Every few years I dig up the trilogy for a run through. I can do a completionist run in about 4-5 hours. Every time I finish I still marvel at how enjoyable an experience it is and still holds up.
Been playing this game (not speedrunning) since I was like 12 and it came out, and I've never seen that upper lava tube area where you built up speed with blue eco.
Thank you! I'm unsure on what part you are on about exactly, so I'll explain a couple: -to enter the Citadel itself, there is a barrier in front of the door, that normally you have to activate the teleporter to lower. This TAS avoidd that by just jumping on top of the barrier and using it as a ramp into the next area -to enter the lift at the top, directly after the barrier jump mentioned before, the only requirement is to have broken the light in front of the door, so entering it is just a matter of breaking that light!
@@youpisuper Yeah, Story-wise you have to, as you can't normally reach that area otherwise, so they didn't actually link the door to them, only to the light thing 😂
Yeah! The very final jump above the door at the end isn't possible without Blue Eco, so Jak heads back to get the Blue Eco from earlier in the level in the shortcut.
Unfortunately not, the giant floating ball of Eco can't be interacted with. I did however hang around the area that the collectible White Eco is first spawned, making Jak interact with it as soon as possible
It's a trick called Idle Deload. I can't explain it as well as ThaRixer has done, so I'll link you to the point in the video that goes through these. ruclips.net/video/59dhHVL8Frs/видео.html
It's the same way the Sly 1 TAS was done. This is each individual Segment recorded on its own and spliced together, each segment done with manually written inputs. Not quite by hand in the normal way, but not with pre-recorded inputs either.
@@Snugggles That was a fast response, thanks. I remember trying using it back in the day but it desynced too often that I gave up. Nowadays using a random nightly build from august 2022.
@@Sestain no problem! I just happened to be checking at the time 😂yeah, from what I can tell, the nightly builds are doing quite well, fixing some of the desync issues, but they are lacking a few things that I find useful like allowing multiple inputs for one controller - or at least I can't figure it out
@@Snugggles I use a real controller to place inputs and for me it works just fine when pressing start and cross at the same time as an example. Hopefully latest nightly fixes desyncs or some of it (read changelogs and it seemed to fix somethings related to resetting/loading a state).
It is faster than anything on the Leaderboards right now, but this is not a person playing the game; This is a sequence of inputs recorded and replayed using Tools, like being able to advance the frames one at a time, to get inputs as perfect as I wanted them
For him to be classed as dead, Jak needs to either land on something solid to start his death animation, or fall into a death plane. When getting burned like that, Jak is supposed to locate the closest ground to snap to, but the entire ground is a damage zone, so there's no ground for him. The boxes do count however, and can cause this snap to happen, but by maneuvering a specific way when near them, you can avoid these checks from working fully. It's one of the hardest parts of the run for humans due to how precise you have to be.
They call this cheat. My cousin did this. I borrowed him my jak and daxter. He told me he beat the game. just in two days. Meaning he did this. Lazy to play the story.
Volcanic Crater and Lava Tube are so dope in this
4:19 literally burned Jak and daxter to a crisp
This is why we practice major skips before attempting to speedrun.
Dark Jak? Is that you?
The ramp from Lava Tube over the door to Gol and Maia’s Citadel was actually insane. Beautiful TAS, what a great watch.
Saoms: Jak you gotta stop Gol and Maia
Keira: I'm making chili in like 15 mins
Jak:
No really, that was absurd, good job!
7:45
Klaww: *we fight now*
Jak: nah *I'll pass*
I love all the little bits of flair that are put in! the dancing to the lava tube music is such a mood
The splits for this must be unreal. Crazy Crater movement, wild Mt. Pass drunk cam, and other insane skips through the whole run
*Awesome to see!*
I’ve already watched this like 6 times, such an amazing run!
It's insane that the TAS "only" shaves off 1.5 minutes off of the current WR as of 8/8/22; tells you how insane the run by OutrageousJosh is
Josh didn't have WR at that time. The_Stellar did
Whoa! Put in on ice, big guy..
Does he mean the lava burns he'd suffered?

From memory, neither had I! It was only thanks to the Speedrunning Community that I even knew that it existed
I dont remember it either lol. Even after seeing plenty of speedruns.
sameee
I just looked ans holy shit I have never seen that before in my life wtf. I watch alot of speedruns too which is crazy.
God I miss these days of video games. loved this series so much
16:45 I love how Kiera still gets some credit
I miss when games looked like this more often.
7:19
My worst nightmare when I was young.
Good to see jak swim away for once
One of those "oh I gotta see this" videos
10:01 cha cha real smooth
Absolute fucking gaming my man!
awesome run, sat through the credits to help retention lol
When you want to play before school but only got 15 minutes
I do love me some TASes
Holy moly this was great to watch
1:41 How did he pass that cutscene I was Never able to do that
Bravo, Dr Snug
This needs to happen again since the new World Record is 15:45.
Good work Jeffery
That's crazy!!
This is insane
Now try to do the TAS of 100%
Id love to see it!
now THIS is speedrunning
How can you enter the lift in gol and maia’s citadel just like this ? Isn’t there a force field around it normally ? Great job by the way !
Thank you! I'm unsure on what part you are on about exactly, so I'll explain a couple:

Lava Tube was so exhilarating omg
does anyone know the purpose of going backwards for a little bit when they get the zoomer in lava tube?
Yeah! The very final jump above the door at the end isn't possible without Blue Eco, so Jak heads back to get the Blue Eco from earlier in the level in the shortcut.
@@Snugggles ahhhh i see thank you!
I feel like the credits took longer than the playthrough
amazingly only 80 seconds faster than current WR when writing this
"good training boys, but that's nothing to the challenges that lie ahead."
oh if only samos knew
PS2 tas is here.
Oh my god theres a skip found for that door in lava tube? Also by how much faster is it compared to just doing it normally?
I'm lost for words
let's goooo
Tech so crazy
Did you take the big white eco from the cutscene to end the game? i didnt know this is even possible!
Unfortunately not, the giant floating ball of Eco can't be interacted with.
I did however hang around the area that the collectible White Eco is first spawned, making Jak interact with it as soon as possible
GG bro i love this game
gg

So, uhhh ... plan on porting this to OpenGoal?
Was this made like the Sly 1 TAS or is this pre-recorded inputs and frame advance?
It's the same way the Sly 1 TAS was done. This is each individual Segment recorded on its own and spliced together, each segment done with manually written inputs. Not quite by hand in the normal way, but not with pre-recorded inputs either.
I want to know what version of PCSX2 did you use, bios and game version
This was done on PCSX2-RR 1.4.0 by xTVaser, American BIOS I believe, and on the NTSC-U Black Label copy of the game

cool
is he playing on ps4?
crazyy man gut gemacht we say in germany :))
...Did you even manipulate the *sounds* on the zoomer at 11:27? I've never laughed so hard at such a stupid sound before
It’s the Hop Turn, it’s used to make sharp turns when you jump in the air.
Holy shit dude
