Great vid! Excuse me I have a CHR 2020 I am the only owner. My question is do you believe it is too late to change the transmission filter and transmission oil if it is currently sitting at 85,000 miles?

All the toyota chrs in the united states are the same, so if your in the states then yes it is the same, but if you live elsewhere you likely have a different drivetrain.

I got myself a 2018 Toyota CHR. Bought it pre-certified from Toyota dealer when it had 33,000 miles. I’m sure they never changed the transmission fluid. Now I just hit 60k. I’m debating whether I should change the fluid or wait a little longer. Personally, we don’t drive it daily. It’s more of a weekend local getaway car. In addition, some 2 hours road trips here and there.
My question is, when should I change the transmission fluid and if it is even necessary to do so? I know there is a big debate for folks who do and do not.

    • @CHR...
      @CHR...  2 года назад +1

      Hi.
It all depends in how much time are you planning on keeping the car...
      Up to 200,000 or 400,000
I know this cars are new but this miles is something am about to test.
I'm already at 50,000 in one year.
When my car reaches 60,000 i will definitely be changing the filter inside and the oil again with the exact amount of oil that the dealer recommends on putting back in because taking the transmission pan off more oil will come out. It will not be the same amount as just changing the oil..
In your case if that was my car and my situation this is what i would do...
I will definitely change the oil filter and the oil because i dont know how the first 30,000 miles where driven..
The first oil changes are very important in a car . After 180,000 miles then i would check how the car behaves. Meaning -checking if u feel it slipping after your 180,000 miles oil change then i would consider not changing anymore so it can get more grip.
This is why im saying if u plan to keep the car up to 200,000 then that will be the end of it and no more oil changes will be required..i'm planning on changing the transmission oil until the transmission belt gives up because i'm testing this machine performance with constant oil changes.
I remember i had an acura TL cero miles and i changed the transmission oil every 30,000 miles and the car made it with no problems at all in the transmission.
I sold the acura at 250,000 miles with the transmission working in smoothly great shifts...
But we are talking about a different transmission because this toyota is a CVT transmission and im about to test how far they make it with constant oil changes..
      Back to your case.
If you are planning on selling the car or replacing the vehicle at 120,000 then i would just do an oil change and not the filter..
After 120,000 if you do not change the transmission oil filter then the transmission will fail because the filter will be clogged and not provide oil to the rest of the transmission..
If you keep your regular transmission oil changes up to 200,000 miles and after that you do not change the transmission oil.
Your transmission oil will become sluggish blocking the filter getting more grip on the belt but it will die sooner..
This vehicles require constant oil changes for the first 200,000.
I understand you do not drive to much but your oil still sitting down for long periods of time becoming sluggish and that will block some of the small oil transmission passages where oil need to be circulating....
Its all up to you and how much time are you planning on keeping the car.
This car will go up to 20years if you only put 12,000 miles on them in a year.
This is my plan on this car oil changes.
Engine oil changes every 5k oem oil.
      Transmission oil.
      30,000 oil
      60,000 oil filter and oil
      100,000 oil
      140,000 oil filter and oil
      200,000 oil
After this i will decide according to how it behaves meaning if i feel it slipping then i won't do any more oil changes and replace the car after the 200,000 let it build some sludge and replace it.
If its going great i will keep the oil changes going.
Also do not use the cheap gas .
I only use Mobil one Premium.
I also put fuel injector cleaner for 400 miles trips highway..
      Every 4 months 3 times a year.
To keep it as clean as possible.
Those that say do not change the oil do not love their cars or they are just planning on getting rid of them quick or simply dont care about their investments or they have their own techniques on how to work in their cars.
You worry about yours and come to your own conclusion.
We all have different reasons and opinions.
Read well your circumstances, this new cars need alot of care or they will perfom poor.

Most likely in the beginning of November this year i will be changing the transmission filter and oil.
I will post the video by then.
As soon as i reach 60,000 and Nov is my estimated time.
      You got this.
      You can do it.
      Its possible.

Change the fluid, flush if possible, every 30k miles or so. It's a CVT, pretty much a fancy slipper clutch, and under strain constantly. I prefer a flush, as all of the fluid, about 10 qts, is changed out. What's done here only gets about 25 percent of the fluid out.

@@patrick118825% even when dropping the pan? Is there another compartment where the fluid is stored?

    • @patrick1188
      @patrick1188 Год назад

@@masterwrong3110 your just changing the fluid in the pan. There's still fluid through out the cvt body, the valve body, pressure plate diaphragm that moves the cone and such, which is why a flush is much better. You're completely replacing the fluid, but just what's in the pan.

Not good.... no car will run with the same oil for a long time...
Personally, this maintenance I do to my car is to make it last 300k and more..
Maybe they assume we are only going to ride the car 10,000 miles a year for 10 years..
I put 65,000 miles a year in my CHR so I must replace the oil..
