    Thanks for another testing video. I'm steering clear of x4 braids, although used a lot of them for a number of years.

    I've measured roughly the same diameter(within 5%) for the 30 lbs sample in camo, blue, and multi color but those samples were from 3-4 years ago. This newer one seems to be even stronger while maintaining the same diameter.
    Forget Maxcuatro. This is your best bang for the buck. You may not rank it high overall but this line is the top 5 IMHO considering it's 7-8 cents a yard price.
    A bargain for it's exceptional tensile strength. Slow pitch crowd will love this since they can get much higher strength with a PR knot so the 66% FG knot strength will not bother them. Heck getting a 40lbs FG knot strength from a 30lbs braid is more than plenty in any scenario.
    I think you need to tweak your overall ranking since it's proven that FG knot strength decreases with heavier line while the PR knot is consistent across all line diameters. As you test heavier line in your venture, you'll either see this trend or disprove my theory.
    Good luck and keep up the great work!

      Thanks Lee - interesting comment about the FG Strength % decreasing with heavier line. I just did some data mining on this and across the 96 braids i have tested knots and max break on i am seeing a pretty decent scatter when i graph max break vs FG % on a scatter plot. If i then insert a trendline i am seeing an ever so slight decrease in FG Strength % as the line strength goes up, but its very minor. Uploaded the graph here: imgur.com/a/graph-9iqVsDj I am way more proficient in the FG than the PR so from a consistency perspective, and tying something i have a lot of practice in i will stick with the FG. As i found in my knot testing video, i believe its more important to be good at a knot and extract its maximum potential than poorly tying a "superior" knot.

      I still reference your charts all the time Lee you are a GOAT for doing all that work.
      I agree that this line is the best value especially since I have gotten 3000yd spools for between $110-125 several times. I have contacted Yo-Zuri directly several times begging them to make their x8 line available in 3000 yard spools with no luck so far…
      In practice, I will agree with the results of this test that the abrasion resistance isn’t the greatest, but rarely run into issues with that using heavier leader material in saltwater applications. Tensile strength per dollar is what keeps me buying this line 👍🏻

      @aquaholiklee 4 месяца назад +1

      @@Sir_Defyable it's nice to see the line laboratory putting the line under a microscope and validating our line diameter derivation using the line mass and known published density of spectra. His 67% FG knot strength is pretty much in line with what I've found, 65-70% depending on which 30lbs line sample I tested.

      @@aquaholiklee very curious now to have TLL test some of the 20lb YZ braid. I know the tensile strength calculation is meant to eliminate the need for testing multiple line weights but I swear it’s a different animal entirely. Based on conversations I’ve had with YZ directly and with team YZ members, it would seem that certain line diameters are manufactured with different criteria despite containing many of the same materials. Happy to send a spool over if this would fit into your testing schedule!

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  4 месяца назад +1

      @Sir_Defyable absolutely! I have seen significant differences in the same series of lines across different strengths. One would expect them to be consistent from a tensile perspective but a lot just aren't. I have also heard that the higher strength lines may use lesser quality materials in order to keep the price point the same as the lighter lines.

  • @arnestanneck6331

    In the complete table on the website it would help to better see the results for the tested diameter. I feel that the companies cheating on the line thickness is the worst problem when trying to understand quality. So maybe quoted diameter / tested diameter x max break?
    Thanks for the work!

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  4 месяца назад

      I have been working on a formula that may better illustrate the quoted diameter and breaking strain vs actuals that we test. I plan to have it as almost like an "rating accuracy" score out of 100, where 100 is exact on both parameters and the number reduces the less accurate the rating is. Still playing with the maths but it may be something we introduce.

      The issue is is that intentional....for example 15-20% pretty much seems to be the norm....I havent seen a single line hes tested that doesnt have a variation as its about how tightly the strands are woven....whereas a 50% deviation would obviously be way higher

      Your so right, we do not have access to a lot of these region specific brands, and trying to get some and then making a video on it will likely only appeal to a very small audience that have access to it. Saying that, a lot of people are really interested in how a specific line performs, and anybody is welcome to get in touch with us and send some through. We would be happy to test and report on any line, but we do need to focus on some of the more common and widely accessible ones

    I’m a bit confused, if it’s 30lb breaking strain and breaks around 40lb how can the average be 67% 🤨🤔🎣🐟

    • @IateYourChicken
      @IateYourChicken 4 месяца назад +1

      It's rated for 30lb, but its maximum break strength turned out to be close to 61lb. The average is based of the maximum break strength during testing and not the manufacture's rating.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  4 месяца назад +1

      Seems like your looking at the FG test results based on those numbers. The max break of the line was 60.6lbs, and the FG reached 67% of this number which is 40.6lbs.

    So when I tie this to my leader with a Uni knot it will break right around 30lbs.
    They just need to say KNOT STRENGTH 30lbs on the box somewhere.
    That's all I need.
    This PE rating stuff is too complicated.

      PE rating was "supposed" to be a standard that is used across the board, but just like breaking strain there seems to be a huge inconsistencies here.

      @@GunnerDunn-sy6wg also saltwater surf fishing- fishing for striper mostly in shallow areas with plenty of grass beds but not much for hard structure. I have been using 20lb for 75% of my fishing with 30lb or 40lb spooled on some reels for the occasional jetty trip or if I am going to be pulling bigger fish out of structure in heavy current.
      99% night fishing though, so my line sees very little UV exposure. Do you fish during the day or have your line seeing much sunlight? The main benefit of this line is that it is so cost-effective so maybe a mid-year re-spool would be a good idea for daytime anglers if there is a correlation there.
