  • Nounix sent over some files he was having difficulty with. Fixing stereo tracks to a Logic tempo uses Smart Tempo for some of the analysis, but we don't use it to then fix the imported audio to the fixed Logic tempo.

    I spent the whole of yesterday trying to fathom mismatched tempos in a project - and found this at about midnight - thanks so much for this video. BRILLIANT!

    So it seems like flex is the tool to get the timing correct and smart tempo is used as a guideline working in conjunction to flex time. This is very good 👍.

    • @dancetech
      @dancetech  2 года назад

      They interact to a certain extent, but the simplest way to see it is: Smart Tempo moves the grid to fit the music... Flex moves the music to fit the grid

    This is a great video, but you probably know that you can do Flex in the editor window as well, right? You just click on track view and click the flex button at the top of the EDITOR WINDOW. I did learn a lot about why I can't get my guitar parts to line up with the grid (I play to the click, but latency ALWAYS causes timing issues). I need to use "variable" analysis instead of "constant."

  • @1mattattaker
    @1mattattaker 5 месяцев назад

    The problem is when you import an audio file with recorded variable tempo that has syncopation at some sections of the song.
    Another problem is that trying to visualize the transients with hard rock/metal tracks is WAY less easy than was is shown up here.

    Hey DT. Exceptional content, as always! Could I ask a quick question re imported audio etc ... I'm getting a weird glitch with analysed audio which I wondered if you'd ever come across? My imported audio analyses fine but on playback I get a stutter, just on one random downbeat out of several bars, sending it either totally out of sync or just adding a doubled note, which deceivingly sometime stays in time and sounds ok. If I move that downbeat manually, just a tiny fraction, the tick clears and the audio plays as expected but that appears the only way to clear it. It's happened on various tracks I've imported, variable or constant. Weird shiz! Any ideas?

    • @dancetech
      @dancetech  4 года назад

      you got FLEX switched ON that audio region? or just mapping logic's tempo to the audio ONLY?

    Hi, I am having a problem with audio drift in live mulitracking environments. I know the tempo of the live recorded songs but when I import them over time they fall off the grid. Is there any way to fix this with Smart Tempo? Hope I explained well and thank you!

    • @dancetech
      @dancetech  3 года назад

      well if the start is in time and it eventually drifts? possibly you are analysing in the smart tempo editor in fixed tempo mode rather than variable tempo mode? but there's other possible issues like the music changes further down the length of the audio. Hard to say without seeing it.

    I have what may be and interesting Smart Tempo problem for you. Just one persons playing banjo and singing Shady Grove. He’s frailing the banjo with a gentle touch. I wanted to get it to match the beat marks to make adding some bass. Mandolin and guitar easier. I can’t even get close. I think that it is not like the dance music you show with pronounced beats that causes the problems.
    You interested?

    • @dancetech
      @dancetech  4 года назад

      yeah go on, but if the playing has zero rythmic structure i'm not sure logic can do it... send it to: admin -at- dancetech -dot- com

      After I had asked you about Shady Grove I went to GarageBand where I’d mixed that recording for putting on RUclips. Turned off all the plugins but left the cutting to the right length in. Exported it to desktop as AAF. Then put it into Logic. Didn’t get back to it until tonight. This time it worked. I was even able to fixed the end where he slowed to finish. Then amazingly I was able to find the percussion that you used. I’m not a fan of drum sets but I liked what you used. Still like to know how you did the fix from the original. I must have restarted from scratch a dozen times.

  • @CaptainNorthernMan
    @CaptainNorthernMan 4 года назад

    Do you have to know the original tempo for this to work?

    • @dancetech
      @dancetech  4 года назад

      nope, but having the tempo reasonably close is best. So you listen to the track & count the tempo in your head, then listen to the metronome, adjust the metronone, listen again, get them reasonably close, then do the import and fixing shown in the video

    You have the best logic tutorials! Quick question how can I start a sample from a specific place from a flex time marker? I'm an ableton live user that now uses logic and I can't figure out how to do this. This video may further explain what I mean. ruclips.net/video/4mXYQMWYq1Q/видео.html

    • @dancetech
      @dancetech  3 года назад

      what you are doing as far as i can tell is trimming a perfect loop and then you want it to match tempo of project? You don't use FLEX for that really. You apply FLEX after preparing/creating your loop and then it will stretch/compact to fit any tempo you like - ruclips.net/video/B9AubBBXWWA/видео.html - once the loop is created, drag & drop it into the apple loops panel to create an apple loop you can use in any project easily

      Dude you're the man!! That marque tool tip was exactly what I needed. I always wanted to use Logic but Ableton's warping in my opinion was second to none. Now that I figured out how to manipulate and put any audio in time on the grid in Logic I'm off to the races. Thanks again.
