I do my best to keep up with them for the first few days after a video comes out, but due to the volume of comments on all of my videos, and to the general hustle and bustle of life, I must give up the fight after a while. If you are leaving a question four or more days after a video comes out I can't guarantee I'll see it, but perhaps one of my other viewers knows the answer and can help out. Thanks in advance to those who contribute and share their knowledge. Cheers and stay safe everyone!

If Harley’s growth strategy is to make bikes the majority of the population (who are bike riders) cannot afford, and only the elites (who are not bike riders) can afford, they have succeeded and are doomed to failure. Good job new CEO.

And I got news for u the CVO line isn't for broke dicks. The people that buy those bikes got money to burn. And there will always be a market for them. Just Rolex watches, 300k$ RVs and other shit the masses cant afford. They got plenty of bikes at decent prices.

As a long-term Harley owner, and as someone who worked 5 years in a Harley main dealer I agree with everything you said in this video
Their corporate greed now oozes from everything they do: It was going in that direction at the turn of the last century when I was working with them, but seems to have got infinitely worse in the last twenty years.
Just to think, in my day we were putting a admittedly basic 883 Sportster on the road for a new buyer for £4995 including all taxes, a Dyna SuperGlide was only around seven and a half grand and full-on Wurlitzer bling machine was around fifteen, but the main point is that a guy or lady could get on a real Harley for under five big ones.
Cheapest model over $13000?, trikes for fifty thousand? Way to piss on the working people H-D.
That's why I'll be keeping my 18 year old FXDWG for pretty much ever.
Buy used, make it your own, and keep it running and screw the greedy elitist MoCo

I've always owned Japanese bikes, but I'm not a Harley hater for sure. I actually like a lot of things about them and someday I will probably get myself one. One thing I really like about HD is there approach to dealerships and events. Their staff (and least at the dealerships I visit) are folks who love motorcycles and chatting about them. The Honda dealerships where I've purchased my bikes are way less enthusiastic and never have any events. It's more like buying an appliance. This has been my experience anyway. I'm sure there are many exceptions.

Being an expensive premium brand works... if you're a privately owned manufacturer. HD is a massive publicly traded company that absolutely needs high volume of sales to sustain its business model and no amount of margin is going to save them once they milk their current aging customers and realise there's nothing left. I give it 5 years max for the current approach to last, and that's generous. I think we will either see massive backpedaling from the board and CEO (they won't care, by then they would have made their money) or a buy out by another corp. I think it would be some form of poetic justice if they were purchased by a Japanese or Indian brand down the line.

Man, we would have all been going crazy and the future direction for HD would be more interesting.

I’ve owned three Harleys over my lifetime, spent a lot of ‘hard earned wages’ to make it happen. I rode them big distances and was not always happy with their reliability. Although I met some nice people along the way, it quickly dawned that ‘ownership’ is a very expensive hobby. Parts, servicing, repairs all became prohibitive as other day to day ‘cost of living’ sky rocketed. I have sold my Harley’s now and down graded to a Yamaha ‘Bolt’ cruiser. I’m really happy with my new purchase. It still gives me that ‘cruiser’ buzz, but without the exorbitant expense, without the high brow ‘bling’. Each to their own I say. Cheers.

Dude, AMEN!!! I bought a used 2016 Ultra Classic about 2 years ago that had 5 miles on it. I only bought it because it had 5 miles, it was used and I figured I couldn't get hurt for $18k. At the time, I had a 2008 Goldwing that I bought new, so the Harley was comparable. What a horrible mistake it was!! The Ultra Classic was a total piece of shit!!! The head unit on the bike (stereo) was a total piece of shit and I wound up changing it out myself with a Sony designed for Harley. Performance was HORRIBLE!! The bike accelerated so poorly on the highways around Chicago because it lacked power. I bottomed and topped out the shocks in a couple moderate pot holes and couldn't figure out why. Moving the bike backwards was a chore and the bike felt incredibly heavy for what it was. I kept the bike 9 months and sold it. I lost about $5k on it but was happy to get rid of it. I did replace it with a used 2019 Fat Boy 114 that seems to work much better for me. Took it to Sturgis with a buddy and the things I dont like about it are typical for Harley. Anyway, this is what Harley brings to the table. This is going to be my last Harley for sure.

