I agree, this is my favorite film. I'd heard a lot about it but had never seen it until about 10 Years ago. I'm still in awe.

To me its not only the best western of all time but one of the greatest films of all time. I do not think there is a single movie I have seen more times than Shane. The cinematography alone makes it a must watch movie.

I agree completely. A great film and not just a great western, it transcends it's genre. I too have seen it many times, probably more than any other film, just like you

Many fond memories since 1973 when my late father and I would watch this classic. I cried when I saw the ending and today in 2021 when I watch this movie with my 26 year old son, I still shed a tear at the end. My favorite western as well.
      #2 Good Bad Ugly
      #3 Magnificent Seven

I also agree completely Troy....I have watched the movie countless times and replayed the last showdown scene over and over again....it is just chilling.....and so believable, unlike the films of today....Jack Wilson one of the truly bad characters of cinema....you can keep your unbelievable Hannibal Lecters.......

@@franksantos3418 I thought for a moment that I'd written this post...until you got to the son, of which I, sadly, have none. Magical movie for me. Amazing to think how impactful it was for me when dad had me watch it when I was 8 on a 19" Zenith, compared to being old enough to have seen it in a theater or at least on a 55" home theater set-up.
I remember my now gone much older cousin (dad's first cousin and WWII paratrooper in the Pacific) telling me he still remembered the gunfire scenes in Shame because they used live gunfire instead of the usual "cap gun" effect common in westerns of the era. And he said they jumped in their seats (he'd been to war by then and was about 28-29) when that first scene occurred where he shows Joey about shooting.

Shane I saw as a child and fell in totally in love with Alan Ladd and still am to this day. A great actor he should have got the Oscar he so deserved for this movie. Also so good in Gatsby not recognised at the tine it was made as being the great movie it was. He was phenomenally good looking with a perfect face and body. You ciuld see he had been a swimming and driving champion when in high school and afterwards. I wish he had a much longer life he deserved to enjoy his fame and be with his family who loved him. I still adore him. Beautiful man inside and out.

He came and went so fast. Shane just immortalized him. Stevens a genius...and loved the movie so much that he spent over a year editing it (much to the horror of the studio who had already PAID EVERYONE without seeing a nickel at the gate).

I've seen I believe all the great westerns ever produced up to current and for me Shane ranks easily in the top 3, along with "The Searchers", and "The Man who shot Liberty Valence".

Yes...the decency of the story and the attention to the grief and sadness of the tragedy, the musical score all add to the unforgetable greatness of this my favorite western movie.

Shane rides into town. Wilson rides into town. Shane rides out of town. Wilson does not. Best western ever.

They say, in show business, never to work with animals or children, but Shane gives that a run for its money!

I saw Shane as a child and I still remember the beauty of the Tetons and a heartbroken Joey calling, "Shane, come back,"

I always get a kick when I see the dust from the vehicle going left to right at the beginning of the film. 4-22-19

I watched the "Shane" promo on SPXWS and they made it politically correct. "You lowdown liar", instead of "You lowdown Yankee liar". I always watch it on TCM when it plays.

That'll be the norm soon everywhere. I need to order that DVD now before, like gasoline powered Dodge Challengers (gone in '23), they are no more in this deceitful, lying world.
