    Super informative video! It's a shame that new Tyranid faction players are getting shoe-horned into builds like Vanguard or Endless Swarm due to the unavailability of key units like Exocrines & Maleceptors. It's endlessly frustrating that a multi-million pound, publicly traded company like GW can't manufacture the products that its customers want to buy. 😕

    @14:15 The 10 gargoyles are spread out in a line. How do you ensure that unit stays within unit coherency (within 2" horizontally of at least two other models from the same unit) when screening like this?
    If you get shot and lose 1 gargoyle you are now down to 9, where do you remove this gargoyle from without breaking coherency??
    Do you have to ensure that all of your gargoyles are in a very tight line so that the gargoyles on the end will always remain within 2" of two other models?

    • @Ryuichiro13
      @Ryuichiro13 Год назад +2

      Coherency is only checked at the end of the turn until then they will either be dead or, if they were charges and somehow survived, fought which gave them 2x3" of movement to rearange.
      The only way he will actually loose stuff to the coherency rule is when 2-3 models were shot and then the enemy didn't charge. If that actually happened I assume he is more than happy to sacrifice a few, as they did their job of blocking the enemy movement.

    Yay, this is great.
    While I agree on your take on Shadow in the Warp, and having it work longer, I have found there are a few reasons to consider using it on your own turn:
    The opponent cannot move their units around to minimize the effect of having some units being on OC0, nor can they position to make the best out of defensive/reactive strategems.

    So I have a question about the gargoyles, they flew through several walls, and I was under the impression that the new fly rule makes you measure the vertical distance to the wall?

    • @TacticalTortoise
      @TacticalTortoise  Год назад

      Infantry can pass through walls without moving vertically

    • @danielhughes3758
      @danielhughes3758 Год назад

      As long as the walls are lower than 2 inches (exactly 2 might also work, don't remember) infantry can move as if they don't exist. If they flew through higher walls than that without penalty it was an illegal move

  • @LeeHobbies
    @LeeHobbies Год назад +5

    Is it not the case that the Gargoyles can't quite move block like that, because as a unit of more than 6, they have to keep to 2" coherency to 2 models each, tightening up their spread. It's still great, but you can't string them out like that as I understand the rules.

    • @TacticalTortoise
      @TacticalTortoise  Год назад +2

      it's absolutely legal; you simply need the models at the end of the chain to have 2 buddies (usually in little triangles or just by having the line compressed a bit), since the models inside the chain will always have a model on either side

    • @LeeHobbies
      @LeeHobbies Год назад +3

      @@TacticalTortoise but then when just one or two die, you have to remove them from the ends to keep mid coherency, and then won't you be left with 8 or 9 and one end of the line without it's triangle, so you'll have to remove 2 or 3 at the end of the turn until you get to 6? Not sure, I've been playing since '87 and I'm hoping to get my head around this game by 13th edition, haha. By the way, super appreciate the content and your approach to it. 40k wasn't as much fun in the old days when there was no RUclips, what we call the dark ages.
      Meta wise, my nids are running into Custodes every week. by turn 5 I have about 100 points left, every single week. My opponent consistently finishes the game with around 800 to 1000 points left, I've yet to even half kill one tank in 4 games (he brings a caladius and a land raider), I just can't get hits through into wounds. BUT, he can't compete on points with his tiny elite army, so I'm having a game of removing my miniatures with a broom, but slaughtering him on points, it doesn't feel like warhammer, it's me killing nothing slowly but ticking objective boxes, kind of boring because it's 40k and I want to have a bloody battle. It's like I turn up to bang my head against an impenetrable wall, after 5 turns I've got blood pouring down my face, no miniatures left, but I'm on 91 points and he can't catch up, yay, doesn't really feel like winning to be honest.
      He does have 2 other armies, Eldar and Tau.

