My mom always used four strands of embroidery thread. For me, that was the hardest part of this craft.....separating the threads. She liked the way 4 looked.....she was fantastic too. Miss her.

ugh i don’t have videos off the top of my head but i know a lot of people don’t tie their stitches! in japanese sashiko embroidery if i’m not mistaken they do this back and forth stitching that basically locks in the thread. i’ve done that before

buttttttt that being said i’m not a careful embroider by any measure.

I've watched a few different videos showing these different stitches, but what no one ever does is give examples of when you would use certain stitches.. Like, ok, great, i can do a back stitch, but... why? is there a reason that particular stitch would be used over another? or is simply "it looks nice to me".

  • @jwkittles

Using a Velcro round to separate floss strands is awful. It damages the floss. Simply hold the thread approx 1/4” from the end with one hand and tap the end of the thread with a finger on the other hand. Keep tapping right against the end of the 6 strands and they will separate easily. Pull ONE strand out at a time straight from the end.
Ps: this video drives me nuts. Why change the angle Of the camera just when you’re showing how to do this ditch? You’re not actually showing anything. Just put the camera over top of the hoop and leave it there.
