There are open carry guns, concealed carry guns, pocket carry guns and finally, like the Phoenix/Raven (and my Bauer) .25ACP hideout guns. Easy to hide in the tighty-whities. So, as strictly a last-ditched hideout gun (watch out for slide bite), yes, it's still relevant - a little - maybe.😎

Browning himself invented the 25 ACP to be a more reliable alternative to the 22 rim fire cartridge. If this had a larger thumb safety I could see it being relevant. But as it is, not relevant. The 380 LCP and LCP 2 are plenty small with a lot more power. LCP Max only a little larger with more capacity.

My dad got one of these back in the 80s. He still has it and it's just sitting in his gun safe... probably unfired since the 80s, too. lol
I would say it's still relevant as a collectors piece for cheap mouse guns of the past...as niche of a group that may be.

In the late 80's a state police officer was shot point blank in the chest during a traffic stop with a small .25 not too far from where I live. I always assumed it was a raven. What I remember is he always wore his vest, except on that day he chose not to. It cost him his life. There's still a marker on the highway where it happened. The guy who did it is still in prison.

I own the raven. It didn't work when I bought it off gun broker, but my buddy is a gunsmith, and he fixed it. I own it because I'm a collector. I would never carry it because I don't feel it would be reliable. It is fun to play with, but 25 acp is ridiculously expensive. So, I guess it's relevant for me as a collector.

I got one in 70s in 22 caliber. That pistol was unworldly accurate!! My
brother was consistantly hitting a leaf floating down stream up to 50
yards. The other 2 super accurate pistols I had was an RG38 and a
Ballister Molina 45 acp 1911, perfect trigger pull and super accurate!
Yup, sold them and learned about "hindsight"!

For myself, I'd say a big fat "no" on this gun, but I can't make that judgement for other people. Years ago at the range, a young man took the station next to me and started shooting a little Lorcin. In talking to the guy I learned that he worked full-time in fast food, and that Lorcin was all he could afford. So a gun that's irrelevant to me had all the relevance in the world to him. While I don't want a Raven or any of its knock-offs, they do serve an important function in the market.

I actually carried a Beretta .25 , as Director of Security for a large hospital, back in the day. It had to be completely hidden and the .25 fit the need.

Relevant...there are a very few people that still carry this gun...we carry a Jetfire in .25acp, so it's not the caliber...we went to an auction a couple years ago to bid on this gun, but the bidding got too high for us, winning bid $140.00 (for a gun you could buy for $40.00 brand new way back then)...the Raven isn't built amazingly well, or out of the best material, but the gun seems to run, usually...that 'usually' means there are folks in the graveyard from both ends of this gun...if we had won the auction, we might be carrying the little thing today, but honestly the Beretta much better...I'd bet there might some of these guns, sitting loaded for 40+ years, in bedroom drawers around the country, never fired, the hi point of the very poor...

Great little guns! My dad always had one when I was a kid, I’ve bought a couple over the years, never had any problems with em if clean with good mag, it’s a fast 6+1 25acp pistol that hits where you aim, probably the best cheap
Pocket pistol. I think it’s still good today, great little pocket gun or one you can leave it truck or something like that. For the money it’s perfect stash gun.

I believe the raven is relevant because of the trend for smaller guns is stoking interest in these and other mouse guns.I have some of the best .380,9mm,357and .45 handguns you can buy,and i love each and every one of them. But, i recently bought a new hp22a just for the challenge of making it run like my "good" guns.Polish the feed ramp, fix the safety system to work normal,Mcarbo recoil and trigger/sear springs, hold open followers for the mags, and it feeds and fires anything i put through it and is nonstop fun. However when i picked it up at my LGS i noticed a little beretta 950b 25acp in the used case. After fixing up the hp22 successfully i had to go back and get it.$225 in very good condition and after a little research found out it was born the same year as me,1964! works perfectly, almost too perfect for what i have gone through on extremely more expensive guns in the past.So the day i go to pick it up there is another new arrival, a colt 1908 25acp made in 1925! seemed complete, but with the blueing worn off and if i have to buy some 25acp anyways, what the heck.It is 99 years old and also works perfectly just like the beretta.Problem is when i picked it up last monday there was another new arrival in the case,a late 60's astra cub 25acp in excellent condition in its original box! Cant stop thinking about it. Are these guys playing me or am i just sick? I need help.

I had the Davis version in 32 ACP many moons ago. It was more of a conversation piece than anything else, but I’d plink a few empty soda cans with it every now and then on the farm just for kicks. It would usually go bang, but it wasn’t something I’d even remotely consider reliable enough to depend on.

