When Kratos was telling the story, and saw his son fall asleep in the comfort of his presence - and how it hit him realizing how much he loved Atreus....MAN I cried.
That moment brought me to tears…to see the man who took down the entire Greek pantheon, tearing up at the sight of his own flesh and blood, his son sound asleep, goes to show you how fatherhood really changes even the most wild of men.

Even when the legend of Loki is out there making stories for himself, Kratos' Boy will always be there with him, always.
4:33:25 you can literally see the smile form on his face from hearing those words come from Atreus, the amount of pride he had in him in that moment was immense.
I love how Odin is portrayed as a sleazy megalomaniac crime boss. Such a contrast to the allfather harsh but fair benevolent warrior God that he's usually portrayed as.
The conversation with Atreus at the end pleading with Odin to stop sacrificing everything for his desire to know the truth was interesting too. It’s like Odin is this drug addict who cannot be reasoned with to stop using
Seeing Kratos step into fatherhood and really become loving toward his son is beautiful. Especially from where his story started. When Atreus hugged him after coming back that second time, he was on the verge of tears. Tears! I can’t believe his emotional development!
Indeed... i think Atreus was relieved to see his father again after being in this weird messed up family in asgard... he missed his father and was happy to see him again
he was always loving towards his son, he just did it in different ways. a fathers love is knowing how and when to make the hard choices necessary for survival. love isn't always sweet kind and fluffy
An insanely beautifully written story. Felt like I just watched a 7 hour movie. The massive amounts of character development in this story was outstanding. Seeing Kratos almost breakdown because of the prophecy that he may be worshipped and loved by people. Man…that was really moving and Sindri’s change in personality to Brok’s death honestly hurt. I’ve never felt so bad for a character like that but it shows just how much a death can change a person.
I was watching cutscenes and didn't know Brok died...but I saw a cutscene I can vaguely remember where Sindri killed tf outa someone. I think it was Odin? I was like "oh no, I bet Brok died." SAD TO SEE I WAS RIGHT
@@Nemisis2290 Yeah, to catch you up on it, Odin was disguised as Tyr the entire time and he stabbed Brok because Brok exposed him with his suspicious behavior. It was too late to save him. With that Sindri’s personality took a full 180.
Ending this story here would be more than amazing And it can just as easily continue Giants knew tyr who traveled a lot maybe Atreus stumbles upon new regions in his search for his giant brothers
@@Guac_Amole That would make for a great DLC tbh. Just to get a little more knowledge into the aspect of the giants and where Atreus stands will be really cool to witness.
From a man who lost everything who only sought rage and revenge to a man who has gained everything and is willing to see past his hate and rage this series has made a legend
You must be joking. They just took God of War and slowly turned it into bad version of Last of Us and eventually into animal crossing. I just hope some day someone will pick up where GoW 3 ended so i can forget this travesty.
A little detail I'd like to mention: During Ragnarok, when Sindri goes with Atreus, he is no longer using his dwarven magic. Before, he would use it to cross the terrains to not get filth over himself and be very cautious of his movement. But here, he doesn't give a damn anymore. It's even more heartbreaking, seeing him covered in filth during Brok's funeral. He really did lose the best part about himself.
@@luqadam408 fuck are YOU talking about? When we meet them for the first time they literally tell us that dwarven magic allows them to travel through the realm between realms
Seeing Kratos, THE kratos, almost breakdown in tears when seeing a mural of a future were he is remembered lovingly is really moving. ( edit: I know he's being worshipped, what I meant is that people are not worshipping him as the god of war)
Where he is WORSHIPPED. Being a callback to his conversation with Odin when this one asks him if someone has ever prayed to him. That hitted him right in the balls, of course he was gonna be happy, I almost cry too!
I love the way they did the Norns in this. They aren't oracles, just some people that watched a lot of stories to the point where they can predict their main plot points. They're like us! When we see a movie, we can see common tropes: The bad guy is actually the good guy, and our "ally" is actually the bad guy. The best friends in the teen rom-com turn out to be the true lovers. The hero is on the verge of defeat, but after reaching deep down inside they unlock a new power to succeed! They can see the characters of their realm, predict their stories, and (because they are so good) come to the right conclusions so often that they are deemed fate weavers. In reality, they just pay attention and pick up stuff. I also love the Norns' character establishment because it allows their "prophecies" to be wrong. Even the most astute moviegoer can't predict *every* film's plot, after all. Truly brilliant!
The gameplay, the presence of the player, his perspective on events - is the magic that holds it all together. Without it, it won't cut it. Games are simply a better piece of art, than a movie.
Man sindris arc still just makes me cry and gives me chills he’s the most caring and once brok dies you can see he literally stops caring by the broken and dirty armor he’s wearing 😭
Gut-wrenching is how I’d put it. Especially how hard it is to tell if he will still be bitter towards Kratos and Freya in the long run or if he’s just bitter for the short-term
Something I've realized about this series. At first, it was about anger, hatred, revenge. Then it became about truth, and the resolve of grief. Finally, about justice, and protecting your loved ones and the places they live in. Beautiful really.
Beautiful story fr. Been playing this game since 4th grade on my ps2 after school. So glad to see the character development and the such a great life lesson from it as well. Round of applause for all who work on this game.!
