Its really nice detail vedio the only issue is one can hardly see what you are typing and the the softwares needs 7-8 times you mentioned its difficult to see at all even on big screen ....also can this be done on windows machine or you need Linux bases system only?

Excellent video! Now I have a Fire HD 8 (2018) here with the OS version already at 7.1.3.7. From the little I found at XDA developers I fear the unlock & flash TWRP step doesn't work with it anymore. Is there any more information about this anywhere?
Pardon if you've already figured it out, but you can try backing up all the files you want to keep and setting the Fire back to factory. Mine only came with 6.3.1.0.

As soon as the OS has been updated to a higher version, a factory reset only resets that new OS version to what it would have been on a brand new device. (From what I've read on XDA Developers, I have to live with the fact that as of now there's no way to unlock the bootloader anymore as soon as a device has OS version 7...)

Is Linux really required for this? If so, will a virtual machine (via VirtualBox) be sufficient to achieve the same results? I don't want to mess up my SSD just for this and go back to Windows afterwards.
You could just run Linux live off of a USB (that does not erase any data off you ssd) if you don't want to go through all of the virtual machine stuff...it would be a lot easier :)
Thank you for the video. It is really informative! Also, don't use any suction tool for separating the device from the backcover. Certain RUclipsr did that and cracked his touchscreen :P
That's really cool although not as easy (not hard either, but needs to open the tablet) as the Fire Toolbox method which I've come to really like a lot.
@Have a Nice Day the 11th gen, as for now anyway is pretty locked down with no known way of rooting. Amazing have gone to great lengths to enforce their OS and horrific app store. Huawei app gallery has only been around a couple years and already exceed the Amazon App store 🙄

Arg, help. So went through the instructions. Having run bootrom-step.sh, the message at the end is "Reboot" as opposed to "Reboot to unlocked fastboot." That said, ran the fastboot-step.sh, and seemed to go fine. Booted into TWRP, adb pushed the three files, but when I tried installing 6300.zip, got an error message "failed to mount '/vendor' (No such device)" and it failed. Tried mounting it manually within TWRP under the mount button, but tapping vendor doesn't let me select it.

We don't have a way to test that device. There might be a tutorial for that somewhere but I wouldn't be comfortable suggesting this for any other device due to the shorting step
it is *really* hard to know what "this" is as you point to literally the smallest possible text you could have recorded. increase your font size before you record! I am watching this at 1080p and am *still* having to get really close to the screen to even slightly make out the names of the file you are referring to when you say "this file"
great question but unfortunately we dont know. This was done right before the new editions came out so Wendy didnt have a chance to try it on the new versions. I would say check out the XDA forums to see if anyone has upgraded that stuff. The links are in the description.
I just bought a 2020 version a few weeks ago as well. I opened it up to see if I could do this, and found that on the new version they changed the hardware layout. If the CLK pin still even exists, it's hidden elsewhere now. I've been trying to hunt down a layout map of the motherboard to see where the CLK pin might be moved to, if I'm going to have to unsolder any plate to get access to it, or if it's just on the backside of the board now. If you find out anything please let me know!
For the moment since I can't get root (not even temporarily using mtk-su), and I can't use the exploit from this video to get access to the boot loader to install a new OS, I've just been modifying the current OS as best I can. I installed f-droid directly from the internet, and then from that app manager I installed aurora (an app which accesses the google app store without having to log into google). You can use aurora to get a new launcher (I just went with bliss because I am already familiar with it from using /e/ foundation - I'm sure there are better ones out there). With the new launcher, at least you won't be constantly bombarded by ads when you're just trying to open an app. Oh, and also install adaway from f-droid!! I used adb shell, and then from the device I used the package manager function to disable amazon spyware. From the adb shell, type 'pm listpackages' to find out what packages are currently installed. You can also type 'logcat' to monitor all the operations happening on your tablet, and then from the tablet you can click on an app to see it load up and find out the name (some of them are not intuitively named, like com.amazon.tahoe is the 'free time' app). Then use 'pm disable-user ' for whatever package you want to remove (I took everything off except video, for example, because that's the only one I will actually want to use). The bloat-ware is still installed, so it still takes up space on the device, but at least it's disabled... Hope this helps! And I hope that as a community we can eventually figure out how to crack this new beast!!

I never had the warm light on my old kindle, but i do not use it on the ipad so I will probably not need it. I think the only thing I'll miss is the self-adjusting light, but this is so worth it!
@@swordcube It is based on Android but that does not mean it IS android. There are key differences that make it not Android as you can use it without any Google apps or the Play Store. If you were to use Android you don't have that option. Lineage takes the stripped down skeleton of Android and builds it up with more ethical value. I don't think it is accurate to say "Lineage IS Android" but rather "Lineage is Based on Android" or even "Lineage is compatible with Android". That works too.

You don't have to crack open the 2018 version, if you didn't update the OS. The firmware should be lower than 6.3.1.2 if it's new.

Yeah...a virtual machine should work for it...but you will have to enable USB support so the virtual machine can recognize the tablet.

Yes it is a process of rooting the device and a workaround to unlock the bootloader making it easier to install custom software.

Where TWRP installed I would assume that the first two files went as planned. If you reboot recover does it have the system mounted?

Why cant this be like the Nexus and Google devices, fastboot oem unlock and flash twrp, done.
Amazon does not want anyone putting their own software on.
