-Our Intro Song "Feel the Love" From Alex's band
open.spotify.c...
You need to hit this whole album!
I agree 💯
Im fully agree
100%
Every song is Classic
You guys really need to just react to this whole fucking album. It's sheer brilliance from beginning to end.
Yeah it's a masterpiece and I was 17 when it came out. It was surreal modern rock that helped me become one of those hipsters in the 90s, like in the film Singles 😝🎸🤘
Idk if i'd call it brilliance. There are things about it that make me scratch my head, but many more that are very clever and creative indeed.
Pixies for me is like a reset button. When i get tired of listening to the same old music, i go listen to pixies to remind myself of why i listen to music in the first place.
Mindset is everything.
@@sandercohen5543 It's Musically Brilliant as it is INNOVATIVE, to several Genres that followed.
Anyone who spreads Pixies love is a good friend. Props, Zoe!
Pixies Doolittle is pretty much a perfect album..
100%
in my opinion Surfer Rosa,Bossanova and Trompe le Monde are also great,so different but still awesome
Yes! Glad you hit this. The Pixies were wildly inventive and Doolittle blew my mind when it came out. This is an album you need to hit
Read it as "mildly inventive" at first and was like "MILDLY!?" Then I reread your comment, lol
Pixies are so influential, which doesnt always translate to commercial success. They are THE late 80s/early 90s band!
Bone Machine, Gigantic, Debaser, Here Comes Your Man, Gouge Away for starters 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Bone Machine - YEP!, Gigantic - CORRECT!, Debaser - ABSOLUTELY!, Here Comes Your Man - YOU'VE BEEN READING MY DIARY!, Gouge Away - NOW YOU'RE READING MY MIND!
The 90’s would definitely NOT sound like it did without em! Truly a Band’s band!
Love this song. Monkey gone to heaven is a must.
This was one of the greatest handful of alternative records. All fantastic. The first two tracks are crazy.
If it wasn't for you young men , i would of never heard this song, man what a great song. Thanks
These are the pixies tunes you need to check out:
This monkeys gone to heaven
Stormy whether
Veloria
Gigantic
Also, this was David Bowie’s favorite band
And Kurt Cobain's favorite band too. The Pixies were very much musician's music.
Planet of Sound. Planet of Sound. Planet of Sound. Planet of Sound.
Alec Eiffel
Motorway to Roswell
Letter to Memphis
Gigantic
Wave of Mutilation
Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf)
Velouria
Digging for Fire.....
.....too many more to list.
Don’t forget Bone Machine!
Wave of Mutilation!!
David Bowie hit the nail on the head when he said that Santiago's guitar adds "texture" to their songs.
He also called the Pixies "The Psychotic Beatles." 🙂👏
Now that you truly discovered the Pixies, there's no turning back. You'll love the ride. I'd pay to watch your album reactions!
You'd have to pay anyway.
As a bass player in another life, I love this song. Kim Deal is a monster player. I know you guys loved Canonball by her next band after the Pixies, the Breaders.
Hit Surfer Rosa or Doolittle and youll see just how influential this band are. They inspired so many bands and even David Bowie described their stuff as "compelling music". Incredible musicians, very popular over here in the UK.
Excited you came back for more Pixies!! Like others have mentioned “Monkey goes to Heaven” or “Here Comes your Man” from this same album are also great and totally different sounds
Alex's comment that this is like grunge Talking Heads is on the mark. Pixies are proto-grunge. Black Francis and Kim Deal are so great on vocals, and Kim's bass is astounding.
Grunge Talking Heads is an absolutely perfect way to describe them
My favorite Pixies songs are the more tuneful ones, so with that in mind, if someone were introducing me to Pixies before I had heard them, probably "Velouria" would be the place to start. So I suggest that for your next Pixies song, and it's rather different from the 2 you've already heard, so it will also give you a sense of their range. I also like "Wave of Mutilation", "Gouge Away", and "Dig for Fire".
Pixies have a catalog full of cool shit. They are icons, to me.
Fantastic ! .. Just about my favourite Pixies song, along with "Debaser" .. Keep hitting Pixies, guys .. You won't regret it !
That's my fave also
I’ll add Caribou, Gigantic and Catctus.. or most of surfer Rosa to my list
This was my favorite band in high school. So many memories jamming to this tune in my friends parents garage.❤
Fucking brilliant song...Pixies are an S tier band. You guys must hit more of their songs.
Amen!
Wave of mutilation, bone machine, velouria, debaser, monkey gone to heaven, bam thwok, the hits don't fucking stop
Pixies are one of my top 10 bands. I discovered them in 1989 while listening to Surfer Rosa on cassette tape in a hotel bedroom. Listen to the entire album and had chills the entire way through! Been listening them ever since.
I saw the Pixies in London in 1990 and this song was, for me, the highlight of the night, which I wouldn't have predicted beforehand. It was utterly spellbinding.
Pixies are a major league vibe, You're doing something right when Kurt Cobain says they are a major influence and Thom Yorke says that their Doolittle album changed his life.
