I don't always listen to 'Bat Out of Hell' - but when I do, so do the neighbours 🙂. Great choice you guys, this is one of the greatest opening cuts on an album ever, just grabs you and pulls you into the whole story. Peace and love from Canada!
Your comment reminded me of the beer commercial. "I don't always listen to rock music, but when I do, I listen to Meatloaf" --the most interesting man alive
Jim Steinman was the legendary lyricist, Meatloaf was the legendary performer. And big up to Todd Rundgren for the legendary guitar/ motorbike sounds. Much love from England 🏴
Jim Steinmann was the composer of what you very accurately pointed out was Rock Opera. He composed most of Meatloaf's songs. They were high concept and made the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Steinman said referring to meat Loaf: "If you want 350 pound, heroic, Wagnerian Rock this is it." (paraphrased) Steinman is the long-haired piano player in the videos. The female singer in "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" was Karla DeVito who toured with Meatloaf and was a wonderful singer. However she was lip synching to Ellen Foley's vocals on the video. Ellen Foley played Billie Young the public defender in the early episodes of the TV show, "Night Court." Steinman also composed Bonnie Tyler's similar high-concept songs.
Yes , however I think Jim did a better version of some of the songs on Bat Out of Hell 2 when Meatloaf did not want to do the album . Also checkout movie Streets of Fire for some more Jim Steiman songs Nowhere Fast ruclips.net/video/Yub3-Ow7tBs/видео.html and Tonight is What it Means to be Young ruclips.net/video/cgaHi7IziHI/видео.html
Don't forget Bonnie Tyler's _Total Eclipse Of The Heart._ Jim was the absolute master of the power ballad, but only a few artists had the vocal power to pull them off. :-)
According to the sleeve notes of the Rock 'n' Roll Hero compilation album that I have, when Steinman first heard Meat Loaf, he said "This guy is my voice! He should be singing Wagnerian rock opera!"
other people recorded some Steinman. the best not by Meatloaf was Bonnie Tyler and what she did with "Total Eclipse of the Heart". but really, a Steinman ballad needed Meatloaf to deliver it
Meatloaf was a one of a kind talent. He didn’t just make you feel his music but made his listeners experience it through him. That was why he was so captivating.
Thanks for honoring Meat Loaf (again). Truly a showman worthy of multiple tributes! You have to check out "You Took The Words Right Out of My Mouth", "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)", "Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through", and "Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are". DAMN, the man loved long song titles!!
Go Amber. It brought a tear to my eye watching you love this song so much. Rocks Pavarotti. What a performer, what a man. Fantastic reaction to a brilliant artist. RIP Meat. That bike was waiting for you on the other side.
I feel one of the most overlooked songs by Meat Loaf is You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth. From the beginning to the way it plays out it just plain cool.
Years back, Meatloaf did an interview, don't remember with whom, but, he told the interviewer, If I have the energy for a groupie after the show, I didn't perform good enough for the crowd. Give 110% then do more.........
One Meat Loaf song that ends with absolute fire is "All Revved Up With No Place to Go"--you need a seat belt for the last 40-45 seconds. For a Female Friday, you can react to Cher's duet with Meat Loaf, "Dead Ringer"--well worth the time.
Jim Steinman was the musical and songwriting genius. He wrote all of the songs. Meat Loaf was the genuis singer. Jim is right there playing the piano. As a team they were amazing!
He truly takes you on a journey. When this album came out everybody had it. The funny thing is I'm 57 and still have the album that I bought when I was a teenager. RIP
I've had at least 20 copies of it because when I lose one or it gets broken I go get a new one. Same with Eagles Greatest hits, Young Guns soundtrack and Simon and Garfunkel greatest hits.
One does not "listen" to Meatloaf, one "EXPERIENCES" Meatloaf... The Whole Album is about a man and a woman's relationship. It goes, in order from this (a man dying in a motorcycle accident), the first song, to the memories of his life and his love. He did not write these songs, (the Piano Player did), but he embodied them like nobody else ever could.
I was lucky enough to see him live twice when I was a teenager. I was about a decade younger than anyone else at the concert and couldn't care less. I sang at the top of my lungs the entire time and had no voice for the rest of the week. Most of all, I had NO REGRETS! He actually sang that well in concert too. It was a mind blowing experience and I feel truly lucky to have gotten to enjoy it live. Thank you both for sharing these reactions! 💓
On this album, Todd Rundgren's production and arrangement choices are almost every bit as important as the original compositions. Not to take anything away from JS, but it was definitely a collaborative effort.
