As far as autistic representation in anime. There are a few that come to mind L from death note Senku from dr stone Hibiki from the anime movie bubble Shiegeo Kageyama from Mob pyscho 100 And there’s the manga, With the light: Raisung an Autistic Child. The manga is about a mom raising her son with autism. It is shows what it is like to be autistic in Japan
There's also Kamille Bidan, the protagonist of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, who says he's autistic in one episode (can't remember the number). Apparently this got taken out in the english dub and replaced with "neurotic", though. Amuro Ray from the preceding Gundam series (the first one in fact), is also a pretty good autistic-coded character who I relate to a lot.
I always thought Usagi/Serena from Sailor Moon was autistic coded. Just not the nerdy stereotype autistic characters usually are portrayed as. Another character, Ami/Amy is the nerdy girl of the group. She's been suggested to be autistic but she seems more socially aware than Usagi...but that's just my interoperation. She could just be better at masking, she is VERY shy. In her debu episode, it's stated she left her private school for extremely gifted kids because of bullying. And I'm really only familiar with the English Dic dub of Sailor Moon.
Fred from Scooby-Doo, specifically the show Mystery Incorporated, was confirmed by the writers to be autistic. He hyperfixates on traps and solving mysteries, but he goes through a character arc outside of that over the course of two seasons. He also has a romantic storyline that’s treated earnestly
If you’re still taking suggestions, I _highly_ recommend the movie ‘The Mitchells Vs the Machines’. In the movie a family of “weirdos” goes on an adventure to save the world from a robot apocalypse, and 3/4 of the family are pretty autistic coded. The younger brother is the most obvious, the sister (our main character) is more subtle but still easy to recognize as autistic, and the dad is totally hyperfixated on survivalist stuff with poor social skills. And the best part is, since it was a complete accident that they turned out autistic (the director has said it was accidental), the movie isn’t one of those gross “even autistic people can do the thing, they’re not so different!” things, but rather a movie about love, family, and giving people a second chance. It’s genuinely an amazing movie, and stands on its own irregardless of the autism rep. It can be viewed on Netflix.
@@ElfandePou-cb9bm the vibes (and traits) are pretty recognizable when you live with them 24/7. One of my closest friends, who is autistic, had guessed I was autistic years before I told her I had started the process of getting diagnosed. She was totally unsurprised when I told her.
@thatonepossum5766 people assume I'm either autistic or an asshole. I am not an asshole, so maybe I'm autistic lol. I DO have ADHD inattentive type, but also I'm a woman, so when I tried to get diagnosed it was basically "you have 90% of the criteria, but because you make eye contact and understand metaphors, you're not autistic." Uh sorry, but masking?! And I'm a reader, and interested in the English language(bc I'm barely average at communicating; in the 53rd percentile for written). Personally, I think the assessment I was given was made for like a 12yo boy, not a grown adult, and the (autstic) psych spoke over me and told me how I felt, AFTER I told him that I have trouble speaking to deemed authorities without a pause to process. Paid $3k for that ass too.
The Muppets (2011) was so cute! The Muppets Most Wanted was...o.k. The first one was so much better! I love how they integrated Walter into the main cast of characters. My sister and I didn't watch Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, but we did watch Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. However, the only disability representation they had at the time was mostly for people with physical disabilities, like the time he had that kid in a wheelchair on his show. Also, Sesame Street didn't have Autism representation for a long time, because the only character with a disability they had on the show was Linda, who was hearing impaired. Kids like me had nothing. I also enjoyed Atlantis: The Lost Empire. This is the first time I'd ever heard anyone suggest that Milo was Autistic. However, I have seen videos where women have admitted to having crushes on him! I guess some like the brainy guys! Anyway, I could see him being Autistic.
Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood also featured a character who has cerebral palsy and that makes me really happy knowing that this show has taken consideration of inclusion of another very common childhood disability. I have cerebral palsy, autism, and ADHD, so I am more than happy that this show took the lead in including a character who had the same disability as me.
The show is kinda big rn, but Maomao from Apothecary Diaries is probably my favorite autistic headcanon ive found, particularly female rep. There's stuff that's super on the nose, like how she's generally somewhat subdued, but gets very excited about her special interest (medicine, but mostly poisons). But she also has trouble connecting to the characters around her, and often is processing tons of social norms in her head while trying to talk to those around her. She also is literally described as having a "strong sense of justice" which, while great at times, causes her to get overly upset. I'm also just happy that they don't show her as if she like hates women too or something, just because she doesn't fit in, which is a very tired trope imo.
Yeah I was watching that going "man that girl has an intense special interest". Though I thought the same of the main character in Ascendence of a bookworm.
If no one else has mentioned it then Laios from Delicious in Dungeon is definitely neurodivergent in some capacity. He is hyper fixated on monsters and the Dungeon and has trouble recognizing social cues and socializing with others, but he’s a good guy and he just genuinely wants to save his sister.
OMGGG TYSM FOR DOING FORD, IVE ALWAYS HEADCANNONED HIM AS AUTISTIC AND SEEING MY SUGGESTION INCLUDED BRINGS ME SO MUCH JOYYYYY AAAAAAA STIMMING AND SCREAMINGGG HES MY FAVORITE CHARACTER AND I LOVE GRAVITY FALLS SO MUCHH
In terms of autism in anime, I really like Rina Tennoji from Love Live: Nijigasaki High School Idol Club! Her main trait is that she cant show her emotions properly, so to get around this she uses her Rina Chan Board, which is a sketchbook where she draws how she feels and holds it up to her face. Even when performing, she has a digital version of the Rina Chan Board that automatically changes with her emotions! I feel like that was a really cool way of showing how autistic people can still emote and communicate, even if the autism coding is unintentional (The anime shes from is also really cute)
the thing about ford is that he doesn't just "act smart", diverting him from stereotypes. he obviously isn't just good at the stuff he works on, he actually loves it and enjoys talking about it, some bad "smart" repersentations ive seen just make the autistic characters act like their just good at it and dont even enjoy it, like more of just the pet peeve side instead of the "i love this thing and would die for it" side. i genuinely relate to ford because ive always loved math and have exceeded in it. not to mention that i googled it, and it turns out polydactyly can lead to other growth conditions(?) such as autism. he actually acts like an autistic old man and not a "man that hates but is good at math". i mean, he literally summoned a demon just for it to teach him math lol. (i already commented but i felt like saying why i think hes the best representation that isn't exactly stated canon :D)
I've always felt that Flint Lockwood from Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is autistic. Since I first saw it as a child his character, and the movie as a whole, resonated a lot with me.
I strongly recommend Peridot and Pearl from Steven Universe, due to them any other person that has watched the show describes their autistic experience with the gem's names, I'm a Pearl for example, as many autistic adults are, most Peridots are definitely today's autistic youth as there is more understanding on the spectrum now. 🤗
Have you heard of Kotaro from Gakuen Babysitters? That’s an anime about two orphaned brothers, Ryuuchi and Kotaro, who are taken in by a high school chairwomen. Ryuuichi is assigned to work at the high school’s daycare(that the staff’s children attend) and his brother, Kotaro attends it. Traits I see in Kotaro is that he’s soft spoken, almost never talks at all, despite being 2-3 years old. He mostly communicates by saying “huh”. Often, he prefers to sit alone and look at picture books than engage in the chaos going on with the other children. While he gets along with the others, he’s often dragged into their situations. In the first episode, when he joins the daycare, he spends almost the entire time staring at a book. He mainly did it because he was waiting for his brother to read to him. He’s close with his brother and seems fixated on helping him when he can. One specific episode has him attempt to travel around the high school alone to bring his brother his lunch, that he left behind. Just curious what you’d think. There’s tons of compilations with him. He’s a popular character 😅
Lilo from Lilo and Stich...if this "live action" Lilo & Stich is a real thing, I hope in addition to the racism scene that was deleted from the original for time, they also have Lilo be diagnosed as autistic. No impact on the plot, the social worker can mention to Nani, "You do know she is autistic, blah blah blah" Or Nani can bring it up with the social worker. Maybe he could be Lilo's therapist too? A lot of therapists have social work degrees.