5 years subscribed… first time commenting. Most insightful analysis after one listen. Bravo laddies!
This was the cassette (!) every cool kid in college who went to shows and skipped class had. Took me a while to discover them. Doolittle is S-Tier.
The second greatest American band of the 80's (right behind The Replacements). One of their best songs.
One of my fave tunes of all time. This song changed my life at age 19
The whole album is S tier, landmark LP👌
Happy 2024!! I vote that Zoe gets to pick a song once a month, haha!! Love hearing The Pixies! 3 other songs I hope you react to i day are Here Comes Your Man, This Monkey's Gone to Heaven, and Debaser!!
The Pixies opened the door to Grunge. Fall of 1989 and this Album was a staple. The entire Doolittle Album is great. David Bowie claimed the Pixies were the only band that mattered in 1989. They were one of his favorite bands. Check out the song Debaser. Check the lyrics and meaning to the song as well
And of course, Cobain worried that Smells Like Teen Spirit would be heard as a straight ripoff of Pixies.
So glad you guys are hitting more Pixies.
This band was all over the soundtrack to my teenage years. Hell, I've never stopped listening to them and my own teenage kids are fans now.
Saw the Pixies in 1989 in Germany at a music festival while stationed with the U.S. Air Force. I had no idea who they were but they were great. I got the Doolittle CD and I was blown away. Iconic band.
Never get tired of this little gem. All of Doolittle is phenomenal.
They invented the "loud quiet loud" format
Amazing fucking track.
For reasons passing understanding, I missed most of what The Pixies put out when they put it out; mostly just caught the radio hits at the time.
Recently started a deep dive and...MAN - you guys are in for a fucking wonderful, trippy experience.
Have you heard anything from Beneath The Eyrie? It's from around 2020 and I recommend it. I like all their stuff but that one stood out among their reunion work
@@mattjohn4731I have not! Thank you for the tip/recommendation!
Adding to my playlist now. Killer song.
The Pixies were a delightful part of my early years. So many great great songs/albums and so inventive.
There so would never have been a moment of Nirvana without The Pixies.
My favorite song by the Pixies!
I have never heard of the Pixies, I like it!!
Their influence on Nirvana is on full display here.
Thank you Pump up the Volume and Christian Slater for introducing me to this band
Frank Black aka Black Francis is a mfg mastermind. Solo catalog is deep and wide. Self titled album is near perfect. Teenager of the Year is 4.5 stars. You guys are perfect for "I Want to Live on an Abstract Plain"
I LOVE this song!! This was on my mellow/bath music mix tape (yes, I said tape) back in the early 90's when I was in my early 20's.
They were such a great band. Incredible. And they have a wide range of stuff and several albums. Check out Gigantic, an early song by them and a fan favorite, where Kim takes the lead vocal. It's just an awful lot of fun.
After the Pixies, she went on to form the highly successful band The Breeders, and Frank Black had several hits in a solo career afterwards (he went by Black Francis in the Pixies).
Caribou is also a fantastic one and Kim does just the most beautiful descant harmonies up high, and I've seen it in concert and it was a magical moment with the whole audience and them interacting with the audience and they got the whole audience singing along.
ReeeePENT💥😝
Straight up goosebumps still all these years later. First saw the Pixies in college in 1987 and have been on board ever since.
David Bowie - "The first time I heard the Pixies would've been around 1988. I found it just about the most compelling music outside of Sonic Youth in the entire 80s."
"Caribou" is another good song to see how much in their own universe the Pixies were. Great stuff.
This is actually a deep cut that got love throughout the years. The album is wall to wall banger. Y’all need to hit it.
One of my favorite bands and albums - thanks!
Hey, is one of my all-time favourite songs.
Pixies and Dinosaur Jr were two of the biggest influences on the grunge sound, and both were formed in Western Massachusetts.
Oh yeah! I'm deep into both. But I find J more fun because he's got that authentic introvert melancholy where most rockers kinda hide those traits. Or something but yeah J is just so real, and gnarly musician. I had a mind-blowing conversation with him him comparing the 2 guitarists of the Stooges, and then 2 guitarists of the Damned!🎸🤯💥
Love Pixies so much! Please dive in more because I know you will be hooked.
Easily one of my top 5 bands of all time! As others have said, reacting to the entire Doolittle album is a must! But, they have so many other legendary songs to partake in as well. Welcome to this wonderful rabbit hole and thanks for doing this!
The bass player/backup singer Kim Deale later played guitar and sang in a new band she formed, The Breeders.
Not a huge pixies fan, but have always loved this track!!!
Not only did Pixies influence the birth of grunge, but they also had an impact on the alternative rock scene of the later '90s that was to come.
Doolittle is, IMO, a perfect album from beginning to end.
A definitive masterpiece of its kind.
Saw them three times back in the mid 80's...amazing band
Pixies are your favorite bands favorite band. And mine too. Cheers and Happy New Year.
Nah, that’s Steely Dan. ; )
I love thinking about how when the Pixies came out people HATED them. Like they made hair metal people feel rage. They were ahead of their time and changed music.
