  • In this video I'll be showing you how to load and unload film in a Canon P film camera. If you have a Canon 7 or a Canon VI - VL this video might be of use to you too. In general, most 35mm analog cameras are pretty similar, so if you have another camera, just try to follow along.
Since the film community is constantly growing, I wanted to start this channel to provide all of you with some information about cameras that I am using.
I hope this video was helpful, if you have any recommendations/questions, be sure to leave them in the comments down below.

Hey just bought my canon P this week, no film in it yet. However the self timer seems to be stuck was working fine but perhaps dry firing it caused an issue. I bought it off eBay obviously used. Any help would be appreciated.

      Hi Harrsion,
sometimes these old self-timer levers do get stuck... there's not too much you can do unfortunately. Does it affect the rest of the camera though?
      All the best,
      V

@@harrisonplatis3902 Makes a lot of sense. Better safe than sorry. Maybe it had some other issues as well... so good choice! Are you shooting mostly with a 50mm? Because if you want to shoot a lot of 35, I'd recommend the Canon 7 or VT Deluxe!

So I just purchased a used canon p camera. As I was exploring the mechanism of the camera, noticed that the exp count is at “S”. i started playing with it without any film yet inside and clicked the shutter release button and wounded up the film lever then the film count went to “0” then repeated the process and went to “2”. So my question is, how to you reset back the exp counter to “S”? (No film inside yet)

Hi Kirk, I think you just need to open the back and the film counter should reset!

Yeah, except the red dot rotates even if there is no film inside the camera. The rewind tab (folded into the body) also does not rotate on the Canon P (unlike many manual SLR's). So, the only way to know if your film is loaded correctly on the Canon P, is to load the film correctly by making sure the film sprocket holes on the film are engaged with the film roll sprocket teeth in the camera. The only way.

The rewind lever rotates, you just have to leave it up to confirm. There is also an orange dial in the middle of the shaft that rotates. This was 7 months ago, but figured I'd share anyway. Cheers!
