Women with guitars everywhere is one of the things I miss most about 90s Rock and Alternative music.
SAME
Lush, Sleeper, Echobelly, Hole, Elastica, Salad, PJ Harvey etc etc. Great times!
@@pitmatix1457 Yes!
Check out Burning Witches.
now they just cut themselves
This song is such an iconic '90s classic. That bassline is EVERYTHING. And I always had a crush on Jim the drummer.
I am always a little sad that this is the main song people know from the group.
@@amedeoavogadro2788 I was just talking to a coworker about the Breeders and the amazing Deal sisters. They too only knew Cannonball, same thing with the Pixies, the only song he could think of was Gigantic... Two great bands, and how could they not be with Kim Deal involed, so many great songs and so many people, clueless!
@@MariSundell I liked their debut album a lot more. I was a little wierdo though, so I know why my favorite isn't everyone elses.
Yes the drummer is hot. My gay ass is all about him.
The Pixies aren't the Pixies without Kim Deal.
She was a big Deal for them.
Right. They’re the Breeders! :-)
No Kim, no Deal.
I wouldn't see the Pixies with anything but the original lineup. Anything else is just a tribute band.
@@davidtingley9978 Kim is the real Deal
This broken record again, come on give it a rest!
She was the bassist for the Pixies
Where is my Mind, Hey, Gigantic are worth a listen.
If you watch the documentary about the Pixies reunion you see Kim Deal is a very emotionally fragile woman who probably shouldn't have gone on that tour.
She ends up bringing her sister Kelly out on tour with her just for emotional support because it becomes too overwhelming for her. Especially the intense reactions to her from her fans.
Hardly the only ones worth a listen!
@@agonzo8438 you read my mind. Amazing band
Every Pixies song is worth a listen.
I forgot all about this song. I was a radio announcer all through the 90’s, and would dance around the studio whenever I played it (if no one else was in the room.) 😂
Kim Deal 💜
Kim Deal was just too sexy and cool
Always a pleasant surprise when this showed up on MTV. It was played fairly regular.
Check out 'Volcano Girls' by Veruca Salt. They were slammed for being a Breeders knock-off band, but they were pretty big and the song slays.
I just posted for her to check out "Seether" by Veruca Salt, lol They are cool plus Veruca Salt is just fun to say.
Yesssss!!!
@@garylindsey5174 When that song came out people were singing "Sounds like The Breeders!" in the chorus.
@@RolandDeschain1 When the Black Crowes came out everyone said they sounded like the Rolling Stones, even Keith Richards, but it didn't make them less awwwsum, lol.
L7 'When We Pretend That We're Dead' is another epic ladies grunge classic!
The guitar riff is simple but iconic.
The whole album this is from (Last Splash) is superb.
I cant believe you did this song!! No one has reacted to this. I loved this song when I was younger. Thank you!
Definitely surprised me as well.
I see "The Breeders" and I go thumbs up.
Dayton, Ohio rock and roll, y'all.
yes, the breeders and gbv!!
Love The Breeders ❤❤❤
This was one of my fave songs when I was like 13. Kim Deal is a lovely lass who I was stoked to meet. But yeah even mum knows the lyrics cos I used to play it all the time.
Check out the pixies if you want more alt 90s- it's very appreciated!
Wow. Been more than a minute since I heard this song! Always loved it though. Thanks for bringing that back. I'm digging your new Intro 2. Good job
I was in college when this song was released--love it.
Last Splash is one of my all time favorite albums!
No Aloha
I Just Wanna Get Along
Divine Hammer
Invisible Man
Do You Love Me Now
Roi
Drivin' on 9
Agreed! Great album. Divine Hammer is a dope song
Just love them. Such a unique band ❤️
Classic rock and old school reactions were nice and everything; but, it's extra nice to be moving on to other genres.
First heard it when me and some friends were drinking and watching MTV and the video came on. Still remember seeing that cannonball rolling thru the vid for the first time. Lol Great memories.
Groovy af! I always loved this song!
I loved this song back in the day. Remember watching the video on MTV while I was in college. The band having three women with just one guy on the drums. Interesting dynamic.
That bass live rumble's through your whole body. Great album!! Chill
There's a kind of high pitched whirring sound in your videos today. Song's not for everyone, but it's so creative, musically.
I was super excited to see Pixies but seeing The Breeders live a few years ago was one of the best shows i’ve ever attended 🙌🏼
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Awesome song! GIRL POWER! Love this song!
