I put the gas adjust on my 2005 Ram truck. The difference was night and day. It rides great now. Dodge trucks are heavy in the front. These shocks are great. And the price was n’t bad either. I will always buy KYB shocks from here on out.
I agree I just put a set on the front of my 03 ram 2500 Cummins what a huge difference, especially on the Pennsylvania roads I’m gonna throw another set in the rear
Got a full set of the Gas A Just struts and shocks on my P71 Crown Vic project car a few months ago. The difference in handling was huge. Braking and acceleration were improved and overall responsiveness is impressive. Car felt like it lost 500lbs. Highly recommended! Just wish you could get a fully assembled strut instead of transferring or compressing new springs.
Yeah I put them on my 05 grand Marquis. Way better ride. I recently replaced the coils with a performance upgrade for the 04 marauder. And cut one full coil off the lowered it 2”.
I use KYB Gas A-just shocks for my old Nissan Frontier Trucks and my old Ford F-150 accompanied and supported with Sumo Springs (Airless Maintenance Free suspension bag) I use them for my Trucks that work so hard and carry lots of weights everyday.
I’ve got the Sumo springs on my Tacoma 4x4 also. And I love them. When I hook a heavy trailer to it,it don’t sag way down in the rear now, plus my payload has increased. I’ve loaded it down with concrete and asphalt and it don’t look like a low rider in the rear now. It rides a little more rough in the rear and is a little stiff but I don’t mind
This is an excellent video. I have been considering the KYB shocks for awhile now. After hearing you explain the difference of the shocks, I have decided which ones suit my needs best. I'll be purchasing a set of 4 after this post. Thanks 😊
That’s hilarious, I found this video while researching which struts to install in my 2004 Thunderbird and on the back wall is a picture of a black Thunderbird of about the same year. No one anywhere has a picture of a 2002-2004 Thunderbird on their wall. It’s a sign!
Great Video, I have a 2019 Ford F350 Crew Cab, Diesel, SRW short bed. Now I pull our camper 5-6 times a year and the factory shocks on the truck work just fine, great ride. Would you recommend the Excel G or the MonoMax? The 5th wheel is 15000 lbs loaded. I still had no issues towing it.
We have recommended factory replacements and monotube upgrades for that model. If you like the way it performed from the factory, then our OE replacements might be what you're looking for. However, we'd recommend plugging your information into our online catalog at kyb.com/catalog because we make many parts for that platform and the various trim levels within it. I put a set of the gas-a-just on my 01 Grand Cherokee w/4" lift and 31" tires. They are about 3 years old and ride exactly like they did the day i put them on (approx. 45k miles). They ride much MUCH firmer than stock. Especially in the rear. The Jeep is my work vehicle, i do remote welding on farm equipment and pull a trailer with my welder and tools so the stiff rear is great for me. I like the sportier ride, personally and they noticeably reduce body roll in corners. On little bumps/wash boards they are harsh at low speed. However, the faster you go, the better they get!
In the process of turning my Prius into an Overlanding rig and will carry heavier loads with a cargo box and roof mount, Which would be the best In this case?
Thanks much for the explanation. I mistakenly put on heavier rims and I feel it immediately, the oil kyb shocks I noticed can't handle the weight so now I know to buy the gas shocks
I always buy the Exel-G struts to rebuild their coilovers for my customers vehicles. And never had any complaints. I recently purchased an RX-8 to flip. It had the suspension upgraded to the Gas-A-Just struts, and wow it's f'n stiff lol. Feels like its dialed in for track. Crazy how different the shocks are compared to OE replacement shocks Exel-g's are to the Gas-A-Just.

@@craftman5632 I guess they dmt make the gas adjust for my Honda Pilot. Went on the website they recommend a basic shock for my vehicle. I would like the gas adjust but might not be available.
What is best choice for dirt roads, including mountain trails?... Now have larger-than-OEM tires. Went from 235/75R15 to 31x10.5R15. No towing. Tried Excel-G, but they wore out too quickly. Tried Monomax, but only felt good for 1 month. After that, compression phase too stiff and extension phase too weak.

