I know it is not the purpose of the video to generate nostalgia in alumni, but it was great to see inside Sallies and Gannochy again. And I could see two of the hall photos from my time there.
I'd love to have seen more of university hall, especially the Old Wing corridors, the dining room, wardlaw....as someone else said, I know nostalgia is not the purpose of this video but I lived in University Hall for my whole 4 years and would just love to see inside it again! That was 20 years ago and I still miss it...I bet it's changed a lot!
Thank you so much Tom, I would love that. I was in Old Wing the first year men were allowed in Uni Hall! I was in a shared room, OW3, in first year, then wardlaw, moved to Lumsden after burst pipes in wardlaw when we'd had huge amounts of snow (an amazing creepy turret room was opened up, nobody ever used it and it was always locked until that flood..it had a creepy bed in it and everything, those of us who were feeling brave used to sneak up the stairs for a peek! It freaked me right out 😂) Then I was in OW 67 for 3rd and 4th year. Now we visit a couple of times a year and look longingly at the outside of old Wing with my 10 year old daughter who wants to study there too! Thanks for these amazing videos 🙂 Katherine
@@katherine4145 It is very lovely to hear your stories! It's always cool to hear alumni's experiences. Uni Hall is still rather creepy in that way and that room still exists!
Ooh you know the room I mean?! I was always sure my room in old Wing was haunted and there is most definitely something creepy about Wardlaw, especially that turret room!
I’ve just firmed my offer for St. Andrews and I hope I’m there in September! I absolutely love Sallies but what do you think would be the best preferences to try and get that as my hall??
Congratulations on your offer! Honestly, the accommodation preferences form is just randomised and you really could end up anywhere. Perhaps try and put standard catered or shared standard catered to have a higher chance of ending up in a hall like Sallies. I put standard catered as my first option and received the offer I wanted in Sallies but obviously it is luck and it is random.
I am a prospective undergraduate for 23 fall and I am really curious would it be any inconvenience for sharing a bathroom with so many other people in a standard room? really appreciated if someone can answer my doubt!
Thank u for the vid, good job, I wonder if u can cover the postgraduate halls ( specially Gregory Place) did not find any info about it in here or in google.
hey! we would love to but there's a small issue with us either not knowing any post-grads or not knowing any that live in halls! and since they're such small halls theres no way for us to sneak in either (like we did with a lot of the halls in these videos).
Heyy! Got accepted into st andrews for next year and i'm kinda lost regarding accomodation even after this video (it helped a lot but there's sooo much about housing lol). Was wonding what are your thoughts regarding shared bathrooms? Are they cleaned at all or should i always go there with cleaning sprays and stuff before every use?Mostly checking for angus / stanley since they are the most affordable but any info would be nice. Also is excluding utilities abig thing or irrelevant regarding everything is shared? Thanks in advance! Great video!
Hello! Congratulations on receiving your offer! In regard to shared bathrooms I can promise that I have found there to be no issue at all. They are cleaned daily by cleaners and therefore it is not necessary for you to purchase any form of cleaning equipment unless you desire. Having had a shared bathroom I can say there is no problem as I never ran into anyone, found it to be dirty or in any way lacking. If you have any more questions regarding anything please don't hesitate to get in touch! Tom :)
Any alumni watching who were partying at MCINTOSH on the night of the 1997 election? So much optimism. Never felt so optimisric since (thanks Labour Party for that BTW). I was at DRH.
Although the University doesn’t let you pick which hall you can stay in, do you know if they take into consideration what you want to study and will place you as near to that department as possible or is it really just 100% random?
no honestly it's just a very random selection, you can't even really tell them what you prefer (unless you have a physical disability and need to be closer to town etc)
Hi, can you say something about the construction of the new secondary school adjacent to DRA and FP? Should we factor it into our choice of accommodation? E.g., is it noisy or does it impact student life in any way? Thanks for the tour!
Julian hi! So since the students haven’t actually moved yet I can’t say for sure what it will be like - but I do think it’s quite a distance from the flats etc. Also keep in mind you can’t directly pick your hall so I wouldn’t worry at all x kiki
@@Julian-mx1op hii, this year I lived in one of the buildings that looked onto the construction and it was generally quite quiet, you'd hear a bit if the window was open but I wouldn't say it impacted any part of my life

hi guys 🥺 so my goal is to get into St. Andrews for 2021 entry, and I was just wondering if any of you have had experience in halls sharing a room? I’m tryna decide if it’s worth sharing a room to save money considering the halls are incredibly expensive 🥵
Andi C yeah! Quite a few of my friends shared and usually it works really well with roommates. I deffo think it’s worth it if you want to save some money x Kiki
This is so helpful and great but just the music in your videos I'm sorry but it is reaallly bad. I mean the sound itself is low so I upgrade the volume but then the music in between is sooo loud and it hurts my ears hahah
Hey, shared rooms are pretty much identical in most halls to individual rooms. They are obviously bigger and contain usually two of everything like beds, wardrobes, desks etc. In some halls they can be quite cramped - so in Sallies for instance I know some shared rooms were smaller than individual rooms. But generally they are larger. Tom :)
hi girl! it's super difficult for us to get access to any of the smaller halls, but here's a link: www.st-andrews.ac.uk/accommodation/pg/residences/angusstanley/ i hope this helps! x kiki
I’m not sure about per month... but they have the yearly prices online! Each accommodation has different pricing though depending on what type of room you get
hey! i am not quite sure what you mean but if this is referring to exams then no, it is not test-optional, but the exams do take place online (just as they did over the last year and a half)
Sam jam that depends on what you put on your accommodation application! They’ll ask you your musical preferences, if you like to stay up late, and your gender preferences
