This band's secret weapon is the snare drum. Notice that Stewart Copeland doesn't touch it at all during verses. But then he just spanks it on the chorus; it's part of why it's so punchy and catchy. Next Stops:
"Walking on the Moon"
"Message in a Bottle"
"Synchronicity II"
His drums are so well tuned, and mic'd well. Specially this album and Synchronicity.
Strung nice and tight!!
An amazing drummer.
Message in a Bottle gives me all the feels. :)
Watching him today at the Taylor Hawkins concert - he's still got it!!!
The soft parts are about longing for someone from afar, but the hype parts are about how happy you feel when you finally "get the girl," how alive you feel, as if you really could burst with love.
Jay &Amber, You'll love their "Roxanne", "So Lonely", "Spirits In The Material World" and many more!!!!
Sting- primary songwriter Sting (lead vocals, bass guitar), Andy Summers (guitar) and Stewart Copeland (drums, percussion)
Agree on So Lonely. Great song and the Reggae beats are top notch!
"Walking On The Moon" "Driven To Tears", "Don't Stand So Close To Me" and then check out Sting's solo work: "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free", "Moon Over Bourbon Street", "Fragile", "Englishman in New York", "Mad About You" and "Desert Rose" are all excellent.
Canary In a Coal Mine. Just my little add.
Definitely not one of there top tier songs
Unbelievable that you guys haven’t heard this amazing British band the drummer is in fact American 😂 this was one of my first vinyl singles I bought check other singles out plus Stings solo career
Englishman in New York
Fields of Gold
Glad you’re getting back to them enormously talented group formed in the late 70’s performing until 2008. Their Synchronicity album 1983 is a masterpiece. Need to check out the title track.
EXCELLENT album. Brings back amazing memories.
First album is their best, raw and unbridled. Do So Lonely and Next to You
Well Said!!
I have feeling that you’re talking about Synchronicity 2 which was a big international hit and not Synchronicity 1 which is the album’s opening track.
The Synchronicity album was huge back in '83! I wore out the cassette tape in college. lol!
The Police are one of the greatest bands of all time. Literally 95% of their songs are great.
100% factual comment
@Adam McKee - I hope no one ever asks you what the bad 5% is.😂 The ending! to this song is better than most songs - perfect.
@@jonstreng7850 Mother, and Behind My Camel.
@@jonstreng7850 It's so bad that it's good: ruclips.net/video/d56MfuZAfwI/видео.html
@@jonstreng7850 Indeed.... I continue my search for songs in that 5%🚔🎶💿
I consider Stewart Copeland to be the most talented percussionist in Rock after John Bonham and Neil Pearl.
He makes those hard syncopated rhythms look so easy. He was also so inventive.
Stewart, with Stan Ridgeway, doing Don't Box Me In.
💯
he created the theme tune for the tv show "the equalizer"... loved that tune.
If you love Stewart Copeland’s drumming, take a listen to his work with the band Oysterhead. It’s him, Les Claypool of Primus, and Trey Anastasio of Phish.
WRAPPED AROUND YOUR FINGER & KING OF PAIN, HUGE SONGS 💯
A couple of their best deep cuts.
I love "Wrapped around your finger"!!!
"Roxanne", "King of Pain", and "Don't Stand So Close To Me' are both great. Sting (the lead singer) has some great solo work too, like "Fields of Gold:, "Desert Rose", "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You", "Fragile", so much more. Also a famous part in the Dire Straits song "Money For Nothing".
DESERT ROSE is amazing 🌹🌹🌹
@Maureen Collins "I want my MTV!"
@@subwaygoddess1 😁
he closed the show with Fragile the other night
"If I Ever Lose My Faith in You" is my favorite.
The Police are simply great. They went from reggae influenced to expanding their sound. Sting is the songwriter and Stewart Copeland is one of the best drummers out there. React to "Walking On The Moon"
fantastic trippy song!
The reggae influence is what first attracted me to them.
One of my favorites!
My favorite Police song is Message in a Bottle. It's got a reggae feel and I know you guys will love it.