Of course they are ... I purchased kyb gas a just for my rear and momomax for the front on my old school Ford f150 ... The gas a just cause I don't really haul heavy loads like that rarely .. and I don't plan to abuse my truck like that either
If i put the monomax on my 2005 toyota camry, would that be okay even if i dont tow or haul a ton of weight? I just want new ones and the smoothest ride possible, as long as it wouldnt hurt the rest of the vehicle?
MonoMax is for trucks only, so you won't be able to find any for your Camry. We have Strut-Plus complete assemblies that will help restore your vehicle's ride to how smooth it was when it was new. They offer a new mount and spring along with a new OE replacement strut, you'll definitely feel a difference and bring some handling and control back to your car.

Getting ready to do a suspension replacement on my 2008 Nissan Pathfinder. Looking at the Excel g quick strut for the front and was debating between the Excel g versus the gas adjust for the rear. Is the gas adjust a stiffer ride compared to the Excel g? I do anticipate the occasional towing (about 3,500 lb trailer) but this vehicle is much more frequently used as a daily driver so ride quality is my priority.
Some vehicles come OE equipped with monotubes, and our Gas-a-just is an OE replacement in those cases. We generally recommend monotubes for vehicles doing some towing, and Gas-a-just is designed to be a performance on demand damper in tougher situations like that. It looks like you’ve done some research, but we have some resources to assist you with your decision. @@kybamericascorp yeah. The Excel G shows as the recommended for OE ride quality and the gas-a-just as an upgrade. The Gas-a-just advertises a 25% increase in dampening. Does that mean it should have a smoother ride or stiffer ride versus the Excel G?

Nice video. I’m thinking of getting shocks for my vehicle but some say ( Self Leveling ) and the KYB I was looking at says ( Except Self Leveling ). Could you explain what these terms mean.
That means our coverage is not for that suspension package. We fit check & test our products on vehicles and they are calibrated to perform with certain amounts of weight & other vehicle characteristics. If your vehicle comes with self-leveling suspension and we list that our part is not recommended for that trim, then that means we don’t offer coverage for your specific vehicle. We recommend the OE replacement for the self-leveling suspension, even when we don’t offer coverage for it.

Mixing dampers is an option, but it's not always recommended and depends on a few factors. In your case, I checked our catalog and don't see that we offer Gas-a-just for your vehicle. If you have follow up questions, our Tech Support team can assist you. Please email techsupport@kyb.com
It ultimately depends on your trim level, but we offer OE replacement Excel-G bare struts & Strut-Plus along with the higher damping spec. performance upgrade Excel-G & Strut-Plus from the sportier models. We're OE on many Toyota vehicles and if you liked the way it handled before the shocks were worn, you'll likely be very happy with our aftermarket products. If you are in the US, please check our online catalog at www.kyb.com/catalog where you can search by year, make, and model. If you are not in the US, please find the KYB company local to your region. Also, shocks control the springs, which control the body movement that you feel in the vehicle. A simple shock replacement may need other components added as well to achieve better stability and control. A KYB Strut-Plus complete assembly comes with an OE replacement strut that's been calibrated to work well with other worn suspension components around it, an OE matching spring that is corner specific, and a new OE mount to help restore your Corolla's handling to like new. Starting with a quality shock or strut like KYB would be a good move to handling changes in road conditions, like potholes as you mentioned.

