Great review and analysis as usual ! The ladies have got it spot on ! "Lovebites EP II" is essentially a sequel to their first ever EP "Lovebites EP" (released back in 2017). This new video shows (deliberate !) glimpses of their first song and first ever MV from that older EP - "Don't Bite the Dust". To me, "Unchained" is a continuation from the theme of "Don't Bite the Dust". Figuratively, the band has gone from a "stifling" environment to getting themselves "unchained" and that comes with the freedom of doing things "anywhere they want". It's a metaphor of how far the band has progressed and evolved since 2017. Compared to "Don't Bite the Dust", which is an awesome song in itself, "Unchained" is next level with its seamless and innovative blend of AOR/heavy rock, speed-power metal, and a bit of thrash at the breakdown just before the solos. It's nostalgic, and yet a very contemporary sound at the same time. Well done Lovebites !! Looking forward to my new EP arriving !
Fami and Haruna are just too cute and vibrant! Miyako is hopping! Asami has her usual deadly charm and sings a chorus that gives me chills! And finally, Midori's silhouette is that of a superhero illustration if ever there was one! LOVEBITES!!!!

I think that a man of your musical knowledge would really love the 3 part series of videos from 'Miyako Metal TV', where she shows & explains how she writes, & arranges their songs. How she writes the melody, guitars, keyboards, bass, drums, & strings etc.
They are really fascinating, and incredible to watch. Would love to see you react to them. They are on her channel.

They are so good I get teary-eyed. Yes, watching Miyako jump around made my day. By all accounts Lovebites completely embraced Fami from day 1. Interestingly, she still addresses them using the forms of address that a younger person uses with their elders. But they clearly treat her as an equal.

Excellent analysis again for this great new song. Haruna's smile before her solo... 😍❤ I like the breakdown in the middle and the catchy chorus. Saw Fami doing her old signature move of kicking that left leg up, some hopping from Asami and Miyako, everyone was having fun in this video. 🤘🐺🤘

I've been thinking that Momo-metal has really been coming out a lot lately too! I think that she and Fami have gotten so much cuter as their confidence has been growing in their respective bands. Though I have to say that Haruna is awfully cute in this too! They just all really shine in this MV! 😍

A good break down of this new song. I watched the premier today. I thought it was an good Lovebites song that has a vibe of Don't Bite the Dust, which might be because the first song on Lovebites EP was that song and this is the first song on Lovebites EP. II coming out August 28th. My favorite part of the song is at 2:27 where there is a cool change up and then through the Midori and Miyako guitar solos which never disappoints

Miyako magic, the only new song I have noticed they have done is not from their new EP nor any album but is on their Live show "Memorial for the Warrior Souls" and the song is called "Call for Justice" a song not available on any EP or album. I preordered the album and expected it by Aug 28th

Excellent reaction. Tnx. Shortest (only 4:32) but sweetest song. Great composing, catchy lyrics, flawless execution. For next 4 song of the new EP, I think they will have one ballad(-ish) and I think they save the best for last, no. 5 will be the best.
The chorus is not really in a "major" key. It's a key shift 1/2 step down, but the particular "upward-moving" chord progression makes it sound if the key modulation that happens is upwards. This kind of verse-to-chorus modulation often tricks people into thinking the shift is from a minor to a major key.
In the absence of Band-Maid in the UK, I took myself off to see Lovebites in London earlier this month. It was great show with a lot o great songs. Although it was metal, the twin lead guitar solos remind me of the twin lead guitar rock bands of the early 1970s- Wishbone Ash in the UK, Allman Brothers, Johnny Winter And etc in the US. The other thing about this video, was the fact that it had so many similar elements to recent Band-Maid videos- Sense (Light beams), Bestie (White back lighting) etc. The song arrangement itself was in some ways similar to Shambles- half time drops etc.
the MV is already so good (crammed with goodies), live it will be a blast, the hook is very radio/mainstream friendly but everything else is actually too heavy for standard radio but close, you never know, something like this can go through the roof. Musically, Lovebites pushes all the buttons that I like, I think Fami has really brought a fresh, youthful wind, the band has a great dynamic, everyone is experimenting and doing new, unexpected things. I am very satisfied, I like Victor but Loveites is an international band, Victor needs to step on the gas or let daddy take over, the girls are on a roll
I was hoping we might get a new song on their recent European tour but alas not at the 2 shows I went to. So as far as I know this one hasn't been played live yet. 👍👍👍👍

I had to come back and add this comment: I've been trying to figure out what it is that is so special about this song, and I got it. It is a gospel song. The transition from minor to major to start the choruses, the switch in cadence, Asami's soaring vocals and even their body language, are straight out of a gospel revival. It all fits with the theme of "Unchained". This cannot be a coincidence.

