Man, if those are RGB light strips, you should see if you can wire each individual side to flash with your turn signal. That would be crazy cool. Whole bike lights up red when you hit the brake, hit the right turn signal and the right side flashes red or amber to indicate your turn.
Howdy there You are the second person to suggest this....and I really think this will be a winter project Ill try and tackle and see how it goes. Shouldn't be too hard at all. The more visibility the better.
Hey Dan, actually a great thought… Most folks would not even notice or care to be bothered by such detail, however I was immediately unimpressed when I realized the individual LEDs were reflecting off the frame ( they are just pretty close ) Some diffusion would make this look at least 20% better.
Saw one of these in the metal today for the first time. Was genuinely surprised at how unique (in a good way) it is and the price was surprising too. Very affordable.
Thanks John! So the main plate bracket itself was from Revzilla part number P339165. This wasn't what I originally had in mind, a vertical mount in Cali but went with it for now. As far as the machine screws, spacers and so on unfortunately I cant recall detailed size specs but this was a full metric arrangement. I had to use a 90mm long screw to bring the plate far enough from the sprocket and I used Chrome ( now painted black ) spacers for support. For the secondary support brackets that are midway down the main plate holder, I actually used some custom fan brackets we use in a motion picture dimmers we build. Those are just to fight some of the vibration fatigue on the main 90mm machine screw on the swing arm. Besides that its all high strength nylon nuts, split washers, and fender washers. Sorry I couldn't provide the metric size and more detail! Thanks