What is meant by performance ride. I live on really rough roads and do some work out of my first gen pilot. The ride I’m looking for is the softest or most absorbent.
We'd recommend checking our catalog to see what we offer for your vehicle and trim level before deciding on which part you're interested in: www.kyb.com/catalog/ The ride you say you’re looking for would be our OE replacement parts, Excel-G and Strut-Plus. Performance upgrades offer more control, quicker steering and better handling.
I recently bought a 2001 Buick Park Avenue Ultra 90k miles, but I found that it tends to continue bouncing after it encounters an uneven roadway. This continued bouncing is documented in a few magazine articles that reviewed these cars when new, so I don't believe it was caused by wear. I really dislike the bouncing and I was considering a Monroe OESpectrum strut for replacement, but I'm also interested in KYB Gas-a-just if these are available for my car. I assume the Excel-G is going to be bouncier than a Monroe OESprectrum. Is there a KYB Gas-a-just strut that would be compatible with my car? Is there an old part number that I should consider hunting/tracking down from various vendors that may have old inventory?
We'd advise starting with checking our online catalog at www.kyb.com/catalog/ to see if we have coverage for your specific vehicle. I don't know what year your vehicle is, what trim level you have and if we offer products for it. I live in eastern Canada so there isn't 1 road without a damn pot hole and I found the Mon max did ride more stiff but it still soaked up the bumps pretty good. But the bilsteins are nice too but more expensive and I think you'd get that smooth ride you're looking for as the mono max too me is more of a rugged off road work truck shock.
An expert should probably answer this in something other than a RUclips comment section, but the short answer is that it has to do with geometry and the performance of a shock due to the angle and position they’re mounted in. Please remember that a commuter car, a sports car, a fleet work truck and a purpose built rock crawler all have different reasons for where their shocks are mounted, plus what type of shock and spring they use. 2012 Chrysler Town and Country. I am thinking of going with 349143 Excel G however during the winter (4 months) I put on 25% heavier tires. Is it worth it to go with the 554379 Gas-A-Just or is that overkill for heavier tires that are only on for 4 months of the year?
The answer, as the video explains, is that it comes down to how you use your vehicle. If you tend to drive that specific vehicle with a full load of passengers and cargo throughout the year, then the Gas-a-just is worth the upgrade. Otherwise, choosing Excel-G is probably the right choice. Adding heavier tires usually warrants going to a monotube, but if they're not even on for half the year, it'll probably be too much damping the rest of the year. Our customer support and tech support departments can help you if you have further questions: kybcs@kyb.com
Higher than OE or higher than it was? Worn components lead to sagging over time, and generally, springs set the ride height, not shocks. Please contact our customer or tech support teams if you have a question about your vehicle.
Got a stupid question, when you say “restore original ride quality”, so there are essentially many kinds of Excel-G? Like obviously the factory 4Runner shock is diffeeent than the factory F150 etc. so how can one KYB restore just any factory ride??
Excel-G is the name of our twin-tube shock and strut product line that's focused on being the OE replacement for twin-tube applications. We have many different part numbers in that product line. To your point, one shock would not be the correct choice for vehicles that are as different as your 2 examples. In fact, we often manufacture different parts for various trim levels due to the weight and demands of 1 vehicle application, like an F-150. Check out www.kyb.com to learn more and see our online catalog.
We'd recommend finding out what products we make for your vehicle by visiting our online catalog at www.kyb.com/catalog. Once you establish what part numbers you're looking for, you can then click the, "Where to Buy" link. Our Recommended OEM Replacement Excel-G and Strut-Plus products will closely match the original units. We advise getting new springs and mounts, which our Strut-Plus complete assemblies come with, to ensure the ride and handling is consistent.
There are a few factors to consider to answer your question. First few factors, what’s the wear on the vehicle? Is it high mileage, driven hard, does it have a floating ride or is it noticeably sagging with ride height issues? Is the paint on the spring cracking, is there rust? Those could indicate spring wear and we would recommend replacement. Second, who would be installing the new parts and where? If it’s a professional mechanic that has access to a spring compressor and the tools often used with a replacement, then either can work. If it’s not a professional doing the replacement, the Strut-Plus is already assembled with the appropriate spring and mount ready to go out of the box. Spring compression can be very dangerous and is not recommended for someone who doesn’t have access to the proper tools and safety equipment. Plus, replacing all those components at once makes a large difference in the control and handling of the vehicle. TL,DR: Strut-Plus is a quick and correct replacement for the strut, spring and mount that has been fit checked and road tested by KYB. It’s recommended for worn components and is a much simpler install than a new bare strut that would be reusing the old spring. We recommend replacing the strut mounts with new struts anyways as the rubber in the worn mount is usually pretty beat up and can lead to rattling noises and potential fitment issues.
@@kybamericascorp Thank you for your prompt reply. My car has 154,000 miles on it and it shakes when going over uneven road and potholes. Struts have never been replaced. It also does feel a bit floaty in the frontend at highway speeds. I just inspected the coil springs and there was no sign of rust or damage and the paint is intact. The install will be done by a professional mechanic. I don't mind spending a little more and buying Strut-Plus; however, I am just worried that the ride may become stiff and not as enjoyable.
Is it possible for shocks and struts to get too stiff with age (usually it's the opposite, they get too soft with age)? I had KYB Excels on my Maxima for a few years and i was very pleased with them. I know they are a little bit firmer/sportier than competition and this is one of the reasons i chose them but now, after a few years, they are hard as a rock. The ride is jarring, i'm bouncing all over the road. I also tried pushing down on all 4 corners of the car and i can't get it to move at all (the car is stock). Does this mean it's time to replace them and is this considered regular wear and tear or is it covered by your Limited Lifetime Warranty? Thank You!
Thanks for also reaching out to our tech support team with this question. They will be able to work with you to help figure out the problem and solution. We generally don't see worn shocks and struts getting too stiff, that's for sure!
@@Mickey_Bauer Idk if you got the problem solved yet, but yes, shocks and struts can get "stuck" to the point where it becomes very hard for them to compress or rebound, which would cause a harsher ride then when they were new. You would be able to tell if they were stuck by taking them out of the car and fully compressing the shock and see how long it takes for the shaft to rebound, if at all. A good quality shock/strut will normally compress fairly easy and rebound relatively quick. If it has lots of resistance, or doesn't compress/rebound at all, it's stuck, and in need of replacement.
@@noahbolt thank you, it hasn't been fixed yet. @@Mickey_Bauer I’d would check with them but I’m almost certain that’s under wear and tear and you may be looking at buying a new set. I think the warranty is just for defective parts.

