Thank you, this video is very realistic. Somebody who would do the same things would've probabpy said this costed them 30-40k. Everyone is liar on youtube. But you guys are trustable. Thank u.
I'm adding an upstairs bathroom, and this was super helpful! TY Kinda nuts to have the house under contract before finishing the reno! glad you made it in time!
Wow, this looks great! Even better than the one downstairs! I think it would also have been great to switch the vanity and the shower so you had daylight when doing makeup and getting ready
That's exactly what I thought! The bathroom is beautiful either way. Having the vanity by the window is just my personal preference. Great video and amazing cost savings!
Good idea, I think the toilet might have been to close that way though. Shower and toilet farthest apart or even separated by a wall is always my preference . Wouldn't love that daylight tho u right
They probably didn't, lol... no shade to them. It's quite common for people do these types of projects off-books; as long as everything was independently inspected. Only time it'd become an issue if the home was going to be sold later on or in the unfortunate event of an insurance related incident.
New sub!!! we just bought a house, and wanna turn eventually, the downstairs closet into a bathroom. Found y'all searching youtube!!! Thanks!!! I also loved watching y'all put the walls together!!!
Just found your channel and I thought several things 1. You must have 5 millions subscribers 2. These videos are incredibly done 3. Every shot is beautiful! I'm loving the videos!! What do y'all shoot on? Congratulations. You'll be huge in no freaking time!!
Thanks so much for the kind words Joey. As far as cameras, Trav runs a production company as well. So we’ve shot these videos on Sony’s mostly (a7siii and a7iii) but also anything from the Red Komodo, to an iPhone (really just whatever is near by when we need to film 😅)
Do you guys ever list the tools (even if it’s just the more unique ones) that you use? Maybe in the description like you do with materials. This is only the second video I’ve watched. I feel like the info you provide is great and super descriptive, but I have pretty little experience in tools and hardware and would love to know what is being used to know if I will need to factor rental or purchase of certain tools into the cost of the overall project. Unless of course I know anyone who could loan it to me. Thanks, you guys are super creative and this was an awesome remodel!
Thanks for checking us out Joshua! It honestly never occurred to us to list the tool but maybe we should for next time. Stay tuned we will be making lots more how to videos very soon.
There’s so many different schools of thought. Some people live in there flips and fix as they can afford each project. Some people take out a renovation/rehab loan and never use any of their personal finances. Find a good lender that you can trust and see what options are available for the property you have your eye on!
Had contractor quote me over 30k to convert a closet to a 9'x9' bathroom... full access underneath to plumbing, full open access in attic, easy access to electrical, 30k+... even with me buying the materials and purchasing expensive finishes I still did not get close to 15k so I am not sure what he was quoting. Looks like I will be doing this myself...again. You guys did a fantastic job!!!
When you subtract the material costs from the quote you will find out that most of the contractors prices are super inflated. I did that calculations and ended up doing it myself (total floor demo and re tiled) Saved a lot. Also if you don't know how to do some stuff, I bet you'll find how to right here in RUclips.
The code doesn’t require it. Common practice is to place a waterproof vapor barrier behind the cement board, or waterproof the cement board. If you do both you trap vapor inside the wall and it has no way to escape. Most pros argue against using two vapor barriers.
Yes we used a 7-mil thick vapor barrier behind the durock. Since the shower has a pre made base there is a lip so any such moisture that makes it’s way through will eventually drain back down into the shower base/drain. This may not be the case when tiling a poured shower base and is why some recommend using a waterproof membrane. Where the house is located code calls for a vapor barrier behind the durock, so waterproofing over the durock in addition to the vapor barrier would make it harder for water to escape in the wall, it is not recommended to have two waterproof barriers. Hope this helps
Awesome job. Wetrooms rock though, and hand-held shower hoses rather than built-in overhead shower heads are the way to go. Further, bidet hoses by the toilet bowl are essential!
We use a ledger board to hold the tiles up. Tiles have a tendency to slide down the wall to we have a flat starting line and then after they have set we remove the ledger board and tile to the bottom
Your shower wall...make sure you center so your end pieces will be equal...notice how the left/side end piece is larger than the smaller right/side end piece? Same on the niche...see the small sliver on the left vs the larger piece on the right? Still great job overall.
Great material choices! Was there a reason why the toilet had to go so far into the room? Couldn't it have been installed with the tank on the wall facing the vanity so there would've been more room? That way, you could've flipped the shower and vanity locations, which would've been a more cohesive arrangement.
The downstairs was made of cinder block and there was already hvac being ran in many of the spaces where plumbing would’ve ideally went. So running the water and drain lines was very challenging. We went with that layout just out of necessity and ease for drain/vent installation.
That’s code in our area, you can’t have two waterproof membranes. Since it’s an exterior wall it’s better to have a vapor barrier. If you have a waterproof membrane on the outside of the cement board, and a vapor barrier inside the cement board, you now have to waterproof barriers that trap the existing moisture in between with no where to go, leading to mold and eventual rot of the cement board.
A 9 mil plastic vapor barrier. Since two of the walls were exterior a plastic vapor barrier is required. You can’t use this in combination with another waterproofing method, like a liquid waterproofing for example, because it creates a double vapor barrier and can cause water to be trapped in between the plastic and the waterproofing membrane causing mold, rot, etc.
2:15 girl, I thought I was the only one turned off by the idea of seeing the 'poop shoot' through an open bathroom door. I mean it doesn't hurt its functions, its just MUCH more aesthetically pleasing to see something else through an open door. Great design eye!
Did you guys get lucky with venting the plumbing and tie into an existing vent or did they have to cut a hole in your roof and install a new plumbing vent?
Do you need to get a permit to add a bathroom yourself? Do you need to report adding another bathroom for your taxes to go up to the county? Or can you add bathroom and keep your lips zipped? We are bled dry with taxes, especially school taxes. Your bathroom turned out beautiful by the way. Your cost of adding was sweat equity and stellar, good job, congratulations to you both! -John's wife
When putting in a nitch , did or do measure the the height to make sure you didn’t have to cut around it or was that part of you dry-fitting measurements

Honeycomb Floor Tile!!!
I really enjoyed yalls video 🤣🤣
wanted to c how u connected to the plumbing, but still impressive saving that money
What's the dimensions you have to work with?
It was great
The fact that you were able to get the plumbing done under $3500 is surprising to me. The rest of it is just icing on the cake.
Our contractor was really reasonable. Thanks for checking out our video!
Love that you put a shower in there instead of the tired old tub/shower combo. It looks really fresh!

Great job! Love the finishes. Just wondering if you needed to get permits for plumbing, and electrical or do the contractors take care of that?
They probably didn't, lol... no shade to them.

Did you have to pull a permit for this project? If so, it should be added to the cost.
Can y’all elaborate on utilities. Was that the plumbing costs? And does miscellaneous also include grout and grout finishing?
How do we get the funds at first to buy and flip?? Or should we have the money to buy outright and then use money we’ve saved to renovate???