Bro super sick setup i will try a few of these things myself just wanted to ask that after removing the rear mudguard does mud not ruin the pillion on rainy day? Side no.plate mount is awesome but i will have to remove mudguard for that
Hey thanks for watching! 100% you will get some kick back of dirt and water that seems to make it right to the face of the taillight, haven’t seen anything reach the topside of the pillion yet. The set up on my bike was to achieve general minimalism and I knew that would come at a cost. Both rear and front fenders are gone, which means no riding in any rain or wet roads of any kind, not even a quick puddle, unless I’m ok with being covered in mud from the front tire. Inclement weather just means I’m back in the car so it works for me. If you enjoy ridding in rainy conditions then I would suggest not removing the fenders or finding an aftermarket fender that’s to your liking. Hope this answers your question have a great day!
Agreed on that. Getting the bar end plugs out was a little bit difficult, possibly because I was prepared for it and under tooled. But once you get those plugs out it’s level 1 easy, couple holes for wires and tap into factory turn wires. Little bit of a learning curve was the positive / neg wire match up. Also anyone doing this on a bike that does not currently have LED turn signals, you will need a LED relay
Thanks! I let the bike sit July - August and just got it back up and on the road. Perfect for zipping around LA and those red lights really help out for sure
Howdy! That would have been interesting…at the time of making this video I was starting to get a taste for minor customization and had thought about starting with LED light kit installs. Never got to a point where I researched how much of a market is there. The light was a reuse from the factory fender. It actually would be a fun project / consideration. I’d most likely work with Send Cut Send for the parts, offer installs in Los Angeles. I would imagine most of the fun would be in coming up with new designs for different models.
@TheDougSpot Well I can certainly point you in the right direction ! Check out Speedmetal Swingarm License Plate Bracket on Revzilla, you’ll just have to get creative with the actual mounting but this is where I started.
For sure was not as easy as expected. The easy part was getting some holes drilled in the bars for running wires, hard part was getting the bar end plugs out that come stock. Had to get some oil and a big drill bit out on one of the stubborn ones. After getting the bar ends out tho it was simple. Highly worth the efforts
Howdy ! That’s a great question. You can indeed have these in that type of set up and many do have this set up in states where they are more strict on glowing lights. There is a lead coming from the the power supply kit that you can connect straight to your brake wire after the break switch, so that when your brake is activated the red light comes on. Without brake activated the lights turn off.
Thanks! Did the full instal myself, this is my third installation and its for sure getting easier. This time was no problem at all. Wire dressing was easy to tuck and hide and gave me an opportunity to clean up some of the factory wire routing which was not taking aesthetics into account to say the least. The longest process of this whole mini custom was removing about 17-20 factory stickers and labels thrown all over the bike....yikes. Thanks for watching !
Hey mate love the mods! Just for the turn signals did you have to drill a bigger hole into the bar? I ordered a pair but they thread in the bar is too small.
Howdy Lian. I was a little thrown off by the smaller bar ends myself. I had realized I missed on buying the bar end adaptor they sell. That’s the real way to go. Otherwise yes you have to get those bar end adaptors out and it’s not easy, they can knock out but not without special tools. Thanks for checking it out Michel! Well I for sure won’t argue that it’s not safer to have the stock turns that’s for sure. I would recommend people keep the stock rear turns or a cleaner after market alternate, in addition to the end bars. The end bars make a great addition to stock, providing a real solid and SUPER bright indicator. These things are extremely effective and because they are extended past your body and higher up on the bike, easier seen by moving vehicles.
Hey Zac, awesome mods, especially the lights. I just picked up my 401 from Tri County in Moorepark last week. How difficult was the wiring for the lights? Really want to do something similar to mine but not confident in my electrical abilities.
Howdy! Congratulations on the new ride, Tri County has been great to work with so your in good hands. There has only been one “issue” I ran into with them. This bikes oil reading must be done after warm up and is not easy to read without extra hands or a level bike stand. About a couple months after my first service I decided to check the oil level per manufactures guidance and…my oil level was too high. I panicked and contacted them. They had filled the oil with two liters when in fact it should only be about 1.7 liters. Not a huge difference but concerning. I recorded a call discussing my concern just in case and they informed me that unless I was experiencing characteristics of an overfilled oil res that I was OK. I checked the air box to make sure nothing was shooting out or building up and so far so good… just a caution there. As far as electrical abilities, basic electrical know how of positive and negative wires is mostly all it takes. The general light kits you can buy come with almost everything you need. Admittedly I had to dig into some internet help to identify positive and negative wire colors on this bike because I didn’t have a meter and the colors vary across manufactures. But that was mostly for the heated grip install. There are two levels of installing light kits. One to just simply add some flair, and one that taps into your break wires for the break safety. If you aren’t tapping into brake wires, it’s a simple as terminating the light kit leads to your battery and choosing where you want your light kill switch ( mine is hidden under the pillion seat). If you do want to tap into your brake wires, you need to disassemble some items from under the pillion seat, battery and tool kit and so on, to locate those wires. It’s not complicated however. Do some research and give it a shot! This low voltage wiring will not short something or break anything, so if it doesn’t work just connect things back to the way it came and enjoy your lights. If you ever need some advice on what I did, I’m happy to explain more. Zac@ratpaccontrols.com Cheers
Could you somehow wire up the LEDs to be big turn signals too? Glad you can remove those little reflectors on the forks, will have to check if they are a legality in the UK.
Pretty sure you can HP, Ive seen that on trucks a few times. In regards to the reflectors, for sure easy to remove. When I was cited for no reflectors here in Cali, the two officers were very interested in the bike and gave me a lot of good modification alternate tips. One officer showed me some 3M black reflector tape that could easily blend in on a bike and still keep that minimalistic look. Cool stuff and very reflective. Thats what Ill be installing to return for my citation sign off.
What is up with that! No joke the first time I fired the bike up and drove it less than a mile, pulled over and the very serious thought went through my head the manufacturer must have forgot to add oil or it was significantly low oil.... A sound like that coming from anything else and you are in serious engine trouble. I just passed my running in period, asked the dealership about the excessive noise and was told it was normal. I hear this top of the engine knocking on other folks videos too even on the 701. 4 year warranty, we shall see what happens.
@@zacmagers That's funny. I went through the exact same thing, stopping after the first mile, calling the dealer... and getting the same response. Maybe the metal in these engines have sonorous qualities that causes the mechanical sounds to amplify like tonewoods do for musical instruments. If you find out, let us know. Meanwhile, change it's oil and test it's limits.. Oh yeah, bring a cell phone on the rides...just in case.

