Living in Orlando, Florida, we've always been to the WMATA Metro Rail subway system. At one time we rode on the Blue Line from King Street - Old Town and (mostly) Braddock Road to Pentagon City stations, but most of the time we took the Yellow Line from Huntington to Fort Totten, but we managed to stop at the Smithsonian museum on the Silver Line. And I remember we got a glimpse of the Archives (Gallery Place - Chinatown) station just after passing through L'Enfant Plaza to enter the zoo. I think there are lots of underground train stations that I could remember. One is the Crystal City station, if I may add. Others might include the Pentagon City, Pentagon, Arlington Cemetery (mostly above ground but hardly underground), Rosslyn, Foggy Bottom-GWU, Mount Vernon Square, Shaw - Howard University, Farragust West, and McPherson Square stations. I always thought that the WMATA Metro Rail trains look a lot more like Japanese bullet trains (or "shinkansens") or the Tokyu 5000 series for JR East trains, but really they almost have the same train structures as the Atlanta MARTA subway trains in Atlanta, Georgia. It is really the _fastest_ public transit system to help us get to our nation's capital, which is Washington DC.
Ah, such beautiful memories! I can't wait to ride on it again, if I may have the time. And although my family is fully vaccinated thanks to the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine, the Delta variant is still there so we must continue to wear our masks when we're taking public transportation. The coronavirus pandemic is not over yet, folks. It only takes a matter of time before the coronavirus subsides! 😷😃
👍🏾Everyone stay safe during these hard times. Remember, we're doing our part to help get rid of COVID-19 for good!
When Do U Plain On Riding The WMATA Metro 🚇 Again Despite COVID-19 Still Going On
Stay Safe!
@@tameikabrown
I don't know when we'll get to do it again, but fingers crossed that we'll ride on the WMATA Metro Rail very soon.
Well, folks, things are going back to normal again.
Seems like the mask policy has been lifted, and everything's back to the way it was pre--pandemic (well, most of it).
👍🏾Remember to stay safe whenever you go! Your health depends on it!
I've done the whole length of the orange line with my mother before. One time when me and my mom were on rohr car number 1286 I once took a 3 foot Daffy Duck doll on the metro and I was the one sitting next to it and the passengers were mumbling, "Daffy Duck," and we saw a circus right on Minnesota Avenue where we didn't go in
This brings me back...
A long time ago when we would be on the metro when we would go from Minnesota Avenue to Deanwood, I used to say, "Denevewood." But the way they pronounced it was Deanwood.
Like a bar with a line ascending up to New Carrollton
If we have like this in Lagos Nigeria, will be a very good thing
Buses for Minnesota Ave: X1 X2 X3 X9 W4
L'Enfant Plaza (transfer point for Green Line to Branch Avenue to Navy Yard the Washington Nationals Baseball Game station stop and the yellow line to Huntington to Ronald Reagan National Airport)
I thought the metro driver at first said "East Falls Church, doors opening left side but he said the doors opened on the right side at East Falls Church because they were single tracking between East and West Falls Church station.
My favorite station is rosslyn
I didn't even know that there were new lights on the Minnesota Avenue platform
Metro Center (transfer for red line upper level to Glenmont to Union Station for Amtrak and red line train to Shady Grove to Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan the location for the Smithsonian National Zoological Park)
Deanwood, the first stop in Washington, DC
Transfer is available at stadium armory for the blue and silver lines
Rosslyn (final transfer point for blue line trains to Largo upper level, to Franconia - Springfield by the way of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and the first station stop in the Commonwealth of Virginia)
How many Terminals Ronald Reagan Airport have?
but nice is that the 1000 series
Long metro ride from one terminus on the orange line to the other terminus on the orange line
Foggy Bottom - GWU is the last station in the District of Columbia
Deanwood is the first station in Washington, DC
paul horwitz Foggy Bottom is the first DC station, coming from Vienna to New Carrollton.
West Falls Church-VT/UVA, Dunn Loring - Merrifield, Vienna Fairfax - GMU
Sweet!
Sometimes when we would take the NE regional from NY back to DC we'd get off at New Carrollton and then take the orange line all the way to Vienna so we wouldn't have to change metro trains and avoid Union Station
That is because AMTRAK serves both Union Station and New Carrolton - also on the Orange Line - in fact, New Carrolton was the closest AMTRAK station to me before I moved to Accokeek. (While New Carrolton does not have the infrastructure - such as fast food or news stands that Union Station = or Penn Station in Baltimore MD) - it was not designed to! (Case in point - in 1988, I took a four-day weekend over New Year's 1988 - I was working in Ballston - also on the Orange Line - I had purchased at the AMTRAK downtown ticket office - but caught my train in New Carrolton taking the Orange Line subway from work to do so. I did not take a train from Union Station until the summer of 2000 - because it did not make sense until then.
Virginia Square - GMU is Carmela Ormando's stop where she gets off at.
Buses for deanwood: W4 V14
Years ago, The Penssy/ Penn Central locals stopped at Landover. Do the MARC Trains still stop there?
Nah, the Penn Line stop closest at New Carrollton. With the high-speed trains of the NEC, stopping at Landover would be rather pointless and irritating.
