Welcome to the wonderful world of the mighty Smashing Pumpkins one of the best bands to ever walk this planet they’re vast and diverse catalog can stand with anybody’s in the history of music
I can’t even put into words how big of a deal this album was when it came out in 1996. It was EVERYWHERE. Everyone had it or knew someone who did, the singles from the album were all over MTV (they also nearly swept the MTV Video Music Awards, I think they won all but one category they were nominated for). It was a seminal album for me and countless others who were coming of age in the mid 90’s.
Smashing pumpkins just had a sound out that no other band did at the time. Billy Corgan had amazing vocals that really stood out in so many of their songs.
This is a rabbit hole you can really dive into. From the bi hits like Tonight to the sombre Porcelina of the oceans vast. Pumpkins is a treasure trove.
Nice reaction to one of the anthems of Gen X. Smooth with a bit of melancholy, but underneath a lot of anger and rage that sometimes comes out with a scream.
Ah, one of my favorite bands from the 90s. They had a very unique sound, and were extremely dynamic from song to song. Suggestions: Cherub Rock (my personal favorite), 1979, Zero, Disarm, Mayonaise (I know the title is weird just trust me), Ava Adore, Today, Tonight Tonight, and The End is the Beginning is the End. Now, I'm gonna be listening to Smashing Pumpkins for the rest of the day lol
If memory serves, the God Mode cheat code for the very first Doom video game was the first letters from a long sentence starting with Smashing Pumpkins Into…. Don’t remember exactly, that was the 90s.
The later 1980s and the 1990s was the peak era for music video production. They had some serious budgets back then because people still bought physical media.
Watching this really takes me back. The Pumpkins were one of the biggest alt rock bands of that era. They brought bombast to alternative music.