I love that one too! (And it's really fun to play on Guitar Hero with my brother, lol.) 😉 Definitely recommended for a reaction, Rob Squad!
Yes and its from 1979 Amber ,, Its 70s Baby
From the album Regatta De Blanc, which translates to “White Reggae” 😂
For me it's Andy Summers who makes that particular song special.
Such a great song! Sting and Sting and The Police are marvelous rabbithole!
This entire album (Ghost in the Machine) is 🔥🔥🔥
Still have it on cassette someplace
I would argue their first four albums released in the late 70s and the early 80s were all amazing: Outlandos d'Amour (1978); Reggatta de Blank (1979); Zenyatta Mondatta (1980); Ghost in the Machine (1981); and Sycrhonicity (1983). But like you Jim, I have a soft spot for Ghost in the Machine.
@@lbh002 Syncronicity dropped when I was a Senior, but all of their albums were on the radio in those days.
Great song. Try checking out Message In A Bottle, Walking On The Moon, Don't Stand So Close To Me, Synchronicity 2, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Can't Stand Losing You, Roxanne, Spirits In The Material World, De Do Do Do De Da Da Da. They have so many great songs!
"Wrapped around your finger" is amazing ❤️
@@user-or1ye3iz6d Agreed!
So Lonely, Next to You and Canary in a Coal Mine also come to mind. 👍
I can't think of a Police song that I don't love.
Same ❤
Mother from Synchronicity is close. It's more like a nightmare song.
@@leftcoaster67 It's fun to hear Andy sing. The Police song I can't stand is Born in the 50s.
Sting is awesome, amazing singer, great guru of yoga..."Roxanne" is another great hit by them, Think u'll love it...Thanx so much for great reaction, Peace
The Police is a classic group, the head singer goes by Sting, he has a beautiful voice. Check out his music. One of my favorite band till this day.
The Police were so big in the late 70's and early 80's. I saw them in 83 and this song and the album it comes from Ghost in the Machine are by far my favorites
I really love how Stewart Copeland’s drums were recorded.
A very unique style and sound.
Loved The Police for ~ 40 years and realised very late that the magic component was and always will be Stewart Copeland's drum.
Finally more The Police videos!!! Stewart Copeland is one of the grestest drummers of all time. You shoul check out “Message in a Bottle”, “So lonely”, “Spirits in the meterial world”, “Bring on the night” (this one has a great guitar intro), “Truth hits everybody”, Roxanne”, “Walking on the moon”, etc etc etc 😅
gotta remember that these songs your listening to now are like 40 years old that allmost half a century and they still sound as fresh today as they did way back then.
One of their harder songs: Synchronicity II
The Police are a deep rabbit hole!! 🔥🔥
My favorite indeed!!!!
The brilliance of The Police is the juxtaposition of the cheerful reggae beat and upbeat music with devastatingly sad lyrics ("Must I always be alone?!"). A great song and a companion through some lonely times.
Oh my goodness! There are so many amazing Police songs! So Lonely, Roxanne, King of Pain, Don’t Stand So Close to Me, Canary in a Coal Mine, Synchronicity… I know there are so much more I’m forgetting. Then even after you go through the Police, Sting has an equally brilliant and massive catalog to contend with. I promise you, not a second of that deep dive would be wasted ❤️
You can't go wrong with this group! Great band!
You guys should react to Sting as a solo artist. He has one of the most incredible voices and has a diverse catalog of music. "Fields of Gold" is beautiful and melodic and is one of Sting's best songs.
I agree. I also love his "Englishman in New York".
Fields of Gold was my wedding song 😊
I always recommend "The Wild Wild Sea" from the Soul Cages album.
"Fortress Around Your Heart" convinced me that his solo career was going to be just fine.
Sting is one of the best musicians, one of the best lyricists of all time. You do need to get more into the Police discography - I recommend "Demolition Man", "Walking on the Moon", or "King of Pain" next - but Sting's solo stuff is incredible. "Shape of Your Heart" is magical, as is "All This Time", "Mad About You", and "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You". It's all brilliant. The other two guys in the band, btw, are Andy Summers (guitar) and Stewart Copeland (drums).
