I would LOVE an analysis on Athena! She has to be one of if not my favorite character from the Apollo Justice Trilogy and it makes me so happy to see people discussing her neurodivergent coding!
I'm not sure if it's because of my viewing habits, but I've noticed how various preschool shows I watch, especially recent ones, have characters that I see as autistic coded. A few examples include Lyla, Luke, and Stu from Lyla In The Loop, Kira, Rita, Penny, and Bea from Princess Power, and Eureka, Pepper, and Barry from Eureka.
Yes! There he is, my boy! I absolutely love Flint Lockwood and how he represents ND, and it makes the message of the movie resonate a lot with me. He shows a lot of traits like taking things literally, problems with sarcasm (both using and understanding it), having issues feeling like he fits in, and so much more. Plus, he’s one of the few characters I can think of who vocal stims. I’ll stop my rambling now, but viewing Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs in a ND lens enhances it a lot to me.
Love seeing Ace Attorney characters on these lists! First Maya and now Athena, it just makes me very happy! If you were to make another one of these, I would love to hear your thoughts on Franziska von Karma! She just speaks to me so much and I love her. She is incredibly blunt, not great at social interaction, people have a hard time reading her tone (maybe her tone is very monotone in some way), she tends to take things very literally, she struggles to express her emotions and her empathy towards others, she is a very straight forward and logical person, she likes sticking to a plan and a script and gets frustrated if things aren’t following that script, and her having a special interest in law would make so much sense as she is fully aware of all the loopholes she can take advantage of.
Oooo, von karma is a good one! I plan to do a few videos focusing on individual characters for a bit, but I'd honestly love to do another ranking format like this again sometime. She'd be a great addition there!
Excuse me while I info dump about Ace Attorney. Okay, I know this has been said many times over in this comment section, but I am *so* glad to see Athena in this video! I recently got into Dual Destinies and she immediately became my favorite character! Her sensitive hearing and fascination with psychology really made me think she might be autistic. What’s really interesting is that she shows signs of not only autism, but multiple other neurodivergences as well. It makes sense because it’s common for multiple neurodivergences to co-occur with each other. What also struck me was her hyper empathy. It’s beyond frustrating how we’re constantly assumed to have no or low empathy! Like Athena, I have so much empathy it gets overwhelming! I also wonder if Metis, Athena’s mother, may have also been autistic. Based on how much I’ve read without spoiling the final case, Metis was known to be awkward with pretty much everyone besides her robots. She and Athena also tended to get into arguments due to their struggles with communication. This part really captures my interest for multiple reasons. First is the fact that people are suggesting that autism could be genetic. I also think their dynamic really captures the experiences of a lot of autistic parents, especially those who also have autistic children. Then there’s the fact that outsiders can view neurodivergent families as dysfunctional or wrong simply because they don’t function like a typical family unit. In the case of Athena and her mother, some people accused Metis of being an abusive mother who only viewed Athena as her guinea pig when, in reality, she was trying to help Athena manage her sensory issues the best way she knew.
It'd be cool to see a whole vid about helping kids understand and respect kids with Autism through children's media, like the cartoon Pablo, Bruno in the Thomas the Tank engine show All Engines Go, and other specifically from the younger kids media. Like how they portray Bruno for example, they just act respectful but don't make his whole character just "the token autistic character". Also that one character in Arthur could be added to this conversation.
That Pablo one did look pretty interesting actually! I think that would be a great video idea. I also want to do individual videos for specific autistic coded characters, possibly
Especially in time for PBS Kids' show Carl the Collector about a character on the autism spectrum that's coming out this Fall based on looking up other children's shows with ASD characters
Looking back on my childhood shows, I noticed that a handful of characters showed signs of being neurodivergent, some being more easy to spot than others. One that I am definitely sure about is Max from Max and Ruby. Max is mostly nonverbal, only saying a couple words at a time, and repeating them. Some of the things he does can be chalked up to him just being a kid, but he is often playing with his toys, and lightheartedly messing with his sister. A lot of people despise Ruby, but I wouldn’t say that she was bad by any means. She is a child herself, she’s not qualified to be a parent, and she doesn’t yet seem to realize that speaking her mind can be offensive to others. She is also probably neurotypical, which explains why she doesn’t always understand Max and his methods of doing things, and just thinks that he’s goofing around. Not only that, Ruby also ended up as a full time parent for her little brother, since until the show was basically rewritten, they didn’t have parents, and the only adult they had was their grandma, that would only come by occasionally to check on them. But it still shows that Ruby clearly cares for her brother, and vice versa.