Hello! Nice job! I am thinking about buying this motorcycle, but I doubt its size. My height is 182 cm. I'm afraid it will be too small. What is your height? You look great on a motorcycle!
Thanks for watching Zaichello! So around 6 foot would be a little tall for this bike however, the seat height on this bike is a few inches taller than most would expect. Im 5 foot 8 inches and feel very comfortable, any higher and Id be struggling. One thing about this bike people have to remember is yes, this is a beginner sized engine as far as cc, however its specifically designed to be an "Urban explorer" zipping through traffic congestion and tight spaces, tackling heavily uneven surfaces, light off road where needed through a dirt or grass field or backroad / trail, super light and compact and nimble, but at the same time hit a freeway for 85 mph comfortably. It appears small, and it is, but thats part of the urban adventure idea behind this bike. I think you would really enjoy this bike as an easy to manage fun zippy bike! Be safe, cheers

Thank you good sir thanks for checking it out!
@@zacmagers if you do a write up on the Leds, I would be interested. Especially if you incorporate the turn signals.
Plz make, how to apply rgb lights video on husqy....
Hello!
@@zacmagers Hi, Zack! Thank you so much for such a detailed answer! I wish you dry asphalt and smooth roads!
I got my Vit 401 from Tri-County too.
Nice! A lot of the KTM / Husq techs moved over to their sister company Magnum Motorsports. It’s a super clean place really nice folks, high mark ups tho.
@@zacmagers Yes, as I was told by one of the owners of Magnum that I met at the Rock Store riding a Moto Morini ADV. Thousand Oaks Powersports now carries Husqvarna too. Cheers Zac!
Nice, super clean

Howdy there Kay. So this is the Biltwell Gringo S in ice white. Pretty damn comfortable. Figured it would be a good visual color for cars to notice me. Thanks for watching

Thanks Jim!
how tall are you?
Howdy Andy. I’m 5’8”
What brand your side mirror?
Howdy Basher these are Motogadget short stem classic
@@zacmagers thanks man.
Nice!
Thanks Ed!
How tall are you Zac?
Howdy Aleks. I’m 5’8” on a good day
@@zacmagers Damn! Even you make the bike look small lol. I'm 6"4 and hunting for a first bike with some personality.
@@zacmagers Might go with the Duke 390
It’s indeed a smaller bike that works more for beginners such as myself ( riding for for 5 years now ) and works well in the LA traffic which is the primary reason I got the Svartpilan. There may be better choices for beginner bikers that are taller but the Svart has been great so far!
@@zacmagers Thanks for the response man, enjoy the bike! I'll keep hunting :)
If only there was a solution to eliminate the tire hugger and still have some fender.
I definitely should have kept the front fender … you barely touch a bit of water and you are wearing it…
Cool jacket!!
Can you do another bike video with you wearing this fully zipped up leather biker jacket and some Levi’s jeans? Show full front and backsides of yourself in them both
Great videos❤️❤️
Howdy Samantha, actually never thought about explaining the jacket..... great idea! Can do, got to bust out the levi's. Thanks for watching.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Looking forward to seeing this video in the next day or two.
Full front and backsides of yourself in the fully zipped up leather biker jacket and Levi’s

From the Philippines 🇵🇭 with love. Hope that subscription helps.
Thanks Wander! Appreciate the support! Ill check out your channel as well.
Be well be safe
Cheers
I didn't know it was possible to rice up a bike... congrats..
It's a beautiful bike but it's too small.
It is about 10-20 percent smaller for people who are taller. This size is just right for LA traffic
the tunes are wrong m8
You’ve totally ruined the bike (to me)
Well thank you for your honest opinion Sullivan
Dumbest thing I've ever seen. But good for you.
Thanks for checking out the vid tho!

Howdy.