Definitely! I think “King of Pain” is one of my favorites by them.
I agree but just for pure fun I like Canary in a Coalmine. Just makes me smile.
Omg, I just saw Stewart Copeland and Gaz perform this with Foo Fighters on the Taylor Hawkins tribute!!! RIP Taylor, and you guys NEED to see that!!! It was literally like 5 hours (yeah, maybe when the kids get a little bigger! 🤣🤣🤣) but it was one of the most spectacular, heartwrenching, uplifting things EVER!!!) and EVERYBODY was there!!!
I just saw that too. Stewart was amazing and Gaz did a fantastic job of singing this like Sting.
I so teared up when Shane Hawkins killed it on FF Hero. Stewart Copeland is always fantastic.
Watched the entire concert front to back (nearly 6 hours long, but didn't seem like it at all). Amazing show. When Dave started to lose it during "Times Like These" it was heart wrenching. It was awesome seeing everyone from music royalty turn out for Taylor!
One of the top concerts I have ever been had the privilege of attending. 💕. Wish y’all could have seen them live.
I saw them April 1982, great show!!
I saw them during the reunion tour. Way in the back.
@@surlechapeau Saw them in 1982 as well in Champaign, Illinois.
"Roxanne" and the Movie "48 hours"
Seriously, you cannot go wrong with their music. Five albums, that's it, but man, what an amazing band they were, and were even better live.
Stewart Copeland's drumming is magic. This group has tons of good music to dig into. Enjoy
Wrapped Around Your Finger by The Police is a haunting little treat.... Would love to see y'alls reaction
Must do Sting as an artist. Fields of Gold,
I remember when when you had less than 3,000 subscribers and now you have 289k. It only goes to show how popular and welcoming you both are. I’d be interested in finding out how many new viewers you get everyday. Keep up the great work Jordan and Amber. This is one of the best parts of every one of my days.
This is still a cool song! "Spirits in the Material World" is still cool too 😁
As teachers... you must listen to "Don't Stand So Close To Me"... its an uncomfortable scenario, but they crafted the song so well... and fun fact, Sting (the bassist extraordinaire) was a school teacher himself, is well versed as an avid reader and makes often references to classic literature. They will always be the quintessential reggae Ska, pop band of the 80's. Simply incredible musicianship for a three man band. Sound easily is classified as epic.
I was looking in the comments for someone to mention he was a teacher....👍
@@twilarolff8021 The lives artists lived before becoming stars often shape their musical 🎼 tones, proclivities and awareness. Sting has a mind and wasn't afraid to seek a deeper feel in his music.
The "Lolita" reference in the song is sometimes missed by folks(Nabakov)📚🍎
I hit the like in the first 5 seconds of your reaction cuz I KNOW you're gonna like this!
The Police became globally popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s. They were part of the British new wave scene & they played a style of rock influenced by punk, reggae & jazz. They have had a lot of hits such as "Roxanne", "Can't Stand Losing You", "Walking On The Moon", "Don't Stand So Close to Me", "Message In A Bottle", "Every Breath You Take" etc. Sting went on to have a big solo career.
You should also react to Police's "Spirits In the Material World"
Message in a bottle is a good one from the police too
Such an incredible group. They're in my top five favorites, easily. Anything they did is worth listening to, but Synchronicity is one of the best albums ever.
They were the #1 band in the world when they broke up...were my favorite up to that point. They all went on to do more great things solo, especially Sting, but one wonders what amazing music they could have come up with from even one more album. Synchronicity was in a world of its own...
They are definitely one of my favorite groups of all time. I love Stewart's drumming. One of the best drummers of all time. Sting's poetic writing has always been amazing. I love almost all of their songs. This happens to be my favorite song and one of my favorite albums of all time. The Ghost in the Machine albums is a masterpiece and one of the few albums I love in it's entirety.
