Belly, same Boston area, same era as Breeders. Tanya Donelly was in The Breeders, and also Throwing Muses. She left and was the front in Belly. Gail Greenwood is the bassist in Belly and she fucking rocks. They had a few hits in the early 90's, we're on the cover of Rolling Stone, etc, but broke up after a couple of albums, but reformed with same original members a few years ago and are still at it. I highly recommend Feed The Tree.

From the Breeders you could move backwards or forwards with Tanya Donnelly, the guitarist. Backwards gets you to her work with Throwing Muses (fronted with her step sister Kristin Hersh). "Dizzy" has Kristin on vocals while "Not too Soon" has Tanya doing the singing. Forwards gets you to Tanya's fronting the band Belly and then her solo work. One of my favourite things about this song is that it doesn't really strike me as something that was entirely thought through in terms of what the structure would be. like they had the lyrics for the verses, had the pieces of the guitar parts and knew the basic idea of the chorus, and that's it. It's as if someone was just nodding or silently counting down to the other members as to say "okay, get ready to change to the chorus in '3-2-1-now' or "okay, i'm about to sing a verse then play that clean lead in 3-2-1-now".

Such a great song. The BREEDERS were class... the ENTIRE "Last Splash" album is BRILLIANT. Next: "Saints" or "No Aloha" are both bangers. Speaking of Dayton, OH... You MUST hit GUIDED BY VOICES: The Greatest Indie Band of All-Time! STILL GOING STRONG!! (Try "Space Gun" or "Enemy" or "Lizard On The Red Brick Wall"... They are a Banger Legend!)

Guided By Voices isn't just a mere rabbit hole, it's Carlsbad Caverns. GBV frontman and nuclear-powered songwriting machine Bob Pollard is the only artist in rock history with whom it's impossible to keep up in terms of output. And yet his banger-to-clunker ratio is surprisingly good.

That's Kim Deal the original bass player for the Pixies along with her twin sister Kelley Deal. Kim Deal didn't get a lot of her songs on the Pixies albums as Frank Black was the primary writer, so the Breeders were her outlet as a side project. "Divine Hammer" is another decent track from that album. You can hear her vocals on several Pixies songs, usually in a complementary fashion to Frank's lead vocal. "Here Comes Your Man" is a primary example to check out.
