@@lenathompson1733 I’d argue he’s the WARIO of Disney, essentially being a Bad Mickey, as Wario is a Bad Mario. Waluigi is just a clone of two pre-existing better clones, if his namesake wasn’t obvious enough. But yeah, Mortimer has gotten staying power thanks to an in-joke and being used as a means to make Mickey relatable.

The fact that the Wolf breaks the fourth wall in "The Big Bad Wolf" during the grandma scene - after his spot-on Jimmy Durante "Ha Cha Cha" imitation - to wink and playfully ask "how am I doing?" of the audience clearly shows what a favorite he was. He could be terrifying but clearly someone you "love to hate" or be terrified of (and weirdly going off of the last post, like Richard III, the Wolf often does "break the fourth wall" and wink to the audience during his scheming)

I saw “The Big Good Wolf” from “The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse”, and I was surprised how Clancy Brown makes for a great Bletcher-esque voice compared to Jim Cummings. Not to say Jim is a bad actor, but imagine if Clancy Brown got to voice Spike from Tom and Jerry, had someone realized that a Jimmy Durante impression never worked for a bully of a dog like Spike.

About the Phantom Blot: his deal was that he couldn't bear to see anyone die due to his poor soft heart... So he elaborates intricate deathtraps to off his victims out of sight! Reportedly, the Big Bad Wolf's movement in animation was based off of infamous and feared Broadway producer Jed Harris. Interestingly, Laurence Olivier also drew inspiration from Jed Harris in his definitive 1955 version of Richard III as Gloster. Its actually interesting to see the similarities in the movement of both characters in different mediums - the predatory way they both stalk about and the sadistic glances they give; I can only imagine how much of a nightmare the real Jed Harris must have been. Reportedly even Katharine Hepburn feared him...

In regards to the Phantom Blot on DuckTales 2017, his disguise, as revealed in the season 2 finale, was that of the Funzo's mascot. He was voiced by Eric Bauza, so I'm assuming he'll voice him in season 3. While he has his share of comical villains (such as the Beagle Boys in that series), he's also voiced more menacing villains (such as Tiger Claw in the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series).

I agree with you when you said that you may never know what obscure old character may hold for the future.
Also, I know you have said that The Phantom Blot is very popular here in Europe with Disney comicbooks, howeven let me stress it even more, Disney comicbooks have a very large and popular market in both Europe and South America, with lots of characters and stories both new and old, and the way they handled the Phantom Blot through the years has been really masterful. For example, this past couple of years a new set of stories on him have been produced in Italy and, man, they truly show how good of a villain he can be.

He also became a reacuring character in the german disney comic books known as "Lustige Taschenbücher". SOmetimes as Mickey RIval and sometimes as a co criminal for Pete and co.

I don’t mind that they attempt to give him something of a backstory, or that they tie it to previously introduced characters like Magica, but his goals/values here vary drastically from how he seems to come across in the comics you displayed. It’s like taking Professor Moriarty from the Sherlock Holmes books and trying to give him the backstory and motivation of Scar from Fullmetal Alchemist.

Their reinterpretations of classic characters have been very interesting, and while they haven't hit the mark 100% of the time, they've usually been handled well. I don't care for this version of the Blot, and I feel that his role should have been played by a different character. I really wish Disney would use the Phantom Blot more, he feels like a good counterpart to Pete in terms of enemies of Mickey Mouse. Like, Pete may occasionally be a schemer, but he doesn't strike me as a criminal mastermind the way the Phantom Blot does, plus the Phantom Blot has an air for theatrics and grandiose while Pete is more to the point. I always considered the Phantom Blot to be the "Doctor Doom" of Mickey's world, and I always felt that he should get more respect than what he's been given, particularly when it comes to Epic Mickey. It really ticked me off that Warren Spector was so dismissive of the Phantom Blot, citing his debut comic where he steals cameras as a reason why he sucks, even though the reason why he stole cameras was because there was a valuable chemical formula hidden in one of them, not to mention if we were to judge characters purely by their debut appearance, then Mickey wouldn't really be the likeable guy he is, since Steamboat Willie is just him goofing off, disrespecting his captain and abusing animals. Besides, I don't think the Shadow Blot, who's basically just a mindless monster, is that much better or more interesting in comparison.

I remember that Ducktales episode. He actually was evil, sure, but he was just so overcompensating about it. I did like how he name checked actual other villains from other franchises without giving them those awful "parody" names. Something you rarely see in cartoons these days. As for Frank's portrayal, I get what he was going for. A more whispy, ghost like voice, but I think a slight variation on his Dr. Claw/Soundwave would have been perfect. I also seem to remember a really brief period in the 90's where they tried to make Blot a popular character, albeit through older Mickey comics. I can't remember if it was just a nostalgic aesthetic they were going for, and I can't remember if Disney Adventures had an article or two launching this. I do remember some sort of weird introduction of the character of some kind, there was a "Bend'ems" figure of the character, I managed to get one of those back then.

A bonus fact about the three little pigs: In the version on which the wolf eats the first two pigs, he tries to trick the third one into coming out of his house by inviting him to a turnip field, an apple tree and a fair. But the pig sees through the wolf's tricks and goes to those places before the hour set by them both. In the apple tree, he almost gets caught by the wolf, but manages to escape by making him fetch an apple for some reason. A similar thing happens in the fair, but in that ocassion the pig escapes by rolling inside a butter churn and scaring the wolf in the process. After the wolf learns about that trick, he finally decides to get down the chimney.

