There is a web cam set up there. So you can monitor the crosswalk any time of day, from anywhere in the world.
We'll be IP blocking anyone who calls it a crosswalk though.
IT'S CALLED A ZEBRA CROSSING
@@4879daniel how do you see it
@@starlinyn9292 www.earthcam.com/world/england/london/abbeyroad/?cam=abbeyroad_uk
It's pretty cool 😎
The occasional awkward moment is when Sir Paul is driving up that road on the way to the studio while fans are trying to recreate the crossing.
Fans: "Is that him?"
Paul: "Oh, jeez...."
And then Paul just runs over them with his car
@@josephstalin7506 thank you Joseph Stalin!
I used to live on Abbey Road for about 7 years. Used to cycle over that crossing on an almost daily basis.
@Paul Rose
That's a blasphemy!
How about the radical Islam Muslims there? They say London is 60% radical Muslims there now! Because you have Islamic illegal Muslim mayor there that is letting them into a country!
@Martin Shkreli I'm doing what that the leftist radicals are doing? what are you talkin about are you taking some kind of drugs and drinking alcohol drinks again why are you doing this? Have you ever had your ass kicked by 4 year old? Do you want me to come to Kansas you want me to come to your house with my son?

That's on every Beatles fan's bucket list, so cool!
I love that you crossed it barefoot! Love the video!
I bought my first Beatle album in 1965 at 13 yrs old but my father who hated the Beatles had my little brothers scratch it up with knives. My brothers were 3 and 5 yrs old then. I bought another album and kept it secret after that. I told my father about 10 yrs ago as someone was playing rap music, hey dad don’t the Beatles sound great today? He had to admit they did. My father passed in 2015.
I hope it wasn't the Rubber Soul album. Phenomenal record. How could anyone not like the Beatles?
@@sunnyd4734 My dad did not like the Beatles but I was shocked that in later life,I heard him listening to one or 2 of their songs. Some people my age don't like The Beatles(I'm 65) -just ornery I guess-but their grand kids dig it.
My dad says he respects them, but he doesn't like any of their songs other than Helter Skelter
@@sunnyd4734 you got that right. Rubber Soul rules.
Sounds like a hypocrite
I'm gonna buy the 50th anniversary of Let It Be for my dad. My grandfather had a giant collection of vinyl, but not a single Beatles album... this mustn't go unchanged!
That was one of my stops with my new husband in the 80's. We went inside and made it as far as the elevators before we were stopped. Very politely I might add! The Secretary hand us a sharpie +suggested we write a message on the wall outside. Then took photo's of us in the doorway with'Abbey Road" over our heads! ( wow) Photos also at the zebra crossing. Traffic stopped +I noticed the cabbie just pulled out a paper, started reading! No honking or yelling. Best honeymoon ever!
I finally got my first Beatles album today from my local record store and I got magical mystery tour and I listened to it as soon as I got home I’ve had a good day lol
Hope you’ve bought more since then.
What's a crosswalk?
Z E B R A C R O S S I N G
Sidewalk=footpath. Nothing to do with a crossing.
@@mattyoz0 In the UK they're known as Zebra crossings due to thier colour... We don't know them as crosswalks.
Here in Chile they are called "Paso de Zebra" so it isn't that weird
@@andybetts1484 What's that got to do with what i said? I'm an Aussie, we call them Zebra crossings, too.
In the video, he said crosswalk, (like 4 times) not sidewalk. It is known as a crosswalk, another term is a zebra crossing, they are both the same thing just another term describing the area where people cross the street. If your gonna criticize the terminology he uses describing something get it right, he never said sidewalk.
I’m the oldest of four siblings, and a few years ago the four of us went to London and walked the crosswalk. It was an amazing experience, just to be there.
I went there for a lecture on the history of the studio. Held in the hallowed Studio 2 , you were even allowed to climb the stairs into the control room , photo opportunity galore.
As part of the show they got the original 4 (?) pianos used for the jarring final chord of “Day in the life” and picked four lucky punters to crash that chord together and to hear it ring out in the very place it was recorded and on the exact same instruments was a special thing indeed to hear.
You were only a few hundred yards away from McCartneys house on Cavendish Road.
nice
Best places in London that I’ve been to
St Paul’s Cathedral
Westminster Abbey
Buckingham Palace
Trafalgar Square
Abbey Road(obviously)
Actually the best place is Kew Gardens.
You should go to penny lane
A concert at the Albert Hall is a must see (I saw Steve Winwood and his band there back in the late 1980’s).
CuttErX Penny lane that the Beatles sang about is not in London
Wow to awesome my wife and I were there a week after you September 21st we did a week in London and then four days in Liverpool and three days in Wales. We did a Beatles and Led Zeppelin Adventure. Thankfully my wife wanted to do it for her big 50th birthday! Needless to say I was all on board with that! We didn't get to go into Abbey Road studios though supposedly somebody was recording at the time. Rented a car in London ugh! Lol then drove to Wales and Liverpool. Stonehenge, John Bonham's grave, Raglan Castle where Robert Plant filmed his dream sequence from the Song remains the same! Oh took the Magical Mystery tour bus trip in Liverpool. Amazing trip!!!
I gotta walk this crosswalk before I die

