    The drummer is an American named Stewart Copeland, and you're right about his role. He's a great drummer, and has long been ranked in the top 10 best of all time near Neil Peart of Rush and John Bonham of Zeppelin.

      Copeland is light years ahead of Bonham. You can't even put them in the same universe. Bonham was a hard rock/blues guy. Simple. Copeland could play any style he wants, and better the best of each style.

      @bbiermanster 4 года назад +3

      @@michaelblaydes6037 Didn't mean to wade into a debate. I didn't say it was my ranking which agrees with you. That's just what you find in the music mags, and it's a way to compare Copeland to some that Jamel already knows are good. Bill Bruford and Ginger Baker should be in the rankings too, but are usually left out.

    • @sirjer73
      @sirjer73 4 года назад +1

      They all are great. And they all were influenced by the true greats and those are the jazz cats. Too many 2 mention but from big band,swing, hard bop, bop, free bop,modal and fusion the jazz drummers set the template!!!!. I will say Copeland along with the greatest in my mind Tony Williams have the most unique sound to their drum sounds.

    • @michaelblaydes6037
      @michaelblaydes6037 4 года назад +5

      Bill Bruford is the single greatest drummer of all time, hands down. Not meant to debate you, just tired of people overrating John Bonham. Many cite him as the greatest of all time, which is absurd. I love Zeppelin and Bonham was a huge part of their greatness, and he was a bad-ass drummer, but he was limited. And Copeland is one of the most underrated. Peart, on the other hand, pretty much gets the credit he deserved. He was one of the greatest, and is often considered so.