Kratos's story is the proof that there's still hope for broken men drowned in sorrow, suffocated by anger and have shut their hearts from the friends and family around them. Truly a good story 😊
I think haunted is the best way to describe him. Part of him must realise by selfishly saving brok before he has damned his soul when he died now. Although he blames them for bringing odin in his home and causing broks death I think he hates himself a hundreds of times more
The emotion Kratos felt of how unfathomable and surprising it was for him to see that for once after all this time he's loved and worshipped as a god, not as a destroyer, but a better god holding Faye's axe and not the blades of chaos was astounding and what a lot of us have been waiting for! The character development over the years was amazing. Amazing series.
@@TheSAibot_Player26 Indeed my friend, it was truly a fitting ending for the story and to me, especially for Kratos. Those who played all (if not most) of the god of wars really understand as well Kratos felt that type of future was def out of reach for him. That he was undeserving of it for all the bloodshed he's caused to gods and innocent alike, the hate in his heart, living to simply survive, and the heavy weight of regret he has had in him. But finally like he always preached to Atreus, today they are better, and he is finally worshipped and loved as a savior god, not a god killer.
I thought it would have been a slap in the face. Here he goes talking about fate not being predestined. Only to open the shrine to find out it was all fate
4:20:10 this is one of my favorite moments in the whole game. Atreus realizing his mistake and Kratos accepting he pushed his son away after trying his hardest to keep him close. The storytelling in GoW 4 and Ragnarok are amazing.
Same. I felt such a huge amount of relief in this moment. I was a bit worried Kratos would push Atreus away out of anger and their cycle of reactivity would keep repeating.
Addition: as someone who got into CONSTANT fights with my dad for years (especially about decisions he didn’t like), seeing Kratos and Atreus embrace as an apology hit me 10x harder
Are you saying you didn’t immediately know the answer when Brok asked his riddle? I’ve heard the riddle from a tv show villain so when he asked it I was like Mimir it’s a bloody hole!
@@kylemichel3006 earlier in the game when Kratos goes to forge the Droupnir spear (however you spell it) Brok teases Mimir with a riddle that mimir, despite his vast pool of knowledge hasn't heard and is somewhat stumped by: "what gets bigger when you take more away" or something like that and Mimir seems to forget about the riddle after Brok finds out about his missing soul piece. Anyways they drop it until this moment at the end where Mimir answers the riddle finally at Broks funeral and it's poetic in the sense that no matter what happens in Sindri's life, the hole that was left in his heart after Broks death will only get bigger even when he trys to take away the pain. Idk something like that
That scene of Kratos crying over his son, while telling him a bed time story just made the whole Series worth it. Jesus just seeing these expressions, being on the verge of tears is such a turn for Krators. I love how he grew as a character
Kratos: "And I thought my family was disfunctional". But seriously, the amount of build-up from the last game can't even compare to the events in this game. The developer really took our hearts out and strap them on the emotional ride.
1:37:28 Tyr lectures Atreus saying “there is always a choice!” while later at 6:37:00 Odin continually denies having a choice when Atreus confronts him about what he’s done. Like most manipulative abusers, he is a hypocrite.
Seeing Sindri refuse to clean himself at the end hit different. Subtle story telling, no one had to say it to us for us to see the damage. It's all told by a very well written and played character. Sindri not cleaning himself was one of the hardest hitting moments in any movie media I've seen I think in my entire life. It was such a potent, impactful change to his character that had been cemented and seemed as if it would pervade "no matter what," but Brok literally broke Sindri when he died. I don't see any movies pulling off storytelling like that anytime soon. So magnificent.
Balder dying changed Frigga. She had only death in her thoughts. You could see it in her appearance, and her ignoring her turtle/home. The creative team did an amazing job.
Planting these seeds in the first game, him being a germaphobe… mentioning how we ripped his brother back into existence and how he feels all the I believe demons clawing on him. I mean, from the beginning he wouldn’t even touch the axe bc it was unclean. Just absolutely the best story telling I’ve ever seen.
5:59 Not enough people are talking about Freya screaming Kratos’ name with such rage, hatred, and pain. Danielle Bisutti did a fantastic job voicing Freya
This games story mode is better than most movies in the last 20 years. Great plots, subplots are excellent , every character has some kind of significance even if we've never seen them on camera, every threading that knits the lines in the story together so well. I haven't been blessed with the experience of gameplay yet, but I will soon. This story is amazing !
I love how Kratos is so fearless, he has fought collosal beasts and killed docens of gods, but is so vulnerable and scared when it comes to Atreus and he breaks down when he remembers Faye. His biggest fear is losing his family once again, and he is capable of doing everything in his power to protect his son, literally everything I just love how human he feels in this game
Kratos finally being seen as something more than a destroyer is heart warming. He knows how corrupt and self-proclaimed many other gods are. This is the journey he took, to redeem those who have suffered at their hands. And finally seeing how people view him now I'm sure puts his sacrifices and hardships into perspective. Loved watching this.
It's incredible how the series evolved and matured so much. Started as a beat em all full of puzzles, and now it's a philosophical family story revisit of nordic mythology... where you beat them all, of course.
This is Oscar winning story telling, my god if you’d told me that the most beautiful story told in the last 50 years was a game play through id have laughed at you, but here we are. This game put all of modern Hollywood to shame