I went there in 1985. It was obviously a lot more like the album cover. The white stripes were solid, trees and background more similar. Not busy at all when I was there. Much more a tourist attraction now than it was then. So cool to be there!
I recently bought the picture dice record for the 50th anniversary and it look amazing
Also London:
Savile Row - iconic location of the Beatles rooftop concert in 1969; theres now a plaque commemorating it
Soho - (Referenced in Kinks' 'Lola') if you get to the backstreets, around Berwick Street there are a host of more independent shops. As well as couple record shops like Sister Ray & Reckless Records
Along the Southbank is a nice walk; crossing the Westminster Bridge from Parliament and then walking past the London Eye towards the National Theatre and Waterloo is a nice walk. Also areas such as Green Park and near Piccadilly; and the iconic Hyde Park close by as well.
If you time it right you could go to Westminster and see Extinction Rebellion protesting too
Another place that is quite bit away from the centre is Barnes. It is home to the Olympic Studios (which is now a luxury cinema) and across the road is a record shop specialising in Olympic recordings. It's also the place where Marc Bolan died in 1977.
Glad you had the opportunity to get there and do that...you're a good guy with a great channel!
The beatles made the abbey road a legendary place.

IS BEEN 50 YEARS AND THE CITY HASN'T REPAINTED THE ZEBRA.
Yes, amazing tourists cross it every day and the local council can't give it a lick of paint.
It gets repainted from time to time because the traffic wears it out. The “state” of it depends when one visits.
For some reason I was waiting for today's episode specifically. And finally, it turns out that today's episode is unusual and splendid.
That looked so cool man! Bare foot, very similar colour suit to Paul.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Great idea! 😀 That’s the best way to celebrate 50th anniversary of this astonishing album. Especially with this suit, bare feet and 50/60s haircut 😉
What fun! Thank you for the good work you do, and Happy New Year!
Enjoyed the video. Been a Beatles fan since 1964, when as a 9-year old, I saw them on the Ed Sullivan Show. Glad you made it to Abbey Road.
Awesome!
I hope you enjoyed your visit to 'sunny' old England 👍
i would love to see a liverpool trip or something in the future. u can still find their childhood homes, penny lane, strawberry fields forever... etc

