"partial collapse" bruh the bridge is gone. all that remains is the ramp.
Partial collapse means parts of the bridge are still connected. However the bridge will have to be demolished and rebuilt
but they're not connected lol. in engineering the ramp isnt considered part of the bridge structure@@bananamontana1136
Someone is in big trouble, this is not good. 🦘
that is not actually true, The bridge is actually a lot longer then we can see on the shot here, you can clearly see more sections if you google the bridge's name.

There is a captain that will never pilot another ship.
Apparently, the power to the ship went out multiple times based on a few comments below. I don't know how much of that is true.
There was something wrong with the ship. On the ship tracker the ship started to list off course and on the livestream you can see the power go out three times on the ship before it hit the bridge. Looks like they lost power and could not get the steering under control.

@@ConsumptiveSoul The captain won't ever be the same or ship workers if someone is dead In the water.
I wonder if the captain was a DEI hire like the new pilots and lawyers in America😂😂😂
Such a tragedy. Totally shocking!
After the Sunshine Skyway bridge disaster in the early 1980s- from exactly the same cause- a ship collision- the new bridge was constructed with several bumpers on both sides at the shipping channel to prevent this kind of thing from ever happening again.
You think this wasn't a planned event?
This bridge has huge concrete bumpers protecting the supports along the channel.
You’re talking about a 1000’ cargo ship here.. nothing stops that much mass moving over water, especially some bunpers
@@nuudelz3711 The bumpers are built to account for those size vessels.
@@toddb3394 I notice them in a photo online, but they are tiny compared to the Skyway bumpers and misaligned in the direction that ship was headed. Also there's only 2 on each side of the shipping lane, not enough to prevent this from happening.

I moved away from Baltimore a little over a year ago after living there since '87 and I sure am carrying a heavy heart today...
when this bridge was designed wouldnt you think they would consider what would happen if a ship hit the pillar?
US has inferior infrastructure to start with, so…. Probably not.
Don't think they could protect it enough to actually work when it's a ship holdin so much weight
Do you have any idea the weight/ momentum of such a ship?
I doubt that many bridges are build to withstand the impact of a massive container ship with one of its pillars. Its the same reason as to why passenger airliners don't have armor plating.
Usually bridge architects don't include direct ramming of support by giant ship into calculations, but considering there's a huge and busy cargo port behind that bridge - such long suspension arch is definitely an oversight.
Look at Crimea bridge - there's only one arch-supported section, to make shipping pass wider. But the rest of it is classic design - each pillar supports only two ends of adjacent sections. So even if unhinged UA terrorists succeed in getting a ton of TNT and detonate it, it will only affect two sections at most. And being of modular design, these sections can be assembled and reinstalled in a matter of several months, which was successfuly done two times already in last two years.
Hope everyone in water is ok and unharmed
Hypothermia can occur in a hour
@@Sharyk808Actually less than that. You can die from hypothermia in minutes if you're in water 40 degrees or lower.

I don't know anything about how these ships operate but not allowing the crew to steer the ship till they are out of the harbor seems like a terrible idea. Or am I misunderstanding what he meant? Do they swap crew members at another location?
There is tugs that guide the ships out of the port but then the ship takes full control.
The harbor has Pilot’s that bring ships in and out…the crew of the ship doesn’t navigate through this area.
I won’t speculate as to why this happened, that info will come out later…but the ship SHOULD have been driven/under the control of a pilot that navigates these waters.
Another port down. Look for all your supplies now. The only way to get back and forth are the tunnels Amazon is on the other side, no packages. This is a big problem for Baltimore and DC.
