I was in the audience of this actual show for our 8th grade field trip. And my added bonus I was interviewed by Michael Young on this show and was on TV because of it. I asked Mike Douglas why he moved his show from Philadelphia to LA. I can't believe I found this clip.

Gracinha Leporace is THE VOICE of romantic Latin-American jazz. Great music as usual from Sergio Mendes. Thank you Giacaterino for uploading this video. My compliments to you as a great musician...from one electric jazz bass player to another.

I watched this concert in tv back home in the Philippines...can you upload the video...this was a memorable one; I was in my 20s then...everyone aged/ matured singers and audiences...not sure if marietta was part of that group...she’s my favourite bytheway...kidding aside, luv them all LOL
I watched some Sergio Mendes concerts in 1975 in Manila at the Araneta Coliseum and May1977 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I don't know if you were already part of the group then. All concerts were great. I thought Bonnie Bowden was part of the group in Calgary, but she was not. However, both women in Calgary were so stunning, if I'm not mistaken one of the was Marietta Waters. Anyway so impressed with her energy and overall talent on this video. I believe she is the best Sergio Mendes singer ever.

Thanks, Sergio was great to work with and still a good friend. A lot of people didn't realize that he had an Oscar nomination in 2012 for the animation "Rio". Me, I went on to compose and produce music for TV and film. 15 years as composer in residence at CBS network. Thanks for your interest......w

That whistle/piano doubling is genius-- I first heard it on Jobim's "Stone Flower" album of 1970. Mike sounds great and his dancing with Gracinha is charming.
How is this whistling sound achieved? Did he use a delay box?

No, the girl in black is the Brazilian singer Gracinha Leporace, Sergio Mendes' wife. Lani Hall left the SM&B66 group in 1971 to pursue a solo career.
Lannie Hall left because she married Herb Alpert

Thanks for this unique material! Very nice playing on Magic Lady, where you're playing a different arrangement from the album version. I always found that album arrangement an incredible tour de force, with the strings and the percussion and the piano all blending in so well, and the saxophone soaring on top of it all. That must have been a great experience. (Too bad it cannot be posted on RUclips...)

Yes, Lani Hall was missed a great deal but these singers are very good. BTW, Michael Douglas was underrated as a singer. He was very good indeed.

Hey man, you must have had one hell of a life hanging with the Man. This music is bringing back so many great memories of my teens and twenties.
Best part was, the band kept evolving right up to a few years ago with the remake with BEP's.
You must be great musician for Sergio to take you on, he had a heck of a work ethic. What'ya up to now days?