I talked about it all the time, listened to all the songs, wanted to cosplay Japan or China, read the fanfics, watched let plays of the fan games, etc. it’s died down a little but it’s still one of my comfort shows and Japan was always one of my favorites because I just related to him and thought he was a great balance with the overly emotional Italy and scary exterior Germany. yknow, i never really picked up on futaba being autistic, but it definitely makes sense. shes my favorite character from persona 5 and i relate to her in a lot of ways. great analysis, as always.
I never really thought about Schroeder as neurodivergent either. But It's been years since I've paid attention to Peanuts, so I haven't really thought of him at all, lol. But yeah I do see it with the fixation on Beethoven and piano. But there's also his stronger sense of right and wrong compared to the other kids. While most of his friends just seem to let each other's shenanigans slide, he will call them out on it, especially when they've don real wrong to someone; like when Charlie Brown was singled out for not getting a single valentine, and the they try to make it up by recycling one the next day. And now that I think of it, Schroeder does seem a little more advanced in general (along with Linus). Like, their class is assigned a book report on Peter Rabbit, but Schroeder clearly red the wrong book, Robin Hood, and tried to pass it off as a "comparison" without actually knowing anything. It's played for laughs, but then you have to consider how he chose to read the book he found more interesting; one that is much longer, more complex and mature than the simple 20 minute read he was assigned. Just my two cents.
Yeah! I actually didn't think of Schroeder til someone mentioned him in the comments of the last video. If you Google him, one of the first alternate searches that comes up is "Is Schroeder autistic?". Which was pretty cool to see. And I do agree, he has a stronger sense of doing what's right too. It's definitely pretty cool to see autistic representation like that in Peanuts even
Yeah! Flint was actually suggested in the comments of the last video, so that's why he was added! I didn't really think of him as an autistic coded character right away, since I saw that movie when it came out in 2009, but honestly, he does resonate well with that imo
I agree with all your rankings except:1)Seeing Schroeder on here blew my mind. 🤯 2)Louie Duck...I don't really see it IMHO. ...........SPOILER FOR DUCKTALES 2017....................... I'm surprised no one suggested Della Duck, who would definitely go into the "spectacular" tier! I connected with her instantly because I saw the coding in her. She's also my favorite character on the show.
Honestly trying to think of other characters to add as the more you delve into it, the more you realise just how many of said characters have those nondivergent traits; even if it wasn't on purpose necessarily. I suggest as a possible pick Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice, seeing that she claimed herself to be "strange and unusual"; along with doing otherworldly things like befriending ghosts.
I see Todd from Bojack Horseman as neurodivergent. I also nominate Hammy from Over the Hedge, Po from Kung Fu Panda, Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Spike and Petrie from The Land Before Time, Gray from Jurassic World, Kopaka from Bionicle, Hiccup from How to Train your Dragon, Trevor Belmont from Castlevania, Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid 3, and Raiden from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance to join the neurodivergent club
What character should get a full individual analysis? 🤔 Tell me down below 👇

yknow, i never really picked up on futaba being autistic, but it definitely makes sense. shes my favorite character from persona 5 and i relate to her in a lot of ways. great analysis, as always.
Yeah! I think she definitely shows those autistic qualities a lot - definitely glad they put that in the game 🙂
It's definitely pretty cool to see autistic representation like that in Peanuts even
I'm surprised you put Flint Lockwood on the list, I remember watching the film almost all the time and I can relate to him as well
2)Louie Duck...I don't really see it IMHO.
...........SPOILER FOR DUCKTALES 2017.......................
I'm surprised no one suggested Della Duck, who would definitely go into the "spectacular" tier! I connected with her instantly because I saw the coding in her. She's also my favorite character on the show.
Della is another good one. I am actually kinda surprised she didn't get suggested myself haha
ACE ATTORNEY?! ACE ATTORNEY.

Great video!
Thanks so much Maccas!! I really appreciate it man
I'd say Alastor from Hazbin Hotel, he's odd and naturally curious and oddly flexible
2:00. I can feel a hundred fans of Data from Star Trek Next Generation screaming at you right now!😂😂
Honestly trying to think of other characters to add as the more you delve into it, the more you realise just how many of said characters have those nondivergent traits; even if it wasn't on purpose necessarily. I suggest as a possible pick Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice, seeing that she claimed herself to be "strange and unusual"; along with doing otherworldly things like befriending ghosts.
Lydia is another good one tbh! You could put ParaNorman in a similar category imo
Marcy Wu from Amphibia
aww, lame, you haven't seen Bojack Horseman. Jonah is absolutely S tier. Also Todd Sanchez, but he's a bit more ADHD than autistic.
Added to the list of shows to watch :)
Idk if ur familiar with the Harvest Moon series but I’ve come across a lot of characters from that series that seem autistic coded.
@@leocat_7 I've been recommended Harvest Moon, but never played. It's a farming sim right?
@@noahthe0tter Yup! Plenty of games to choose from and go through too.
I got summoned from Futaba.
Futaba is great!
7:37 I did it i saved the town/j 🤣 Also, another idea wold be lucifer from hazbin hotel! 😈🐥
