    Granted I was at St Andrews a long, long time ago but even with that caveat I can't believe just how eye-wateringly insane accommodation costs - both university and private - have become. I could have paid for four years in Sallies and still had quite a lot left over out of one year's residence fees now. And a room in a central flat could be easily found for 30 - 40 pounds a week. A different world.

      I also went to St Andrews and we lived a lot more frugally than these current day students and yet we had a whale of a time.

    Hey! It would be great to see a video about other students different financial situations (if they were willing to talk about it), especially experiences like student loans, as I'm thinking of applying for one if I get in.

      Hey, so I know quite a few people at university and friends of mine have taken out student loans. Taking out a student loan is actually a really good idea and can help a lot, so I would recommend doing some research into it and definitely consider taking one out. I think most people in St Andrews would agree that it is an expensive place to live, however there are plenty of ways to save money and as we said a lot of people spend considerably less than we do! The amount you spend in St Andrews in my opinion honestly doesn't greatly impact your time here - the joy you find in St Andrews is found in the amazing people who call it home! Tom :)

    could you do a video on tips for stuff that would help us to get into st andrews (for psychology if possible)

      hey! i'm pretty sure it doesn't matter in terms of specific details for psych, as long as you have a strong overall application - we can definitely do that but i would recommend you watch our video of us discussing our personal statements: ruclips.net/video/n2LIDv0tMY0/видео.html
      and also tom's video of how he got into st andrews: ruclips.net/video/dri5Yeab340/видео.html

    If you don't mind me asking did you take out "maintenance" loans and do you get parental money? Is it possible to live off just the maintenance loan and is it easy to find work in St.Andrews?

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  4 года назад +2

      Hey. So I think a mixture of the two is actually quite helpful, but obviously I realise not everyone can get parental money. Jobs are usually pretty easy to find as lots of the shops or cafes usually employ students. In regard to the maintenance loan it honestly depends on how much money you receive from the government and the type of accommodation the university gives you in first year. This link shows the accommodation prices:
      www.st-andrews.ac.uk/study/accommodation/halls/fees/
      I hope that helps. Please don't worry though because the university is very supportive. Tom :)

      hi! no - neither of us have jobs (although i will be working part time when uni hopefully resumes). we're in the privileged position of getting our money from our parents, but there are plenty of students i know who work part time to support their accomodation and living costs x kiki

    How much do you generally spend at the pub in a month events and galas and whatnot not considered? Also could you do a further video on your medical situation kiki because I have pre-existing conditions and I'm not sure what the student insurance covers or if I should get supplemental private insurance

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  4 года назад +1

      Cole Tiedje hello! so at the pub I would say if I go out once a week I’ll spend around £2-10 per week. About the medical stuff - about half of it is my cat’s vet bills because it’s not covered by insurance. The NHS will cover most things but for example I couldn’t wait 12 months to have an appointment with a dermatologist so i requested a private one. Usually I would have had health insurance cover it but my dad left his job at the time so we didn’t have any cover. That’s why it was so pricey. Hope that helps! x kiki

    Hiii! What do you consider ‘essentials’? As you mention one month was 700£?

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  4 года назад +1

      yes hi! so i did some big purchases such as a hoover (which cost me around £220) because my flat's hoover was dreadful. there were a bunch of other purchases (which i probably should have put into non-essentials) like a high-power blender and a vintage mirror - which like i said in the video pls do not think this is normal, i just have a very spendy lifestyle. amazon orders for kitchen equipment and a few things from ikea and boots are also included in my essentials. i spend quite a sum on skincare as well. i hope that clears some things up! x kiki

    • @lauraelizabethvandermaas7572
      @lauraelizabethvandermaas7572 4 года назад

      Kiki & Tom Thank you! Yes, that’s super helpful. Hoover/blender etc are a one time purchase usually. Makes sense that would crank up the budget for those months!
