That snare is the cure for the coronavirus.
Julio Lopes 😜
What is corona virus?!
Groove master Austin laying out more creative metal beats than 99% of metal bands
Edit: quarantine has improved my practise pad commitment by 100% but decreased my girlfriends commitment to me by 100%
Apparently I like percentages
Priorities first.
Thank you for your help. I'll do my best!
Great as always!!
The camera dolly is a really nice subtle touch. I've noticed the overall polish on your productions improving over time. Well done!
Love it! Cheers Austin.
Austin, please keep these gems coming bro. I've never commented before but I'm a long time follower and fan..
I'm 62 and I guess a high risk . Hunkered down in the drumbubba drum sanctuary. Laid off from work and trying to get some shedding in.
Glad you dig the videos Randy. Stay safe and take advantage of the time off!
This is fun and helpful, thank you 🤩
sick lesson! quarantine time means ive been practicing your creative pad pattern video every day!
Nice! 👊🏼
Superb lesson!
Thank you Austin.
I just got into triplet groove a few weeks ago because it's important in many metal songs, exactly this groove was in one of the songs i want to learn. You really opened my mind to this groove. I did not really understand what he was doing until I saw it here and then counted it slowly myself. Thank you great video!
This groove is a absolutely filthy! Can't wait to get started!
Love it man. Wished I'd seen this before my last gig!!
Just awesome. Your explanation as always is right on.
Holy cow! Fantastic!
Great groove man!!!
Austin great lesson you can add so many sub grouping to this foundation that you came up with. It's endless. Thank you
Hey Austin, Im not a “double bass kinda of bro” but I’m digging this so much i might become one. Dude, you’re crushing it. Great lesson!
Cool concept
I like this lick when alternating singles and doubles are played on the bass drum. Add some accenting stuff to snare/left hand/right hand and you have a complex set of fill-in or comping ideas in bag.
Cool man! Love this one. It’s a great workout for the limbs and the brain!
Well Austin you have done it again. Thanks for this lesson. I am lucky as my acoustic and electronic set are in my home. Cheers.
The best educational drum cahnnel .
Great player, great explanations.
Easy exemple thank you👏👏👏🥁🥁🥁🥁🇨🇦🇨🇦
thanks!
Beauty Austin .... sounds awesome.
Thanks Austin!😎
Master !!
Nice lesson! I've been playing on the Roland kit at home since the family is stuck home too.
Pearl made the best 14"/5" in the market
Very nice
I never thought of using 2 against 3 polyrhythm like that. Great idea!
As for quarantine, i never practiced that much :) it cools me done and give me a good workout.
Nice lesson thanks and I love your shoes..!
Sounds like that one Plini song! Sounds amazing!
Onitsuka Tiger shoes. I use them too. Great 🥁 teacher! Awesomeness
Thank you for these videos. This is perfect! Also loved the traditional grip video.
During this Coronavirus lockdown, definitely going to work on my technique. I will be working on this! Would love to see some more double bass and also snare technique and solo exercises .
THANKS AGAIN!
I'm very inspired by this, thanx Austin ! From 4:50 onwards it makes a great intro for a drumsolo. Supercool.
Awesome video man. Beautifully creative beat and the learning of it broken down so effectively the construction is so easy to understand. Thanks so much!
Glad you dig it!
Great lesson, I was already thinking of working on Push Pull technique to clean up my doubles in these strange times
THANK you sir. Great lesson no joke ✌🏻👊🏻😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤
Thanks
Good stuff ..
¡Gracias!
Thank you!
Awesome. ‘Clockworks’ by Messugah uses a similar theme. I found if you take the right hand and change it to shuffle pattern (one-TRIP-LET, two-TRIP-LET) and accent the two and four on snare, this is really usable. Like you can sneak this in on a gig while you keep people dancing, and get a smirk from your guitarist. ‘Tainted Love’ is a good example of where to use this.
No Austin! I won’t use it wisely but I have to learn it first 😬. Stay safe😷
Nice. Reminds me of Clockworks by Meshuggah
Show man
Nice kicks Austin...love me some ASICS. I mean the double kicks with the interchanging accents were undeniably face melting I guess too but all around great form man. Thanks for the vid!
Nice ideas here. I learned this type of pattern to play Aenima and Schism, Danny Carey uses them in a few songs, except the pattern is Right hand kick kick, also in a triplet feel. I'm definitely going to work on playing them this way though.
I'm in South Africa, our country will begin a 21 day lock down this Thursday at midnight, so I'm going to moving my kit from my practice space to my home, literally after I finish typing this. I won't be able to play as much as I can in my practice space where there are no noise restrictions though, but we all have to sacrifice to help prevent the spread of this virus.
Peace and love to everyone, let's get through these hard times and keep a candle burning for all those affected by the Covid-19 virus
Def have more time to practice these days. Cool vid - what are you using for the cymbal stack?
I use that as well. Use it with all limbs👍
Austin ,im in Florida ,Dunedin near Clearwater, total insanity ,course staying clear of it, closing down beaches for two weeks ,interesting groove ,Ill give it a shot ,im a Jazz drummer ,no song will accommidate that groove but lots of time to experiment, lots,be safe my friend.
The first pattern sounds like the main drum beat for Son Of Lilith by Coroner.
Much more practice time ,im a single kick player, you werent shitten ,what a work out ,I was soaken wet after 15min. Of that !!! Im a Jazz drummer by preference as I said from previous comment, and dont think I would ever use it,but it was fun to try it
THAT SNARE!!!