but is that why though? in their final fight, thor said something along the lines "im alowed to kill you this time". this time. meaning he wasnt allowed to the first time. he didnt save kratos out of fun, but fear. fear of odins wrath. first time he was just seperating father and son, letting odin chat to atraeus. then leaving. the second time... he was going for the kill.
@@looseyourzlf I know Kratos likely wasn't dead. Doesn't change the impact of the scene. More importantly why do feel like you have to ruin other people's fun?
@@HumourusLAV true but it could have easily been a Freya and Baldur situation in terms of resentment. But luckily Brok forgave him and even he told Sindri he has to let go. I just hate how Sindri is being resentful to Kratos and Atreus when he literally was helping to find Tyr, they all were fooled and if it weren’t for Brok suspecting something Odin may have succeeded in his deception and there would have been even greater losses in the end.
@@TheGabeOfGabes The thing is, it was ALL of them who got fooled, but the only one suffer the loss, at that point, was him. So there is no way for him to not feel any resentment toward Loki specifically.

This game is a masterpiece on a lot of aspects, even the music is surprisingly amazing and deeper than what you would expect at first from a god of war game
My man truly taught us all an inspiring life lesson. The phrase “it’s just a game” is nothing but empty words compared to this fantastic character we’ve all grown to love. No one, not even Kratos can hold onto rage, anger, and hate; I hope this teaches all of us to show love and understanding to those we’ve grown to hate. I truly hope everyone has a beautiful night or day. God bless you all!!
they pretty much developed ending based on scratched ending idea of god of war 3 where Kratos would meet his other copies from egypt and nordic mythologies and beat rest of the gods and form trio of unity (the father ,the son and holy spirit) and start the new era of one god religion ,so yeah Kratos would be at the end worshipped.

I have no faith in modern Hollywood for that. Chances are good they’d kill off Kratos and Atreus in the first movie and replace them with Freya(now black/wielding all of Kratos’s weapons yes even his Blades of Chaos) and Angrboda(now the TRUE CHAMPION OF THE JOTNAR).

