The fluid-drain step not shown consists of removing the transaxle pan drain plug, and the plastic fluid level insert above it that’s threaded into the bottom of the pan. The insert sets the correct fluid level at a specific temperature. Removing this insert will allow approximately 1/2 of the total fluid in the transaxle (around 4qts) to be drained and refilled each time it’s serviced. Replace the insert, leaving the drain plug removed for the refill process shown in the video.
The information provided is incomplete. In order to refill to proper level, the fluid volume must be within a specific temperature range. I use an instrument that reads the cars transmission fluid temp as recorded in the computer. Draining from the overflow tube when the engine is at "operating temperature" will result in an incorrect level.
I don't do it like that. I drain the pan with the plug and insert out. If I drain two quarts I put two quarts back in. I don't have any leaks so that is ok to do. I also use the Valvoline multivehicle CVT fluid made specifically for the CVT transmissions. My car has 120,500 miles on it and it shifts fantastic.
@@Brett235 cvts don't shift that's the whole point it's built right into the name continuously variable transmission well anyway I'm glad it's working out for you maybe your car does simulated shifts

I changed the fluid, i dont know how many quarters I took out but I added 5, I let it run shifting gears for about 10 minutes. I didnt check for especific temperature and qhen I drive it i feel it even smother as it was before. Should I wait for low/high fluid symptoms or what should I do in this case? Thank you gentlemen

You would want to change it, on average, every 60K miles. If you do a lot of stop and go traffic, do it every 40K miles. If you do more highway driving, then every 80K miles

This is the part that confuses me the most, because I only removed the drain plug and it emptied out about 2 quarts, then I removed the insert and it drained another 2-2.5 quarts. So was my cvt overfilled from factory?

Transmission draws fluid from the pan when operating, just enough so the fluid left is at the insert. When the car is not running, all the fluid drains back to the pan and stays ABOVE the dipstick, which you guys see drain. Tee correct way to check the fluid level is when the car is 1. running 2. gears were shifted for a few seconds to each setting 3. Temps are at certain level to allow for fluid expansion. There are better manuals out there for auto transmission fill.
masterwrong... You need to remove the plastic tube inside so all the juice comes out of the pan. That tube sets the fluid depth. If you don't know this, you have no business fucking around with a very expensive transmission.
this is nightmare design because alot people who work on car at home or else cant get it levels out without car lift machine best step change fluids and filter is pull emergency break so doesnt move back on you and jack it up and leave wheels on it and remove pan and clean pan up break cleaner in can spray on it let it dry and remove filter and make sure get old o ring out port and install new one on filter (should came with new gasket o ring on filter) and lube gasket on o ring ( use finger in transmission fluid n rubbed it on o ring and install it there few use screw hold filter some dont i cant tell which one have it so have look at it first them put gasket on pan put screw in it so gasket hold screw in place whiles you can install pan dont brakes tube on pan if it still there good if not them get new port for it once pan is installed them remove drain port them lower car down them move jack over to lower control arm lift it up take wheels off and lower down little bit that way it level them remove fill bolt on side of transmission and fill it until start to leak out when leak out port them start engine up let it run for 3 or 4 minutes them fill it aging until leak out of port when it it full them put drain screw back in pan and put fill screw back in transmission side wall and turn off engine and lift up put wheels back on it done i hope this help ya out