One of my favourite songs of the 90s and I wasn’t a fan of girl bands but The Breeders and Republica had a great impact as well as Sonic Youth with Kim Gordon’s vocals
In the shade, in the shaaa-aadde! Hail Gen X! Hail Rock!
90s were a peak of a time when such great peaking mastery came out
Saw em live summer ' 94, at Quonset Point RI. Loved it!
also in college when this came out. This video was in heavy rotation on the radio-TV school's on-campus TV network. This is back before "alt rock" and other labels, when they literally could not figure out how to categorize non-mainstream Top 40 music and simply called it "the college charts."
The lead singer is Kim Deal, who was formally with the ICONIC group The Pixies.
And great live. Hilarious on stage, as well.
I always thought this was really cool. Another good one kinda in this same lane, to me, is "Seether" by Veruca Salt. Plus Veruca Salt is just fun to say, lol.
I was a Music Director at a modern rock radio station. I froze and knew it was a hit.....
90s hype...Used to love this song
Smokin weed behind safeway and throwing bottles at cars type shit little bad ass skater kids back when the kid groups were just "rockers" and "rappers" lol
It's just Kim being Kim, providing eargasms to the public since the 1980's.
One of the decade's most defining songs. That bass line is just so epic, Josephine Wiggs was the queen of the four strings here.
Also in case you hadn't noticed: the lead singer and the lead guitarist are identical twin sisters: Kim and Kelly Deal.
Love this song!!
Yes, love the Breeders!!!
Still one of the 3 best live shows I've ever seen, next to Torche and Chavez. Great band, twins for the win!
One of my all time favorite songs and Bands!!!!
One of my favorite 90s tunes.
More drummers need to wear jock straps when playing the drums. Just saying. Jim ❤️
Oh yes great tune! If you haven't reacted to What's Going On by 4 Non-blonds, you should check it out
you might like "do you think of me" by them The Breeders...its a cool little love song vs this one...I love this one till the day I die...I still have their CD lol lol
"Do You Love Me Now?" is what you're thinking of
I herd this song about a hundred times and India comprehended this song the first time better than I would ever understand.
You should do Safari by the Breeders such a good song and this is one of my all time favorite bands! I Love all your videos you're awesome!!
"The bong in this reggae song"
Somewhere near or far there is a singer of the female persuasion by the name of Luscious Jackson with song called Naked Eye. You should consider reacting to that because I'm pretty damn sure you will love it.
Love 90s grunge!! India's like the Psychologist breaking down the issues of a Grunge Band!!
This was such a jam
Some kids from School Of Rock do a KILLER cover of this song.
All time great song
Try 88 Lines About 44 Women by The Nails
Amo esta cancion!!!!!!! .... TEMAZOOOO!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
Freakong love this song
Tune!
So iconic of the 90s
In those days (before the widespread internet, the breakup of the monoculture was happening), if we weren't at work the tv was always on, or almost always, wherever. And Mtv was everywhere - at the laundromat, the gym, the downtown boutiques, or somebody's house.
In those days, nobody I knew felt they had much to look forward to in life - starting a band was an act of desperation, really, and we were all 20-somethngs in a college town: privileged, educated, white people, with jobs. They made bad popculture movies that would become icons in order to target our demographic.
Yet there was still a widespread sense of loss for the youth then, at the idea that the only way to live a marginally 'comfortable life'at all was to sell out to the corporations, or worse, to try to hitch a ride on someone you knew who might have a 'way to a meal ticket' = sellout. And yes, a sellout was a kind of loss, despite potential financial gain, and 'sellout' meant different things to different people. So it was, that many of the authentic, creative people went punk and got into drugs because of this sense of seperation, and desperation not to be a sellout.
But grunge music - Pearl Jam, Nirvana, the Breeders, RHCP all showed they were just gonna do their own thing. And then , SO MANY people moved to Seattle, WA.
Still after all these years it seems the lyrics here are talking about all that. The Last Splash was the Breeders first hit. And they knew it was as likely as anything to be a hit in the Mtv rotation - it had that punch and that catchy riff, and the lyrics were sly and quirky. Idiosyncratic. The Last Splash seemed fresh, but also so predictable. I remember first seeing this and many others like it - Smashing Pumpkins, The Pixies, The Flaming Lips, Dave Matthews, The Presdients of the United States of America, Green Day: catchy, random, noisy with a beat you could wobble to. Most college kids in those days felt alienated and didn't know what to do about it. They didn't realize there was a Renaissance happening in HipHop. Well, the Black Crowes may have known, but their crossover attempts didn't bring a white audience to any of that. Neither did the plastic Vanilla Ice who may have been a fleshtone version of Max Headroom for all anybody cared.