It’s crazy how we’ve gotten to the point where video games are better movies with better stories and characters than actual movies And this game is still a masterpiece in 2024
I disagree to an extent. We dissect movies like crazy. I don't think we are nearly as critical of games. I thought the previous GOW was amazing. I found this one to be a significant step down. It has good moments, but I found the whole "Be Better" conclusion to feel preachy and rushed. Not to mention it was being passed along by a kid who spent pretty much the whole game desperate to start Ragnarok, rush into war, and had at no point spent time thinking about the overall impact war can have on others. All the while Kratos was telling him about the negative aspects of war, yet Kratos was the one being told to "Be Better" by Atreus of all people.
@@travisgowen5044 lmao you just put a well thought out statement and others are basically saying "no you're dumb", just further proves your point about video game narrative criticism
@@Telamonian unlike most gods, he wasn’t born one, he was a demi-god who lived and struggled as a human before becoming a god. The rich do not understand the poor, the poor do not understand the rich. Their lives and logics are so different that both wonder: “how can someone live like that?” A god who is born immortal and innately strong, with their role in the world already secured, will never understand insecurity, the fear of death and the emptiness of not having a home or purpose. As such, it would be rare for them to understand and accept things like humility, gratitude and kindness. Adversely, an average man is born weak and mortal, never understanding, but dreaming of strength and eternal life, giving birth to greed, envy, wrath and lust. But it also puts things into perspective, the mortal man comprehends kindness and understanding because they have suffered and learned as only humans can, related their experiences to others, as only humans can. As a human, he struggled, made mistakes and sought to atone for them, thereby learning from them, as new god, he was drunk on power and authority, so his betrayal was something he didn’t see coming, as the slayer of gods, he learned rage and intolerance. As the father of Atreus, he remembered kindness and patience, understanding and love. Sorry to have rambled on for so long, but in my opinion, thats why Kratos can act so human, even when he’s not.
6:53:40 is absolutely amazing. Such an emotionally brilliant moment. Kratos, former god of war, slayer of pantheons, showing his son that he loves him. Nervous, scared, and not knowing what to expect, he places his trust and care with his boy, and finally shows him all the love he's wanted to since we started this journey. Absolutely amazing.
As someone who sadly doesn't have the time anymore to play games of this calibre - I want to thank you endlessly for stitching this narrative together in a format that's easy to take in. Although playing a game is a different experience, I was still able to emulate that feeling through watching this, and felt just as empowered despite not being the one with the controller in hand. This is a story that is impossible to forget - something truly timeless and so rare. "Loki goes.. Atreus remains"
The absolute chills I got from Brok blessing the spear 3:50:15 "May this weapon strike true. May it be wielded with wisdom. May it be put down when its job is done."
Up untill *that moment* he always seemed so scrawny and acting a little cowardly, hiding from kratos and being scared all the time. Yet he took some extra steps to help Atreus and talking with him. In the end, he got the short end of the stick and although most people are happy with Odin gone and can live happily ever after, i feel that Sindri will never forgive Kratos for dragging them into their trouble. They better make another game and make Sindri happy.
I wish there was the option to let sindri know that even if he hated them, they still consider him family, that when he is done grieving, there is still a home he can return to.
Sindri has always had a weak mind. And seeing his brothers death was too much for his mind to handle, so he broke. No sympathy for that. He will mourn but he will have no sympathy.
6:58:34 such a beautiful ending to a story, an ending i didn’t imagine but it was such a heartwarming thought to see kratos finally happy with his life
As someone who doesnt have a father anymore the moments with Atreus and Kratos when they reunited and also when they went their separate ways at the end really hit me in my feelings.
The part at around 3:50:00 where Kratos just walks into the room. The sound effects, the animation, the music was brilliant. I could feel the tiredness Kratos must feel, the years dawning of him. Looking at the chains, at his past, the ashes of his first wife and daughter staining his skin. And then the pouch bringing him back to now, to Faye and Atreus. It really is emotional and I’m glad these kind of games are showing this to a widely male demographic. Seeing Kratos’ lip quivering, ready to cry. It’s important to see
The last scene was the most emotional of all literally after so many decades of war and killing finally Kratos can burn his past and move forward as a God whom everyone will no more hate and fear him but they’ll worship him …. In all those moments Kratos is all alone right before he's about to sleep, that time that he spends with himself , sitting thinking , remembering his past and trying to hold on to the last living being he cares about, man there's so much of emotion in it.

