This is where we show what we are currently creating at DeadTreeWoodWorks as well as some of the processes involved.
Double-Sided Pour Painting on a Platter Bowl
This piece was my attempt at doing pours on both sides of a piece. After multiple pours, I wasn't pleased with the way the top looked, so I switched to working with aniline dyes. I like what I finally ended up with.

Painting Experiment on Wooden Bowl
Просмотров 4,8 тыс.5 лет назад
I was finally able to get back to doing some painted bowls now that it's gotten marginally warmer. This bowl started as an experiment with different techniques, but I ended up with just a dirty pour. This bowl is now for sale in my Etsy Shop: etsy.me/2TWfoOH Here are some links to the products I used or mentioned: Nova Color Acrylic Paints: novacolorpaint.com/ Liquitex Pouring Medium: www.micha...
Coating a Painted Urn with Epoxy Resin
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.6 лет назад
This is how I coat painted urns with epoxy resin (Alumilite Clear Caste). For this particular urn, I used two coats because there were still some flaws visible. In between the first and second coat, the piece was sanded. There is another video on this piece which shows the final product and how I finish the top and bottom. Completing An Epoxy Coated Pet Urn
Просмотров 7036 лет назад
This is the finished pet urn. I tried to use the Alcohol inks but wasn't satisfied with the way it turned out, so as you can see in the video, I turned it off and was able to get a clean line where the painted hadn't soaked into the wood. Hope you like the piece. It will be on our Etsy site soon for sale. Find us on social media or check out our Etsy Shop: Facebook: deadtreewoodwor...

I am using a similar method. I do seal the end grain prior to putting the once turned bowls into the drying box. Mine is a set of metal shelves encapsulated with foam board insulation.
Excellent idea using the "blowing" technique thin out the bottom. I will use that for sure.
Stunning, great job a touch of brilliance
How does the water leave the refrigerator?
Woodglut scripts contain most of the woodworking plans you can find.
beautifull Sir. Big hug from Brasil Said Choucair
Thousands of lifetime projects with Woodglut plans.
I did it myself with the Woodglut plans. I think this is the best way to find out how to build it.
Nice demonstration. Beautiful results
Very very beautiful.
I've never heard of soaking them. Could you explain please
Nicely done. Love the modeled colors.
What happened to the content in the middle? Not a subscriber!!
Nice effect. You have a ton of once turned bowls. You should think of selling those (maybe you do)? I could use a few.
What kind of paint ia using?
not sufficient info. we watch to learn, dont presume we know.
fantastic!
Hi from the UK. I sourced the same brand inks and stamp with the felts pads and had my first try at colouring with ink. The inks are very ‘pigment strong’ and I got the desired effect that I wanted, but with two problems . Firstly, the fibres from the felt remained in the ink and were a devil to get out. I used 0000 wire wool with a very light touch and managed to knock the tops off of most of the fibres, but there was a definite texture in the ink when I was done. The second problem was the inks ran when I applied melamine lacquer. I ended up having to sand the piece down to bare wood and start again from the sanding sealer stage. I still had the problem with the fibres from the felt second time around and acrylic lacquer worked fine. I’m going to try 100% wool felt, as that is supposedly more stable. Any other suggestions would be great fully received.
More editing is needed. When showing the product that was used, show the product.
Love the second one
Lift slower, up and down. Looks beautiful.
Beautiful bowl and finish, great idea with the mortise on the inside, thanks for sharing... subscribed
Yes, why the soap and water soak?
using Painters tape to keep your edges clean and may let you work closer to the edge of the painted area also. looks awesome. i will try it this afternoon . thanks
Would you share what stamp you used? I am new trying to dye bowls.
Great video, why the soap in the water? Never heard of this.
you might have been better doing a cup pour rather than the open cup pour as you have more control. however that depends on what look you're going for. your paints are a little thick so I hope you manage to get no mounds in your pour. try making your paint a little thinner.... a little. you dont want them too thin or they will run off the bowl. make sure all your colour consistency are the same. try dimethicone instead of silicone. using silicone means you have to really wash the bowl before applying varnish otherwise you'll have spots in your varnish. did your bowl turn out the way you expected. did you use a pouring medium in your paints I cant remember hope this helps....it looks lovely btw 😊
Thanks for showing your drying technique! Whenever bowls do get checking - is it more towards the end of the drying cycle or in the beginning?