Sting has one of the most distinct voices in music... That was why he was so successful as a solo artist after The Police split up.
Solo songs by Sting - 'If I ever lose my faith in you'... 'Englishman in New York' ... 'Desert rose'... 🔥🔥
I saw Sting in Vegas this summer. Looks and sounds amazing as ever. Nothing Like the Sun is one of my favorite albums of all time. So many gorgeous songs with incredible musicianship. He does an amazing version Jimi Hendrix’s Little Wing.
Nice. Best rock trio of all time. Every album is great, and different. All three members are top level musicians.
I’ve just came across your channel and am obsessed and blessed, to watch your joy with each other, the music, the lyrics and your family. ❤️🏴
Enjoy the stay. It’s a cool channel and they’re always so upbeat, even when a song doesn’t necessarily grab them.
@@kevinmcfarlane2752 thank you 😊
I feel like Amber is my spirit animal. Her interpretation of lyrics, love for an 80’s tune and a power ballad 😍
WELCOME TO THE FAM!! 👍😃❣️😃👍
check out them reacting to movies
Three best musicians and writers. Stewart Copeland, drummer, has been on tons of others albums!!!
These guys are soooo good! One time in the early 80's, my boyfriend and I took a trip from Indiana to Arkansas, and the only music we had with us was their album (tape) Reggatta de Blanc, it's all we listened to for the entire trip. And that's how I came to love The Police! We need more reactions with this incredible trio.
Oh yeah, Don't Stand So Close To Me is a classic, as are Walking on the Moon, Message in a Bottle, Roxanne, So Lonely, Wrapped Around Your Finger and many more. The Police were awesome in that they mixed many styles to form their own. You'll hear almost everything from punk rock to reggae in their sound. Plus, Sting can sing! He has a lot of solo stuff to check out as well, but ya gotta do more Police! Also, Jay is right about their energy- they were rambunctious, playful and were known to wrestle and bust each other's chops all the time. Seems like every interview I ever saw with them, they were throwing stuff at each other, smacking each other and being too much.
Still one of the best bands I’ve ever seen live!!
Best record of 1982 IMHO. Love this recording!
Just looking at Sting in this era takes me directly back to high school...in a good way, not the normal way...LOL!
This song is incredible. The lyrics are actually sad. It is about an unfulfilled love. He doesn’t get the girl. He never gets up the nerve to tell her how he feels. Every person can relate. That is one of the things that is so great about this song. It is doleful, melancholy, happy, hopeful, romantic, fun, rocking, all in one song. It is pure genius.
Though I've tried before to tell her
Of the feelings I have for her in my heart
Every time that I come near her
I just lose my nerve
As I've done from the start
Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on
Do I have to tell the story
Of a thousand rainy days since we first met
It's a big enough umbrella
But it's always me that ends up getting wet
Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on
I resolve to call her up a thousand times a day
And ask her if she'll marry me in some old fashioned way
But my silent fears have gripped me
Long before I reach the phone
Long before my tongue has tripped me
Must I always be alone?
Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on
ALOT OF EMOTIONS RUNNING IN THIS SONG!!!! LOVE, LOSS, HOPE, SHAME FOR NOT HAVING THE NERVE TO TELL YOUR TRUE FEELINGS!!!😮😮😮😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤
God I can so relate to this.
Oh my giddy aunt! You two are frickin' adorable. I love watching your reactions. You really appreciate good music when you hear it.
When I watch you guys, the world feels like a happier place.
I thank you dearly for that.
You're both a real tonic for the soul.
X
The police was a great band, and Sting the lead singer wrote from experience, he was a teacher before making it in the music industry and the song " don't stand so close to me" is a take on that, "every breath you take" is a song about stalking, other songs are "Roxanne" and he also went solo with hits like "Fields of gold"
One of the greatest songs ever done. I was a teenager when this came out and was going through some brutal stuff with my family. This song really helped me pull through what was happening and I was able to disconnect and escape if only for a couple of minutes.
Thank you for reviewing such a masterpiece.
