KYB Celebrates Our 50th Anniversary in North America!
In the summer of 1974, KYB introduced a limited line of Macpherson Strut replacement cartridges, Gas-a-Just and Premium Heavy Duty shock absorbers to North America. Relatively unknown in the automotive markets outside of Japan, the high quality, dependable and highly engineered KYB shock absorbers quickly took hold with a cost and quality conscience public.
KYB took full advantage of the economically booming ‘80s, building a new 500,000 square foot North American manufacturing plant in Franklin, Indiana just outside Indianapolis. The Franklin plant has been building OE and aftermarket shocks and struts since 1986.

I am confused, these MonoMax shocks are not described as heavy duty shocks on retailers such as Rock Auto. Also, I contacted their product support, and they also said not to use these monomax shocks with heavy duty applications and said they dont offer HD shocks. In this video you are clearly advertising them as HD shocks?
We understand your confusion and hope this explanation helps. "Heavy Duty" is more of a marketing term and isn't clearly defined as a category. Within the industry, it's often understood that "Heavy Duty" shocks are for commercial, fleet and very large OTR type vehicles. MonoMax are application specific and are engineered for some of those types of vehicles, so check our catalog to see if they're recommended for your vehicle: kyb.com/catalog The Truck U guys are saying these MonoMax shocks are for heavy duty use cases such as towing or hauling with a pickup. KYB MonoMax are large bore monotube dampers that are capable of performing in tough situations, and are the most robust shocks and struts we offer. If you have more specific questions about our products and your vehicle, please reach out to our tech. support team by emailing at techsupport@kyb.com
Are these good for lowered car?
I just bought these for 1988 Bronco looks like I made the right choice. Thanks KYB
Could you please tell me if the monomax shock absorber works with 1991 3vze, v6 4x4 pickup truck?
If you are in the US or Canada, we have an online catalog to answer that question: kyb.com/catalog. If you have additional questions, please reach out to the Tech. Support team by emailing, techsupport@kyb.com
The mechanic who installed our KYB shocks missed that explanation and did not even give us options to choose which one. Been to other shops just to check what's wrong with our ride coz something's not right. Now I know which one, Excel G it is.
I buy Amity shocks now because they are cheap. They work just as well as the more expensive ones.
You're free to buy whatever you like, but cheap suspension parts can lead to a less safe and less responsive vehicle. Your point about cheap shocks is incorrect in our experience and testing. Cheap shocks and struts don't work as well as quality ones like KYB makes. That fact is especially evident over time as the suspension and parts around a vehicle wear. We've done extensive testing and verified data with third parties several times over the years to prove that. Here' s a link to a video for more information: ruclips.net/video/T-oYGUH0hRk/видео.html

My 2010 Lexus RX350 i bought from a Lexus dealer had 136,000 miles now has 145,000 miles the ride not great thumps and slapping noise going over 1/4 road expansion joints small dips in the road you get a thud, nice roads it's ok Lexus are money pits high prices for maintenance $700 to $900 for new spark plugs, front oil leak could run $2,500 pulling he engine to do it no room is the problem new struts & shocks quote was $2,400 , i would do that using KYB products -should of bought a GM - If you have money to burn you tell them just do it
I have managed to buy the rear KYB Excel-gas shocks for my 2014 Mitubishi Mirage Hatchback! Now where can I buy the rear springs shown on facebook? KYB RZ5121?
Good job on acquiring the shocks, we hope you enjoy them! We don't sell springs in North America and can't make any official recommendations. Please check with the KYB sales division in your area for recommendations on where to buy.
@KYBAmericasCorp Do u guys offer and recommend the KYB’s truck plush monotube complete suspension kit for 3rd gen Tacoma?
We recommend checking the online catalog at kyb.com/catalog (for the US and Canada) to see what we offer for a specific vehicle. There are so many trim levels and packages that can affect our coverage of a model, so it’s best to do proper research before buying anything.
So is it true that the KYB - Excel - G shocks and struts not only restore the handling when it was new. But I heard the same thing answer that they are 10% firmer than oem. And what is the internal twin tube shock absorber’s piston? Let say Toyota’s compact vehicle like Yaris, Camry, Corolla. Maybe around 30MM internal twin tube piston?
Excel-G helps restore a vehicle’s handling and control by using the OE damping rates and increasing them to compensate for worn components on a vehicle that needs to have OE shocks replaced. 10% is probably a ballpark number, but every application is different and is dependent on what our engineers determine is correct through thorough testing for each vehicle. Internal twin-tube pistons are also application dependent. If you have any specific questions about a part or application, reaching out to our technical support team will get you further than the comment section here. They can be reached by email at TechSupport@kyb.com