@@KMD-o8x True. They don't know how to hint and focus on the real plot. They have to make it obvious the character is of a non white race, disabled or LGBTQ+. Not that there's anything wrong with those things. But when I watch a Disney movie, I want the plot to actually tell a story.
if you havent already, i HIGHLY reccomend fairly oddparents: a new wish for this series, the protagonist - hazel wells - is SO unintentionally written as autistic but really good representation imo, two whole episodes about her special interests, the first episode and another one establishes she doesnt like change and finds it stressful, her faries are disguised as fidget toys too
Adding on to Stanford from gravity falls, I've also seen some discussion on either Dipper also being autistic and Stan and/or Mabel having ADHD or autism really running in the family and all of them being autistic (albeit different flavors so to speak).
I'm pretty sure Twilight Sparkle and maybe even Pinkie Pie are coded if not on the spectrum. Twilight is the more traditional bookish nerd type of Autistic and has levels of OCD, while Pinkie feels Audhd with how excitible and hyper focued she gets, and has a mix of being oblivious to things outside her interests, but also has times where she'll realize things even before Twilight. Now that I think about it Fluttershy also might be coded, as she's certainly a ball of anixity, something that comes with autism in my experience, and shows traits such as not liking loud noises and such. So that's half the main cast that while not out right stated, might be on the spectrum in different ways.
I really like that you mentioned June. Her character was what sold me on watching. That and Molly’s “enhappifying”. It may not be the funniest or most entertaining show, but the good it puts into the world is kinda hard to ignore IMO.
There is something else I found in Tomori that might stand out. She is actually hyper-fixated on bugs, animals and possibly things fallen to the ground, according to the Bang Dream fandom wiki: "She likes collecting all sorts of things, such as band-aids (especially ones with animals such as pandas or penguins on them), slippery things, just-the-right-size things, and even rocks and fallen leaves that she picks up from the ground. She also likes pill bugs and has been shown often drawing them in her notebooks." However, she was also shown to have sensory sensitivity with her own ways to recover as well from the same Wiki: "She dislikes raw eggs and salmon roe, and feels bad for eating them because they're "full of life"." "Tomori often goes to planetariums and aquariums as a way to calm down when she's bothered or worried about something." Another thing in the wiki states: "She has a tendency to stutter while talking and not make eye contact. She also tends to blame herself for the conflicts that happen around her, even if they weren't caused by her." could be autistic traits as well. They can be seen in the anime and the game but they have official art to show Tomori's interest sometimes. I hope this helps since I am a Bang dream fanatic😅
Interesting! Yeah Tomori was a surprising layered autistic character. Japan doesn't have enough of em in their media imo, because neurodiversity and mental health is really not catered to much at all in Japan. The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are Okabe from Stein;Gate, L from Death Note and Mob from Mob Psycho 100
I recommend cyn from murder drones, as an autistic person even though it isn’t confirmed (I think) I see a lot of traits in her even if she’s a murderous robot, she is always outcasted from the other robots and Tessa for being “different” and she doesn’t understand why (not understanding a lot of cues or emotions of other people) hell they even lock her in a basement because they see her as a nuisance and with Tessa’s parents wanting her gone. She narrates her emotions or actions (since autistic people sometimes cannot properly express the emotions their feeling) if she’s sarcastic she has to say it since it may come off as genuine (sometimes phrasing things wrong and not understanding why it’s a huge deal) she is literally a “defective” robot and the only drone who was nice enough to hang out with her was N and always wanting cyn to not want to hang out with others since it would resolve in her being rejected and upset even though cyn just wants to fit in. I could go on and on but I’m just gonna stop there.
with Jack from Bluey... you should see his friend Rusty, for me, Rusty is autistic. He has a huge hyperfixation with the military and cricket. . . Other characters from anime, for me are Laios, his sister Falin and his father, from the anime Dungeon Meshi. All three have so many autistic traits, I'm surprised they aren't. Laios has a great hyperfixation with monsters, he has social problems, he often says and does things that are out of place for others, he has had a hard time fitting into groups He has official extras where it is shown that he does not like some textures in his clothes, he is a bit clumsy motorically and has a hard time reading social environments. Her sister is the same, besides that she has an innate power for magic, which made those around her fear her, she had a hard time making friends at the school she was sent, making her escape a lot to a safe place, until she met Marcille and they became friends, Falin shared her hyperfixations of magic and monsters, bringing her gifts of things she found, without reading the environment Marcille was in, which was not always the right one to be playing around. . The father of both is mentioned more in the extras, but, even so, he is the leader of the town where both were born, a man who people see as cool-headed, He has a hard time expressing himself. He is direct, blunt and often fails to convey what he really thinks, which has made people distance themselves from him in an affectionate way. His hyperfixation was hunting and his way of sharing that with his children was letting them choose hunting puppies, every year, a tradition that all three enjoyed. But his communication problems also brought him problems with his family, especially with Laios, who needs more direct guidance. When Falin showed an innate power for magic, he didn't know what to do, he didn't want her to hurt herself or someone else accidentally, So he consulted with a gnome who told him to enroll her in a magic school, where she could be properly guided... But instead of telling his family that, he just said that Falin would be sent away, which made Laios angry with him and run away from home Falin hopes that one day they can clear things up.
From watching this show with my wife, I think the school that Bluey goes to is mostly for those with ND. Considering Bluey has somewhat of ADHD behaviour as well as her classmates exhibiting somewhat similar behaviours. I think that's the reason why her sister Bingo goes to a different school. It's never explicit in it tho, outside of the Jack episode, but just a sort of observation my wife and I have made watching it with our kid. Not really sure if Waldorf schools (kinda like montessori, but the type of school Bluey is at) caters specifically to ND individuals but just something we noticed.
OMG YES I SCREAMED WHEN I SAW THAT JACK OBVIOUSLY HAD ADHD AND I MADE THE CONCLUSION THAT RUSTY IS AUTISTIC (and so is bluey, I mean, have you seen the movie theater episode?) I have a hyper fixation on bluey lol
Yeah I watched Dungeon Meshi with my fiance (who is autistic) and the whole time I thought yeah Laios is probably autistic and I can see why my partner likes that character so much. And then there was that scene where he goes off on Shuro for not being more direct with him because Laios doesn't hide from his friends that he's bad with social cues and that whole scene really made me feel that it's not just coding or headcanon. That frustration that someone else just assumed he would "get it" and resented him when he didn't. It was a super well done scene.
Alhaitham from Genshin Impact is extremely autistic coded. He wears noise canceling headphones since everything is loud to him, he’s extremely literal and prefers to say what’s on his mind rather than sugarcoat things, he has different ideas about what people share to each other (when he trusts you enough, he tells you he does when he’s off work rather than his own personal opinions about things because he thought that’s something more worthwhile to share to friends), he drops everything to start reading whenever he feels like it… His roommate even describes that while other people might not think he has a personality, in reality, he actually has “too big of a personality” behind closed doors. The real nails in the coffin are when he’s in a *literal desert,* he gets more concerned about sand in his boots than the fact that he’s in a desert and the fact that he hates eating soup because it’s too messy to eat while he reads. I really suggest you look him up! He’s seriously cool!
