So what initially seemed like a nothing trade turned out to be one of the best trades in Senators history. And ironically Stone and the Golden Knights just defeated the Dallas Stars!

@OhNyquist this will be a fun one! Before I watch it, I'm gonna look at the past drafts and come up with my list then see how they compare! But I will say there is only one correct answer for 2015 haha
The 2003 draft in both the NHL and NBA were both completely stacked and considered to be amongst the best drafts in the history of both leagues -- Makes me wonder what was in the water back in 1984/1985.
I would think Sebastion Aho would be considered a HUGE steal. Second rounder. Only McDavid, Eichel, and Marner have more points, and add in the fact that Aho spent his first year in the AHL and he's only 28 points behind Marner. Seems like a huge steal.
2015 has got to be my favourite draft of all time. the bruins had 3 early mid round picks and all three were surrounded by all stars and a few that are some of the best in the league. comedy gold.
12:01 I'm not debating whether Adam Fox is one of the best defenders in the league, he clearly is but the notion that he is as you say "easily the biggest steal from the 2016 draft" is something that I would say Jesper Bratt brings into question. Is a third round pick a bigger STEAL then a mid six round pick, I think a guy picked at 66 becoming a star is more plausible than a guy at 162, is Fox a better player than Bratt, yes, but is he a bigger steal, I'd say no, Let alone the fact that Fox openly said he wouldn't play for anyone who drafted him, that's why he fell to the third round, and thus he never signed with the team that drafted him, so he wasn't really a steal in that draft because he chose who he wanted to play for.
My only argument is how many goalies, I get they are all great tendys, but most goalies go in later rounds . Not so much a steal when they are going where expected.
I agree it's way too early to tell on those most recent draft but one has to monitor the development of Jordan Dumais, 2nd to last 3rd pick in 2022. He does not even play first line, is not always on the PP either, in a very competitive QMJHL team (2nd best after the Remparts actually) yet was the only other kid with a points production similar to Connor Bedard's in this underrated CHL branch. He finished the regular season with 54 goals and 86 assists, got much less time on ice than most of his more experienced teammates in the playoffs and still racked up 21 points in 15 PO games. Kid has a lot to improve upon to even make it into the NHL one day, on defense & physicality mostly, but will most likely have to play first line next year as several of his most talented teammates won't be returning due to the age limit which could help him work a lot on those aspects, will be very interesting to see.
I don't think Fox should be considered for this list at all. A player isn't really a steal if they publicly refuse to sign or play for the team that drafted them.
I have to wonder how you feel about undrafted players? Do they count towards that year's draft class? We saw him on the Kraken briefly in the playoffs already, and hes destroying the AHL, but Tye Kartye already has the makings of an NHL starter.
What about juuso pärssinen drafted in the 7th round in 2019 by the preds and he got 25 points in 45 games this season as a rookie. I feel like he deserves an honorable mention at least
Having Lundqvist's pic in a Capital jersey is blasphemous. 15 years as a Ranger, never played a game for the Caps and he's wearing a Capitals jersey. Sooo wrong.
I personally disagree on Craig Anderson. Getting a decent goalie in the 3rd round is good but not a huge steal for me. Mike Smith was in the 5th round for example. Sharp, Jussi Jokinen, Zidlicky and Oduya are other alternatives I prefer as great steals
I would've had Bratt over Fox for 2016. Now, Fox is definitely better and in a vacuum is the logical choice for steal of the draft. However, Bratt is a 6th round pick which is a lot more impressive than a 3rd. So we are looking at a 6th for a top line winger vs a 3rd for a top 5 offensive defender; slight edge to Fox. HOWEVER, the second fact here is that, a big part of why Fox dropped, beyond is size, is that he only wanted to play for one team. This essentially means, Fox would be a steal for only 1 team while being a wasted pick for the others in the draft. So with those two things in mind, I think Jesper Bratt is the biggest steal from that year.