Meat Loaf wasn’t just a man singing to an audience. He was a pure entertainer. He played to the camera as well as an audience. If you have ever had the opportunity to see Meat Loaf live…. You definitely walk away knowing you received your money’s worth. Because Meat Loaf left it all on stage , with every concert he preformed.
The goal behind this song was to write and perform “the ultimate motorcycle crash song”. Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf definitely achieved that. I know you recorded this reaction on the day he died, and to hear you (Jordan) interpret the lyrics and say “he didn’t make it” crushed me. I’ve long known the meaning of the song, but to hear him sing about his own death on the day he died … not to be insensitive, but… is theatrical in only a way Meat Loaf would want it.
I totally agree with you I think it's wonderful to play tribute to somebody who has passed away on the same day. We all played tribute to John Lennon when he passed away on a cold winter's night 12/8/80. I think that any great artist especially someone so well known as John Lennon would like to have his fans pay tribute to him on the day that he dies, by playing the songs that he is famous for. Meatloaf with me missed by a lot of people, we grew up with him.
@@langdalepaul that's my talk to text it doesn't understand me all the time. You're totally correct it should say famous not infamous. I have corrected it thank you very much.
I was born in 1958, so you can tell all the performers I've lived through. And I just LOVE watching you kids experiencing Meatloaf for the first time. You got a great gig going here...keep it up!
Who else, who owns the full LP, at the very end of hearing this track hears the lyrics at beginning of the next superb track (‘You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth’) resonating in your mind: ‘On a hot summer’s night would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses’?
That motorcycle sound was actually the beginning of the guitar solo, played by producer Todd Rundgren. The album is a combination of the genius songwriting of Jim Steinman, the genius production of Todd Rundgren and the nigh-operatic theatricality of Meat Loaf - the musicians from Utopia and the E Street Band (plus guests like Edgar Winter) also brought their skills.
I feel as if a part of my youth died with the passing of this wonderful entertainer and genuine human being. Marvin Lee Aday (Michael) AKA Meatloaf your musical performances will live on! Thanks for the decades of memories.
If you listen to the piano and drums, that’s Roy Bittan and Max Weinberg of the E Street Band. Meatloaf and Steinman apparently loved the sound from Born to Run, and in 1977 Bruce was still breaking up with Mike Appel, couldn’t record, and they were available. Bat Out of Hell was lightning in a bottle! And Meatloaf was a musical theatre trained actor. It shows.
Next song has to be "I would do anything for love (but I won't do that." And just trust me, if you want Meatloaf at his most theatrical, watch the full length official video for that song!" I have to add that it is Meatloaf with songs composed by Jim Steinman that made the music what it was. It was really a team. Meatloaf without Jim Steinman was not nearly as amazing. Sort of like the team of Bernie Taupin writing Elton John songs. Rest in peace to both of them.
To clarify though, Taupin writes the lyrics to EJ songs. Elton writes the music. While Steinman writes the music and lyrics but Meatloaf brings the rock opera's to life. Each Team is symbiotic bit also different.
That is called an emotional wreck. Meatloaf just showed us that if you put every ounce of power and sweat into it you will deliver a great song that will leave you spent. No matter how many times I hear this song I think of what and incredible group of people that gave us this bombastic powerhouse voice that just radiates pure emotion and feelings. R.I.P. Meatloaf you will always be remembered for your music and acting.
amazing performer . Icon who will be deeply missed . It was a given to have his albums in the 70's and 80's .Every one knew the words to his songs and well being 57 years old still have it on cd.
Epic singer - epic song. Still remember hearing it for the first time back in ‘78. Insane then and till insane today. Meat Loaf RIP and Jim Steinman were gold together. Great reaction
Meat was a true performer. Ha always said he was an actor first, a singer second. Immensely talented and gone too soon. Keep in mind Jim Steinman is the writer of almost all of his songs. But Meat brought them to life!

First we had to have a world without Freddie Mercury - and now Meatloaf as well. Meatloaf will be another who no one will ever come near to how huge his voice and stage persona was, his like you only get once! RIP.
For Crying Out Loud … those lyrics are more sentimental than dramatic, but just shows another side of Meat and Jim’s brilliance. That song would be at the top of my list for The Rob Squad to react to next.
Meat left so much of himself on stage that he would literally pass out as soon as he finished. They kept oxygen waiting for him. The man was a genius with Jim Steinmann. The two were to rock what Rogers and Hammerstein were to musicals.
Just a note: In this video, which is obviously not a live performance, the "girl" is Carla Devito, who also toured with MeatLoaf on the BOOH tour and others. On the album, the female vocals were performed by Ellen Foley, and on the album cover were credited to "Mrs. Loud." Ellen Foley also played public defender, Billy Young, on the second season of the NBC comedy "Night Court."