Some of my favorite autistic coded characters are Mabel from gravity Falls (+adhd as well ) , Bmo from adventure Time , Alice from Alice in wonderland, oscar from summer camp island, and also Edward from Edward Scissorhands I watched it recently and it was absolutely heartbreaking but I relate to him so much just his mannerisms and how he coordinates himself in a room I think it’s very reminiscent of how I as an autistic person act in unfamiliar environments and the way he’s always moving his fingers a little bit and hold his arms close to his chest and I think the story is very much like an allegory for autism
Character Suggestions (all of these suggestions are just of characters that are autistic coded not confirmed): - Majority of the cast of Project Sekai (video game) - Hitori Gotoh "Bocchi" from Bocchi the rock (anime) - the 3 main characters of Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! (anime) - Laios Touden - Dugeon Meshi (anime) - Sulleta Mercury from Mobile Suite Gundam the Witch from Mercury (anime)
@@spontaneouslycombusted7664 yea 💀i said majority because the virtual singers don't count. yea i can also see Rui because of his hyperfixations of making robots.
Although Tomori is hyperfixated on bands (she also doesn't play guitar or is hyperfixated on it, as she is the main vocalist), her main hyperfixations are band-aids, penguins, pillbugs, and writing. She was sort of dragged into the whole band thing by another friend of hers named Sakiko who wanted to start a band before MyGO!!!!! was created and to give Tomori a creative outlet for her writing. Tomori is also not really adept to social cues, avoids eye contact, like you said, and she can be a bit nonverbal at times (correct me if I'm wrong. I'm actually not autistic, but I know and have been around people that are), even as a child. The only flaw is that she does get infantilized by her friend Taki, who only appreciated Tomori at first, due to her being a good songwriter and sort of becomes her bodyguard of sorts. I'd suggest you give BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! another watch and especially pay attention to Episode 3 where most of the episode is from Tomori's point of view. Thanks for featuring Tomori, though! 😊
So, I wouldn't say Tomori is nonverbal at all, because from what I saw, she does communicate just fine with the other girls, she's just rather shy in various situations, kinda like how I myself can be. Nonverbal autism generally refers to when an individual cannot actually speak and must use other methods of communication for those around them, usually sound based. I'd recommend watching the Pixar short loop if you want to learn more, since I recently reviewed that in a different video
One character ive always believed to have autism is Rina Tennoji from Love Live!: Nijigasaki School Idol Club. It's never confirmed, but there are implications left in her character story that imply that she is, especially in the anime. She isn't very good at communicating her emotions, but she tries her best using either a sketchbook with different pages that have different facial expressions or an electronic board she developed herself that can make rhe expressions. She's also interested in computers and electronics. This is a little different in the anime (similar story, but it's adjusted heavily because the game included 2 other groups and the anime is mainly just Nijigasaki. And also, it puts a new character in place of the player), because the autism implications are expanded upon. They also gave her a 3rd form of communication, an OC character mainly for online videos and stage videos for when she's performing. Also, the boards come in later. Before that, she tenses up when she has to speak unless she knows Ai Miyashita is with her.
A suggestion I'd recommend is Tina Belcher from Bob's Burgers, especially with the two-parter at the end of series 12, which resonated with me and someone who's autstic. In fact, most of the family have some autistic coding even if they're never explicitly states as such.
6:38 Hi, professional bandori (BanG Dream!) brainrot here not to 🤓☝ anyone but i’d like to make clear why i think tomori was suggested for this video. the preface of bang dream it’s my go is about a band called CRYCHIC that consisted of the members tomori, taki, soyo, mutsumi, and sakiko. it ended up falling apart for reasons unclear to the audience (but it was sakiko’s fault), and the anime starts while these characters are still recuperating. it’s made clear that tomori has always been different from others in addition to being shy and soft spoken, and she takes a huge interest in stars, insects, and collecting things such as rocks and bandaids. her collections are portrayed as her hyperfixation, because when another character, anon, even slightly mentions her penguin bandaid collection, she yaps about it a ton singing has never really been something tomori has been interested in especially, but she’ll do it if she has a reason to. anyway just wanted to clear that up, go watch mygo please it’s a really good anime even if you haven’t seen the rest of bandori, and always remember that tomori is pookie
I'd love to see you do a video on autistic characters in anime/manga if that's alright with you. While I'm not autistic, I think it would be interesting to see a video on how autism is represented in Japan. For anime: Mob Psycho 100 (There's Mob/Shigeo Kageyama, the main character, but other characters can be autistic as well, like Serizawa) Ayumu Kasuga/Osaka from Azumanga Daioh (Osaka can be forgetful and distracted easily) Violet from Violet Evergarden (can be coded as autistic since she take things literally and has a hard time understanding emotions) Mashle: Magic and Muscles (autistic coded, Mashle is super obsessed with cream puffs, but he's also super strong) Haikyuu (Hinata or Kageyama could be autistic from their hyper fixation on volleyball) Dungeon Meshi (Laios has a hyper fixation on monsters. He's aware of how he acts and tries to "mask" but is unsuccessful) Honorable mentions: One Piece (probably the entire straw hat crew, but idk if you want to watch over 1000 episodes), Saiki from Saiki K, Haruhi from Ouran High School Host Club, Yui from K-ON, Yua Serufu from Do It Yourself, Erika from Heartcatch Precure, the 3 main girls from Keep Your Hands Off of Eizoken, and Senku from Dr. Stone (also aroace) For manga: There's a manga called My Brain is Different: Stories of ADHD and Other Developmental Disorders, which I believe is autobiographical. That's My Atypical Girl (or Asper Girl) follows a autistic girl who is struggling with mental health issues. I will preface that this manga is very dark and include very heavy topics such as self harm, abuse, depression, and bullying. With the Light: Raising an Autistic Child - as the title suggests, this manga follows a mother learning that her child is autistic. I will say that this manga's also pretty dark and possibly dated(?) The mother, as well as the other family, isn't the best with caring for her son. But they slowly change over time to accept the son as he is. Space Walking with You (Keisuke Uno can be heavily autistic coded) Honorable mentions: Asa Mitaka from Chainsaw Man (autistic coded, is very informative when it comes to sea creatures) Apologies if the list is too long.
Hello, I am newly diagnosed autistic and I'm really enjoying your videos. So I have three suggestions to look at. The first is Carmy from the show The Bear. My second nomination is from a musical. Not sure if you like musicals but this is not your typal musical and it's available for free right here on RUclips. It's an original story for adult audiences from the group Team Starkid. It's called The Guy Who Doesn't Like Musicals and the lead character Paul. This is also a good one for Halloween. Finally the one I relate to the most is Joel from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which I believe is on Netflix right now. This is my second favorite movie of all time and now that I have become aware of autistic traits and have been diagnosed I see why this character means so much to me. So those are my three, would love to see what you think.
Cherry from the anime movie words bubble up like soda pop on Netflix. It’s a BIG personal head canon for me. He wears headphones to block out noise (relatable for me :]) has a hyperfixation on Haikus, and is socially awkward to name a few.
I just remembered that there is a canonical autistic character in the visual novel “Our Life: Beginnings and Always” he is the main and only love interest in the base game. His diagnosis is even brought up in game which is (unfortunately) kinda rare in games.
