@@EntropicCheese I wouldn't recommend using a resistor voltage divider to get the required 3.3 volts. I would like to tell you that when you are using a zener diode in reverse, you don't block the current, because one of zener diode properties, it can flow current in both directions. when placing the zener diode in reverse, it regulate the voltage to its specification, for example a 5v zener diode when it's placed with 10Vs and a resistor, you will measure 5v exactly across. the diode. sorry if I sounded rude.

Stefan Ioan if i remember right, install the drivers for the controller wired or not it doesnt matter which there both the same driver. then go into control panel, then device manager, then right click and click properties on the unknown usb device with a yellow triangle next to it. there should be a drop down menu somewhere in the pop up window, click it and select microsoft common controller. i think thats about it if it doesnt work message me and ill re do the install and write down how... btw if you disconnect the device and turn the computer off and on again it wont recognize the device and you will have to do it again. currently trying to figure out how to stop this.
I was just looking at my broken xbox360 last night pondering how this would be possible, as my wired 360 controller is now dead, is this possible without the solder or the diode lol! i want to do this on the cheap like no tools required....
you can break open the power supply brick and look at the green underside of the board. all the way at the end of the short side of the rectangle is a diod labeled D101. this is perfect. you should only use one diod but if you fuck up there are 6 more on the rest of the power supply.
for me, my receiver only works in the USB slot that i first used to set it up, I tried everything but i cannot get the device to recognize in any other slot. could be a fluke, but keep that in mind. set it up in the port you want to keep it in.
So I have it all put together, but I used a random LED that I had in my workshop. I get power to the board AND my computer recognizes it with the drivers installed... But I only get power to it for a few seconds and then it will disconnect from my computer. Help?

the video isn't even that old :P tbh, i'm just watchin this video out of randomness, since i already have a wireless xbox reciever for my pc, although it's not an official one (but works just as well as if it were official :P )
please do one for a new Xbox RF module please
Dude seriously I don't feel like going to the ONLY place in my area to buy a diode as radioshack is VERY far from my home... I have a diode and you said I can use ANY diode... I have some 1N5392 diodes laying around and a board... will it work? or kill it? I killed my first one trying the led idea this is my LAST BOARD. The diodes rating is IN5392 Rectifier Diode 1.5A 100V
Oh thanks but the ones I have work just fine. I didn't want to use an led. Last time it destroyed my board.
+ITXtutor I Have the reciever and the controller, but I don't have the xbox 360 to synchronise, what can I do? Thxz
Thanks for a great step by step I got mine up a running on the first try.
Thanks for the video. May I ask, the Diode Zener 5.1V, is it 1 watt or 0.5 watt?
did you ever try either?
Thanx. I did this ages ago and trying to remember how to sync without a charge and play. Im 99% there was a way for rockband instruments, but hell if I can remember.
EDIT: Replaced the LED with the same zener you used and it works like a charm now, thanks for the video!
I did exactly the same as you did, except I used an LED instead of a diode. My main problem now is that when I want to install the drivers like you show in your video, it say's it can't find any compatible drivers. The device info tells me there's a Code 43 error, which seems to be some USB connection error.....
Any thoughts? I would love for this to work!
the zener diod is diffrent, the led only a light but have a diffrent haracteristic then zener
NEXT JOO NEED SOME SOLJAAA hahah Good tutorial :D
thx buddy, i followed your tutorial and everything works great!
i made all the procedure correctly my windows recognize the device ok the drivers ok but no flashing lights or anything on the module. What am i doing wrong?
might do this at some point. it's ridiculous how expensive wireless receivers are for the xbox 360 controller...
Do not bother the driver does not exist anymore.
Just a heads up. I followed these instructions to a T and the device refused to start after installing the drivers and whatnot.
Turned out I needed to install TWO diodes on my 5V line. The device recognized immediately afterwards.
when I plug in my receiver, my computer says "USB malfanctioned" and the receiver doesn't show up as "Unknown Device" but as "Unknown USB devie Device Desprictor Failed". Can anyone assist me with this problem please?
you have power and ground cable in right place so just invert the data cables
I know it's been a year but could you fix the problem? Are you using Win 8 or 10 aswell when this problem occured?
bump
Excellent video! I have the slim version, which does not have those solder points. Do you have any idea how I can modify this one to work?
me as well so sad
@@gch2085 there is a video for slim xbox receptori did it and it works but can sync my drum set dont know how
is the diode a Must have for this to work?
When you say that I have to sync my controller to the board, do you mean that I have to sync it only once before, or sync it, leave the controller on, and then attach the board to my computer?
sync it before should be ok.
@@TechMagnet Hi there , managed to install drivers but cannot sync the controllers, got the rf module for a friends old broken xbox, is there a way to sync without the xbox itself. thanks
What do I have to do if my Xbox 360 is broken and I used the controller on a other Xbox and I can't sync it. Did I make this whole thing for nothing :( PLease help me.