Yep! On my bucket list! Thx for sharing this! :)
Great you made it there .... I know what you mean with “hallowed” ground ... you get goose bumps when you’re there. So as far as things to do in London .... go on a site called London Walks. They have an array of 10 pound per walk (2-3 hours) tours that are hosted by very (I mean very!) knowledgeable guides. Music tours, history, pub crawls ... you name it. I’ve been on several and have never once been disappointed. There’s your tip for the day ... oh and by the way ... Happy New Year to you and to everyone who follows your super fun informative and very geeky site!
Great stuff. Happy New Year.
1. Westminster Abbey
2. Houses of Parliament
3. St. Paul's Cathedral
4. Trafalgar Square (good place to come up on the Tube (Charing Cross station) since it is the geographic centre of London)
5. Supreme Court
6. Royal Albert Hall (especially July-September when the Proms are on)
7. Travers and Emery (music shop in St. Martin's Lane, especially good for classical sheet music)
8. The Chandos (great little pub at the intersection between St. Martin's Place, St. Martin's Lane and Charing Cross Road with opera theming in the upstairs bar/dining room).
9. Handel & Hendrix in London (in Brook Street in Mayfair, the house where Handel lived and the adjoining flat where Jimi Hendrix lived)
10. Royal Naval College, Greenwich (free admission!)
Whoa, I vacationed in London for the first time this year and was at Abbey Road on the 7th of September. Just missed ya! I was checking out Liverpool by then. It was fab!
I go over the crossing regularly. It's STILL atmospheric, almost daily, not so much when raining!
I'm a vinyl enthusiast too (+ Audio Recording Engineer, but not at EMI).
Good vid. Well done for asking all to be responsible on crossing. (Nearly always busy across there).
I doubt there's any dispute that this is not only one of the top 2 or 3 albums ever recorded...but absolutely the most famous album cover in music history.
Very cool. Great video.
I was there a month after you. It was AWESOME!!!!!
Круто. Happy New Year, Retroguy!
No.3 Saville Row in London where the Beatles Apple headquarters used to be is now a store called Abercrombie & Fitch. As you walk through the entrance, there’s a small memorial to the Beatles which details when they purchased the building. Although it’s a clothes store, you can pick up the vibe of the place knowing that the Beatles were once here. One thing though, when I asked the female shop assistant whether I could go up on to the roof, she said an emphatic “no”! I think it’s due to health and safety concerns.
Made the Abbey Road pilgrimage early Dec. Picked up the 50th anniversary deluxe edition from the store. Special vibe around this place
Thanks for this👍
I had the privilege to sit and work in the control room and in studio 2 I work For EMI as a Reordering Engineer At Abbey Road for awhile I thought I was heaven. and I had a chance to have tea with Paul one time I was one of the lucky ones that got to hold the Masters of The Beatles and some of the solo tapes. I hope they will send me back there again one day

You should definitely attend one of their August lectures they do every year! They let you go in studio 2 and then they do a whole lecture about the history of the studio! Definitely do it, I did it and it was amazing
Very nice!!! thanks.

You don't get out much, do you?
It was part of a tour of The Abbey rd studios and I'm a lifelong Beatles fan so yes.....it was very special to me.
I also had to fly half way around the world to get there.
@@darrinlawton2748 OK, going inside is a bit different. I have spent weeks working in there, so after a while the novelty wears off.

Wow that was great!! Just to be at that iconic location would be awesome Abbey Road is my favorite Beatles album😁
Hey. thats a great video. watching you on Abbey Road.

Excellent video, I did the same thing a few years ago. In the UK, it's a Zebra crossing, rather than a crosswalk, but that just adds to the retro fun.
They made that place so legendary... Cruel, cruel time! We want The Beatles back, John and George back...
Why does no one mention the zigzag lines one the road when they talk about how much it has changed? Surely I can't be the only one who notices them.
L. Marc the zig zags were added to all UK zebra crossings in early 1970s to ensure that sight lines between drivers and pedestrians could not be blocked by parked vehicles.
@@user-ky6vw5up9m
I know, I just wondered how come no one ever mentions them, because they're one of the most obvious differences.
Yeah the zigzag lines are kinda annoying and stand out a lot when comparing them to the OG cover, thats why I airbrushed them out of the photos I took from when I visited the crosswalk to get more of an authentic look lol
Hello there. Thank you for your video. I’m English and live a short distance from London these days. However, I’d like to share that I grew up with the Beatles. When I returned to seriously listen to their later music (ie Abbey Rd) as an 18 yr old... I simply didn’t realise that they’d moved on from twist and shout (we had that record at home). I was tripping on LSD one night in 1975 and cried as I was so moved by Here Comes the Sun King. Perhaps a silly anecdote but true.
I took a selfie as I was jogging, just to be different
Shame you didn’t go this year as the Studio was open to the public for 5 days as part of their 90th celebration. It was absolutely awesome to look
round & have some really cool demonstrations.
Proud to say that I walked the crosswalk with 3 buddies in early August 1986. I decided to play the McCartney role and go barefoot. A couple of young Brazilian guys took our photo. Yes, we did hold up traffic a bit, and the drivers (bless them) seemed to grudgingly put up with it.
That looks like an Erickson building behind the Alexandria Road sign and although I either didn't see or notice the Abbey Road crossing I do remember seeing that very building when I was there a couple months ago. My cousin so close to there!