This one is a character a lot of people disagree with me on, but I feel Nadeshiko Kagamihara from my favorite anime, Yuru Camp, while not canonically autistic, I do think there are some autistic-coded traits, combined with ADHD I personally see. -A clear hyper fixation (s), in this case, camping, as well as cooking, and Mount Fuji. -Overly enthusiastic and emotional. (The Christmas Camping episode to me is a good example of this, when she gets a little emotional after not having propane to cook.) Now… A lot of this comes from my own perspective, as I saw a lot of myself in her, as someone who has a combo ASD and ADHD. I actually posted my thoughts on the Yuru Camp subreddit sometime back, but it was shot down by a lot of folks because people didn’t quite see my perspective. You definitely don’t have to agree with me here, as me saying Nadeshiko being ASD and ADHD comes from being able to connect my own personal experiences with hers.
I haven't seen the Netflix show, but when I read The Queen's Gambit, I related a lot with the protagonist Beth. Of course, it's never mentioned she's autistic, but she's very hyperfixated on chess and she's shown to be quite independent from a young age, but she can also pass as cold hearted to many people even though she cares and loves many of them, but struggles in how to express her feelings. Not sure if you'll ever talk about it since both the novel and the show are very much not for kids, but at least I like seeing autistic problems in other stages of life, not just childhood.
I don't know if you're offended by the idea of a villain bring autistic. But I found the Riddler from the movie The Batman is a pretty decent representation of someone with Autism even though he's evil. And personally I don't think people should be afraid of writing a villain with Autism. As someone with Autism myself I don't think we need to be pandered to, like you don't need to portray autistic people as precious "brave" little flowers. Honestly portraying autistic people as precious little flowers who never mean to hurt anyone I personally find more offensive than the idea of an autistic villain. We're no different than anyone else and should be portrayed as such. And YEAH we can be bad of we want just like anyone else.
Personally, I never saw Milo as autistic. Maybe it’s just because I hate the idea of “autism = good with techz and is SUUUPER smatrz”. I feel like it’s a really pressuring and awful stereotype, and if we look at Milo as autistic, he’d fit that perfectly. I perfectly understand if other people see themselves in him, that’s great, but as an autistic person myself, I always thought he was just a goofy lil’ nerd.
A kind of spark (literally about autistic people played by autistic people) Philip from kamen rider dpuble (japanese superhero show), very audhd coded and hyperfixates. Some pretty cure characters are asd coded (mayu nekoyashiki and himarisugawa especially) Gus from tracy beaker returns Quinni from heartbreak high (chloe hayden is also audhd)
hi, autistic male here! here are some characters i headcanon as autistic that i want you to check out: Millie (Total Drama Island Reboot) - lots of fans headcanon her as autistic and i can see why. She has trouble with social cues, trouble making friends, is pretty smart and gets really excited when she makes her first friend. Raj (Total Drama Island Reboot) - fans also headcanon Raj as being autistic. He, along with his best friend Wayne, hyperfixate on hockey, hockey stats and players, etc. Raj is also very excitable when talking about something he loves. whether being hockru or his eventual boyfriend Bowie. Shoyo Hinata (Haikyu!!) - I headcanon him as autistic because i actually relate to him. originally he never showed interest in volleyball, but after seeing a game from a national tournament featuring a star player that was short like him, he made it his life's goal to be just like him...despite never playing beforehand. he hyperfixates on volleyball, the feelings associated with playing the game and even the scents in a volleyball gym.
Oh my god another autistic millie truther!! and autistic raj is something i agree with!! i personally also headcanon mk and julia (the julia one probably may need explanation but luckily i have it written down somewhere)
Have you analyzed Meet the Robinsons yet? Wilbur is the closest to a neurotypical that anyone in that family gets. Even the robot has an anxiety disorder.
@@noahthe0tterOne of the aunts is absolutely obsessed with trains and even collects them- not model trains, the real freakin things! XD It had to be intentional.
In my opinion Ingo and Emmet from the Pokémon franchise are both incredible autism representation, which is funny because Gamefreak definitely didn’t make these guys autistic on purpose, the stars just kinda aligned I guess
sugestions (headcannons) komugi inukai/cure wonderful from wonderful precure bluey from bluey astroboy/atom and dr umatarou tenma from astroboy kana and buruburu from go! anpanman (black nose and the magical song and buruburu’s big tresure huting adventure respectively)
A lot of people headcanon Duck from Thomas and Friends as autistic. He's very blunt, often coming off as rude, he has a little mantra in the form of his "Great Western Way" schtick, and he has a hyperfixation for the Regatta and the ocean in general.
Someone mentioned Bluey so i should add: some view Chloe's dad Frank as autistic due to how he acts in the episode "Octopus". I haven't seen the episode in a while nor do i recall all the evidence, but i do know i've seen it pointed out that he has a somewhat flat voice and he struggles to grasp the imaginative play his daughter wants to do in the episode.
if you're still taking suggestions, i'd say Quinni from Heartbreak high (2022) (there's a 90s version but its completely different and imo worse). she's canonically stated to be autistic and is also part of the main cast, i like that the show especially in season 2 allows Quinni to be flawed and have multiple arcs (in season 2 she has an arc of trying to unmask but has masked so much she doesn't really know how to properly unmask anymore and its one of the only pieces of media i've seen that tackles this) it also shows different aspects of autism, like how sometimes having a special interest can be exhausting and negatively and positively affect you and also shows her having a meltdown after having a sensory overload where this is actually treated respectfully by the characters. season 3 isn't out yet but i can't wait too see what they do with her in it.
Once again I will not rest until my girl Hazel gets the respect she deserves from this channel. So what if her autism isn’t technically canon? It’s pretty damn close to canon and that’s what matters to me. And by the way, I apologize if I’m coming off as an annoying stan over this; it just needs to be discussed more, especially since the New Wish staff is too cowardly to do so
@@noahthe0tter I mentioned it before but she’s the main character of Fairly OddParents A New Wish. The reason I’m pushing her so much is because I think it says something for her to exhibit almost every single major trait of autism only for the showrunner - who, by the way, is her *voice actress* - to not fully commit to it by confirming what everyone can see as incredibly apparent: The fact that she’s autistic, something that would’ve made her a walking punchline in the original show. I think it’s a genuinely interesting case study not just of her character but also what happens when creatives don’t want to admit something even if it’s blatantly obvious
A character i highly suggest and because his voice actor just happened to confirm it, Spongebob. Also, Big the Cat from Sonic shows a few signs of autism too
there's Midori Asakusa from "Keep your hands of Eizouken!" whom the creator confirmed that is based on his autism and ADHD. there's also Laios Touden from Dungeon Meshi who's so autistic coded that even the Japanese fans speculate it. also so many people say that Mashiro Shiina from Sakurasou is autistic since she has poor social skills, is very rigid and can't take basic care of herself. also I headcanon Rui Kamishiro from project sekai and a lot of my hero academia characters (especially Midoriya, Shoto, Tenya, Tsuyu and Aoyama) as autistic so here's it.