The phantom blot defined my childhood. Over here in Europe he is truly well known. And as far as I see it in most stories he’s used in he is the biggest threat. Hell even when he isn’t the main antagonist like in the Premium Darkwing Comics he‘s still so story defining and relevant. He perfectly rounds out the trifecta. Pete is a thug, the Beagles are evil minions and he is the dramatic supervillain.

Oooh I am a big fan of The Phantom Blot (as you might can tell...) and I have a large collection of the comics starring him (Mostly with mask on, because I unfortunately care less about those where he goes without mask).
Here is some cool details I know about Phantom Blot: The number one is of course his motive revealed in comic "Do not forget my name/I Am Phantom Blot", where his ultimate objective is to make people fear him again as that's what he lives for in what he does. Unfortunately he has been lately mistreated like any other average criminal, so what he does is he plants a garden of flowers with the ability to erase memory for a period of time, and during this he does things to freeze people's blood once more.
Second best one is actually a series called Darkenblot (you may have read about some of these), that is focused around futuristic cities of Robopolis and Japanese-influenced Robohama. In summary, Phantom Blot creates a namesake robot, that is a colossal battle armoury, which in its debut has ability to regenerate. Don't really know what actually was changed alongside the look in the later parts, but the third one is my all time favourite: He along with his technological crew, who I consider his friends since Phantom Brat, creates Umibozu called robot to terrorize the city with AI, who has become the artifical version of the phantom Blot.
I gladly share some more from my collection if anyone is interested to hear more about these "European exclusive" blot stories

Here's an interesting extra bit of trivia: Back when Nintendo made the Game & Watch series, they had licence to put characters from other media in some of them, including Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Popeye and Snoopy. One of the Game & Watch games, Egg, has a wolf who looks a lot like Zeke Wolf (minus the hat) as the player character, catching the eggs laid by the hens. This Game & Watch game simultaneously had a Mickey Mouse version which replaces the wolf with Mickey, the basic gameplay staying the same. Whether or not the wolf in Egg is Zeke Wolf himself is unclear, but given the Disney licence Nintendo had at the time, the wolf's resemblance to Zeke could well have been intentional.

What's most fascinating about the Phantom Blot is that I could see him as a serious live-action villain. I can even see him as a true monster. I'm reminded of the "Batman" villain Killer Moth, who, thanks to an evil magic spell, went from being a pathetic loser in a moth costume to a gigantic man-eating actual moth named Charaxes! The Phantom Blot could undergo a transformation similar to that of the Killer Moth, becoming a being of pure black ink and looking more like the Spider-Man villain Venom. THAT I would pay to see!

Actually, it's kind of ironic that you put the Big Bad Wolf and the coyotes in the same video, because they actually shared a comic together at one point. There was this one fun comic where Zeke takes Lil' Wolf camping. After some other misadventures, they try to sleep, and the scene switches to some howling coyotes, turn out to be Bent-Tail and Junior. Bent-Tail decides it's time that Junior try to catch a chicken on his own. Junior doesn't know what a chicken looks like, so he uses an alphabet picture book page for reference (showing "C for Chicken"). However, the other side of the page shows a wolf, so he get mixed up. Lil' Wolf wakes up to see Junior trying to drag off Zeke, and he convinces Junior that it's better to chase a smaller, younger "chicken" like himself. Nevertheless, things end with Zeke getting woke up and into trouble. After some shenanigans involving ants and bees, Zeke's scream startles Junior Then Bent-Tail returns and, seeing that they've upset Junior, chases the two wolves away.

The Phantom Blot on our last entry for this episode is quite an interesting villain. I’m not sure if he has what it takes to make the Disney chills roster of upcoming characters, but I think he has the potential races popularity as a villain as long as he puts in the effort and his fans continue to make more and animations of him. He’s a phantom in the form of a black Caped man. And with his daughter by his side, I think he has more potential. Here’s to the future of the phantom Blot!

Hey Colin, your right the wolf is eluded to in the song "who's afraid of the big bad wolf", but its the ominous foreshadowing Practical gives his two foolish brothers, when they laugh at him for working so hard.
Though I know you said villains that are predators weren't really villainous since their trying to feed themselves, can we really say the wolf is a villain, since I stated in a earlier comment, he's being mocked by the two foolish brothers, who come off as bullies a bit?

As for the big bad wolf, he is one of the most iconic fairytale villains of all time, but I think the Disney version of him is an actual Disney villain because he has a good sense of style with all his outfits and clothes, I didn’t even makes a family in the end, making himself a unique twist on the character one that other big Bad Wolf characters can’t achieve. I can hear him an actual villain, and I think the rest of us should agree on that. Don’t you all this so too?

Mortimer has also appeared in lots and lots of Mickey comics, mostly in the 70s and 80s, though he's been mixed up with Montmorency (who started appearing frequently in the 90s and 00s) to the point I think they're just considered two different interpretations of the same character at this point, despite having rather different designs, personalities and amounts of money.

Mortimer had appeared earlier in the strip in a storyline from 1936. Mortimer is a prankster with black ears and long pants with Mickey-style buttons on them, while Montmorency (aka Monty) is a rich braggart with brown ears (though American publications seem to color them with a very dark shade of brown to the point they seem nearly black) and fancy suits.
The panel at 21:19 shows Monty, though the particular American publication this panel is taken from renames him Mortimer. I have no idea why they do this.