Thanks for the reply. I am seriously thinking of installing KYB rear springs and shocks on my 2014 Mitubishi Mirage. It has 118,000 km and seems to softly sprung. I don't want to lower it at all just firm it up. Thanks.
Thank you! We recommend replacing all four corners at the same time. Good luck getting springs you're happy with!
Too bad the drivers were told which were KYB and which were premium competition. A blind test would have been interesting.
Sure it would be interesting, but it's not necessary. We used 2 separate data gathering devices onboard the vehicles to verify all the results and the drivers had no connection or loyalty to KYB. These are professional tire test drivers who are experts at understanding vehicle dynamics and control through feel. Their testimonies aren't influenced by knowing which brand was being used, and the data shows the actual results without any emotional bias. So we're covering recorded performance data, plus the opinions of professional test drivers who drive with extreme attention to the nuances of vehicle behavior. This is only one of the videos in the series. Check out the “KYB Performance Testing” playlist with the 2 sources of recorded data from the tests if you want to see more. The next video in the series is titled, “KYB Performance Test: Data Analysis” and it discusses pitch, roll and yaw through analysis of what the sensors recorded. Meaning it’s a data driven review of what a driver actually feels with each product and what sort of control the parts provide. The next video covers reasons to maintain shocks & struts. The last video is about the ABS activity during the testing, which is connected to safety and control under braking, especially in dynamic situations. For ease, here's the link for the Performance Testing playlist: ruclips.net/video/C3SeGYdD0JQ/видео.html

I have installed a pair of front struts in my Honda Odyssey 2002. KYB Plus struts made the front of my Honda higher more than 2 inches. It looks really strange why so high? Please advice and help what should I do at this point? Adam
We'd advise to double check that the correct part numbers were installed for your vehicle's year and trim level. Make sure that any suspension pivot points were tightened when the vehicle was back on level ground, look for binding because that could be an issue. Our next step would be to take it to a shop and seek professional advice, or you can reach out to our technical support directly: email TechSupport@kyb.com
My Nissan dealer recommended them as front strut assembly replacements for my 2014 Leaf. Looks like good advice.

Dead bearing in 1000km. That's your world-class-made-in-india quality right there.
Might not be a manufacturing defect, but there's always that possibility. A dead bearing can be due to incorrect torquing, just as an FYI. Has a professional looked into the issue and reached a conclusion?

What's the life span of these shocks
You should easily be able to get 50,000 miles without noticing any performance fade with any of our shocks/ struts/ complete assemblies. Our parts are made with the highest quality components and expertly engineered for specific vehicles and trim levels. We also offer several product lines for different vehicles, so there are plenty of factors to consider for such a broad question. There are external factors that can influence longevity, including what vehicle they’re installed on, how you drive, where you drive, and how often they’re used. The answer for how long our shocks and struts last changes if we’re talking about a grocery getter that sees minimal use in town versus a full size truck towing a heavy trailer over rocky terrain every other day. KYB shocks and struts are among the longest lasting and best performing in the industry, so they’re a great investment for any driver that values safety and performance.

