Anciients are depressingly underrated for how incredible their music is. Props for introducing more people to their music by featuring it on your channel!
This is a compliment... it sounds like a Jerry Cantrell and Mastadon mash-up. It's pretty rad!
one of my favorite albums of the year, simply beautiful
These guys are amazing. I found their album Voice of the Void at a pretty low point in my life and it was a great help as a way to escape. The new album is killer. Kinda crazy I wore my Anciients shirt yesterday then we get this video.
Anciients! Awesome!
Wow I love this! Thanks for introducing it, Richard!
I actually found these guys by way of a random Spotify recommendation last year. Really enjoy their stuff so far.
This was definitely a surprise for me as well last year. I stumbled into this album right as it released, and had never heard of them before that. It ended up being one of if not my favorite albums last year. It was a tie between this Anciients album and "Die Urkatastrophe" by Kanonenfieber for favorite album last year, but they're a bit different vibes.
If yall are looking for other prog-y/experimental sorta metal but not fully prog, I'd recommend White Ward, they've definitely been one of my favorites from the past couple years. I'd recommend the song Love Exchange Failure.
Thanks. Never heard these guys until now. Love prog metal, and the reaction videos.
Happy New Year guys, I hope this is as good as the last and more, keep these coming !
Very slept on band! Love this track a lot! Glad you covered them. 👍🤘
It's metal but it's like, chill. I appreciate that
Haha I just checked out this album earlier today based on your description on your top 25 of 2024!
Grand coming from Americans that Canadians should change out *their* president, real grand.
If you enjoy Anciients and Melodic Prog Metal, you should definitely check out Between the Buried and Me. Probably something off of the Colors album. Caught them in Houston when they released the album and they played it all the way through.. Best show ever!
This album is getting many top 10s from many RUclipsrs.
Reminds me of Alice In Chains vocally and Opeth musically.
I hear no Mastodon in this at all.
But I like it...alot.
The new trend is incorporating jazz elements and very prog elements into the heavy music.
The growls were a nice touch too.
Good choice, Richard.
Btw, take a deep dive into Opeth.
Think you'll like what you hear.
You should listen to their first album, it was their top take.
This one is more melodic and it has its own touch
Illyria - "Frostbite" from their last record is an amazing song
This band sounds like if 311 was actually a Rush cover band, then tried to play Ghost from memory... and I LOVE them
...right up until those righteous harsh vocals! Haha
WTF ... lol
Love this Anciients album, I would say it's a combination of Opeth and Mastodon, one of my favorite albums this year as well.
If you wanna deep dive Opeth I would start with a full listen of Still Life followed by Blackwater Park :)
Like so much this song!!! I'd like to see a reaction of Crypta - The Other Side of Anger.
Frohes neues jahr für sie 🎉♥🌠
And to you as well!
Kalmah - Withering Away
Nintendocore haha, finally 😅
From time to time it is a fun and joyful genre, can't wait 🤩
RIVERSIDE - Lament
This band/song reminds me of a cross between Dream theatre music and 311 vocalist, if he started screaming periodically lol . Me likey…….
I'm writing this halfway through the song, but it's giving me Mastadon and Alice In Chains vibes
Also my initial thought.. 🤗 ...and then came the growls.. and Opeth came to mind.. 🤔
Please cover any of the most listened songs by "Imperial circus dead decadence"
Very orchestral metal writing, focusing on motifs and development.
The songs have so much fucking polish, and every single instrument has its pocket.
Totally unreal Japanese metal.
AOTY 2024 for me. Cloack of the Vast and Black is my favorite track on this album
Haven't started the video yet but I am just waiting for you guys to do something by GWAR, Brujeria, Crotchduster, Leng T'che, Finntroll, or Cephalic Carnage (one of the joke songs like Black Metal Sabbath or Dying Will Be the Death of Me). I think Judson deserves to see the more tongue-in-cheek side of metal.
If you guys like Anciients you should check out Dvne and Hippotraktor. I like Anciients but I like these 2 bands more and they are in the same ball park but heavier.
Both are great. Hippotraktor’s new album is on another level
@cd5642 I only discovered Hippotraktor this year and was blown away by Stasis. Then I went and checked out their debut Meridian which I think is equally good.
Dvne is killer. I'll have to checkout the other band.
As a Canadian, get him out of here bring wisdom back 😂
luv us
I’m not familiar with this band. I need to look in to them. This is pretty good.
I am literally in shock…😳 how the hell can you have hard time with Opeth 😅… it’s one of the best bands from the 2000s , every album I a banger even the ones from their prog era. Have you tried listening to still life, my arms your hearse ? Is it because the songs are too long and dense ?
Didnt know Eminem had a twin brother
Wen Nevermore?
Day 31 of requesting Diablo Swing Orchestra.
Yeah this is very easy-listening and predictable compared to Opeth, that's probably why this is more palatable for Richard (or for anyone "newer/unfamiliar" to prog). Also Mikael does very unconventional things even for hardcore prog people. And that's exactly what I love about Opeth.