Great video you should try recording from thru the cab window. There's quite a few videos of it done on new york metro train rides its pretty cool
blackdemonevo9 Thanks. I did once before on the Green Line but when I did it a second time, the operator stopped me and said it was not allowed. Ever since then I've been recording from the side-view for all of FULL RIDE videos.
***** gotcha yea l guess they're not as friendly to railfans down in the DC metro area as opposed to other metro areas. There was a funny video of a railfan talking to an operator on a NYC train the guy was real cool and joked with em a lot too. If l find I'll forward it to you
blackdemonevo9 It's not all, not even most of them but a few sour grapes kind-of makes the attempt not worth my time.
Yea that sucks that's the best view honestly l always liked sitting there whenever l got a chance when riding the metro
@@MJofLakelandX Now they are darkly tinted.
Taken from New Carrollton, MD through Washington, DC, to Virginia
Federal Triangle (National Aquarium)
Stadium Armory (the first transfer point for blue line trains direction of Franconia Springfield this platform and Largo Town Center opposite side platform and new silver line directions of Weihle Reston East this side of the platform and to Largo Town Center on the opposite side of the platform)
West Falls Church-VT/UVA (the station where we got off at when me and my dad could not go to the March For Sanity on the National Mall in downtown Washington DC)
Rosslyn is the first station in Virginia
Transfer is available at L'ENFANT plaza for the green and yellow trains
metrolover/supermario64 Kyle L,fant
You know the subway driver used to say, "Sheverly," but it's pronounced "Cheverly."
McPherson Square (the location where my dad now works at)
Me and my Dad get on the orange line at East Falls Church metro station when we go like to a Nationals Game or something and get off the orange line at East Falls Church metro station after going to a Nationals Game
Wow Jeremy, that is such a neat video you sent me. How exciting. I felt like I was there with you.
xo, Granny and Gramps
Vienna/Fairfax- GMU (the other end of the line)
I will probably be doing this to get to the USDA :)
Transfer is available for the red line at metro center
Dunn Loring - Merrifield the station is where my babysitter Becky Chen's house is near
Farragut West (the location where my dad used to work at downtown)
New Carrollton is the last station (or first station)..why are there already people on the train when it pulls up to New Carrollton? Are they getting on the train on the opposite side of the platform and riding the train while it turns around? I'm confused.
To be sure I'm answering your question correctly, New Carrollton is either one (first or last), just like Vienna station. People were coming from Vienna and the other 24 stations before reaching New Carrollton. From my train, yes they are getting-on the train because my train closed it's doors and began departing. The train doesn't circle around after arriving at the station, the train operator switches the controls from the lead car to the trail car - or first car to the last car (which will be the first car (or lead car)) - so train will not need to do a circle beyond the station; by the way, the train yard is beyond the station but trains can not loop.
Biggest I agree
I learned the track gauge of the DC Metro is an inch narrower than standard.
TrainSounds 1/4 inch.
Next metro line full ride is the Silver line ride to Wiehle Reston East opening day
paul horwitz silver line starting at largo town center like blue line going to Franconia Springfield
Buses for new Carrollton: F14. T18 T14
Best subway line in the USA i don't care what New Yorkers say...
biggee316 your right and I think Rio de Janeiro metro train best in the world I taken
biggee316 what do you think best in the world I a train buff
biggee316 Agreed
I'm from Long Island (40 mins away from Manhattan) and I can definitely agree that the Washington Metro is infinitely better than the NYC subway. The MTA really needs to get it together. Every time my family goes to DC we usually stay in Alexandria, which is served by the Blue Line. It's great knowing that most of DC's main attractions are on that line as well
Every publicly_subsidized system goes through a time of crisis or difficulty. It's all a part of the maturation of that infrastructure. This is especially true of public transit. I've lived in both cities and as an adult I've returned to both a few times; admittedly at this point WMATA is likely dispensing better service to its patrons than MTA. I shall have to schedule a week long visit to each city to capture some metrics and qualitative aspects as well.
:)

I cannot wait to see the Silver Line in operation. Do you suppose they will be using some of the 2000, 3000, 5000 or 6000 series railcars to run that line?
July 26th is it's inaugural service, so I'll be doing a FULL RIDE recording of the service.
I heard about that. Will the inaugural service be running between McLean and Wiehle-Reston East?
cornrowcity The whole line. Largo to/from Wiehle-Reston East
I see. I also heard that the first set of 7000 series railcars are still undergoing acceptance testing. I wonder if they will still use some of the 2000, 3000, 5000, or 6000 series railcars to run the silver line.
cornrowcity Silver Line will be out of West Falls Church and New Carrollton yards, so most definitely the ones you listed. 7000-series is phasing-out the 1000- and 4000-series occupied by Red Line.
I rode that train before. From cheverly.

As of now the silver line has been finished all the way to ashburn.
I know, I know. I'm late to the party. 😅
Baltimore is a mere 45 minutes from DC, so I should have more content, but work; kids (nieces & nephews) and pure exhaustion on my days off, I just can't find a perfect time do WMATA.
Next year, I will try to do all new FULL RIDES! and observations specifically of Metrorail
