  • In this video I use some 3D pouring methods with acrylic paints and floetrol to paint some flame box elder wood bowls that I turned earlier.

    Excellent idea using the "blowing" technique thin out the bottom. I will use that for sure.

    If you put freezer paper, shiny side up, under your 3D objects, you can catch the extra paint and make skins! You can attach skins to all kinds of things as well as making jewelry. Gorgeous bowls!!!

    I love wooden bowls but I’m not a turner. So off to dollar tree and thrift shops I go to find me some to pour on!
    Reminds me of ceramic glazes I did in college!

    Absolutely beautiful! I'm still learning, too, but not 3D, although with the 1.5 - 2 in. cradled canvases, 3D by way of running over the edges plays a role. Love your work. Will look for you on Etsy.

    The colors are beautiful on them. To catch the paint and make skins and to protect your area, I found some heaver plastic sheeting they sell at Walmart, by the foot or yard. They have all different weight plastic sheeting in the material section. I hope this might help.

    Very cool idea. I may have to try that on a bowl. :) You should put down some parchment paper or something. My favorite is the clear shower curtains from Walmart. I was thinking as I watched this I could just cut a piece to fit the board and tape it underneath so it would stay put then put the rest of the shower curtain under it. It catches the drips so when they dry you can reuse the skins. Alternatively you could have some canvas or craft wood on hand to dip into the dripped paint. :D The shower curtain works great with the resin drips. They come right off after they have cured. - Heidi

    I like the darker one best, but I recon that's just my opinion. Your beautiful work gave me ideas with pots and stuff that's been gathering dust because they're so ugly. I would love to see the finished product.

    you might have been better doing a cup pour rather than the open cup pour as you have more control. however that depends on what look you're going for. your paints are a little thick so I hope you manage to get no mounds in your pour. try making your paint a little thinner.... a little. you dont want them too thin or they will run off the bowl. make sure all your colour consistency are the same. try dimethicone instead of silicone. using silicone means you have to really wash the bowl before applying varnish otherwise you'll have spots in your varnish. did your bowl turn out the way you expected. did you use a pouring medium in your paints I cant remember hope this helps....it looks lovely btw 😊

    I like the first one best! Just subscribed!
    I wonder if pouring smaller amounts and doing the whole bowl in seperate pours would get less stretching of the cells, doing it propped on its side on each of four sides letting each dry first before going on to another, or if you're doing it in this current position upside down then turning it right side up once the paint starts to set up so gravity will prevent it from elongating in one direction.
    I think resin would be cool! Even putting clear over the acrylic pours!

    • @deadtreewoodworks5005
      @deadtreewoodworks5005  6 лет назад

      Thanks for the input, I tried less paint, it just didn't flow. I will try flipping the bowl top to bottom, I suppose timing will be the key for this to work, as you suggested. The resin process is in the works, this is something that I have been working toward both colored and clear.

    Very interesting video and great looking bowls! How do you finish it after it drys...is it smooth so you just apply your finish?

    • @deadtreewoodworks5005
      @deadtreewoodworks5005  6 лет назад +1

      Aside from any dust or debris in the mix they dry smooth. I use Floetrol as a leveling agent in the paint mix. After a few days when the paint has cured I re-turn the foot ,rim and inside then finish.
      Thanks

    How does the paint not run off? I'm having lots of trouble with the fluid just dripping off and leaving next to nothing on the bowl !!

    • @deadtreewoodworks5005
      @deadtreewoodworks5005  6 лет назад

      Hi Tahlia,
      I experimented with several different viscosities, I would coat the piece with a solid color 1st then do you intended pour colors. The shape of the piece also has an influence on how quickly the paint moves I like 4 to 1 width to depth . If you are doing a dirty cup pour its better to add you colors in small amounts more often than large amounts less often.
      Thanks