The whole quarantine works for me a little bit was able to buy used gear at decent prices
Austin, listen to "Chacarera", it's a style here in Argentina. Use that rhythm.
Austin! I shared it with one of my drum students. I'm working on your creative pad exercises & traditional grip video due to "time off". I think it's mixed, sometimes I've felt more creative and other day not so much...almost too much time to "overthink" my playing. My thoughts...thx again
What kind of stack are you using? Sounds great!
I just downloaded your pad exercises, because my girlfriend is working from home and I can’t play my kit as much. Thanks man!
Austin, Very nice! What sticks are you using in this vid, Thanks, Peace...
1:19 I call this the 'At the Gates' beat.
Aric Improta used this type of groove in Altimeter by Night Verses. It's very creative, you should check it out!
(what is that snare??) brilliant double kick idea!
Mr Austin, now you can record the newest Lamb Of God album! xD. Awesome lesson! \m/
One thing I can tell after reading these comments is that after the coronavirus mess is over there’s going to be some killer drummers out there.
Good exercise 👍 Teaching drums via Google Meet starting this tuesday as my students aren’t allowed at school. Should be interesting since I’ve never done it before. Any platform suggestions regarding latency in real Time drum teaching?
Hey Austin,
Really digging your channel, man! Quick question: what kind of cameras and lights are you using for your videos? Thank you!
Thanks Simon, check the link in the description to see all my studio gear!
Double those left hands too for added intensity/chaos!
I was playing around with that too and thought of including it, but decided to leave it out to keep it short and sweet. Interesting to experiment with though!
I’m unable to access my drums but I have at least a guitar at home..however it sucks. Great vid tho Austin!
Ooh!!! Now that you're getting into double kick lessons how about a study the greats on Vinny Paul and his footwork in the Pantera song "Becoming"?!!!!
That's really like you would put in a different gear by driving a normal beat Quarter Beat, when you throw that in.
Hey Austin, what do you think about Lars Ulrich?
Soi know what I'm doing with my day now...
Two things: 1) Could you add a PDF transcript to this/these rhythms? It would be most helpful. 2) Since it's based on 1/8 note triplets, instead of straight 1/4 notes on the cymbal, how about a swing rhythm for us jazz/swing drummers? That would be a lot of fun.
Still waiting for it to kick in here in New Zealand but my wife's already told me that if we get quarantined I HAVE to spend more time in my studio rather than the house.
I can quarantine with my drums forever, even when the world heals...........
Sweet! Why the change from the Demon Drives to the pedals you're using in this vid?
I switch back and forth a lot. Not sure why, just get kinda bored and always think the grass is greener with the other one haha.
Austin. What exactly do you have in that right side stack? I'm self isolating with pad and stick work.

👍👏🌷❤
My drum kit is on the other side of the city :'( I haven't seen it in nearly two weeks.
Coronavirus stay-at-home has actually been pretty great for me. Working on learning how to mic and record my kit (thanks to your epic video series), and improving skills I didn't have time for normally like double bass.

Greg Bissonette kind of trick
Did you switch from direct to chain (or is it a belt) drive?
Yea I’m back on the Eliminators for now. (chain drive)
You told me to practise this now, my neighbours just called the police...
The thing I took away from this was your shoes are cool
Stuck with no two octave drum set and cymbal set, hurting over Koji Kondo music and Percusion Chamber Musical Instruments with my Cell in the chamber. Hurt With no Lefty Terry Bozzio Starter lefty Kit,
Sweet groove. What kind of China is that?
Quarantine day 3: have way more time to practice which is awesome but I’ve also had to resort to selling pictures of my feet on onlyfans so I can afford toilet paper. Stay safe out there peeps
Hey Austin, how do you record your voice in the parts without drumming? Is it so, that you either talk or drum and put the parts together later? I still hear a ring in the drums from your voice, but I am amazed on how clear the voice is seperated from the drums, though. Best, MM
I use a shotgun mic just out of frame. I record my voice and drums all at once in Logic, then bounce them out separately and sync them to the video. In Final Cut, I can switch back and forth between my voice track and my drum track from shot to shot. Works like a charm!
@@abbdrums Thanks a lot...much appreciated
I prefer to use single pedal, it helps to develop memory muscle plus it makes you look more professional!!!
“ I certainly haven’t mastered this”. Now you’re just making us feel bad 😉
Self-isolating isn’t it helping my practice time. I’m just spending way more time on RUclips
e55d33 i feel you but hook up RUclips on your tv assuming you’re able to and whip out the pad and run some exercises you already know. Shit does wonders my dude. Snooch to the Nooch
Geez, it was basically the 1/4 note triplet part of Fool in the Rain, and than you go mess with ny head. I'm just now getting comfortable with your pad workout, and now you're gonna have me take out a double pedal. The virus is allowing me to play more. This could end up like a horror flick
this excerpt feels way easier to conceptualize in 6/8
For me at least
Did anyone say Opeth?
#VIRGAL DONATI FAT BOI !!
Bro my neighbors are all working so I can barely practice the kit
Oh the sweet triplet first made its own raw appearance with Bonzo's solo at the end of Zep's rock and roll with the one kick method but it's just what the double kick that enables me but Austin mix in the quarter notes with the right hand it's just drummers genius and your humble on top of it...