This is my absolute fave from the Police and it brings back so many teenage memories! The drumming from Stewart is awesome as ever. And that bass ... ! You can't go wrong with any of their songs imo. x
This was filmed on monserrat where there is a recording studio that you also saw where artists came to record.
Did you hear and see the steel drums on the back of the truck?
Message in a bottle, don't stand so close to me,walking on the moon, wrapped around her fingers, every breathe she takes.
Roxanne, Spirits in The Material World, Message In A Bottle, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Voices Inside My Head, Every Breath You Take, Walking On The Moon. So many great songs by this phenomenal trio.
Whenever you talk about Sting, whether it is with The Police or solo, you are taking a step up in creative genius.
Finally, one of the best bands ever. The Police are amazing and this song is classic. More Police please. "Synchronicity II", "Wrapped Around Your Finger", "King of Pain", "Roxanne", "Spirits in the Material World", "Every Breath You Take", "Message in a Bottle". Sting has an amazing solo catalog as well.
Great band and I'm so glad you're experiencing them again. Their album 'Synchronicity' was one of the biggest albums of the early 80's. It featured some of the band's biggest hits --- 'Every Breath You Take,' 'Wrapped Around Your Finger,' and 'Synchronicity II.'
Since the two of you are teachers, you'll appreciate 'Don't Stand So Close to Me'
Also, Sting, the band's creative leader, has had a long, successful solo career with hits like 'If You Love Somebody, Set Them Free' (which he wrote in response to the popularity of 'Every Breath You Take') 'All This Time,' 'If I Ever Lose My Faith in You,' and his masterpiece, ' 'Fortress Around Your Heart.'
The Police were tremendously popular, but when Sting went solo, his songs and music took off into the stratosphere! Please do more Sting songs -, "If You Love Somebody, Set Then Free", "Be Still my Beating Heart", Fortress Around Your Heart", "Fields of Gold", "Shape of My Heart", "Mercury Falling", and the list goes on and on......
if you didn't live through this era you just have no idea. Sting / The Police ruled the airwaves...they influenced so many other artists from this generation and beyond.
*This was a really good era for them and music. Hope you both have time to react to more by them. Because there are many more Police songs to try: Walking On the Moon__King of Pain__Roxanne__Message in a Bottle__Don't Stand So Close To Me__Can't Stand Losing You__Wrapped Around Your Finger__Synchronicity II(2)__Spirits in the Material World__De do do do...De da da da__Invisible Sun__So Lonely__Driven To Tears...to name some.*
One of my favorite Police songs, I'm glad you hit this one early. There was actually a lot of dissention and argument within the band as the lead singer did not always get on well with the drummer. Both of them were top notch though. "Don't Stand So Close to Me", "Roxanne", "Message in a Bottle", "Walking on the Moon", "Every Breath You Take", "King of Pain", are just a few of their great songs.
When The World Is Running Down.
This is one of those songs that defines the 80’s
“Roxanne” and “So Lonely” were their first hits. That’s where the journey started. MUST LISTEN!
You should much more Police Jay and Amber🙂
Synchronicity by them is another great listen.
SKA & REGGAE are integral part of most music from the 80s. You will hear that beat with most of Police's songs. My favorite Police song SO LONELY
Fragile and Fields of Gold by Sting as a solo artist are exquisite. He is an outstanding writer and arranger. But the Police played the soundtrack of my young adult years. Brash, spare, fresh, sad, hopeful....
And Copeland's percussion is still innovative and Magic, magic, magic.
Cool band!! Try Donnie Iris “Ah! Leah!”!!🤘🔥
Great song, timeless. Music that is musical ! Fun fact, the guitar player actually gave Hendrix a jazz guitar lesson in London
when he hit the scene there.
A lot of their music is very bright and catchy, but all of their songs have at least just a little shadow running through them--some much darker than others. This might be their happiest song, but still in the bridge ... "Must I always be alone ...?" Fantastic trio, musically. They did so many interesting things that we weren't used to hearing in pop music. Love this band.