a few suggestions from me! all these characters are from the game ensemble stars, which also has an anime, but some of the characters here are not in it. souma kanzaki hiiro amagi eichi tenshouin wataru hibiki aira shiratori chiaki morisawa shinobu sengoku shu itsuki, who also has osdd hokuto hidaka kanata shinkai nagisa ran kanna natsu and sora harukawa, who also has synesthesia! enstars is funny, i think they try and make the characters quirky and unique, but in turn they just end up being autistic. if i could add them all here, i would, but these are just the ones where i believe it is the most prominent. not to say others aren't, but you'd definitely have to know more about them in order to spot it. autism wars if you will /j also i'm autistic and my special interest is enstars so if anyone wants to know why these characters are autistic to me please ask i would love to share
OMGGGGGG YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS !!!!!! YOU'RE SO REAL FOR THAT :D !! i'm specifically fixated on shu itsuki being autistic !! he's my favorite characterrrr
Kinger from tadc is autistic and you can’t tell me otherwise -interest in insects -gets easily startled -tends to be in his own world -hides way in a pillow fort
Here are more suggestions of autistic characters to discuss: -Miyo Sasaki from A Whisker Away -Ord from Dragon Tales -Tolee from Ni Hao Kai Lan -Sean from Fancy Nancy -Shouko Komi from Komi Can’t Communicate
I recommend watching Pieces of Powder, it's a new indie animated show right here on RUclips. It's a slice-of-life show about a group of teenagers navigating high school, and mental health is a pretty big theme in it. The first episode is about the main character, Powder, trying to make a new friend, and honestly she was very neurodivergent coded to me. It's an awesome episode and I really recommend you watch it :)
One of the candidates that you can include in any of your upcoming videos of autistic characters in different media would be Butters from the sitcom South Park. He has some of the characteristics that almost make him autistic coded, He cant handle his own emotions, even words with figurative language are taken literally by him like when Wendy told him that he's an asshole, hes innocent and naive, he is too smart, and always has his interests high, like when he tried to make friends with a priest, when helps Cartman, he is very sussesful in talents like dance, music instruments, and bussiness, and also has small stims like when he plays with his hands or sings his "Loo loo loo" song, and often, his classmates see him like a weirdo. I'll leave the comment here in case you want to take it.
Love the video! If you ever do a video autistic head cannons I'd like you to check out Clancee from Ninjago, while he's not officially confirmed to be Autistic I do see a lot of Autistic traits in him that they probably wrote into him by accident (though it might just be me projecting). I put this on another person's video but I'm going to put it here because I think it gets my points across well: "(...) He is a sweet and endearing character. He is shown in the show and books to enjoy cleaning, however is quite shy and stammers a lot in conversation. However, it's shown in the books and show that he can be quite talkative about cleaning or discussing how his crew members ended up in the crew, indicating that's his special interest (He also gives objects names, which is so cute!). He also is shown to have some problems with Anxiety, but is still able to stand up for himself, which is extremely relatable to me and I wish I could stand up to myself more. (...) He is treated like any normal person would and is in fact loved by his crew and the people around him, (...)" Also I just wanted to add that he might have high amounts of Empathy, though I also have high amounts of Empathy, so maybe I'm just projecting again. Sorry I put this here of all places, Ninjago is just my obsession and Clancee is one of my favourite characters in that show and since this channel is about Autistic representation so I rambled a bit. Keep up the good work!
@@noahthe0tter OMG Thank you! He's in the sixth season so you might just want to watch that. I could just be projecting into him, but I ironically relate to him more than actual autistic characters, but maybe that's just because I have a strong emotional connection to Ninjago and Clancee. XD
@@genericartist3553 Since Lego is one of the common special interests for people with autism, makes a lot of sense why we can probably see autism/ADHD traits in every Lego guy possible, ya got Emmet over here who desires to fit in with others, acting the same as everyone else just to be accepted by society (even when he is now being himself in the sequel, society and the universe itself will not give this poor guy a break), stims constantly (this applies to folks not on the spectrum too :3), gets distracted like 24/7, plus lack of social cues such as him taking Lucy's words literally at the saloon. Benny's entire hyperfixation on spaceships speaks for itself, and MK literally had an episode about focusing.
@@sneakydeechey7210 I know, I don't mean to say every lego character is neurodivergent, I was just exaggerating on that for effect, yeah sorry about the wording there 😅 I should have just said "some" instead of "every lego character has autism".
1:16 correction: max actually appears in another episode on the show called: 507b - Daniel and Max Play at the Playground. He also appears later in this episode. It’s called: 506b - A New Friend at the Clock Factory
Some anime characters who seem autistic to me are: Mitsumi from Skip and Loafer - I've never seen poor social skills being so well-written before, and I only watched episode 1 and 2 so far. She excels in studies, but is rather bad at knowing what to do in social situations, frequently masking because of this and is also shown to be naively trusting to others, but not in a childish way. She also likes to methodically plan her life, both dreams and social interactions. Bea from Pokémon Journeys (only this version of her) - Hyperfixation on battles, to the point she remember's the main character's pokémon used on battle but not the main character's name. She's so blunt that people thought she was saying mean things about someone who is actually her friend. Oleana from Twilight Wings (only this version of her) - She is hyperfixated on her research, giving a lot of importance to tiny differences, like going to the 9th number after the point. She always has a serious face and she infodumps a lot about the things she cares about. Dot from Pokémon Horizons - Doesn't like living her room. Has trouble socializing and doesn't really like it. Has food selectivity. Uninterested on things she's not hyperfixated on. Has sensory issues with clothes and temperature. Poor gross motor skills (might be because of sedentary life, but then it could be indirectly caused by autism).
These aren’t actually confirmed but here are some characters that I relate to Branch from Trolls Larry The Cucumber from Veggietales Bobby from The Casagrandes Mirabel and Bruno from Encanto
@@noahthe0tter I personally have always seen him as AuDHD because he has high energy and in the episode The League Of Incredible Vegetables there is a part where he gets sensory overload (it’s on RUclips if you search the episode) and he can take things literally and doesn’t always get social cues this clip kinda shows that➡️ (ruclips.net/video/YwWdHzAQBnQ/видео.htmlsi=oph0KuSuSHb5K9Mh)
The ghost and Molly McGee may not be as funny as some other favorites of mine like Phineas and Ferb, but Molly’s “enhappifying” spirit and the character of June were what sold the show for me.
If you're willing to look at literature, there's some characters from Brandon Sanderson's work that are worth looking at, particularly Steris, from Mistborn era 2.
@@avwillis5269 I love Renarin. He makes me so happy. There’s so many tiny perfect things that Brandon does with his character, like Rock giving him a ball of dough to fidget with, or Renarin referring to background noise as “buzzing.” It’s really clear that he actually talked (and listened) to autistic people while making the character, and I’m happy every time he’s in a scene. (I’m only a few chapters into Rhythm of War so please don’t spoil anything)
Might be a harder thing to talk about because the franchise is so big, but if you wanna dig for it theirs a good amount autistic Batman content out there. Most universal being anti social behavior, strong sense of justice, and obsessive planning but certain media focuses more on certain traits than other. I'm a big fan of the idea of Batman being his true self and Bruce Wayne being the "persona" where you can interpret him being Bruce Wayne as him masking (ironically). There's also a really good tumblr blog that goes into Batman having OCD that fits into it well.
This could honestly be a whole video in itself true. I have talked about Batman and psychology a bit before, but Batman and autism is a really good angle actually. Thanks for this idea
My personal autism headcanons - Radical Edward from Cowboy Bebop - Princess Bubblegum, Neddy, Lemongrab, Lemonhope, the whole cast tbh from Adventure Time - Yotasuke Takahashi from Blue Period - Ryuu from Snow White with Red Hair - Anna Sasaki from When Marnie was there (its a ghibli movie!) - Newt Scamander from Fantastic beasts and where to find them (you dont need to watch the harry potter franchise to watch these movies) - Riche from Witch Hat Atelier (anime will come out soon, but i recommend the manga, its brilliant!) - Winnie the pooh
I'm so happy to see Marcy here! I relate to her a lot (as well as that scene you mentioned, I've... had that happen a few times) I'd also recommend TOH! You could make a case for nearly the entire cast for being neurodivergent but hunter in particular feels autistic.