Beautiful work. Can you tell me what kind of silicone and how much you used? Thanks for sharing Dennis Beamish Cambridge Ontario Canada
I'm going to build one of these this weekend. I am afraid I won't always be able to fill it up. What's your thoughts on adding a pan of water inside to compensate?
Ya seems like it would work, same principle. Let me know how it works out
You're only using a light bulb. Your not using a fan for circulation? Sorry I am considering a way to dry my blanks and trying to understand the right way to this. Thank you.
that is correct 1 75 watt incandescent bulb
Okay thank you
A lot of talent. Beautiful !
VERY COOL !
That is utterly gorgeous. You're very talented.
Great experiments with colour and techniques. Thanks for sharing!
That is Awesome work
I really liked the first attempt. I would have kept it!
Second attempt very nice too
WOW!!!! Techniques are unreal! I pour paint and I think I am considered pretty good, however, on a beautiful wood sculpture, I don't know............!!
Would like to see the epoxy technique please👍😜
You can view at ruclips.net/video/6GrPIxDWYzM/видео.html I had enough folks request a follow up so I posted a video of my process.
Any experience with using anchorseal on pieces before putting them in this type of kiln? I turn professionally and have just air dried with anchor seal. It takes a much longer time to dry, but I have hundreds in different stages at all time. I am setting up my first freezer kiln. I needed a larger freezer since I start with 25 inch blanks. I have sealed them and put them in the freezer. Four days and a lot of water has come out, and no checking.
Nice. I liked it when you initially took the plastic bag and swirled it around. The blotting method did not speak to me. But the you saved it in the end with the ring pour. I like the orderly chaos of it. Reminds of the painted desert out in the southwest all those wavy sediment layers.
I agree blotting blends the colors (mud) not something I was going for. I still would like to come up with a way to swipe to mitigate the typical run patterns. I will try again . Thanks for taking the time to comment, always nice to here others thoughts.
I realize I'm kinda randomly asking but do anyone know of a good site to stream newly released tv shows online ?
@Gus Khari try flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
@Gael Lucas yea, been watching on flixzone for since april myself =)
@Gael Lucas thanks, I went there and it seems to work :D Appreciate it!!
Beautiful!
I hope you took that lid off of the last bowl before the paint started to dry.
Ya, I only needed to do that once.
absolutely stunning!
For the benefit of us who might not understand kiln drying principle. I get your emphasis on packing it full, i.e. lots of close up showing that concept,. Some more ideas on "how" you repurposed your old fridge would help.
Hi Dale, Sorry about the slow response. I drilled a hole in the back for the electrical about 12" up from the lowest point on the inside of the fridge. Then I installed a junction box to attach the light fixture to. Wired it with an 8' cord I made. My placement of the light/heat source was only based on the location of the lowest shelf in the fridge. Added a 12" square metal shield above the light as I thought directly above it might be a hot spot and the metal would disperse some heat. I have found 75 watt incandescent works best for me with the size fridge I am using.
@@deadtreewoodworks5005 Well . . . it's a great idea and I appreciate the video presentation . . . and much more the thoughtful reply. Thanks so much1
Very nice if you scrap the exes paint into a cup and mix with resin you could turn a nice bottle stopper or something
Skins make great jewelry. We all are our own worst enemies when we mess too much with our projects.
My eyes are beholding 2 wonderful bowls. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Do u make the bowls? You said u have skins. I've seen some tutorials where people make jewelry with them. Your pours are pretty.
Yes I turn the bowls on a lathe. I don't make jewelry, I use skins in some of my flat work.
where do you get your wood bowls from?
I turn them from locally harvested dead or wind fall trees. My wife and I have an Etsy shop deadtreewoodworks where we sell the finished pieces.