Kim Deal was the bassist for the Pixies, They were groundbreaking and influenced a lot of the grunge bands. Try the Pixies song Gouge away.
Wow. It’s been a minute since I’ve heard this.
I loved this song.
wow, you really picked up a lot from that video/lyrics. i never thought of the song that way. i've read a lot about Kim Deal's time with the Pixies and she was really stifled creatively by the other member Black Francis, he even tried to fire her a year before the band's breakup. he thought of it as HIS band
He was the primary songwriter and singer. A band should be a and but you can’t blame the guy. I saw them with the original line up. Aces.
I love love love the Breeders!! The best of the 90s power punk pop! You should listen to Safari by them!!!
Back in the day? Nearly pulled the car over to turn my radio UP.
Welcome to the alternative scene of the 90s again. I loved this time and of course watches "120 minutes" on MTV like so many of my regeneration.
Songs/bands you might want to discover:
Miranda Sex Garden (my favorite band of the 90s) - Peep show - watch?v=GV3QZVp17rE
Adorable - Cut#2 - watch?v=sbFpfwrkZ4g
Seam - Bunsh - watch?v=dzbbacrQQM8 (although I like the song "Rafael" even more)
The sound quality unfortunately isnt the best, cause those videos have been recorded only on videocassette - better sound of course can be found by searching for the recordings on youtube.
Doubt you will try them out... but... it would be further discovering the music of that time period and there are plenty of wonderful songs from that time.
Wish you all the best :)
Yeah!!!!!!!!!
Love this song! I work out to this
I miss the 90s so much.... IDC what anyone says being a teen in the 90s was awesome...
Hey, I saw them do this live in 1995 at Bogarts in Cincinnati Ohio. I'm not convinced that the lyrics actually mean anything. I think they were just being creative with this one and having some fun. That was what made them a good concert band. They didn't take themselves too seriously. And part of the enjoyment of their shows was watching Kim and Kelly cuss at each other and flip each other off.
This was a weird album. I liked it. "Divine Hammer" is probably the closest thing to normal on it, musically. I do wish they had some heavier material, I think the sisters are fit for it.
Can I make a couple suggestions??
Ultra Vivid Scene “staring at the sun”
Sisters Of Mercy “this corrosion”
The cure “disintegration”
I love your videos but just now subscribed :)
You should check more female 90s alternative rock musicians as well
I saw The Breeders open for Nirvana in 1993.
Check out The Donnas "Take me to the backseat" and "Take it off"
The Western Musical Scale and format is hard to combat but these girls prevailed mightily!
I had just mentioned this band to a friend the other day who wasn't familiar. I forget the subject of the conversation, but my friend was surprised when I informed her that the band name is a slur for straight people among gay people. She didn't know that either...she had a chuckle (she's gay).
Song is lit 🔥
"Spitting in a wishing well"..............pretty much all you need to know.
No mention of the "Deal identical twin sisters" in the video nor comment section.... Lol....
Oh my youth....... :~~
Gosh, I miss the 90s.
Alt Rock!! 🤘🏼
Twins !!!
Lollapalooza 94 whoohoo
Should have picked a live version so you can see the real emotion
Gotta do some Veruca Salt!
Seether
Shimmer Like a Girl
All Hail Me
Volcano Girls
Number One Blind
If you get a chance, check out Divine Hammer, by this band.
The Great Kim Deal.
India: Also...they are Gods. You forgot that. But yes. ;)
Want To Trim You, Tannenbaum, was a parody of "Cannonball".
Try "Pretty deep" by Tanya Donnely !
The chords sound like Star 69 by REM
Girls can rock out.
I remember back in the 90's when this particular song by Garbage came out, a DJ on the radio said "There's love songs, but where there's obsession, I give you Garbage." Then she started to play #1 Crush. All these years later and that intro is still stuck in my head!

What the crap does that have to with The Breeders?
'93 was... interesting.
request please, nice and sleazy by The Stranglers. cheers
I miss the era of gangsta rap and alternative rock.