Haha about hair metal. Yeah Pixies weren't using much cosmetics, including Kim 🤘😝🎸
They didn't have long hair, much less Big hair haha so they were hated by the cosmetic vanguard
The Pixies are just a great underrated band! Check out Frank Black- Los Angeles! You loved the Breeders, you will love Frank Blank!
I was 11 years old when my brother gave me this album on a cassette (copy) I wore it out and the batteries in my Walkman. Influenced my taste in music from there on.
I love the diversity of your reaction choices. I have a 22 year old daughter and we share music downloads. Just this summer we saw the pixies and modest mouse together (other than missing Kim Deal it was an amazing show)
I always felt the pixies were an “acquired taste” .. I’m glad you acquired it
Classic track from a classic album
It's reaction time with the gents! Yes!
Happy New Year 🐈!
@@Shadowrider1872 Happy New Year!
Used to listen to this album in the ‘90s, it really grows on you.
"Loved the vocal response from THE GIRL." 😮😂
You guys for sure need to do the entire album. Every song on Doolittle will keep you on your toes. Top tier album.
This whole album is great, y'all should make this a Patreon album reaction!
One of the most perfect songs ever made
Doolittle is flawless. Essential album. Has not dated one iota. Still as fresh today as when it came out.
I can say their two most popular hits were "Here Comes Your Man" and "Dig For Fire" on KROQ here in Los Angeles.
Oh! Had no idea! Their video Dig For Fire/Allison aired on MTV but I never heard it on the radio unless maybe college radio. But I taped it on VHS. It has Pixies on motorcycles with side cars...
One of my favourites by PIXIES!
lol I dig how Andy turned the back end of radar into its own noun. 'a dar'
Do this whole album. You won’t regret it. This is best in that context.
Randomly quoting Pixies lyrics can make you life long friends or get you an appointment with a mental health professional.
The first time I heard this song was a video by 2 goofy college dorm girls "over acting delightfully" to the lyrics. I instantly became a fan of this song. Glad you chose it!!
I am guessing you are referring to the youtube video that was popular around 2007-2008, they also turned me on to this song and the Pixies in general
Same for me!😂 instant download
@@DeE-pt5lz yes!! So classic!!
...their expressions so good ;)
They still tour! Recently saw them perform in Lewiston, NY. At age 64, I’m glad I had the opportunity. The musical ground-breakers of our youth are disappearing. Go see ‘em while you still can.
I TOLD YA I TOLD YA I TOLD YA! Ok, after getting that outta my system, thanks 😃. And more Pixies! Full album of Surfer Rosa or Doolittle 🤘
Good choice to Start off. the New Year, The Pixies.
I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG thank you for reacting to it
Whenever Black Francis sings "hey" and "go uh", it's like a dog barking.
I saw the Pixies open for Love & Rockets in 1989 when I was 14! ❤
And they got booed in Philly on that tour..
They were horrible, which was disappointing because Doolittle is such a great album.
I fell in love! I've seen them 6 more times the past 30 years!!@@rogerpatton2242
Imagine trying to process this when hearing it for the first time at 15 years old. In fact pretty much the entire album was a mind-screw.
The whole 90s loud quiet loud thing in music came from the Pixies. Years after they broke up Rolling Stone said they were like the 60th most influential bands of all time.
Pixies concerts as basically a giant singalong.
Monkey gone to Heaven is the song from them I feel I've heard the most.
"Talking Heads become grunge". Love It!
This song rules day and night.
A couple others that are pretty different but come to mind for me are “I Would Hurt A Fly” by Built To Spill and “What do you want me to say?” by Dismemberment Plan.
This and Mr. Grieves are my favorites by them.
The Pixies never tried to portray themselves as "Rush" tier musicians. They forged a solid career with less than "Rush" tier skills and you have to take your hat off to bands that made the most of their skills and forged a sound of their own.
It's because their focus was never on musicianship. It was on songwriting and arrangement. The Pixies brought an entirely different skill set to the studio than did Rush. Their collective ear, their creativity (especially that of frontman and primary songwriter Charles Thompson, aka Black Francis), and their willingness to import the avant-garde and the esoteric into pop music structures (which is why Bowie loved them) were their strengths.
"Please - no chops."
I saw Frank Black and the Breeders live! It was everything!
Ayy the pixies!
Where is my mind, River Euphrates, Bone Machine, Gigantic, Cactus tree...Great Pixies songs. Give a listen.
The first line "Been tryin to meet you" , sounded inspired by Mick Jagger in "miss you".
GOOOOOOOOD AFTERNOON AND HAPPY NEW YEAR A&A FAMILY!!!!!
☮️💟♾️
Great choice! Since you guys did Pearl Jam and are more interested in 90’s alt/grunge/indie stuff, the influence of Pixies cannot be overestimated! They were late 80’s/early 90’s, Surfer Rosa and Doolittle are essential albums!!
Now it's time for Television's Marquee Moon!!
