourself on those days, is it my bait, the color, the line, am I working it to fast or to slow. Your videos helped me know all those elements were good enough, and the element I needed was to stick with it, and wait for a fish in the area and in a jiggy mood. I cannot tell you how many baits, I have fished for a day or a week and put it away completely, because of the doubt. I finally got that one thump, from a 6.5 spotted bass, as it was snowing. Now I know!! Lol. I put away a jerk bait years ago, thinking it just wanted a player in my lake. ( A smallmouth/spotted bass lake! I thoughts the jerk bait want not a player!! ) based on your videos I put in the work this year, enjoying the rabbit hole, ended up with a 18 fish evening, off the end of a boat launch! Almost every cast for an hour straight. THIS video showed me, that I have been working the Karashi correctly, but also added some different retrieves I had not tried! Anyway, just wanted to drop a comment, and tell you guys how much I enjoy your video. I have learned so much! I especially enjoy the video with the retrieves, it sounds silly, but being reminded by example that a slow drag with a jig in the winter is the best bet, helps me stick with it. Thanks guys! Please keep it up.
I love throwing the Karashi. It was the bait that convinced me I needed to get my BFS setup. First time throwing it I was just twitching it back seeing what the action as like and I saw a bass come up and inhale it. I need to pick up a bold color to go with the natural one I have already. Maybe some day I'll have a dedicated box like you! Awesome video!
Thank you! This single bait has impacted my fishing like no other bait has. It truly is a fish catching bait. I have the Cashion and Curado. I call it my "C Cubed" ( Cashion , Curado, Combo). Love this setup and the video.
I found this when you guys first put it up in a video. Amazing bait. Been using a bass pro shops 7’ med-light cranking stick with a bfs reel and absolutely love the fights. Thanks for showing!
The Karashi was golden for my fishing partner and me today. We boated over 40 largemouth and smallmouth bass and 80% came on the Karashi, including a nice 2 pound smallmouth on my very first cast of the morning. Only negative of the day was when one of my Karashi’s got broken off and I watched $18 swim to the bottom on the lip of a largemouth bass 😢lol 😂
Another rod I prefer over my P5 popX stick for Karashi is the Steez AGS Finesse Game Special. A little longer at 6’8” for longer casts and a solid tip that works the bait like you describe the Cashion rod does. Great video, Thanks Matt!
You can also slow reel it across a calm surface and it looks like an insect or something drifting across. It makes a tiny V wake. I have had fish follow that and then if I stop and twitch, they attack.
I LOVEEE this bait. I wish we WOULDNT talk about it. It’s sooo much fun and fish cannot stand it. It’s the only bait where on multiple occasions I’ve had multiple fish come up and fight over it. Excuse it’s so small and eratic and natural- you’d think it’d be easy for them to get but they miss it a lot, that’s where the competition comes in and I’ve had multiple fish fighting over this lure multiple times. Kind of like me fighting over the websites trying to get this bait. Such a killer lure. I’d pay $25 + shipping for it anyyyyday
Hello, is this where the support group for Karashiholics Anonymous meets? Great video and tips, been waiting for this how-to and got excited when Tim mentioned you were doing one! Thank you guys for everything, your families too! 🙏
Before i had a hard time switching to casting whether thats working a jerkbait or a walking bait... but once i got the hang of it, its so much easier to work any bait you're working that rod (outside of strolling) its so much easier on casting gear using your wrist
I usually fish the Chick because I live close by the reservoir. I have fished the silver shad color from super slow to nearly a straight reeling it skipping across the top. The largest L.M. that I've caught so far was 7lb9oz bass that hit it after I had reeled it in so it skipped about as fast as shad do when they're being chased across the top of water while I was piddling around fishing after supper a couple days ago in one of the ponds I have on my property where I live. I have also caught literally dozens of ½lb to up over 2lb bluegill that are the size of the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket in my ponds. I like a Phenix Feather 7'7" light action spinning rod on 100% Japanese flourocarbon with a loop knot or a little split ring. I leave the tail long but I trim the outside flash a 'bou a tiny bit near the last 3/4 of it so that it's not quite as of a drag on the bait and it chops better.
Excellent! In the few times I've thrown the Karashi I've struggled with the action and end up switching to a little Rapala UL crankbait. Time to put in some more time. Thanks!