I like how you know how to do stuff like that :-)
is there a place I can buy one of these? I used to have one but now I cant find it
+Lost Key www.ebay.com/itm/221850003540
It's called ebay. E - b a y
Haha i knew that "fixed" rrod 360 would come in handy one day!! Thanks man i have success with it!!
I don't understand...Zener diode in direct polarization mode behaves like other normal diodes introducing a voltage drop of 0.7V. Why do you suggest the use of this type of diode?
Thanks for this video, went surprisingly smooth.
i just used the usb from rear with a female end half the shield removed for the pins on bottom dont spark and from there i used speaker wire connectors to connect the diode and presto it works if u see the red and orange light u have pins touching the same connector pin but it has a really good fit and flawlessly working btw i had two extra consoles to experiment
thanks works perfectly, a bit of trouble getting the receiver to recognize the drivers but got it in the end :D
I have the same problem , how you did it ? ...i can't get it to be recognize by the computer.
Stefan Ioan
exchange D+ and D- wires,
out of curiosity what would this do exactly?
I think I am in love with you. You made it work! THANK YOU
I was just looking at my broken xbox360 last night pondering how this would be possible, as my wired 360 controller is now dead, is this possible without the solder or the diode lol! i want to do this on the cheap like no tools required....
Hey man not sure if you know this but the site for the drivers is down and the old ones that I've been using no longer work which is strange.
Hello, I need help, I have the xbox 360 rf02 module, I already connect to the usb port but it does not detect the pc.
What can I do in this case.
You need to use a diod! you can get the correct diod from the xbox power supply. it's labeled "D101"
you can break open the power supply brick and look at the green
underside of the board. all the way at the end of the short side of the
rectangle is a diod labeled D101. this is perfect. you should only use
one diod but if you fuck up there are 6 more on the rest of the power
supply.
for me, my receiver only works in the USB slot that i first used to set
it up, I tried everything but i cannot get the device to recognize in
any other slot. could be a fluke, but keep that in mind. set it up in
the port you want to keep it in.
I found it a zener diode on the net but it 5.1V and 2W. It counts? I take it so the link your diode it 5.1V and 0.5W
can i use a 3.3v Zener Diode insted of 5.1 as dont the rf need 3.3?
Can somebody reply please? I got 3.3v and 5.6v Zener diode, will they work?
If I made this would it work if I plugged it into my Xbox series X?
Will this work if I take off the motherboard adatper on the back side?
Or does the lock have a certain part of the circuit that is needed to work?
Play and charge kit auto-syncs the controller to the board?
I didn't have IN4001 diodes but works perfectly on two IN4007 diodes connected in series. Windows 10
You need to show a video with all different models because my boards a little different than yours
So I have it all put together, but I used a random LED that I had in my workshop. I get power to the board AND my computer recognizes it with the drivers installed... But I only get power to it for a few seconds and then it will disconnect from my computer. Help?
Hi I have just wired this up trying to get it working on windoze 11 any idea where to find the right drivers that link isn't taking me to them?
Thanks.
I have mine directly plugged with a usb cable not even soldered , its been 3 months and no problems at all it is 24/7 plugged in while using w7.
Super Video danke dafür aber eine Frage hab ich ist es egal Wieviel Watt die hat Zener Diode 5,1V hat ? hab da echt keine Ahnung davon
Does the wattage matter for the 5.1 V diode? or is it simply any 5.1 V Diode?
This took me so long had to do the connections twice but thank you off to gaming:D
Pefect. Do not ask me why, but there is a way to fully disconnect the wifi of the RF Unit? I need zero wifi emissions.
I've already disconnected the unit for the internet connection, but I can't to disconnect all RF Unit.
(I use wired controls)
Can i use a led instead of that zener
i just made one:) thnx for the idea and the tut !
Excellent tutorial and explanation!
If you need a RF board, maybe you you can buy it from amazon, the brand is Gotor.
Will an led work as a diode? I cant find any stores that sell diodes here.
Hello ITX tutor, I have tried this one on a REV. A board on win 8. Red light comes and Shows Device failed to start code 10... what to do. Please reply...
Yeah dude,I really enCHoyded your tutorial😆
Can I reinstall the receiver inside my xbox?
Hey man, I did the steps and it works, and gets to the Unrecognized Device popup, but I can't add the driver manually to work with the receiver, Windows gives me an error telling me that the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows driver isn't compatible with my device and I should get one correct for my Windows version even though it is correct. I have Windows 7 x64. What do I do?
DO you know if i can do the reverse, because the reciever in my old console died and i need to replace it.
I have an xbox 360 controller that I want to connect to my phone (galaxy S10e) for mobile games that have controller support... if i had a usbc to usb adapter, could i plug this project into my phone and it still work?
do you think its is possible to plug in an Xbox 360 RF Module to the wii u in any way to make xbox controllers work on the wii u?
Will this work with the g force x box steering wheel? Also does it work with windows 10/11?