Meat considered himself a performer, not a singer. The acting was very much part of it, it's who he was. The music though, that was Jim Steinman, he wrote everything. Meat performed.
Two songs you should put in your line up should be "For Crying out Loud" and "Heaven Can Wait". They are both beautiful in sound and meaningful in lyrics.
Chuck those songs are great but really this is "HIM" by far his best song, it is an epic & that should be reacted to afterwards, you have to hear the song in one go.
"Meatloaf it up"! It's a term now, LMAO! :) :) :) I love your enthusiasm, you make it so fun. I've heard the music, have not seen the videos, so THANK YOU!
Amber, Absolutely love your insight, interpretation and thoughts on the music i love and grew up with. Almost like you were there back then. You are very in tune with what is going on in each performance. Jay, more Bee Gees and Cheap Trick. Love and appreciate your channel.
In case you missed it, the woman who sings on Paradise bu the dasboard light is Ellen Foley. She sings on Bat out of Hell and the woman in the promo videos and who went with Meat loaf on the tours is Karla DeVito. Ellen Foley has a really intresting career of her own, look up her debut solso single "we belong to the night". It is perfection
Dear Amber, I absolutely felt what you were feeling through every step of this song! It was almost painful to see you jamming out, knowing that he "wasn't going to make it" out of the next verse. It's amazing to go back in time, to when this album first came out, and to feel those feels all over again, thanks to you! Keep on doing your thing-, it's quite beautiful. 💕
Another great Meat Loaf song! Please check out You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth and I'd Do Anything For Love(But I Won't Do That) next. Also 2 outstanding Meat Loaf songs! 😀
This is my all time favorite Meat Loaf song. I'm glad I found your channel. It's so great to see people discovering and enjoying so many of the artists and songs that mean the world to me.
This made my day !!! Thank you !!! Sidenote: Air Supply's "Making Love Out of Nothing at All", Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and Celine Dion's "Coming Back to Me Nowç were a originally written for Meat Loaf by his co-songwriter Jim Steinman.
Meatloaf learnt his stage presents by 4 years on Broadway with the rocky horror show and a few years before that with hair (ask your grandparents) and the whole album was written by Jim Steinman the guitar that sounds like a motor bike is played by Todd Rudgren. Meatloaf was also in the movie version of the Rocky horror picture show and sadly left us to soon but the brightest stars go out first. R.I.P MEATLOF. PS read the lyrics every track on the album is a story and a monster.
Man I jammed this so loud from my 8 track in the day, LOL! His "Bat out of Hell 2 " has a song 'Life is a Lemon and I want my money back" it's worth a listen. Much love Jay & Amber!
This is so epic. Everytime I listen to this I have this big smile on my face. R.I.P. Marvin Lee. You will bring a smile to so many faces until the end of time. ♥️
Ah, Meat Loaf. Powerhouse performer, powerhouse vocalist, powerhouse of a man...and yet privately he was a shy person with social anxiety, who ran away from home as a teenager after his mother died. Actually, Jim Steinman (seen at the piano) wrote all the songs, but Meat delivered them in a way that made you feel like you were right in that story with him. Both remarkable men in their own rights, but together they made magic. They'll both be a big miss. Edit: and yes, Meat could remove a jacket like nobody's business.
Dayum!!! You 2 are made for each other! The way you bounce off each other. Thank you for an absolute all time classic!!! Your intensity, your honesty, your fun....thank you for being so refreshing!
There will never be another performer like Meatloaf. Never. I've been a fan since my mother first introduced me to him in 1978, way back when I was a young boy. RIP my dear Meatloaf. Thank you Amber and Jordan for paying homage to this magnificent artist. Love you guys!
Jim Steinman wrote the songs They collaborated on most of Meat's albums. You see him playing the piano in the video. He died about 9 months before Meat.

That's why he was in Rocky Horror. The other singers that they auditioned weren't able to sing the lyrics so quickly while still enunciating.

Two songs you should put in your line up should be "For Crying out Loud" and "Heaven Can Wait". They are both beautiful in sound and meaningful in lyrics.
I love For Crying Out Loud! The quiet gentleness that builds into the big Meat Loaf sound is just so good.
Chuck those songs are great but really this is "HIM" by far his best song, it is an epic & that should be reacted to afterwards, you have to hear the song in one go.
Yes both!!
Ellen Foley also does a magnificent "Heaven can wait".. the female voice of Paradise 2out 3 Took the words etc.
