I have the 1Up. I did a lot of research before purchasing mine for my fat bike. Although it is rather expensive, I wanted a rack that will last a lifetime, is easy to load and unload and is stable. 1Up checked all the boxes. USA made was a bonus. For my money, the 1Up is the most stable, easy to use high quality components, extremely well engineered, most secure bike rack available. With the opportunity to have add Ins, no need to purchase another rack again. You can even add a cargo basket as well.
Thanks for making the video. I just got the heavy-duty rack double. I like it a lot, even my wife who is not mechanically inclined was able to load and unload quickly and easily. One thing I noticed is that the rack obscures the backup sensors. I have a Subaru Forester w/ Uhaul hitch. I'm debating whether to get a 6-inch hitch riser hoping to raise the rack above the rear sensors would fix this problem. Finally, I agree with many comments here that 1Up should have included the latch kit with the rack given it's quite expensive or make it cheaper.
My non-mechnically inclined wife can also load/unload her bike when she borrows the rack. :) I don't have a problem with backup sensors on my car since it's old and doesn't have any, but my wifes car will just constantly think it's going to hit something when reversing - thankfully it's only a noise as it doesn't have any kind of automatic braking. The handle is only really annoying for 3 and 4 trays. I can barely tilt the rack loaded with bike by myself with three trays - if I carried three bikes more often I'd probably invest in the extended handle.
Got mine in the other day and set it up. I REALLY like the little ball that tightens the fit inside the hitch, since I can't stand when things wobble & rattle. However, after seeing the dinky hitch lock that comes with it, I don't get the best sense of security so I've been searching for beefier alternatives and I believe I have a simple yet effective idea.
I bought a padlock that fits through the hole. It's and ABUS Titalium but it does hang a little low so it's taken a few hits. My rack is a little loose in the tilt bar - it becomes pretty apparent when I hit a dip in the road as the rack bounce up. Bikes stay in the rack though.
Have you broken the internal rod yet? They replace them no charge, always have one on hand just in case. (You know it broke when it seems like the hitch bolt wont ever tighten). Even with that issue, it is the BEST RACK available at any price.
Oh, I’ve never heard of that issue. A friend did have his stuck after a collision ripped the majority of the rack off but that’s the opposite problem and obviously not a product failure.
It’s a sweet rack, I want one but man they pricey! I Do love the looks and functionality for sure! Killer vid and I’m #TeamTCD all the way! Congrats on 1k!
@@Tkolbo_ Thanks, Travis! Yea, they are pricey - I used a tax return one year to pay for it - and holy cow they shipped fast. I think things are different now because of covid demand.

The black is holding strong. Some of the pieces have faded a little in that they look not quite black. No chipping or missing anodization anywhere. @@TheMediocreMountainBiker thanks. Just ordered the black version (looks a lot nicer). Will probably be stored in our garage most of the time and will never go through an automatic wash.
Do you have a method of securing the bike to the rack? I know they have wheel locks but outside of that I'm interested to see how people are locking the bike to the rack if you need to run into a store or grab a drink after a ride. Thanks!
I've been eyeing the 1 up rack for a while and like most things about it but a couple days ago I saw one set up for 4 bikes at the local bike trail and all the wheel lock rods were leaning away from the car as if they bent over time. It didn't have bikes on anf the owner wasn't there so I didn't get a chance to ask about it. Did not give me a good feeling that the bikes would always be leaning. Any 1 up owners have experience with this?
I just used my new super duty 2" hitch rack. IT REALLY NEEDS A BETTER WAY TO UNLOCK AND SWIVEL. 1up wants you to spend $90 more, on top of the $665-$715, for their extremely poor implementation of a latch and positioning thereof, that allows swinging rack up and down!
Are you still liking this rack? Being that it's made in WI, it might finally be time to retire my Saris Bones rack :) Thanks for sharing, and If you have time check us out!
It is a great rack, but so expensive and soo many expensive add on parts as well. I love my Thule and it doesn't need anything extra to carry a fattie.

Has the black faded or chipped? Trying to decide between black or silver, prefer black look but don’t want it to wear out.

You mean the arms that fold down onto the wheels/tires? I don't think I've ever seen those bent.
Woah the ecohitch rusted pretty bad! How long have you had it? Any issues with it when loaded with 3 bikes?
I got it March 2016, so 5 years of Chicago winters and salt. 😕
Does that extended tiltbar handle work for every additional tray or only the 4 tray configeration?
They have versions for 2, 3, and 4 trays. I think the only part that changes is the length of the rods.

I agree. Sometimes “simple” doesn’t equal “easy to use”.
Thanks for the review! I have the same car. What was the hitch called again? And how much was that with installation? Happy trails

4-5 week shipping delay! Yikes!!

what happens if a tire or tires go flat ?
The bike will get loose, you’d just have to push the arms tighter
but the bike won't fall of the rack ?
No, the wheels would still be captured by the arms.
