These guys are amazing. I found their album Voice of the Void at a pretty low point in my life and it was a great help as a way to escape. The new album is killer. Kinda crazy I wore my Anciients shirt yesterday then we get this video.

I actually found these guys by way of a random Spotify recommendation last year. Really enjoy their stuff so far.

If you enjoy Anciients and Melodic Prog Metal, you should definitely check out Between the Buried and Me. Probably something off of the Colors album. Caught them in Houston when they released the album and they played it all the way through.. Best show ever!

This band sounds like if 311 was actually a Rush cover band, then tried to play Ghost from memory... and I LOVE them

Love this Anciients album, I would say it's a combination of Opeth and Mastodon, one of my favorite albums this year as well.
If you wanna deep dive Opeth I would start with a full listen of Still Life followed by Blackwater Park :)

This album is getting many top 10s from many RUclipsrs.
Reminds me of Alice In Chains vocally and Opeth musically.
I hear no Mastodon in this at all.
    But I like it...alot.
The new trend is incorporating jazz elements and very prog elements into the heavy music.
The growls were a nice touch too.
    Good choice, Richard.
Btw, take a deep dive into Opeth.
Think you'll like what you hear.

You should listen to their first album, it was their top take.
This one is more melodic and it has its own touch

Haven't started the video yet but I am just waiting for you guys to do something by GWAR, Brujeria, Crotchduster, Leng T'che, Finntroll, or Cephalic Carnage (one of the joke songs like Black Metal Sabbath or Dying Will Be the Death of Me). I think Judson deserves to see the more tongue-in-cheek side of metal.

Please cover any of the most listened songs by "Imperial circus dead decadence"
Very orchestral metal writing, focusing on motifs and development.
The songs have so much fucking polish, and every single instrument has its pocket.
    Totally unreal Japanese metal.

This band/song reminds me of a cross between Dream theatre music and 311 vocalist, if he started screaming periodically lol . Me likey…….

I am literally in shock…😳 how the hell can you have hard time with Opeth 😅… it’s one of the best bands from the 2000s , every album I a banger even the ones from their prog era. Have you tried listening to still life, my arms your hearse ? Is it because the songs are too long and dense ?

If you guys like Anciients you should check out Dvne and Hippotraktor. I like Anciients but I like these 2 bands more and they are in the same ball park but heavier.

Both are great. Hippotraktor’s new album is on another level

@cd5642 I only discovered Hippotraktor this year and was blown away by Stasis. Then I went and checked out their debut Meridian which I think is equally good.

Yeah this is very easy-listening and predictable compared to Opeth, that's probably why this is more palatable for Richard (or for anyone "newer/unfamiliar" to prog). Also Mikael does very unconventional things even for hardcore prog people. And that's exactly what I love about Opeth.
