No machine gun nailers!! This is another homeowner's nightmare. Straight up. I am learning sooo much from watching your videos. Should I press my roofing contractor to use 4, 5 or 6 nails?? And how roof pitch and weather, manufacturers advice and local building codes can affect those answers. Then there is the type of nail to use. Steel, galvanized, aluminum, copper and some look like screws-have threads, and some are smooth. Nail placement is everything! Wow. I have a new roof scheduled and I feel out of my realm completely.
Here is the bottom line on this . . . First the sand will come off these flimsy asphalt shingles and clog your gutters and drains. The metal roofs look good but the 30 Ga metal is too thin and rusts . . . noisy especially in a hail storm or a hard rain: I am looking to pour a solid concrete or clay roof with attach points so form can be added to create a beautiful tile appearance . . . these attachments are to become one piece so there is no possible leakage. This concrete roof should last over 50 years but is to remain on the roof. . . not removed and replaced with the piece by piece so the cost is ridiculous. No more halfwits working on roof jobs or in the government. The landfill is full and replacing the asphalt shingle with better material appears reasonable. It also adds more aesthetic value to the structure.
First time i saw closed valley in asphalt shingle roof was here in YT. Not single roof here is made with closed valley all are open valley and most likely one reason, it´s much easier to do and for sure doesn't leak so easily.
"Screwed construction: houses gone wrong, roof edition.". That way you can look all over the house and diagnose all kinds of issues. Though you'd have to get slav b mic....
Your content is excellent. Short, packed and easy to watch. I would call the Playlist "How To Save A LOT Of Money In Roof Repairs!!!" Or something like that, that will not only summarize the final cost of getting things done cheap vs getting things done right, but will also draw views from those that are looking to get things done at the lowest cost and show them the actual cost of going cheap. I would even suggest renaming your video titles that would have that same kind of strategy, like "the cheapest (or easiest) way to install roof vents" etc.. you get the idea. People looking to save a buck will click and see what cheap actually costs. Glad you asked for suggestions. I hope mine is profitable
Haha funny you mention box vent. Just last Friday I came across a leak inspection that had a piss poor vent installation. I was going to shoot the video but right beforehand I had an episode of meniere's and got sick from vertigo. I've only got the rough video from when I was showing the homeowner on my cell phone. I'll upload it here in a bit. I asked the homeowner if they had called the previous installer to take care of it cuz it was only a few years ago. They said he was gone, I questioned what they meant by gone. They said he passed away from an overdose.
Literally all you have to do is take a hose up there and spray small parts of the roof while a partner watches the area where the leak is and let's you know when you hit the right spot. Have to move slow to give water time to get down to partner. Once you locate the exact location of leak. Choose a path to repair.
American roofs really are poor. All the roofs in the uk are a thick terracotta style tyle. Their's a reason we have plenty of houses that are over 500 years old still standing
@@GrandRoofingInc that would be a great idea, so like when you're showing these fail videos, you can put a link in the video and point to it and say, "If you'd like to learn the proper way to install a valley, click on this link here" Your channel is growing and you've got some serious potential to stand out and above most other roofing channels
@@ScottWConvid19 That's a pretty good idea thanks! I want to be a different Roofing channel. Not the same old (world's fastest roofer). If you want to see a totally different unique roofer check-out Patrick's epic journey. He commented above. It's my brother, he's roofed almost as long as me but turn commercial fisherman.
Open valley is good to start with and use 3 ft wide asphalt strip into valley first then shingles over it with some added tar and leave 8 inch wide clear channel in middle.
So don't figure out the cause of the leak with a house, just replace the roof. Hell of an upsell. Car goes into mechanic with a leaky head gasket. Service writer tell customer needs a new engine. Too much work trying to diagnose the cause of the leak and trying a new gasket. Tries to convince customer selling them a new engine is a better option than looking into minor repairs.
@@mjstrese yeah, he is serious. The roofer knows what the cause is and the fix will cost as much to monkey into place as redoing the whole roof. Every thing he touches to fix it becomes a source of the next issue, just redo the whole thing for the same cost.
It's needs a new roof because it wasn't installed correctly and can't reliably be fixed. Everything else would just be a band aid repair that would eventually leak.
I decided to further my buissness. Some of reason was inspired by watching your videos .I've hired a advertising company called Google Partners. Always went on word of mouth before .it's a side buissness but roofing is what I love .I dream one day ill just do what makes me happy .even if I create a 401k of my very oun .this money government don't tax till you take it out then not as much biggest thing helth I esurance .well as you know there so much to consider
We are still learning to. One of the newest things I'd recently did was setup a solo 401K trust. I can contribute as well as the company to my solo 401k. It is tax-deferred, best part is it is self-directed so you can invest in most things you want to and know. I'm not an accountant so check with someone in your area. It is very good to move your profits too to lower your tax burden. Then invest and grow it that much faster.
Long story with my name McWilliams brothers construction. Well they no brother any more at 51 he got badly ill .we thought was covid but was not I lost my partner and close brother
Roofing inspections: bad valleys
You nailed it! Being the fastest means nothing if the quality isn't there. Just ask my wife lol
Hahaha thanks, that was a great laugh to wake up to!
🤣🤣🤣 Someone's gonna ask for her number now....😬
About to do my valley tomorrow. I'm glad I learned from someone who knows what they're doing. So many simple mistakes.
Keep it up man. I love the videos. Let’s call it Roofing Gone Wrong!
Thanks! I think that's kind of a common searched phrase, kind of like the one square challenge.

How did the new roof install go? What specifications did you end up going with?
When I did roofing we always started near the valley