What I love about Kratos so much is just how human he is with such little dialogue. I can't really explain it in other words. Terrific writing.
Perhaps he isn’t really a human anymore but he still understands the human condition better than most gods
@@Telamonian unlike most gods, he wasn’t born one, he was a demi-god who lived and struggled as a human before becoming a god.
The rich do not understand the poor, the poor do not understand the rich.
Their lives and logics are so different that both wonder: “how can someone live like that?”
A god who is born immortal and innately strong, with their role in the world already secured, will never understand insecurity, the fear of death and the emptiness of not having a home or purpose.

I wish there was the option to let sindri know that even if he hated them, they still consider him family, that when he is done grieving, there is still a home he can return to.
@@cyberwolfy37 there's always room for redemption
Sindri has always had a weak mind. And seeing his brothers death was too much for his mind to handle, so he broke. No sympathy for that. He will mourn but he will have no sympathy.
Fenrir getting his big boi body makes me so happy
6:58:34 such a beautiful ending to a story, an ending i didn’t imagine but it was such a heartwarming thought to see kratos finally happy with his life
As someone who doesnt have a father anymore the moments with Atreus and Kratos when they reunited and also when they went their separate ways at the end really hit me in my feelings.
Same
Bruh imagine having a heartless father and know that it'll be impossible to have something like this in lifetime
For me it sucks because it was hardcore betrayal. I wish I had a father that was like this to me tho but, life is life 11:41
A brutal gut punch and beautifully poignant moment all wrapped into one
@@ErnolDawnbringer After seeing what children become these days, It's understandable why fathers leave and mothers stay.
It’s important to see
It’s actually around 3:55:30 but yeah, this scene was perfectly executed with no words needed to show his exhaustion and pain of pushing his son away
I have not seen such Life like 🙏 acting by some computer generated characters. Everything is carefully and perfectly enacted by developers.
The last scene was the most emotional of all literally after so many decades of war and killing finally Kratos can burn his past and move forward as a God whom everyone will no more hate and fear him but they’ll worship him …. This game symbolises the relationship between a true father and a son much love to this game….

@@marley3903 Kratos is shredded tho
@@marley3903 some of us need assistance and everyone else helping others becoming better... the first and last step is all of us being better as we can be.
And to be better doesn't mean one must look dashing or smashing or ripped or shredded or anything... being is that of acting toward others... particularly those who have authority or power over others.
Too bad that being better goes on deaf ears among those in power today. Instead they're to busy glorifying their own stink. Because we give the filthy the Odins of our world far too much power just as in this story.

Also. I am so upset for how Sindris ending was. It's really well done, but it also really hurts.
The best quote is at 6:32:21. The way Mimir says the line and Odin's respond is just perfect.
and he tried to deny it saying it is for Brok 😂😂
the way he said that line made me realize he's the same voice actor for Senator Armstrong
"Don't forget me, All-F**ker"

What time is it for the scene?
This wayyy better than soo many movies being made nowadays

Exactly the same thing Kratos said in the previous game)
Yes, thats why this video is great. I miss things in the excitment of playing.
God of war went from brutal and exciting to deep and meaningful
Just came here to say that this story was so touching and a great end to a long awaited journey. This last ride with Kratos will never be forgotten.
To grieve deeply, is to have loved fully. That's probably the hardest line in the game, and had me bawling like a baby.
Same. This line alone made me realize why I felt so bad for years and just for that, this game may be one of the best games ever made (imo)
Had me crying like a baby. It brought closure for so many personal experiences.

That hug between Atreus and Kratos seriously had me in tears. Reminded of the last time I hugged my father before he passed two weeks later at the beginning of the pandemic
I lost my father almost 5 years ago, the communication between us was like Kratos and Atreus, him being the silent one and me being an extroverted kid (mom’s fault) so I cried rivers when I played both games for the first time, I miss my father so much. Sorry about your loss.

In all those moments Kratos is all alone right before he's about to sleep, that time that he spends with himself , sitting thinking , remembering his past and trying to hold on to the last living being he cares about, man there's so much of emotion in it. I like how the story used to revolve around The Ghost of Sparta has slowly turned into such a beautiful masterpiece, Those who have been sticking around since GOW 1 came know what I'm talking about. Loved this masterpiece , Long Live Kratos !