Great bait. If you are looking for rear hooks, contact a fly shop and have them custom make them. I use Ryugi TC Coated Pierce #10's for the both. Fantastic all around BFS hook.
Thanks for the video, one video I would really like to see is a video going over the different baitcaster models and what application they are used for. Like aldebaran vs metanium dc 70, why would you choose one over the other besides weight.
I found that it works the best on 6 pound line, well the way I fish anyway and I like the Shimano mastiff line the most with this bait because the line doesn’t seem to have much memory at all.
Great break down on that lure Matt Thanks for the tips information and lessons on that lure ,one question what the best combo for bait fineness system because I am Interested in the technique
Your enthusiasm and this video hooked me! Bought 4 from TW. I had high hopes, but BFS just isn’t for me. I’m gonna keep the one I opened, but return the other 3 to TW for store credit. I’d rather have a V110 Jr. if going “small”. But I’m not willing to get a different setup to throw this micro lure. Not hating but BFS is not for me. The Karashi is ridiculously small!
I bought a few locally yesterday and got to try it today. No luck but our water on the TN river looks like Willy Wonkas chocolate river thanks to hurricane Helene. I hope to get some good catches as clarity improves.
This video was dialed man! Well done. I went on TW (using your link) and bought all the other Karashi’s they had in stock minus the Setsuki and the one I got the other day. I’m still without a rod to throw them on please see if TW will be nice enough to get some more of the Exprides in or get the megabass rods in and do a sale! I also found a bunch of vintage finesse lures that my late father owned and I am struggling to identify them and revamp them with new hooks and splits. Some of them are some very interesting baits. If anyone is good at identifying baits comment please and thanks!
Did I miss the fishing conditions you think are optimal? No wind vs some chop? Use early or late like other walking the dog spooks? Sunny vs cloudy? Etc etc. thank you. No split ring for the front hook? Does it hinge/ pin against the bait?
I don’t say this a lot but the Karashi is THE game changer. Had the hardest time catching schooling fish on a local lake. Stopped throwing spooks and poppers, tied on a Karashi. Filled the boat from sun up to sun down.
Great Info! If I use ML spinning what braid # would you use to tie to a leader? I use my wrist when using top water with spinning rod where you use elbow… hmm I have overuse issues from to much pop pop pause all year. I’ll try more elbow movement. Top water bite is addictive
Greetings from Romania. Great shallow water lure for pike and perch. I wish they had a larger colour range. They have also saltwater variant. About the tail hook ask a decent flytyer to do it so you will have a replacement part.
Been meaning to get my hands on the Cashion rod for a while now, I’ve been using my dobyns 700 for the Karashi the last couple years just because it’s what I have. Finally gonna make the purchase here in the next couple weeks! Hopefully someone comes out with a good replacement for that rear treble sometime soon! All mine are wearing out, one is missing a hook point but it still works so I left it alone, just gonna have to keep googling and looking everyday
If someone had a fly tying vice it would not be hard to tie on their own flashabou to make a new tail using the hooks you recommend. I've done it before with other top water baits.
Alright guys it’s time to pull the trigger on a Megabass rod… that being said I can get the Siglett or Pop X stick… I’ve also been looking at the new Oorchi X10… what’s the move i should make for a dedicated Karashi/jerkbait rod… it’s being paired with a JDM 22 Aldebaran BFS XG
We haven't really kept track, but I'll bet you're right. It's been a long time! The Karashi is just in such a league of its own that learning to fish it properly doesn't have a lot of crossover to any other bait.
I have 2 questions, when would you this over something like a jackall rhythm wag? What advantages does it have over it. And does that spinning rod fish like the specs are listed, I seen some of Megabass spinning rods listed as light but are recommended for all purpose fishing
I have been catching them also but no giants yet. My tail trailers got knotted when I launched it into a tree branch. How would you suggest replacing the tail trailer? My rear hook itself is fine
Only thing I'd add is that the hooks are MEGA CRAZY sharp. Use pliers always. I learned my lesson almost immediately sinking a barb into a thumb on day 1.
