- A portion of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore has collapsed after a large boat collided with it early on Tuesday morning, sending multiple vehicles into the water.

At about 1.30am, a vessel crashed into the bridge, catching fire before sinking and causing multiple vehicles to fall into the water below, according to a video posted on X. “All lanes closed both directions for incident on I-695 Key Bridge. Traffic is being detoured,” the Maryland Transportation Authority posted on X. The Baltimore mayor, Brandon M Scott, and and the county executive, Johnny Olszewski Jr, said emergency personnel were at the scene and rescue efforts were under way.

In a movie, the bridge would take about 5 minutes until it collapses after the crash. In real life, it took less than 5 seconds. It is devastating how fast your fate is decided when you are at the wrong place at the wrong time.
18 seconds to be precise

Are you saying the movies aren't real?
I think it depends on bridge.
A bridge as massive as the red bridge from San Francisco could take alot damage, until it collapses.
This one is just basically a wooden plank.
What do you mean wrong place at the wrong time??? I'm pretty sure most people did this in their daily life the bridge falling was not their fault?

For some context:
- Baltimore is the 8th busiest port in America. This will close it for months. All shipping in and out is done.
- The span is 4 lanes, and a mile long. The abutting structure is even longer. Even at a late hour, it is safe to assume dozens of vehicles were on the bridge.
- I-695 is essentially the "Baltimore beltway" - it's designed to allow traffic to skirt the main highway tunnels closer to the city.
😢😢😢
there were only 8 city service vehicles and 3 civilian vehicles on the bridge during the collapse. so if anything the casualty number is gonna be really low.

Plus why aren't we talking about pushing towards WW3?
the bridge is 1.8 miles long, there were 8 construction workers on it at the time. 2 were rescued, 2 bodies were recovered, and 4 are missing/presumed dead.
My condolences to the people affected by this Disaster! Austria is with you❤❤❤
Соболезную родным чьи родственники были на этом мосту 😢 это ужасно

What is the status of CSX, Norfolk Southern, Amtrak, and Canton Short Line?
Prayers for all any word on the crew on the vessle that struck the bridge
Dude! I've seen controlled demolitions fell structures less slowly! That was crazy fast!
They say there were workers at Bridge 🤔🙏🏻
Man that bridge down went down fast
Yep. Physics is real.
my prayers/condolences go out to everyone affected :/
I haven’t seen a disaster this bad involving a ship since the Costa Concordia

Ohhh man 💔
These ships need stricter controls! How can such a large vessel lose power!? It seems completely in sane! My heart goes out to the victims and their families. I still hope for survivors!
How? By losing power from the engines. Like any other form of transport, they can break down. The fact all the lights went off a couple of minutes before the collision, it looks like they didn't lose their engines, but all electricity to the ship. It then came back on, but they would have been without engines power at that point as it takes a while to get all the systems back up and running. It would then just been at the mercy of the tide/wind etc My dad was 2nd engineer in the merchant navy and was in the engines room for their voyages. You'd be surprised what can go wrong on a ship. If you lose your engines in a storm/high seas, you're f****d!
Maintenance! Like plains! @@alloneword7427
how TF do you crash into a bridge?!?!
Game player detected
There can be many reasons. The same with how TF you crash a car.
From faulty equipment and medical emergency to lapse in judgment and even intentional.
Sheer speculation, but we know the Dali was outbound and clearly riding super-high in the water -- very curious re the clearances just there
я вот тоже думаю... Либо полная потеря управления, либо специально

Wow, in 20 seconds an entire bridge collapses.

Yes I wonder why it wasn't constructed to be safer in such a place
@@Maya-pm4et probably because it’s 50+ years old
@@stunnin420ifyYes but don't you have safety checks in the US?
Prayers to those involved.
Reminds me of me driving home every night in high school and college reaching in the cooler in the back seat then seeing my car in the morning and mom asking me where the rest of my car is.
Those poor people... My condolences.
Everyone biggest fear is right here
No
Stop speaking for everyone!
No Americans just think they’re the centre of the universe
I don't think I've ever heard anyone say their biggest fear is being on a collapsed bridge.
@@pandadoublexlMy daughter has always been scared of these types of bridges.