A shop put monomax on my 2000 f150 and they are horrible Way to stiff , i feel like my whole truck is falling apart from stiffness
Feel free to swap them out for an OE twin-tube replacement Excel-G, or a monotube upgrade Gas-a-just. MonoMax is our most capable shock for trucks that work (haul and tow heavy things regularly), and the shop probably should've consulted with you on what that means for your vehicle and the way you use it.
Problem is for most cars you don't even make the gas adjust option if you wanted mono tubes You only have your Excel g which I've used before and liked would really wanted mono tubes
Most cars don't need monotubes. It's largely for trucks, sports cars, and some SUVs that require extra damping.
@@kybamericascorp needing monotubes is your opinion What if you want the performance of mono tubes.. your logic makes absolutely no sense That's like saying a car doesn't need A lot of horsepower
@@darrenporsch We have a tech support department that can assist if you are looking at putting monotubes on your specific vehicle. You can reach them through email at techsupport@kyb.com
@@kybamericascorp thank you but you don't make them for my model car unfortunately
KYB vs Ohlins vs Monroe vs Gabriel 😅
How do you adjust them?
They're use a monotube design, and they adjust on their own based on forces applied due to driver inputs and road conditions. They are not manually adjustable.
Is there a way to purchase a fully assemble strut/shock?
This answer applies to KYB in North America, if you are not in NA, please find the KYB company responsible for your market. We offer both Strut-Plus complete assemblies and we're just releasing new shock assemblies this month. We have a Where To Buy KYB section on our site: www.kyb.com/where-to-buy-kyb-shocks-and-struts/
@@kybamericascorp I do live in North America. I also do not see fully assemble struts on kyb website & other retail stores such as autozone. All im seeing is the struts itself but where’s the springs & mounts etc
Pro tip: Install the top bolt before you cut the banding that is hold the shock compressed. Once bolted cut the banding and the shock with slowly decompress. Guide the decompressing shock into the bottom hanger. This will be a lot easier than trying to line up the holes while trying to compress the shock at the same time.
I want buy for my car. Pajero sport 2021
I bought kyb front struts from local parts store. 10 months later both leaking oil. I went to parts store and they said after 30 days I have to contact manufacturer. I contacted kyb and they said they couldn't do anything..happy anniversary
Well, contacting the place of purchase is the correct first step. Authorized KYB retailers will have a program to deal with your issue, so maybe check back with them. Our warranty is listed on our website: www.kyb.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/KYB_Warranty_010124.pdf For future reference, be careful when installing suspension components with the wrong tools, there are many ways people unknowingly damage shocks and struts that lead to failures like leaks, so seek professional installation help if you're stuck. We also have a technical support team that's available during weekday hours.
They probably send u old ons or defects. I would buy off from their company instead or buy from other websites that they carry KYB shocks.

Someone please help. I'm installing KYB 555601 Gas-a-Just Shocks on the rear of my 2004 Ford Crown Victoria. The shaft keeps spinning such that I have to use some other tool to hold it in place, like a wrench, I see there's a special tool for it, but I feel I've already gotten it too tight in trying to get it tight enough so the shaft will stop turning so I can put a torque wrench on there. I feel like I've surpassed the 30 ft/lb spec, but the shaft still spins, so I can't verify with a torque wrench.
We have a technical support team that loves to assist, but they don’t monitor RUclips comment sections since they have their contact information listed on our website. Hi, after reading a lot on the internet, i buy KYB shocks to replace on the front of my lexus is250. i was also planning to change the springs at the same time, and ordered these also from KYB but i see the KYB springs are a tiny little bit thinner then the OEM springs. should i replace with KYB? of should i better leave the OEMS in? the difference is 1 millimeter at most.

Shouldnt it be a blind test rather than huge stickers on the door?
A blind test isn't as important as showing the performance from worn suspension components, low cost/ low quality components, and a premium competitor vs. KYB aftermarket suspension components. We already had an independent third party doing the test and capturing the data. It didn’t need to be blind. This testing video is about showing the viewers the difference in choosing the right parts for their vehicle.

What is best choice for dirt roads, including mountain trails?... Now have larger-than-OEM tires. Went from 235/75R15 to 31x10.5R15. No towing. Tried Excel-G, but they wore out too quickly. Tried Monomax, but only felt good for 1 month. After that, compression phase too stiff and extension phase too weak.
Uh I was hoping for an explanation of how they perform. Like the actual physics versus various applications. Which apps this matches and does not match, plus point me to other products in case of app mismatch. Useless video.
Thanks much for the explanation. I mistakenly put on heavier rims and I feel it immediately, the oil kyb shocks I noticed can't handle the weight so now I know to buy the gas shocks
Thank you
I put a set of the gas-a-just on my 01 Grand Cherokee w/4" lift and 31" tires. They are about 3 years old and ride exactly like they did the day i put them on (approx. 45k miles). They ride much MUCH firmer than stock. Especially in the rear. The Jeep is my work vehicle, i do remote welding on farm equipment and pull a trailer with my welder and tools so the stiff rear is great for me. I like the sportier ride, personally and they noticeably reduce body roll in corners. On little bumps/wash boards they are harsh at low speed. However, the faster you go, the better they get!