Several of us purchased the Raven Arms 25. This was back in the early 80's, the gun & a box of ammo was $52 out the door!
It was a blast to play with, but alas the novelty wore off quickly and it has been lost in the few moves in the last 40 years or so.

Bought a Jennings J-22, mid 80s, chrome w/beautiful wood grips (Teak?). $62 otd. Used to keep it in my tackle box. Handy for the errant serpent, and surprisingly quite accurate (within 10ft) & reliable when properly lubed! Yeah, still have it, never carried it, conversation piece now. But still goes bang!

I have a Raven MP-25 but it was an original, not made by Phenix, and it looks identical to the one you have here. It shoots and functions flawlessly as long as Im careful not to let the slide make contact with my shooting grip, which will cause it not to fully return to battery.
Is it still relevant? Yes, an no. To me, it is relevant as a piece of gun history, in that while may have armed a lot of thugs and criminals, it also allowed low income citizens to protect themselves because of the affordability.
If I wasnt able and didn't own several much more viable options I would certainly feel better with it than with nothing, but, as is pointed out in this video this isn't a gun made to withstand hundreds of rounds put through it, and small edc guns require lots of practice.
At any rate I like mine very much and Im going to keep it 😉

I've got Bauer Firearms .25 ACP. It is brilliant in its quality and design. The Raven (In my humble opinion) is a cheaper knock-off version that tried to latch onto the .25 ACP niche by mimicking the Bauer stainless steel look.
Is it still relevant? Well, it certainly wouldn't be my 1st choice for concealed carry but, it does shoot a 50-grain projectile at around 700 ft/sec. I suppose if I were on the receiving end of that projectile it would become VERY relevant.
BTW... you can find .25 ACP ammo online for around 38 cents/rnd.

Used to have one of those just like the one with the wooden grips and the stainless, with the black slide safety. Pocket carried it for a long time specially when working retail and doing bank drops, until I upgraded to a .45 ACP. Funny story one night I came home from work and was waiting on the dog to walk and I walked outside next to a telephone pole. There was a big overgrown bush there at the time. I had that thing in my pocket locked and loaded inside a small carry holster. For some reason I felt danger and I look to the right and in the semi-darkness, a large rat as long as your arm had walked up on a sturdy limb of this bush, and was no more than a foot and a half away from me. He had a pretty good size mouth and big buck teeth in the front, and he was chattering something; I have no idea what he was talking about. In the split second I saw this, he stood up on his hind legs and started to motion with his front feet like he was getting ready to jump on to me. I'm back paddling about 1 ft, drew and fired in one motion, probably about a foot away from its head, and I missed it. There was a flame about a foot long that came out the end of the barrel and lit up the whole area, including the rat's face. 😮 Its mouth hanging open in total surprise, it actually screamed, turned and ran back down the bush. WTH? I stoid there in shock for a second that I actually missed it from a foot away, and more so that it screamed at me, since I didn't know that was possible. 😂 So is it effective yes, it'll scare the hell out of a two-legged or a four-legged rat. If you sent it back to the factory like mine was, and they happened to fluff and buff and polish the feed ramp and part of the inside barrel then it was reliable. The slide safety took some effort to push into the fire position, so I never worried about it actually going off inside the holster in the pocket. It actually had some heft of weight, making it easy to fire, or able to be used for a club if you run out of ammo. I remember living on a farm growing up somebody tried to break into one of our buildings one night and the only thing I could think of to grab going out the door was that little bitty 25. The guy went running down through the yard and the barn past an old 2010 John Deere tractor, and I let him have all six rounds just for good measure. Wasn't taking aim to hit him, but I did manage to nick the tractor a couple of times off the metal and that sent him scurrying even faster. Well the bad guys find out when you shoot at them they don't want to come back. Especially if you happen to know a few of them are around and set up a few cinder blocks and shoot them all to pieces with a 44 Magnum. Even the old farmer across the street was handy with a 12-gauge if somebody was breaking into his property. Sounds like something that would only happen in the city, but out in rural areas of the country houses get broke into all the time, so you have to be vigilant neighbor watching out for each other. It usually happens in the daytime, by someone that knows your routine. Watch out for rats and keep your peashooter handy.

I practiced with mine when I could afford extra ammo, and I can't ever remember a problem at all. I carried one of these back in the 70s when I was young, dumb and full of you know what. Back then they were considered okay, with today's modern guns this goes into the junk pile. Just my 2 cents.