@@tacticalbassin thank you, ive always preferred throwing braid to leader just because the braid lasts longer on the spool, spend more short term to save more long term
My st croix bass-x 6'8 mxf and gravity bfs came in yesterday with that katsumi ito. absolutely crushed it today. Bfs bass pb is 2.5 and bfs perch pb is 1.22lb that perch had the gravity bfs drag screaming
@justinmalone8640 ehhhhhh after playing around with it a whole lot today I can say the bass-x does do the trick. I found that at the very top of the water I had to work the rod very very deliberately and I had to pop it as light as I possibly could to get it to walk the dog. That being said I've definitely got that cashion icon bf on the menu as I had such a blast today I can't imagine how great it'll be with a rod that treats the bait better!
@justinmalone8640 i have to add that I'm running 10lb braid to about 6 feet of 10lb fluro which might have impacted my action, I do plan to go full 10lb fluro in that daiwa hidden line
@@bgeezus3955 I throw sunline sniper 7lb. I am a believer, I caught a 10# on it last spring with a medium action rod with a Stradic. It is incredible strong and durable!
Man, sometimes I think I'm the only one who doesn't have luck with the Karashi on BFS. I have the MG Tora Kinkuro and Shirauo KS colors, but they don't seem productive. I'll swap them out with a Zara Puppy or throw a ned rig and things turn around. Do you think running them with straight braid could be an issue? Maybe the colors are wrong?
The only one that's out of stock is the most bluegill-esque of the bunch. You may want to try one of the really natural ones like kasumi ito or HT Ito Wakasagi as well.
I'm working on mine as well. So far it's the only Megabass bait I've gotten in every Respect Series color .. so far. Had to pay $65 + shipping for PM Midnight Bone though....
so its... POP POP POP TWITCH TWITCH or is it TWITCH POP POP pause... TWITCH POP? 😂 Good stuff dude, love your vids. My wife thinks you say in your intro "hey you guys, Fat Albert here..." So in our house you are forever Fat Albert.
I have the Cashion element bfs rod 6’10 Fast, Med-Lt 4-10, 1/8-7/16 oz. And an Ark Gravity bfs baitcaster. I am sure the reel is fine and can I get away with this rod with the bait or do I need to get another rod thanks.
I’ve really been wanting to get into bfs. Do you think a Denali attax 702 would be a light enough rod to attempt it to see if it’s something I want to pursue?
lol now we know why they were out of stock...aint sayin no names...Hey Matt...I just might have a solution to the rear replacement hook. HMU to discuss
There aren't two types, it's a slow sinking vait. However, lures behave differently at different water temperatures. You may want to revisit it and see if they're truly floating, or just very slow sinking.
Thanks for such a comprehensive video on this amazing bait! I fished it more like a spybait & didn't have as much success at first. Started fishing it more like a walking bait & holy cow, what a difference! Thanks again!

Ouch!!
This little guy is deadly
Should I upgrade the split rings? If so what kind?
Do you guys always run straight flouro on BFS? Or do you occasionaly run braid to leader?
We have combos set up both ways at all times.
@@tacticalbassin thank you, ive always preferred throwing braid to leader just because the braid lasts longer on the spool, spend more short term to save more long term
20:50 mark . The description of MAGIC with the assistance of a live butterfly. He almost catches it in his hand.
One thing that I did was add a split ring to it and trim that "feather" to just beyond the hook. Not one short strike, so far.
Ohhhhh baby, #Karashi4life
Ha!
@tactical bassin did you guys notice the butterfly in Matt's face at 20:54 ? Lol
My st croix bass-x 6'8 mxf and gravity bfs came in yesterday with that katsumi ito. absolutely crushed it today. Bfs bass pb is 2.5 and bfs perch pb is 1.22lb that perch had the gravity bfs drag screaming
Does that bass x walk the dog pretty well?
@justinmalone8640 ehhhhhh after playing around with it a whole lot today I can say the bass-x does do the trick. I found that at the very top of the water I had to work the rod very very deliberately and I had to pop it as light as I possibly could to get it to walk the dog. That being said I've definitely got that cashion icon bf on the menu as I had such a blast today I can't imagine how great it'll be with a rod that treats the bait better!
