    Dave, I own two Canon P's. One has the silver Canon 50mm f1.8 and the other the Jupiter-12 35mm f2.8. I shoot colour on one and black and white on the other. Kodak Portra 400 and Ilford HP5 are my friends. Great to see you having fun with this lovely camera.

    Buster I really really appreciate you for making and posting this video. I've been doing some research now for the past couple of months about the Canon P, and recently there have been more people uploading videos about it, I'm so grateful for that. Looking slowly on ebay to find one in a good condition and price and i'll snatch it ;) Thank you once again!

      Thank you for stopping by. Prices are climbing so the quicker the better. They’re selling for more than Canon 7 bodies which is crazy. Next video is my comparison of a P vs 7. Thanks again and happy shooting!

      @@DaveMontejano Prices are climbing indeed! And I was looking into the 7 too, but I feel like it's a little heavier of a camera, although still beautiful! Any quick thoughts? I'll definitely check that video out!

    one of my favourites cameras, I bought two of the on Ebay 8 years ago for 70 euros each, absolute bargain, now the prices have increased a lot (at least in Italy where I leave) but for around 200-250 they're still worth it imho, mine after 8 years still work perfectly with no cla or repairs required. The view finder is a little small and not up to par with the leicas, but for the price there is no contest.

    People always say the P is a copy of the M3. I find it's more like an M2. 35mm frame lines, non-beveled viewfinder, very simple utilitarian design. More emphasis on function rather than elegance. The 50/1.8 is good, the 50/1.4 is better. For 35mm the 35/2 (J-cron) is the one to have IMHO, at least I like the rendering of this one. Pretty sharp though still a bit vintage look. Thanks for the video!

    • @nitten13
      @nitten13 Год назад

      Yes Amazon is where you can find these straps and they are made from heavy duty Nylon Climbing rope. So they will not fray! The only drawback is there is no way to adjust the length. But they are inexpensive and rugged.

    Thanks for the great video. I have a Canon P and its working fine. I have a Contax IIa and a Leica M3 that have rangefinders that are just slightly off on the vertical. I knew if I brought them in they'd want to sell me a CLA for $200 plus each. I especially didn't want a CLA on the Leica because the L seal in intact. One question, where did you get that cool neck strap? I want one.

    how do you adjust ISO?

    • @DaveMontejano
      @DaveMontejano  Год назад

      It doesn’t have a light meter so you would need to adjust your iso on whatever your using to measure light. (External light meter or app on phone.) it does have a little wheel on the film door. But that is just to remind you what film you put in the camera.

  • @randallstewart175

    The P was a budget option, but of the 7 rather than the VI (L or T). It is a very clean, basic operation, but for the current hyping on YT, it carries two negatives. (1) The viewfinder is cluttered with fairly large and always present multiple frame lines. Both earlier and later models employ a more costly viewfinder which selects individual frame lines and finder magnifications. (2) The P uses the same shutter as the 7/7S. it was a new design for Canon. It operates at higher spring pressure than prior models. Unhappily, the high speeds tend to slow past the point where they can be adjusted back to spec. There are no parts for repair, and no experienced repairmen. Almost all repair shops refuse to work on them. As a collector, my preferred user is a VIT, but if you do not warm up to the high speed trigger film advance system, the VIL is much like the P, except for its much better viewfinder and the earlier shutter copied from the Leica. (Easily serviced anywhere.) I also prefer tghe VI models to the later 7/7S. Although I own both, I find their larger bulk and extra weight to offer no practical advantages.(The 7 model;s do mount the 50mm 0.95 lens, but in the real world, it is PIA to use and is much inferior to the much less costly 50mm 1.4.)

    • @shoefantasia1412
      @shoefantasia1412 2 года назад +1

      Wrong. P was budget version of VI series (VI-L), not that ugly duckling 7.

    • @randallstewart175
      @randallstewart175 2 года назад

      @@shoefantasia1412 Well, you are right in that the P looks like and probably shares more than a few parts with the VI models, although it shares the new shutter of the 7.. What I meant and should have more clearly said was that the P was marketed during the time that the 7 was offered as a less expensive alternative. Basically, it superseded the VI, in style. I too prefer the looks and heft of my VIT when I put a roll of film though a Canon RF.

    I disagree, it looks a little plain. I prefer the aesthetics of the VT deluxe. The depth of the baseplate housing the film advance significantly improves the proportions to my eyes. The Canon VT Deluxe : The Best Canon Rangefinder.

      I like the VT as well! The Trigger advance in the bottom place works well and really sorry it didn't catch on back then. Canon was really doing a lot to reinvent the 35mm rangefinder.
