Stuart Copeland (the sole American in the trio) is one of the greatest drummers in the history of rock. His rhythms are so complex and his playing so crisp and technical but still so funky and danceable. It really defines The Police's sound almost as much as Sting's voice.
Copeland is a truly amazing drummer. His timing is perfect and some of the off-beat and syncopated rhythms he plays are genius. And I can think of no other drummer that can work a hi-hat the way he does. Peter Gabriel is notorious for disliking cymbals - when he records he doesn't even let his drummer's set them up with their kits, but he had Stewart Copeland come to the sessions for So just to play hi-hat on Red Rain, one of my favorite PG songs.

Try Sting - Englishman in New York or Police - Don't stand so close to me. And to you Jayvee: You are keeping me up at night, it's 3.00 a.m. in the Netherlands. Walking on the moon by the Police is also fine too.
The video was filmed in Montserrat 14 years before the volcano erupted. AIR Studios was located there and many artists were recording their music at AIR during that time because of the beauty of the location and the fact that studio was one of the best in the world then.
Saw them the same tour with UB40 as their opening act in an outdoor general admission arena in Austin Tx. I was just a teenager so didn't mind the all day wait to hold places nor the crush of people at the front. It was an amazing show.
I saw them at Holleder Stadium in Rochester, NY for the Synchronicity tour. A Flock of Seagulls & the Fixx opened. Great day. Everybody was sunburned on one side of their face, depending upon which side you were sat.
If I had only 1 band to listen to for the rest of my life it would be the Police,Sting is an incredible songwriter and his band mates were just awesome musicians in their own rite.
FUN FACT: Sting used the lyrics "Do I have tell the story/ Of a thousand rainy days since we first met?/ It's a big enough umbrella/ But it's always me that ends up getting wet" in the song "O My God" from the Synchronicity album. He later used the same lyrics in the song "Seven Days" from his solo album Ten Summoner's Tales.
Thought it was a bold choice to include that verse in a love song like this. Where he spends the rest of the song telling us how wonderful this woman is. Is like they take a bunch of small, good ideas, and cram them together into one song. Like a collage. They dont quite fit together. Except they do fit, because that's what makes this a Police song.

"Can't Stand Losing You' is an epic early Police song. Love this video, song and the energy. Later stuff like King Of Pain and Wrapped Around Your Finger are very sophisticated but really good.
This isn’t just one of the best Police tracks but one of the best of the 80s. The layers are ridiculous, as is the way the pace changes. Brilliant composition and an awesome video. What’s not to like?!
Walking on the moon is intoxicating pop rock with reggae beat in tempo. And...Wrapped around your finger. Neil Peart the drummer from rush loved The police and if you listen to Rush a “new world man” you’ll hear some influence of the police in their song.
My boyfriend in high school made me a mixtape with this song, he was a crazy Police fan. It is kind of my defacto theme song to this day. However when I broke up with him, he made me one that featured So Lonely several times. It was kind of heartbreaking but sweet.

Sting is awesome not just in the music buisness but with everything else he has done with various charities too ive met him a long time ago he is a such humble and great guy
Stewart Copeland’s drumming was immaculate in this song. And you can never go wrong adding steel drums to make a song happier. Steel drums are the greatest musical instruments ever invented.
Truth. Any effort toward just intonation brings happiness. Western music has been imprisoned by equal temperament for far too long (that darn piano). Blues artists, later, Jazz and Soul groups tried to break the cycle to good effect. In the last decade, Earth received Jacob Collier from whatever planet it is he was beamed down from to further the message. Bless him. And steel pans, which often stray "out of tune" and are "unprofessionally" corrected toward "Just."
this song is soooo good 😋 No fan of Sting's solo career, but the Police are great! It probably has something to do with the fact that Stewart Copeland is a badazz drummer! (probably) 😋
I think Sting must have liked Montserrat because apparently he was there on holiday when Dire Straits were recording Money For Nothing and he ended up with his vocals all over that song.
Stewart Copeland is an amazing drummer. Musically the Police are A++++ They seemed to have a lot of fun at that time- and I’ve always felt the reggae with them.
