  • Hey friends! Today we are going to talk about how to read the Old Testament with eyes looking for Jesus- using Covenant theology. This reformed theology is transformative in how to read the bible and I am so excited to dive in!
But first, this video, about how to read the old testament, is part of my "How to Read the Bible" series- in this series I seek to de-mystify some common questions in how to read the bible and just make it all as simple as possible! So if this is something you'd be interested in, make sure to hit the subscribe button and let me know in the comments if there's anything you'd like to hear about! I'd be happy to make a video and answer any questions!
If this video helps you, will you let RUclips know by giving it a "thumbs up"? That's just a really simple way to help other's find my videos on how to read the bible!
In today's video on how to read the bible, we are talking specifically about how to read the Old Testament through the lens of Covenant Theology. Reformed theology finds Covenant theology to be a core factor in why we read the Old Testament. So, when we talk about how to read the old testament I want you to keep in mind that this is also just how to read the bible and not just the Old Testament! Covenant theology is so very crucial to seeing Jesus in the entire Bible narrative! Reformed Theology tells us that Christ is in it all!
So today, I share an Old Testament overview and an Old Testament timeline to kind of point out the big parts where we see Jesus and a need for Jesus, other than the prophets. It is crucial in your old testament bible reading to know how to study the bible through the lens of Covenant theology or else there is so much that will be missed! So that is also why I wanted to address this earlier on in my how to read the bible series, is how to read the Old Testament in a Christ-centered way. Frankly, if we don't use Covenant theology, then there really isn't much point to read the Old Testament! I can see why people might ask, "why read the old testament?"! So, maybe you're asking, should a christian read the old testament, and I'd say a BIG YES! In fact, I'd say a big part of Covenant theology is knowing how to read the bible and thus seeing the old testament simplified- with the lens of seeing Christ! I hope this old testament timeline and old testament overview encourage you to jump into God's Word and dig deep!
Because, Christ is there! It's not, "should Christians read the Old Testament"? It's DO Christians read the Old Testament and see Christ, because that's what we are supposed to see, in the old testament simplified!
And hopefully this video gets you motivated as I share how do I read the old testament to make you want to jump into the Old Testament scriptures TODAY! Read through the Old testament not because I say you should, but because God has given you a desire to!
Let me know in the comments if you have any leftover questions after this old testament explained overview. I tried to present an old testament simplified old testament overview, but there's no telling if I actually made Covenant theology simple! That's why I love y'alls feedback!
Make sure to check out the rest of this playlist and my other videos here on how to faith a life- I'd love to answer any questions you may have about Covenant theology and reformed theology, and I will see y'all on Friday!

A lot of churches teach that that the Old testament is no longer apply to the New testament is very very wrong I prayed for years to understand the Old testament and God finally answered and I absolutely love it love it and without understanding Old testament scriptures and prophecy you're never going to be able to appreciate how beautiful the New testament is for us as Born again believers

I would love to learn about the 1st century culture. I find there is so much that goes over my head when I read the Bible simply because I don’t get the cultural significance. My pastor this weekend talked about Bartimaeus in Mark 10 and how when he threw aside his cloak it was throwing aside his way of life because he was a beggar and during Passover he would have made a lot of money begging, but he abandoned it for Jesus. I would have never realized the significance of his cloak throwing before.

Thank you for all of your helpful content! I’m on Genesis 1-4 currently and I can’t move on yet because of all of the astonishing rabbit holes I’ve gone down. But you are SO right - the OT points to Jesus and has such value! I recently left a church after 25 years because the pastor had such a low view of Scripture, specifically the OT. Very sad.

Hi! New to your videos and am thoroughly enjoying this!
Recently, I've been wondering is there a list of laws if the Old Testament that we no longer need to follow after Jesus came and fulfilled redemption?
I see specific references that food restrictions and circumcision do not need to be followed in the New Testament but are there others? Or is there somewhere a list if references I can study?
Side note: thanks for not editing out those Mom pauses, it's so encouraging to a young Mom like myself ❤️

@@vedabrown2020 The seven feasts of the Lord were actually prophecies of Jesus in the form of "appointed times" (mowed") i.e. feasts. They are listed in order in Lev 23. You need not follow them today since they were but signs (owt) of Jesus and His redemptive work.
The first four were consecutive and were observed in the spring harvest. They are Pasoover, Unleavened bread, firstfruits, and pentacost or shavuot. Jesus is our Passover and was without sin (unleavened) and so His body saw no decay in the grave. He fulfilled those signs on the very day they were observed for 1500 years. He rose on firstfruits and become the firstfruits of the resurrection. Seven week and on day after firstfruits was shavuot and that was fulfilled on the day of pentacost. This depicts the change from old covenant to new or from "flesh" to "Spirit" since that's when the Spirit of God was poured out.
The last three feasts are fall harvest feasts and are fulfilled in a spiritual way. They are trumpets (yom Teruh), day of atonement (yom kippur) and Tabernacles (booths). When we are saved, we are spiritually gathered to God and that is our day of atonement as God then tabernacles with us.

Excellent! I would love to talk with you about the older son/younger son theme that runs through the Bible. I think you will be quite amazed at how this theme plays out. Have you looked into "new covenant theology"? Which I think is more Biblical than Covenant theology. Also, "reformed" generally means "Calvinistic". Are you a 5 point Calvinist?

Chalk it up to my lack of education but I think similarities should be celebrated and differences should be academic. Can you tell that I have been jumped on about this? It happens. It’s better to question an answer than it is to have answers that can’t be questioned. 🌺