I need a good set of front struts for my 05 caravan. The reviews of other mfg's shocks are that they are to soft and sag after several months. I hope KYB's are better.
The industry went away from a standard number years ago, there were too many variables to account for: Things like road types, vehicle usage, quality of components, climate, etc. all factor into a shock/ strut's wear. A good shop can give your vehicle a road test and determine how worn shocks & struts are on a vehicle. If your vehicle takes more time and space to stop, has too much body roll or other noticeable signs of worn suspension, it's time to look into a road test to replace shocks & struts.
That's partially true. The goal of the Excel-G is to help restore the control and handling to what the vehicle manufacturer intended. To achieve that, we often calibrate the damping to compensate for age, suspension component wear and coil spring fatigue.

The KYBs were going to ship from separate warehouses which doubled the shipping cost. I went with Rancho.
You should easily be able to get 50,000 miles without noticing any performance fade with any of our shocks/ struts/ complete assemblies. Our parts are made with the highest quality components and expertly engineered for specific vehicles and trim levels. We also offer several product lines for different vehicles, so there are plenty of factors to consider for such a broad question. There are external factors that can influence longevity, including what vehicle they’re installed on, how you drive, where you drive, and how often they’re used. The answer for how long our shocks and struts last changes if we’re talking about a grocery getter that sees minimal use in town versus a full size truck towing a heavy trailer over rocky terrain every other day. KYB shocks and struts are among the longest lasting and best performing in the industry, so they’re a great investment for any driver that values safety and performance.
This video offers some great tips and we have more helpful information on our website, including a catalog that can filter by vehicle: www.kyb.com/catalog
I have a van and looking at getting some performance shocks. I want to stiffen up the handling as it seems to dive in on corners a lot. I am definitely more performance and handling orientated and do not carry any heavy loads. The van is a torsion bar front. So no coil spring. Should I choose the mono max? As it is more for performance? Or is that only performance for SUV and towing or carrying loads?

Short to the point. Best KBY explanation video ever. Thanks.
KBY gets it
Kyb
It's the only brand I use on my vehicles , simply the best, ASE Certified Tech here, and have been working on cars since the 80's
I put the gas adjust on my 2005 Ram truck. The difference was night and day. It rides great now. Dodge trucks are heavy in the front. These shocks are great. And the price was n’t bad either. I will always buy KYB shocks from here on out.
I agree I just put a set on the front of my 03 ram 2500 Cummins what a huge difference, especially on the Pennsylvania roads I’m gonna throw another set in the rear
one of the best bang for buck! I hope kyb does more underchassis parts like ball joints and bushings!
Boom! I now know which one I need for my slightly upgraded Samurai! Thanks for the simple and to the point video
So, which did you choose? And how does it ride??
I'm looking to upgrade my Zuki also. 🎉

This video is really well done. Makes me wish most explanation videos are like it.
Going to put KYB front strut assemblies on my truck and the gas a just rear shocks
Feel free to reach out to our tech. dept. if you have follow up questions by emailing techsupport@kyb.com.
Me sirvió la explicación, ahora comprare los KYB gas a just para mi Hyundai galloper
good thing i bought an excel-g for my mid-sized SUV. gas-a-just for my small, nimble crossover.
I just bought the gas a just front and rear fir my 2003 montero still need to install them but I can't wait
In the process of turning my Prius into an Overlanding rig and will carry heavier loads with a cargo box and roof mount,
Which would be the best In this case?