    • @mattmiller7700
      @mattmiller7700 Год назад +2

      @@LeeHobbiesA win is a win no matter what the score. I don't know what there is to complain about if you're winning by large margins. You say it doesn't feel like WH40k? I guess I can see that argument that you're not killing things but the game is won on points, not models killed. If you take a "fluffy" view of what you're doing on the tabletop imagine your army is strategically throwing units to capture key objectives and overwhelming the defenders. Yes, they aren't outright killing them but imagine them securing key points like fortresses or population centers.

    • @LeeHobbies
      @LeeHobbies Год назад +1

      @@mattmiller7700 Haha, oh yes, the other billion tyranids waiting to make planet fall always gets a mention. Yes I get your point, I feel that, but it is quite a specific game to just try and win on points and not feel like much of a battle is happening, at least not to my opponent. My opponent will eventually start taking more units to score with I'm sure, and then our meta will shift a little and I'll have a bit of competition on scoring, and he'll have slightly fewer elite units on the board and can experience the joy of removing casualties here and there. I guess I honestly care about having a fun battle and don't give a ha'penny giz about the win or loss as long as it was enjoyable. My fav games of Bolt Action have all been losses, but my god they were good fun. In Gaslands I think the winner is the first thing to be forgotten, it was the events on the table that get remembered. I'm not salty, I'm enjoying the 40k after a crappy 9th ed (been playing since 1st and early 8th was my peak), I really like the mission system overall, I still hate stratagems, but the game flows well at the moment. Really it's just a bad meta matchup to be playing nids every week against custards, it funnels us down one way of playing. I'm about to paint 218 more bugs, so that will open up the different detachments for me to play with and create variation etc. His lists will have to change to deal with 200 model swarms as well as 10 models monster lists. All the best :]

    Nice video, very helpful to get an idea of things. I do have a some questions about the Biovores though.
    *1 Unit (3)* can shoot spore mines instead of using the dmg profil.
    Does that mean 3 mines?
    And can i spread them apart or will this be a 3 man units of spores?
    And could i choose to launch just 1 with 1 Biovore in the unit, while the other 2 shoot with their regular gun?
    And lastly, does the spore mine explosion trigger work through cover? Meaning, it would be wise to shoot them behind walls to move block my opponent completely, so he has to wide swing them, in order to get line of sight. Otherwise he has to tank them right?

  • @Psychick312
    @Psychick312 Год назад

    You mentioned around 5 mins that synapse doesn’t help against forced battleshock, but then said that shadow in the warp is not very good in a mirror match because tyranids can be in synapse. I thought shadow happened in the command phase, not specifically the battleshock phase, so correct me if I’m wrong, but synapse wouldn’t help against an opponents shadow.
    Edit: if I’m going to be honest, it’s kind of confusing, because synapse specifically says “each time a tyranid model takes a battleshock test,” not “in the battleshock step.” So raw, wouldn’t synapse affect every test, even out of phase tests?

    • @TacticalTortoise

    Everyone has been doing vanguard or harvesters but i think unending swarm is actually the best
    Its essentially a slightly better gsc. Your ability to score secondaries and primary is right up there at the very top of the game
    Probably not going to be killing much but will kill some and the chance of you outscoring your opponents is incredibly high
    Unfortunately this playstyle isnt particularly popular so i think thats why the other 2 detachments will mostly be what people play

    • @Viewer41
      @Viewer41 Год назад +3

      Yeah, the only problems with Unending Swarm is it's general lack of killing power and the time it takes to use.
      Most Tournaments are timed, and moving 120 - 200 gaunts takes a lot of time! 😅
      Tournaments in general make it very difficult to play Hordes of any faction.

    • @Wes-xk6hl
      @Wes-xk6hl Год назад

      @adamcummins8930 yea irl you'd have to use trays. Otherwise just play it in tts (which most of my games are)
      People tend yo not like not alot of killing and play for points playstyle. But unfortunately that's the most effective way to win the game gw has made 40k. Actually killing models ultimately has nothing to do with winning other than the few secondaries which require it
      Plus being fast has always been king in 40k and you'd be hard pressed to find a faster army than unending swarm nids