I was fortunate enough to catch Sting in concert backed by a full orchestra a few years back...by far the best concert I've ever been to.
Great song!
Please react to two amazig songs
"Silent Lucidity" from Queensryche
"Brothers in Arms" from Dire Straits
Love the Police! Their Synchronicity album was fabulous! Sting has such a great voice and such talent in songwriting. Spirits in the material world is one of my favorites.
The Police dominated the early 80s! They were huge! Sting is just on another league! All of it culminating with "Every Breath You Take" in 1983, which is one of the biggest songs of all time! Sting then went solo, and his first two solo albums were great as well! And consider this.... All that awesome sound, comes from just 3 guys, just like Nirvana later in the 90s. Just great musicians!!!
"Roxanne" "Message in a Bottle" "Don't Stand So Close" "Synchronicity 2" "King of Pain"
The Police was sooo great in the 80’s! Yes, Don’t stand so close to me , Wraps around your finger, anything from Synchonicity!!!!
Jay Train Train By The southern Rock band BLACK FOOT From 1979 is a Huge banger .. I know you will DIG IT Big time Enjoy .. Amber its 70s Baby
The police have a lot of great songs, a few of my favorites are "walking on the moon" and "synchronicity 2"
Great songs! Love Synchronicity 2!
Stuart Copelands drumming was an inspiration to many drummers in this era!!
My very first cd player hooked up to big ass speakers in my tiny living room.....Roxanne was the first played. Holy cow!!!! The clarity of Sting's voice was magical. Wonderful memories of the 80's.
The lead singer of The Police is Sting. He has an AMAZING solo song called "Desert Rose". PLEASE watch the original video. It's amazing. 🌹❤️❤️❤️
"Dream of the Blue Turtles" has a lot of great songs on it. That may be Sting, but still, great.
Many great singles too.
'I love 'Fortress Around Your Heart and" Seven Days "
@@terrimilka6313 Great songs! Me too.
Whenever I think of truly iconic sounds in music...sounds that you KNOW who it is that's responsible the second you hear it...that SNAP of Stewart Copeland's snare comes to mind immediately. It's singular.
This band was a monster group in the 80’s seen them 4 times in concert one of the most exciting bands ever!
I can’t believe you’ve only done Melissa Etheridge only once. The Way I Do, is a banger, please.
Roxanna is a great song 🎧 by the ( Police )
Roxanne
The Police were definitely one of the best bands of the 80`s and Sting`s later solo work is also extremely worth watching.
"Wrapped Around Your Finger", "King of Pain", "Message in a Bottle". They made so many great songs.
Have you watched the video with SRV and his brother Jimmy playing pipeline together on a double guitar.....gotta see !!!
Outlandos D'Amour, Regatta de Blanc, Zenyatta Mondatta, Ghost in the Machine, Synchronicity - The Police were a full on Super Group. Pick an album, pick a track - almost every single song is fantastic.
The Police may have been a "super" group, depending on your taste, but they were not a "supergroup," an all-star band formed by members of previously successful acts, like say, the Cream, the Spencer Davis Group, Crosby Stills & Nash, or Asia.
It’s a great story of how much band mates love each other. Sting and Copeland remain super close and are probably the best fiends in a band since Lennon and McCartney.
The Police are a 3 piece band at it's core. They had guest musicians join them on many of their songs.
Sting is the lead singer. He taught elementary English and was a soccer coach from 1974 to 1976 at St. Paul's First School in Northeastern English town of Cramlington, before the Police took off and became famous. 😊
After the Police ended Sting went on to sing on his own to great success. He also became an actor with dozens of music videos, TV shows, and several movies to his credit.
You should do the synchronicity songs🙂
Another great 80's band with many ,many hits .... fantastic drummer .
The Police "Don't stand so close to me" and "Synchronicity" "Wrapped around your finger" original videos. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The Police are HUGE talents. Sting is a musical genius. You have a wonderful journey ahead of you exploring their catalog of music. Sting is a solo artist & actor. 💕😎💋