One of my absolute favorite animes is Big Windup (Ookiku Furikabutte or Oofuri for short). I didn't realize that the two main characters are probably meant to be autistic until recently (thanks to other fans on Tumblr), but back when I first watched it 15 years ago, I knew that I related to it in a way that I never related to anything or any characters before. It's a sports anime about baseball (but really more about relationships) and the two main characters (the pitcher and the catcher) display different combinations of autistic traits. The show is mainly about their relationship with each other, themselves, and their teammates. So understated and excellently executed in my opinion!
…I got into Inanimate Insanity since we’ve last spoke. It’s so good! And it has the character that was so coded the creators had to come out to say it wasn’t the intention but Fan can be seen as autistic. Fan cameos in season 1 but makes his true debut in season 2 as a literal fanboy who is knowledgeable of everything about the show due to his love for it and takes pride in learning all there is to it like shrugging off being punched by Paintbrush because he was busy making note of a new “cliche” happening or acting like a narrator for the show to cope during “traumatic times” as seen in S3 ep 1 and S2 ep 17. He can often be seen either flailing his arms up and down or fiddling with his equipment when either really excited or nervous which could be seen as him stimming. He’s incredibly empathetic but has no filter and can either be seen as being too blunt or having to backtrack his words at times because they didn’t come off as how he intended them. This is also true in his actions as he can sometimes tunnel vision on stuff especially if they equal to his interests which can get him in trouble such as when he upset his friend by making a “spin the wheel” over what their companion was gonna vent about because he was “analyzing character interactions” or when he stole one of Cabby’s files because she had one about him which he also saw as outdated, upsetting her further since he didn’t understand how much her files meant to her. Basically he’s very clever but can’t read a room to save his life. Along with this his major arc in season 2 is that he’s afraid of things changing whether it be the show, his routine, or just himself. He doesn’t help often if the show initially because he’s just used to being a spectator instead of a player and later because he believes he doesn’t have because he feels everything runs on a pattern. He relies heavily on these patterns and when things don’t go the way he saw them going he is shown to get incredibly agitated. Though initially seen as humorous, episode 13 is when this all gets major focus and shows how it genuinely impacts him. While trying to solve the mysteries of the game, Suitcase nudges him to vent about himself instead which he reluctantly does. He admits it’s easier to talk about other things like his interests and finds it hard to talk about himself to the point of writing down what he wants to say in the notes app because he struggles to verbalize it. He projects his feelings into an alien egg he found, talking about how he doesn’t “want it to have to hatch” and that it be better for it to stay secure in a protective shell for it can “have its patterns.” And while it is something he still can have issues with he eventually learns he has to let some things go and be okay with changes. Although several characters scream neurodivergent. Some say Apple, some say Yin Yang, some say Lightbulb. But most say Fan
I found a video compiling all his autistic traits if needed, or I recommend the episodes 8, 10, 11, 13, and 14 of season two and the beginning of episode 1 for season 3 as those show his traits best
If you can make a part 4 maybe you can mention about Droners Corto is very Autistic, she very focus on the winning the race, and she very hyper active plus she has many friends, and she save the island. That could happen some time for it
I know that I did mention Duck the Great Western Engine being autistic in the comments from a past video but I want to explain his symptoms. As I gotta warn you, it’s a long one. He tends to have repetitive language (a big example would be “the great western way”), black and white thinking; over explaining; impulsiveness; blunt; be very smart as he knows to use his old slip coaches by ease even though the last time was decades ago; get easily distressed even when it’s from something minor (such as when Donald told him that he need to “lay an egg”); gets uncomfortable during unfamiliar situations (seen in the railway series); talk non stop without realizing; trouble with cognitive and emotional empathy; hyper compassionate empathetic (seen in magazine stories); issues with controlling his emotions; special interests (such as the regatta); trouble pronouncing some big or complex words (such as “revolutionary”); doesn’t always understand figures of speech; takes things too literally (seen in magazine stories); trouble accepting if someone has a different opinion than him (seen in the railway series); his pitch, tone, and volume would sometimes randomly change when he talks in the cgi series; speak in a sing-song voice, again in the cgi series; wants to do things the correct way and to finish them on them as if someone made him mess up, he would be very upset; sensitive to strong smells, cold water touching him, hard rain touching his face to the point where he can’t see, and high-pitched singing; and have a meltdown which caused him, Thomas, and Harold to be stuck in the tunnel after Thomas tricked him.
I have a suggestion, Gus from the Preschool series Lu And The Bally Bunch! He’s a greenfly who doesn’t like loud sounds. And likes to follow rules! I think you should check that show out! It’s for Cartoon Network’s Preschool block Cartoonito.
Shigeo Kageyama from the anime Mob Psycho 100 is really good autistic representation even though it is never out right stated that he's autistic He usually is pretty neutral, doesn't show a lot of emotions. But emotions built up and when he reaches his limit, he reaches 100% and his psychic powers go wild, the majority of the fandom sees this as a parallel to meltdowns. There is also the very strong moral code he sticks by, sticking to things HE likes despite what people tell him. Flashbacks show him being ostracized by his classmates and making fun of him, which a lot of autistic people go through. Really amazing show!
I hope you do Bluey Heeler from Bluey. Becuase in the episode called The Movie, Bluey had a be fear of thunder and she had to hold her ears for loud sound.
It's weird how under represented AuDHD is compared to just autism considering the fact that most autistic people also have ADHD
As far as autistic representation in anime.
There are a few that come to mind
L from death note
Senku from dr stone
Hibiki from the anime movie bubble
Shiegeo Kageyama from Mob pyscho 100
And there’s the manga, With the light: Raisung an Autistic Child.
The manga is about a mom raising her son with autism. It is shows what it is like to be autistic in Japan
Thanks for these suggestions!
omg yessssssss hibiki
There's also Kamille Bidan, the protagonist of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, who says he's autistic in one episode (can't remember the number). Apparently this got taken out in the english dub and replaced with "neurotic", though. Amuro Ray from the preceding Gundam series (the first one in fact), is also a pretty good autistic-coded character who I relate to a lot.
I could think of many headcanons, but not many canon
I love him, i like that he just a himbo like many other freds he is someone who deeply fixates on traps and can sometimes miss social clues.
Glad someone mentioned Fred Jones here
If you’re still taking suggestions, I _highly_ recommend the movie ‘The Mitchells Vs the Machines’.
I find it incredible that people can recognize other autistic characters without having a degree in psychology ngl
@@ElfandePou-cb9bm the vibes (and traits) are pretty recognizable when you live with them 24/7.
One of my closest friends, who is autistic, had guessed I was autistic years before I told her I had started the process of getting diagnosed. She was totally unsurprised when I told her.
@@thatonepossum5766 Ooooooh now all makes sense
That whole damn family is autistic, but most VISIBLY, the brother.
@thatonepossum5766 people assume I'm either autistic or an asshole.
I am not an asshole, so maybe I'm autistic lol. I DO have ADHD inattentive type, but also I'm a woman, so when I tried to get diagnosed it was basically "you have 90% of the criteria, but because you make eye contact and understand metaphors, you're not autistic."
Uh sorry, but masking?!
Yesss
Even if she's hyperfixated on her own stuff she manages social situations way too well so I do have my doubts

OH MY GOOOD I LOVE HERRRR she's my fav character, she's so autism coded x) !!!
So happy to see you got to talk about Tomori!! 😭
As someone with autism who loves Molly McGee, June is the greatest character in fiction.
Don’t convince me otherwise, I’m dying on this hill.