"Meatloaf it up"! It's a term now, LMAO! :) :) :) I love your enthusiasm, you make it so fun. I've heard the music, have not seen the videos, so THANK YOU!
yes indeed guys he left a massive mark in rock history he was the only one nobody else was compared to him he was another iconic legendary figure
Amber, Absolutely love your insight, interpretation and thoughts on the music i love and grew up with. Almost like you were there back then. You are very in tune with what is going on in each performance. Jay, more Bee Gees and Cheap Trick. Love and appreciate your channel.
It's a shame this one got held up in copyright issues, one thing I love about this song is the "Motorcycle" is pure electric guitar!
IMO, this is his best song and his best vocal performance by far. An absolute EPIC song and album! R.I.P. 🙏🙏
This NEVER GETS OLD!!
And am sure it NEVER will!
R.I.P MEATLOAF. ✌
Awesome job 👏 👍 being a BIG fan of music 🎶 I see how much you guys are passionate about music as well Rock on!!!
Would loved to have seen meat and Freddie perform together 👍the best stage performers ever👏👏👏
You don't "hear" a Meatloaf/Steineman song, you feel it, you experience it.
for sure "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" is a must listen,...btw love your guys stuff :)
R.I.P. Meatloaf one of a kind
What a beautiful reaction
So glad you enjoyed both this song and your discovery
One of the greatest rock songs ever created!! Just amazing in every way! RIP!!
I was crying by the end, unbelievable voice!
Dear Amber,
I absolutely felt what you were feeling through every step of this song! It was almost painful to see you jamming out, knowing that he "wasn't going to make it" out of the next verse. It's amazing to go back in time, to when this album first came out, and to feel those feels all over again, thanks to you! Keep on doing your thing-, it's quite beautiful. 💕
He was literally out of this WORLD!!!
Another great Meat Loaf song! Please check out You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth and I'd Do Anything For Love(But I Won't Do That) next. Also 2 outstanding Meat Loaf songs! 😀
I love seeing the younger generations enjoying classic music so much.. Gives me hope.....
This is my all time favorite Meat Loaf song. I'm glad I found your channel. It's so great to see people discovering and enjoying so many of the artists and songs that mean the world to me.
Fantastic reaction!!! Meatloaf was a great, great performer!! Amber's beautiful smile says it all! Much love from New Mexico!!
The writer, Jim Steinman, wrote the song and was the gentleman on the piano. Jim passed away last April too.
Not just a singer but a TRUE PERFORMER.. RIP.
Man I jammed this so loud from my 8 track in the day, LOL! His "Bat out of Hell 2 " has a song 'Life is a Lemon and I want my money back" it's worth a listen. Much love Jay & Amber!
Especially the bridge. The bridge of that song is epic.
Rock and Roll dreams come true was amazing
Did you "play" that piano trill on top of your dash? (you KNOW you did!)
I saw Meat live in the 80's, you are absolutely right, it's a performance, like a rock opera all the way through. Awesome
Amber, I think you would really like "For Crying Out Loud". Such a beautiful & theatrical song. Do the studio version though, not the live version.
You have to see the expression on your faces at the chorus! Priceless! Nice to see young people enjoy the music of when I was young!
The other Canadian Power Trio is Triumph. Magic Power is a great place to start. They have a lot of great, inspiring songs.
Love you guys, you're awesome. Just subscribed.
ambers expressions blew me away she totally got the passion of this song
What an amazing performance! No one does it like him...he really Meatloafed it up and took us on a journey with this one!
Meatloaf was a musical drama genius. He was more that just rock n roll, he was having as much fun singing his music as you had listening to it.
Absolutely amazing! Nobody did it, or will ever do it, like Meat Loaf.
Meatloaf certainly put his everything he has into each and every performance
he sweat buckets at his concerts
@@davexvs he sure did
I saw him do this song live, twice from the front row. Amazing performer! Always put everything he had in every show!
Meatloaf was a showman of the highest calibre with a voice that matched. Rest in Peace my man, Rest in Peace.
Produced by Todd Rungdren (of Utopia). He also plays lead guitar on the album.
Meatloaf was a THEATRICAL genius. The MUSICAL genius came from Jim Steinman. 😁
I couldn’t have worded it better.
@@skatekr3w13 steinman could have though
I just saw this after making the same comment!
Jim Steinman wrote the songs
They collaborated on most of Meat's albums. You see him playing the piano in the video. He died about 9 months before Meat.
Please do “ I’ll do anything for love but I won’t do that”! You HAVE to do the official video!! Amber will ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Please ….. 🙏
Hey Amber, Meatloaf acts & sings in the movie "Rocky Horror Show". So good!!!
His preformance was pure theater. You're drawn in and become part of the experience. 🙏
Y'alls reaction to this song was awesome. But your reaction when he flew off the cliff and crashed was beautiful