I said this last year, and it’s even more apparent now: Harley killed off the Dyna line, only to replace it with the Sportster (in price).

Or, you could just buy a much lighter motorcycle, which is the route I went. And you retain the lean. I have ridden a recumbent (push) trike thousands of miles, and on bumpy or broken roads you get the worst of it, as you have 3 wheel tracks to thread between the potholes and bumps, not one as on a motorcycle.
You also can't corner as fast due to a higher center of gravity on most motorized trikes, as you can't lean to counter the high center of gravity. Then again, that's probably not an issue for most Hoggers :)

Although I appreciated Matt Levatich's inspiration of _More Roads_ than whatever Jochen Zeitz is doing I have no problem with what Harley is doing now.
What more do you want _tech-wise?_ What more add-ons do you want? How much faster or louder do you need a stock Harley to go? Having a beautiful, exceptionally well made cruiser means more to most people I know than ride modes, cheaper plastic and wheelies. Some folks get more out of quality and a special feeling that connects to their soul than others do. Elusive and incomprehensible to many? Yes, but that gratifying aspect exists.
More expensive? Yes, what product these days isn't? Some years Harley makes a tech jump, sometimes they don't. Chill, they are as farkle-filled as any other bike on average.
The _975_ _will_ come. The _Bronx_ will probably come. Give the Company the benefit of the doubt that they may know more about marketing than we do.

Half or more of the US, & all of Canada is essentially unrideable so people just don't buy bikes when they can't immediately ride & enjoy them for an extended period (Spring to Fall). I completely agree with everything you said here. The biggest problem with the motor industry today is that the soul has completely bleed out of it. So many of the motorcycle and car companies we love were built on the love of the vehicles they were building. The pride in the product they made was just as important as how much money they made. Over the decades that love has slowly died out. As the corporate culture of the business world grew more dominant, the driving force became money and nothing else and these days it's just become oppressive. It's not a motorcycle company anymore, it's a money making company that just happens to produce motorcycles as part of the way they make money. And it's the same everywhere. Everything is about making as much money as possible, not about making something you can be proud of.

You were on a roll. Spotted from the moon. I luv it. Thing is, unlike most young people who like the "just sprayed with rattle can black paint Low Riders," you might find out that off the trail, having people see you is actually a good thing. Though I agree the new Breakout went a little overboard with it.
You totally miss the purpose of Harleys. Mine will go 110 mph indicated by the speedo. Probably off by 5 or 10 mph. In any case, it's faster than I tend to ride it 99.99% of the time. In fact, today I was passed as I rode about 80 mph down the freeway by the loudest GSXR I've ever heard. I had to slow down to let him get ahead so my left ear would quit aching. While he's replacing his tires every 3k miles, adjusting his valves every 12k miles, replacing his broken electronic shock sensors and his turbo asteroid mode, I'll just be changing the oil and riding.
Kids are worried about having the fastest thing out. Most of them couldn't ride one out of a paper bag. But it makes them feel like masters of the universe to own a fast bike and ride it slow, I get it. When as they get older and actually want to go somewhere with someone, comfortably, they may come to appreciate the tech HD does have. The kind that makes miles easy and maintenance a 20 minute job every 5k miles.
Ya see there's something to be said for mfgs not changing parts yearly so you can tell your buddy that your new version is 0.4 grams lighter this year. Specifically, your HD will have a bunch of parts used across many model years that are available for your machine and are generally pretty cheap. And there's also a lot of dealers wherever you're at to put them on should something go wrong during your travel.
I linked an article about a guy that did 100k miles in 100 days on his HD. Try this on a high tech, high speed machine. Post your maintenance records when you're done. I could use the laugh.

I would like to see the return of the 883 Sportster with an eight valve head and tuned to meet current emission standards. Give it improved braking, suspension and cornering clearance and offer it in a basic configeration similar to the Softail Standard and I would buy one. It could be built in the Thai factory and the cost savings could be passed on (joke). There must be a bunch of tooling in one of the H-D factories so start up cost will be reduced. How hard could it be for H-D from an engineering perspective? Marketing usually takes precedence.