She’s an icon 💅🏻
I wouldn't call her the greatest (might be because I'm currently hyperfixated on Twyla from Monster High) but June is still amazing (。♥‿♥。)
the thing about ford is that he doesn't just "act smart", diverting him from stereotypes. he obviously isn't just good at the stuff he works on, he actually loves it and enjoys talking about it, some bad "smart" repersentations ive seen just make the autistic characters act like their just good at it and dont even enjoy it, like more of just the pet peeve side instead of the "i love this thing and would die for it" side. i genuinely relate to ford because ive always loved math and have exceeded in it. not to mention that i googled it, and it turns out polydactyly can lead to other growth conditions(?) such as autism. he actually acts like an autistic old man and not a "man that hates but is good at math". i mean, he literally summoned a demon just for it to teach him math lol. (i already commented but i felt like saying why i think hes the best representation that isn't exactly stated canon :D)
AJ Gadgets from Hero Elementary
He clearly had autism traits from the start of the show, though it was only revealed in "AJ's Extra Superpower"

Character suggestions:
Luz (the Owl House)
Komi (Komi can’t Communicate)
Usagi (Sailor Moon)
Hiccup (How to Train Your Dragon)

BANDORI MENTIONED? OH MY GOD??
I strongly recommend Peridot and Pearl from Steven Universe, due to them any other person that has watched the show describes their autistic experience with the gem's names, I'm a Pearl for example, as many autistic adults are, most Peridots are definitely today's autistic youth as there is more understanding on the spectrum now. 🤗
When ppl started talking about Peridot headcanon autistic, i was like "oh, but when PEARL has this trait, shes just neurotic"
Idk where my comment went, but i forgot to add that the quote was in sarcasm.
I havent heard of this anime! I will look it up. Thank you!!
@@noahthe0tterAnytime 👍
I thought you were going to talk about Kotaro from Kotaro Lives Alone, who coincidentally is also a very autistic-coded character
I feel like dismey would stretch that out so fucking much instead of just mentioning it
@@KMD-o8x True. They don't know how to hint and focus on the real plot. They have to make it obvious the character is of a non white race, disabled or LGBTQ+. Not that there's anything wrong with those things. But when I watch a Disney movie, I want the plot to actually tell a story.
That was my first thought too TBH
if you havent already, i HIGHLY reccomend fairly oddparents: a new wish for this series, the protagonist - hazel wells - is SO unintentionally written as autistic but really good representation imo, two whole episodes about her special interests, the first episode and another one establishes she doesnt like change and finds it stressful, her faries are disguised as fidget toys too
Adding on to Stanford from gravity falls, I've also seen some discussion on either Dipper also being autistic and Stan and/or Mabel having ADHD or autism really running in the family and all of them being autistic (albeit different flavors so to speak).
She also likes pill bugs and has been shown often drawing them in her notebooks."
However, she was also shown to have sensory sensitivity with her own ways to recover as well from the same Wiki:
"She dislikes raw eggs and salmon roe, and feels bad for eating them because they're "full of life"."
"Tomori often goes to planetariums and aquariums as a way to calm down when she's bothered or worried about something."
Another thing in the wiki states: "She has a tendency to stutter while talking and not make eye contact.
@@noahthe0tter I agree tho
If you want to look for these scenes check out episode five of murder drones since that’s where you see a lot of the autistic signs
with Jack from Bluey... you should see his friend Rusty, for me, Rusty is autistic.
He has a huge hyperfixation with the military and cricket.
.
.
Other characters from anime, for me are Laios, his sister Falin and his father, from the anime Dungeon Meshi.
All three have so many autistic traits, I'm surprised they aren't.
Laios has a great hyperfixation with monsters, he has social problems, he often says and does things that are out of place for others, he has had a hard time fitting into groups
He has official extras where it is shown that he does not like some textures in his clothes, he is a bit clumsy motorically and has a hard time reading social environments.
But instead of telling his family that, he just said that Falin would be sent away, which made Laios angry with him and run away from home
Falin hopes that one day they can clear things up.
Dipper is also very autistic coded imo. And if you're looking for more autistic coded characters Hunter and Gus from The Owl House are both great
Alhaitham from Genshin Impact is extremely autistic coded.
THERE IS A NAME FOR ADHD AND AUTISUM??? NOW I REALLY FEEL VALIDATED
Character Suggestions (all of these suggestions are just of characters that are autistic coded not confirmed):
- Majority of the cast of Project Sekai (video game)
- Hitori Gotoh "Bocchi" from Bocchi the rock (anime)
- the 3 main characters of Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! (anime)
- Laios Touden - Dugeon Meshi (anime)
- Sulleta Mercury from Mobile Suite Gundam the Witch from Mercury (anime)
EVERYBODY IN PJSEKAI 😭😭😭 for me specifically rui stands out the most to me though, especially since hes implied to have sensory issues
6:38 Hi, professional bandori (BanG Dream!) brainrot here
not to 🤓☝ anyone but i’d like to make clear why i think tomori was suggested for this video.
the preface of bang dream it’s my go is about a band called CRYCHIC that consisted of the members tomori, taki, soyo, mutsumi, and sakiko. it ended up falling apart for reasons unclear to the audience (but it was sakiko’s fault), and the anime starts while these characters are still recuperating.
it’s made clear that tomori has always been different from others in addition to being shy and soft spoken, and she takes a huge interest in stars, insects, and collecting things such as rocks and bandaids. her collections are portrayed as her hyperfixation, because when another character, anon, even slightly mentions her penguin bandaid collection, she yaps about it a ton
singing has never really been something tomori has been interested in especially, but she’ll do it if she has a reason to.
anyway just wanted to clear that up, go watch mygo please it’s a really good anime even if you haven’t seen the rest of bandori, and always remember that tomori is pookie
Wow, everything you said is true, I didn't have the chance to watch the anime show MyGO!!!! I watch some of the clips😢
I'd love to see you do a video on autistic characters in anime/manga if that's alright with you. While I'm not autistic, I think it would be interesting to see a video on how autism is represented in Japan.
For anime:
Mob Psycho 100 (There's Mob/Shigeo Kageyama, the main character, but other characters can be autistic as well, like Serizawa)
Ayumu Kasuga/Osaka from Azumanga Daioh (Osaka can be forgetful and distracted easily)
Violet from Violet Evergarden (can be coded as autistic since she take things literally and has a hard time understanding emotions)
Mashle: Magic and Muscles (autistic coded, Mashle is super obsessed with cream puffs, but he's also super strong)
Haikyuu (Hinata or Kageyama could be autistic from their hyper fixation on volleyball)
Dungeon Meshi (Laios has a hyper fixation on monsters. He's aware of how he acts and tries to "mask" but is unsuccessful)
Honorable mentions:
One Piece (probably the entire straw hat crew, but idk if you want to watch over 1000 episodes), Saiki from Saiki K, Haruhi from Ouran High School Host Club, Yui from K-ON, Yua Serufu from Do It Yourself, Erika from Heartcatch Precure, the 3 main girls from Keep Your Hands Off of Eizoken, and Senku from Dr. Stone (also aroace)
For manga:
There's a manga called My Brain is Different: Stories of ADHD and Other Developmental Disorders, which I believe is autobiographical.
Space Walking with You (Keisuke Uno can be heavily autistic coded)
Honorable mentions:
Asa Mitaka from Chainsaw Man (autistic coded, is very informative when it comes to sea creatures)
Apologies if the list is too long.
I don't watch much anime, so I can't really give you any suggestions, but I would be interested in watching a video on autistic characters in anime!
My recommendations for your next video is Tilly Green from Big City Green and Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus.
@@ElisasThoughts Tilly is not autistic.
She’s just country weird
i actually agree with the headcannon that tilly is autistic coded :D ! idk she's just so relatable to me x)
@ sad
Cherry from the anime movie words bubble up like soda pop on Netflix. It’s a BIG personal head canon for me. He wears headphones to block out noise (relatable for me :]) has a hyperfixation on Haikus, and is socially awkward to name a few.