@@bgeezus3955 I have one of those rods and a dobyns 740 ultra finesse. Maybe I’ll try it on the dobyns first 🤷♂️
@justinmalone8640 i have to add that I'm running 10lb braid to about 6 feet of 10lb fluro which might have impacted my action, I do plan to go full 10lb fluro in that daiwa hidden line
I’m very curious to see what they recommend for hooker upgrades prob the Aaron Martin G Finesse short shanks
How about the potential of the rapala x rap in your testing fishing livescope
Megabass makes replacement skirted hooks in sets of 2.
It's a different material, believe me, We've tried.
It’s basically Krystal flash. I tie my own after they wear out. Fly shops sell the material and just add your favorite hook.
@@josephpatten8087 Indeed. Flashabou is cheap and very easy to tie.
We need a MegaKarashi. Still smaller, but maybe 75-80mm from the karashi's 60mm. Hell i'd buy the whole family if they went up from there
Right?! 100% we'd buy them all too!!
Hi Matt, do you removed a magnet in your curado bfs to tune it for the lighter lures?
No, I fish it completely stock. With the right line, it can cast a Karashi really far.
Which is the bluegill color? I have the Wagin Hasu KS as it was the only one in stock. It works, but always looking for more pond lures here in TX.
The only one that's out of stock is the most bluegill-esque of the bunch. You may want to try one of the really natural ones like kasumi ito or HT Ito Wakasagi as well.
Haven’t tried one of these yet. You think it’s similar in action to the Mirrodine lure?
This action is much more refined than a Mirrodine. Did I mention our tackle addiction runs deep? 😂 It doesn't end with just bass tackle.
Matt. Do you ever tie it on with a loop, knot like the rapola knock?
I don't because I don't like the strength of most loop knots, but that would certainly work.
Thanks
i’ve joined the cult and also have amassed a dedicated karashi box 😂
I'm working on mine as well. So far it's the only Megabass bait I've gotten in every Respect Series color .. so far. Had to pay $65 + shipping for PM Midnight Bone though....
Ha! It happens quick!!
For rear hooks you fellas need to tie your own. As a fly guy its a no brainer!
100%, but that's tough to recommend to the public. Hopefully quality solutions come to market so the general public has a solid option as well.
so its... POP POP POP TWITCH TWITCH or is it TWITCH POP POP pause... TWITCH POP? 😂 Good stuff dude, love your vids. My wife thinks you say in your intro "hey you guys, Fat Albert here..." So in our house you are forever Fat Albert.
Ha! Too funny!
They do make a floating version..and a sinking version and 2 sizes if not mistaken..someone correct me if I'm wrong
The IGX is a totally different bait... stick to the main bait and you'll be much better off 👍🏼
I have the Cashion element bfs rod 6’10 Fast, Med-Lt 4-10, 1/8-7/16 oz. And an Ark Gravity bfs baitcaster.
I am sure the reel is fine and can I get away with this rod with the bait or do I need to get another rod thanks.
to any east tennessee residents real deal tackle has a couple in stock!
I'll bet those don't last long!
Hi Matt 👋🏻 What about a loop knot?..
That can certainly work 👍
Do you ever clip the Feathers or leave it on at all times?
Messing with them too much will alter the action. I fish them with a stock rear hook and full feathers.
I’ve really been wanting to get into bfs. Do you think a Denali attax 702 would be a light enough rod to attempt it to see if it’s something I want to pursue?
If you own it, give it a whirl. It will at least give you a feel for what we're talking about and you'll know whether or not to take the plunge.
Mega bass is Mega death on the wallet... Can't afford to lose 'em
@tacticalbassin your prolly going to break youtube with the video! Lol thank you for the video!
Ha! Let's hope not!
lol now we know why they were out of stock...aint sayin no names...Hey Matt...I just might have a solution to the rear replacement hook. HMU to discuss
The 1st 4 or 5 I bought when I punched under your site took me to the floating type Can you change the hooks on them and make them sink
There aren't two types, it's a slow sinking vait. However, lures behave differently at different water temperatures. You may want to revisit it and see if they're truly floating, or just very slow sinking.
Thanks I’ll check
Gold. Thanks Matt.
Thank you!
Yet another video uncovering all my secrets
Great video. Been waiting for this one. I've struggled with this bait a little but this cleared some things up for me 👍 Thanks
Awesome! We were hoping it would help!
