Somebody that I used to know is pure genius wear a good pair of headphones and listen carefully every bit of that song is thought out extremely extensively not to undermine his other stuff though it’s all great
True, not only this is the first of his songs I ever heard, but one of the first I ever remember hearing, this one along with red right hand by Nick Cave, and Salt by Madrugada
I remember when I was in my teens and worked in two shifts. I would work in the morning and then in the evening. Hot summer it was. The little time I had in between, I would put my Gotye playlist on, everyday, and sleep away until I had to go to work again. That was my only remedy!
You've been gone much longer than you Ever said you had the plan to I'm just gonna wait 'till you come home Though I count the days, they're grey without you The weather's much better when I think about you I'm just gonna wait till you come home Empty glasses, burnt out matches Curtains drawn on near-full blackness I'm sleeping through the day, you're coming home To reclaim this heart you owned Lover, leave me Make me burn You're coming back! You're coming back! I'll wait patiently for your return You're coming back! You're coming back! I'm clutching at straws I'm climbing up the walls But every time I fall Back into my hole I'm feeling like a wretch I'm looking for a catch But you're an itch that I can't scratch I know you're coming back You've been gone so long you're fading And it takes all the time I can find just retaining Thoughts of things we did while you were here But I know you will return my dear
The "lock down" has turned me into a chair potato. I'm watching all sorts of stuff on RUclips. A tight rope act on I don't know what country in the Got Talent franchise brought me here. Now, I'm absolutely hooked on the song, and the freaky video.
The contrast of the lyrics, longing for someone who is long gone, to the tango-esque music, which obviously requires two partners "it takes two to tango", is just perfect
I do wish this song would get more plays. It has a fantastic mood, feel and sound. The lyrics and way he presents them are great. This is amongst my favorite songs. But i have a feeling that a lot of people seem to be put off by the absurdity and strangeness of some of his videos.
I like it but the full version is way better I seriously wouldn't mind having the six minute version played on the radio Cool video as well I always love his videos
Amy, he is a musician he fiddles with instruments and sounds and animations that please him if you like it - great if not, I think he's unmoved He seems to have no issues with image or record company deals being an independant artist for a number of years now.
Love the song and video. Nice to see a musician with a wry sense of humor, and who is not afraid to use different styles to express themselves. I find the "Twilight Zone" feel of the video to be very charming, as well as effective.
Goodness. Sometimes it's great when people don't come back. This song might be more pleasant without the video, don't have the album yet, but certainly eye and ear catching.
Have you been living under a rock? The reason "Somebody that I used to know" became so popular within a short period is because it turned into a meme. It's like that with all songs that turns into memes really. It doesn't mean that it's better than his other songs, or because Kimbra is it, its just simply how memes work.
I don't think the song is the problem, I think it's how that song was received. If that song hadn't gone viral, and you just stumble on it accidentally on RUclips one day, some people would say that song is just as good as all the other ones.
j'adore! quel style musical! je retrouve du peter gabriel, phil collins pink floid!! bravo l'artiste !et ses clips!!! tous plus délirants les uns que les autres!!
Songs about relationships always get played more, it has a catchy beat, who doesn't click on a song with a hot nude girl? His vocals are better in that song than his others, Kimbra's are amazing she brought along her fan base. It's easy to play on guitar and remember the lyrics. Just a few reasons; I don't actually really like the song, but yeah... Personally, I like Eyes Wide Open :)
this sounds slightly Amy whinehouse-ish and I'm loving it... we more mystery in music lyrics that make no sense but still do... maybe gotye with Adele and others can help preserve good music
Has anyone seen the tight rope walker that put her act to this song? He should make a music video with her in it. It went together so perfectly. This weird video fits his style too though. Ha ha. After all this time, this is still one of my favorite songs. Thanks for the music, Gotye!
It's a shame that most people here only think of Somebody That I Used To Know when they hear about Gotye. He has much better songs :/
Somebody that I used to know is pure genius wear a good pair of headphones and listen carefully every bit of that song is thought out extremely extensively not to undermine his other stuff though it’s all great
I disagree. I like his other songs but Somebody That I Used To Know is by far the best in my opinion.
@@killingmewillnotbringbacky9177 Right? Because of that track people went and check his other tracks.
@@garychrome1027 We need more people than just us, though. Many have heard StIUtN and then never even tried to search for other tracks. A shame.
True, not only this is the first of his songs I ever heard, but one of the first I ever remember hearing, this one along with red right hand by Nick Cave, and Salt by Madrugada
Love how all his songs sound so different which is so unique about him
lmaoo
The video freaked me out when I was 9 and 5 years later I'm still freaked out
Same
same here, ffs
Same I've finally found it
Same sh*t
And now with 18 you r not freaked put beacause you r busy doing drugs.
Don't let ambition make you forget what you care about.
That's the message i'm getting here.