I just remembered that there is a canonical autistic character in the visual novel “Our Life: Beginnings and Always” he is the main and only love interest in the base game.
His diagnosis is even brought up in game which is (unfortunately) kinda rare in games.
Max from Daniel Tiger has actually appeared more than one episode
Shizuru from Re-Life is also amazing autistic representation imo, although it's not explicitly stated that she's autistic.
TOMORI FROM BANGDREAM MYGO MENTIONED! Shes my 2nd fav MyGo member after Taki
This show was suggested a LOT haha, I'd never seen it til now
This one is a character a lot of people disagree with me on, but I feel Nadeshiko Kagamihara from my favorite anime, Yuru Camp, while not canonically autistic, I do think there are some autistic-coded traits, combined with ADHD I personally see.
-A clear hyper fixation (s), in this case, camping, as well as cooking, and Mount Fuji.
-Overly enthusiastic and emotional. (The Christmas Camping episode to me is a good example of this, when she gets a little emotional after not having propane to cook.)
Now… A lot of this comes from my own perspective, as I saw a lot of myself in her, as someone who has a combo ASD and ADHD.
I havent seen The Queen's Gambit! I will have to check it out then. I'd be ok with covering it, my content is not necessarily for children
Tom Kenny himself came out and said SpongeBob SquarePants is on the spectrum. I kid you not, look it up.
A kind of spark (literally about autistic people played by autistic people)
Philip from kamen rider dpuble (japanese superhero show), very audhd coded and hyperfixates.
Some pretty cure characters are asd coded (mayu nekoyashiki and himarisugawa especially)
Gus from tracy beaker returns
Quinni from heartbreak high (chloe hayden is also audhd)
hi, autistic male here!
here are some characters i headcanon as autistic that i want you to check out:
Millie (Total Drama Island Reboot) - lots of fans headcanon her as autistic and i can see why.
Interesting! I never thought of Meet the Robinsons as having an autistic family. I'll have to rewatch it!
@@noahthe0tterOne of the aunts is absolutely obsessed with trains and even collects them- not model trains, the real freakin things! XD It had to be intentional.
In my opinion Ingo and Emmet from the Pokémon franchise are both incredible autism representation, which is funny because Gamefreak definitely didn’t make these guys autistic on purpose, the stars just kinda aligned I guess
sugestions (headcannons)
komugi inukai/cure wonderful from wonderful precure
bluey from bluey
astroboy/atom and dr umatarou tenma from astroboy
kana and buruburu from go! anpanman (black nose and the magical song and buruburu’s big tresure huting adventure respectively)
A lot of people headcanon Duck from Thomas and Friends as autistic.
He's very blunt, often coming off as rude, he has a little mantra in the form of his "Great Western Way" schtick, and he has a hyperfixation for the Regatta and the ocean in general.
MARCY MENTIONED!!!!!!!
def my most relatable and favorite rep.
literally!!! i relate to her so muuuch x)c
As an amphibia fan, it was super cool to Marcy in this video!! :)
Once again I will not rest until my girl Hazel gets the respect she deserves from this channel. So what if her autism isn’t technically canon? It’s pretty damn close to canon and that’s what matters to me. And by the way, I apologize if I’m coming off as an annoying stan over this; it just needs to be discussed more, especially since the New Wish staff is too cowardly to do so
What show is Hazel from? 🙂
I love this series, and I love being introduced to plenty of autistic characters I hadn't heard of before. Glad you covered Tomori!
A character i highly suggest and because his voice actor just happened to confirm it, Spongebob. Also, Big the Cat from Sonic shows a few signs of autism too

TOMORI MENTIONED!!!!! MYGO MENTIONED BANDORI MENTIONED LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!
there's Midori Asakusa from "Keep your hands of Eizouken!" whom the creator confirmed that is based on his autism and ADHD.
there's also Laios Touden from Dungeon Meshi who's so autistic coded that even the Japanese fans speculate it.
also so many people say that Mashiro Shiina from Sakurasou is autistic since she has poor social skills, is very rigid and can't take basic care of herself.
also I headcanon Rui Kamishiro from project sekai and a lot of my hero academia characters (especially Midoriya, Shoto, Tenya, Tsuyu and Aoyama) as autistic so here's it.
Added these to my Letterboxd watchlist! Thanks for the suggestions
When people where calling Daniel tiger a brat I was like tf? Like did you even se the show?

The real autism were the friends we made along the way. I kid, great vid again dude!
Thanks so much Pierre!! I'm really glad you like them 💚💚💚
I think pinkie pie from mlp is autistic not canon sadly but I’m quite sure she is
Oh? I didnt know Pinkie Pie was autistic coded. Added to the list!
Do you think starfire is autistic by that logic?

I suggest Soren from Minecraft Story Mode. He isn’t canonically autistic but he’s very much coded as so because of how he acts in the game
You forgot to mention that June Chen is voiced by Sue Ann Pien who is also autistic.
Ninjago is a surprisingly well done kid's show, I agree! I'll check out Clancee then. Thanks for this suggestion!

Spencer Lionheart from The Lionhearts
Janja from The Lion Guard

Some anime characters who seem autistic to me are:
Mitsumi from Skip and Loafer - I've never seen poor social skills being so well-written before, and I only watched episode 1 and 2 so far.
These aren’t actually confirmed but here are some characters that I relate to
Branch from Trolls
Larry The Cucumber from Veggietales
Bobby from The Casagrandes
Mirabel and Bruno from Encanto
Larry is autistic coded? Interesting! What symptoms do you see in him?
Its a bit of a slow build, but once the characters are in your head, thats it, youre in.
SpongeBob’s voice actor, Tom Kenny has confirmed that SpongeBob himself is on the spectrum.
That's true!
He tried to take that back though.
My personal autism headcanons
- Radical Edward from Cowboy Bebop
- Princess Bubblegum, Neddy, Lemongrab, Lemonhope, the whole cast tbh from Adventure Time
- Yotasuke Takahashi from Blue Period
- Ryuu from Snow White with Red Hair
- Anna Sasaki from When Marnie was there (its a ghibli movie!)
- Newt Scamander from Fantastic beasts and where to find them (you dont need to watch the harry potter franchise to watch these movies)
- Riche from Witch Hat Atelier (anime will come out soon, but i recommend the manga, its brilliant!)
- Winnie the pooh
Ed will be covered in tomorrow's video!
I'm so happy to see Marcy here! I relate to her a lot (as well as that scene you mentioned, I've... had that happen a few times)
I'd also recommend TOH! You could make a case for nearly the entire cast for being neurodivergent but hunter in particular feels autistic.
Another autistic-coded character is Hunter from The Owl House!
Added to the list!
He could have CPTSD, which displays rather similar, but with the sudden interest in sci-fi he developed, they were probably TRYING to code h autistic
If you can make a part 4 maybe you can mention about Droners
Corto is very Autistic, she very focus on the winning the race, and she very hyper active plus she has many friends, and she save the island.
That could happen some time for it
Ah! I've never heard of this actually. Thanks for suggesting this autistic rep!
Shigeo Kageyama from the anime Mob Psycho 100 is really good autistic representation even though it is never out right stated that he's autistic
He usually is pretty neutral, doesn't show a lot of emotions.
No one is saying Branch from Trolls, though. Hes not canon autistic, but dude is definitely autistic, imo.
I hope you do Bluey Heeler from Bluey. Becuase in the episode called The Movie, Bluey had a be fear of thunder and she had to hold her ears for loud sound.