No, this song is really new! My guess is, that they'll play this song in Tokyo (Sep 1st, 2024), probably not in Korea (August 10th/11th, 2024), definitely not in Europe. Maybe in the US (September after Tokyo).
It took me 2 days for this song to really take a hold of me, I loved it right away, but for some reason I wanted to write it off as an experiment in commercial rock or something. As of right now, I just can't get enough of it, everything about it is amazing. Listening to it, I can't wait for those Bass pops and that double snare drop, huruna is doing. And the guitar solo madness is just pure Lovebites Fire.

On the European Tour songs played was from the first EP than Judgement Day album. So No Unchained live for us. Maybe the Korea, Japan or America get the premier. Not us in 🇬🇧🇪🇺.

This is a very good song, very technical, catchy and very lovebites-ish. It's very much like a Don't bite the dust part 2 with a little bit of golden destination.
They put a lot of good stuff in this song, I don't think they need synth-stuff though. If I could be nuanced and picky, I would prefer they stuck with their guitar solos and used less synth, only used background keyboards like they do in 70% of their songs. I love their Piano background tracks and the keyboards they put in their songs.
This song in particular has too much synth sound, I don't think they need it because it takes away from how great they are. Sometimes Less is more.... I still love the song and Asami sounds amazing. I like the Chorus, but a chorus for me at least doesn't make the song good. I'm a metalhead, and the chorus matters much less than a great riff or a full band break down after a slow build up.
I have no doubt that they will make it better live in the most spectacular way, like they always do. The Lovebites MV real estate is the most expensive real estate, more than any other band, meaning they only put out a small amount of MV for how many great songs they have. I would love to see an MV for Dissonance, SSS, Wicked Witch, Signs, Above the Black Sea, Break the wall and the list goes on & as they could do an MV for 90% of their Music and that would be amazing!! But that's what I mean as expensive real estate, too many good songs did not become an MV.
Judgement day is a perfect Lovebites album, even when measuring it against the previous lovebites albums. It has everything I like about lovebites and more, the song My Orion had a catchy chorus and keyboards that I thought was a great touch and a great take on a lovebites sound, Even though some people say "My Orion" was too poppy for them, I still loved it for what it is, an extremely well put together song with outstanding guitars and amazing keyboards, with amazing vocals.
I guess what I'm trying to say is in a sea of incredible lovebites songs, this one doesn't do nearly as much as other songs do, this is what I came to after 12 or so plays and a lot of time to think about it. I never have a perfect opinion about anything, and I know that, but I do spend a lot of time retrospectively to time to consider and re-evaluate my thoughts. Who knows, maybe I will change my mind again, It is a killer song and the Guitar solos are outstanding as ever.
Don't get me wrong, I still love this song. It's so damn cool in many ways. I am still listening to it.
People differing perceptions are a curious thing. The chorus is absolutely the bomb for me in this song, and gave me chills right away. And I haven't even noticed any synth type sound yet. Then again, it usually takes several listens on various sound systems for me to get the full picture of a new song. I love the fun direction they took with this one, and I agree with your sentiment that a live performance, as with most any LOVEBITES song, is likely only gonna be better!

I loved the breakdown in the middle, and before they pick it up again there is a synth beat, which I don't know why they would use that, it's not bad It's just strange for lovebites considering their history.
@@anthonypowell6234 Okay, Just like everything else this band does. It just kept getting better and better. Now I can't stop listening to it. What an amazing song. I think I'm always a critic for certain things even though I loved Judgement day album out of the box, that also grew on me after the fact. The song that grew on me the most is probably Glory to the World, I always enjoyed it, but over the last 2 years I really came to love it.
That was refreshing. A very good song. More music. Fewer power chords. I know that Miyako was told to step up her game with songwriting. I would say she succeeded.

Excellent analysis. I tried (not particularly hard) to find a LOVEBITES gallop NOT written by Miyako. I can’t. If someone can find a contender I’d be keen to see it. Nobody heard this until yesterday…except the band and production team.

Miyako has been seen bouncing and dancing on stage with Dragonforce - look for Farming Simulator Northampton (in casual) or Cardiff (in white - video from Jack Stanley)! (audio is not the best, though ;) )
And here I thought we were going to get a kickass Van Halen cover😂. Great song, but not exactly what I was looking for. Was hoping for more heaviness.