I always pictured two exotic dancers from Paris...This video was not what I expected )=
Gurl this was amazeballs
You must be new here
the video is fantastic lol
Go in hell Jesus.
You are not what I expected.

If people would only actually listen to the lyrics of Gotye's music... deep & meaningful. I really appreciate his work. 🤗🤩
Yeah hearts a mess is the best imo
this one, Save Me, and Eyes wide open are my al time favorites because they have personal meaning but i love all of them.
A tall glass of wine and newly discovered gotya masterpieces make for a wonderfully break from reality
You’re coming baaaack 😭 PLEASE COME BACK WE MISS YOUR GENIUS RIP GOTYE 💀
He’s not die
@@karolgabrysiak1563 was joking 🙃
@@769sly I thought those were meant to be funny..
He has such a young voice in this song
I seriously don't know how this has under 1 mil views
Michael009 Me neither... Sadly many of his videos has under 1 million views which is very surprising yet not at the same time...
Michael009 I don't like this one as much as somebody I used to know or even more with our eyes wide open...
Alonso Herrera No one asked.
Now it's over 1 mill :)
I didn't expect the movie for this amazing song
This song is and always will be so special to me. A heartbroken classic!
i hear somehing like a tango influence..great song!
Do you think Gotye will come back?...
Yes.
maybe
he really should...
Come back Gotye!!
stop making me cry
I like it but the full version is way better
I seriously wouldn't mind having the six minute version played on the radio
Cool video as well I always love his videos
Live?
I don't know which one I like better - the music or the video
I honestly really enjoy Gotye a lot even though there other songs aren’t as popular as somebody that I used to know.
Amazing artist there should be another category in the industry for him alone.
Mister Anderson
Amy, he is a musician
he fiddles with instruments and sounds and animations that please him
if you like it - great
if not, I think he's unmoved He seems to have no issues with image or record company deals
being an independant artist for a number of years now.
Dope! Reminded me of an old episode of the Twilight Zone. With the hilarious stage props and special effects from back when. Great!! lolol
Love the song and video. Nice to see a musician with a wry sense of humor, and who is not afraid to use different styles to express themselves. I find the "Twilight Zone" feel of the video to be very charming, as well as effective.
That ending had me SHOOK, not gonna lie
We need you to do this COME BACK
i'm actually glad he went for a comical video. It fits the beat and feel of the song.
it's tough to acquire taste then consistently maintain your "2pac"ness. Their flavor is so comforting :)
"Drawing like blood" is a great album, I think Gotye is very talented artist, and very under-rated !
Who remembers that this song was used for the TV trailers of the Moonlight series??! can't believe the series got canceled in the end...
The ending was so freaky
Acordei e essa musica estava me embalando!! É danças com olhos fechados! Algo inexplicável!
what.
What.
WHAT.
*WHAT.*
_WHAT._

"Oh, ima let you do weird stuff to me....but first, let me teach you some cricket."
Una de mis favoritas, lastima que Gotye quizás jamás vuelva.
esta en una banda así que nunca se fue uwu
I love the song, but end of the video scared me as hell :( Now I always listen just audio. Why, Gotye, why? :'(
When are you coming back Gotye?
Linda musica que toca quando Tatiana está no equilíbrio da corda!
Now this song will always remind me of the movie Moon.
This is my favorite song!!! I could dance to it!!
Always coming back to this music
Fun fact: This video was produced by your gorgeous and talented freestyle dance-teacher, Renata Bliss (Minasha Please) 🔥♥️
well, nobody's perfect.
Even his not perfect stuff is pretty good tho.
I don't think the song is the problem, I think it's how that song was received. If that song hadn't gone viral, and you just stumble on it accidentally on RUclips one day, some people would say that song is just as good as all the other ones.
i used this song in my animation, it fit together so well
Sort of like Gangnam style... But I admit, I never heard of Gotye until that song, so I was living under said rock. Glad I know him and his music now.
I’ll wait patiently for you to come back, Gotye.
j'adore! quel style musical! je retrouve du peter gabriel, phil collins pink floid!! bravo l'artiste !et ses clips!!! tous plus délirants les uns que les autres!!
am just gonna wait till gotye come backk

I love the sampling of the 60s music....its an orgasm in my ears!

his videos are so tripped out man, reminds me of Peter Gabriel when he went solo. Werd.
does anyone know what it says at 3:15? i think it's french or something but i can't catch it quick enough to hear it properly.
The Only Thing I Know, Hearts A Mess, and Eyes Wide Open to name a few

Has anyone seen the tight rope walker that put her act to this song? He should make a music video with her in it. It went together so perfectly. This weird video fits his style too though. Ha ha. After all this time, this is still one of my favorite songs. Thanks for the music, Gotye!