You bloody legend!
London has so many great Album cover spots. Abbey Road Crosswalk, Heddon Street, Battersea Power Station (sadly no flying pigs most of the time)
That Guy somewhere there is a flower bed that inspired Sgt. Pepper cover but I have never been able to pin down its location.
"Crusswurk" [0:14]. Great vid.
I’ve crossed Abbey Road twice. I also went to 1 saville road where Apple used to be and they played that rooftop concert. Unfortunately nothing to see there now... no markings are anything... but if you’re a fan, you do feel the vibe.
Visit the street of the Ziggy Stardust cover.
Paul McCartney's London home is a short walk from Abbey Road (in Cavendish Avenue). It's also worth going to Saville Row to see the building that was formerly the Apple Records HQ and where they performed the roof top concert in January 1969. There are of course dozens of other Beatles-related sights but they are among the most iconic. I walked the Abbey Road crossing in 2017 on the 50th anniversary of the release of Sgt Pepper. It was crowded!
There was a lot less traffic in 1969.
Visit the Wallace collection in Manchester Square off Oxford street. A beautiful house full of wonderful paintings, porcelain and furniture from 17,18 and 19th centuries.
I crossed it on a weekend in 1986, it was a ghost town that day other than fairly frequent cars, I was absolutely the only pedestrian anywhere around.
Off the top of my head -
Manchester Sq - Home of the old EMI building in the NW corner of the square, lot's of promo pics taken around that time of The Beach Boys, Pink Floyd and Roy Harper as well as the cover of Please Please Me.
Montague Sq - Where Ringo Starr kept a flat in the late sixties, John & Yoko lived there for a while.
Marylebone Station and Boston Pl - featured in A Hard Day's Night quite a bit and mostly unchanged, magic Alex had Apple Electronics in a Mews House in Boston Place also.
EMI building where the Beatles appear on the balcony, looking down was demolished in the 1970s.
Maybe Harry Nilsson's appartement - where Keith Moon and Mama Cass died - is still standing ?
Born in 1968 the Beatles where always there, but it wasn't til I was 20 driving back from college when WLUP Chicago played complete Album sides. That day "Magical Mystery Tour" side 1 was played when I actually really heard them for the first time.

Man! I didn't know there was a store there. I thought you weren't able to get past the fence.
kirchfam the store is in the building next door to the studio but it is the Studio’s official shop and it has on-line store also.
Yes I took look. It seems to me the BBC and locals are wrong. The crossing has NOT moved despite many claims online and elsewhere. There are a couple of pointers. On the right side as you leave the crossing, there is a drain and lamp-post. Both are still there. Also on the left (in 1969 out-takes) there are 2 manhole covers. They are still there. Also the distance between crossing and entrance to studio is unchanged. I have been inside. They opened it once in the 20 years I have lived here. It is about 3 times the size of the house seen from the street. It's all down below and out the back.
I agree. The crossing today is in its 1969 location. In the uncropped version of the 1969 photo, there is a small metal “water valve cover” on the third white stripe from the right. That same valve cover is in the same view of the crossing today.
The house Paul used to live in is within easy walking distance from the studio. Get a Beatle's map and go there too, since it's so close. I did in 1990.
Hello, I was there before too, I almost got run over by fast moving traffic.....John from North Carolina.
I was there three years ago and it was crowded and really hard to take a photo because everyone just keeps walking nonstop.
But I did not know there was a Beatles store nearby, can you tell me where so I can go there next time.
Went there back in Summer of '17. Really cool. Unfortunately there was construction. However, the idea of doing the crossing was unfathomable. WAY too touristy for me.