Installed the KYB Monomax on my Ram 2500 4x4, Much Better Response an Control! No more body roll" By Far Best Shocks I Ever had! Handles weight Really Well on my Truck" 💪

I bought some Excel on my minivan today they are as good as advertise

Some vehicles come OE equipped with monotubes, and our Gas-a-just is an OE replacement in those cases. We generally recommend monotubes for vehicles doing some towing, and Gas-a-just is designed to be a performance on demand damper in tougher situations like that.

That means our coverage is not for that suspension package. Always wondered what the differece is between mounting shocks in front of the rear axle or on the back of the rear axle?
An expert should probably answer this in something other than a RUclips comment section, but the short answer is that it has to do with geometry and the performance of a shock due to the angle and position they’re mounted in.
Please remember that a commuter car, a sports car, a fleet work truck and a purpose built rock crawler all have different reasons for where their shocks are mounted, plus what type of shock and spring they use. Hope that helps!

For 2003 Honda Accord EX 4 cylinder, do you recommend the Excel-G or the Strut-Plus? How do I know if I can still use the old coil or not?

Good question I have a Camry I'm curious as to excel g myself

@@kybamericascorp they already replied, thank you!
I just loosened all the suspension bolts, front and rear and retightened everything again with factory torque specks like i always do but this time i jacked up the suspension to simulate it being under load before tightening. No difference.
I'll probably have to get new struts and shocks but i was wondering if this would be covered under warranty or if it's considered regular wear and tear. They do come with Lifetime Warranty.
@@Mickey_Bauer I’d would check with them but I’m almost certain that’s under wear and tear and you may be looking at buying a new set. I think the warranty is just for defective parts.

What is the difference between strut a plus and truck a plus ,preassembled struts from KYB.
The short answer is the Strut-Plus is a direct replacement for what originally came on the vehicle and the Truck-Plus is more: Truck-Plus Performance has more damping and Truck-Plus Leveling adds a leveling kit as part of the assembly.
I just converted a 2000 Chevy Astro AWD cargo van into a camper. It's got 142K on it and I'm going with the monomax.
Am getting a pair of front Excel G gas struts for my 09 Mazda Tribute a.k.a Ford Escape. Any idea how long these struts last (miles/years) for city/highway driving? I heard certain brands start failing within a year. That would be terrible because I don't think strut replacement should be an yearly thing.
Thanks for choosing KYB, we don’t think it should be a yearly thing either!
All shocks and struts will eventually wear out, but we’re confident these will help keep your vehicle performing as designed for years to come. We think you’ll be very happy with these KYB parts on that Tribute!

Most cars don't need monotubes. It's largely for trucks, sports cars, and some SUVs that require extra damping.

I need a good set of front struts for my 05 caravan. The reviews of other mfg's shocks are that they are to soft and sag after several months. I hope KYB's are better.
What is the lifespan of most struts shocks for a commuter car no towing off-road anything like this?
The industry went away from a standard number years ago, there were too many variables to account for: Things like road types, vehicle usage, quality of components, climate, etc. all factor into a shock/ strut's wear.
A good shop can give your vehicle a road test and determine how worn shocks & struts are on a vehicle. If your vehicle takes more time and space to stop, has too much body roll or other noticeable signs of worn suspension, it's time to look into a road test to replace shocks & struts.

Hey there Thank you for your response! I can understand this
I heard excel G are firmer than original to make up for the older springs. True?
That's partially true. The goal of the Excel-G is to help restore the control and handling to what the vehicle manufacturer intended. To achieve that, we often calibrate the damping to compensate for age, suspension component wear and coil spring fatigue.

Is this piece good for Camry?
KYB is OE on Camry. Our Excel-G and Strut-Plus are made using the same components and assembly lines, and then calibrated for vehicles with miles on them.
Sadly about 80% of struts and shocks I have got out here in CA had come defective from factory… always come leaking or with no back pressure.
From KYB???
Have you contacted our customer or tech support teams if that's case?
What about the "premium" option?
KYB only builds parts that help restore designed control or provide additional control capabilities. We don't have levels of quality, like "premium," we just make correct parts.
